Lay Your Burden's Bare

After all of these years,
words still harden your heart,
always so condescending
when the spotlight isn’t on you.
when you come crashing down,
everyone is to blame for mistakes made.

It will be alright, you can take it out on me!

You hold the past like a sword,
swinging it at anyone that gets close.
chaos exudes out of your mouth,
hitting everyone in spitting distance.
Here you excuse the lonely of being depressed,
yet you sit alone crying at night.
Your all knowing wisdom,
seems to be all wrong.
you know nothing of this fight.

So, won’t you take it out on me?

you consume yourself of unreal expectations,
and live a life of false positivity.
so blame me for your indiscretions,
and lay your burdens on my shoulders.
take it all out on me.
But stop playing pretend,
hiding your heart full of agony.
I tell you this loud and clear,
but here you are never listening.
We still have so much to learn,
and everything to fear.

Every day I dream of a paradise,
where I could break free from the stereotypes,
Somewhere I can shake off this disease,
even though I created these catastrophes,
now I must suffer through them,
or let them begin to bury me alive.
I have faked a better half of the decade,
and I have grown to learn to hold back these tears.
and when the pain hits so deep,
I begin to fight the unimaginable
and I begin to attempted to destroy the unthinkable,
as the days become more suffocating,

Awake my soul,
because sometimes I can’t fight anymore,
I am still burning through my core.

I am unforgiven,

I am not sure where my heart is.

I indulge every dark desire
drowning in oceans of sins
from where should I begin,
this feels sickening,
I know I can’t do this alone.

I fail to repent,
such inability to look forward,
I am not sure where my mind has gone.

Awake this love,

The Weight

rain falls from the blackness in the sky,
the water soaks the earth.
here we stay a float,
but slowly we are drowning.
the mud grabs us by the ankles,
pulling us into the ground.
everyday is a struggle to move.

With all of these days,
we carry out this weight,
walking closer to the pavement.
we tippy toe across the marsh,
crashing faster each time.
crushed to our knees,
our hearts slow to a beat.

we question our strength,
savoring every last drop,
like the very last scotch.
and at the end of the day,
when the moon covers the view.
your soft hand pressures,
then squeeze’s these muscles
and slowly cracks the bones,
you push down upon me,
I pray you don’t break me.

With all the pain and agony,
we continue to push forward,
but we question our lives,
always struggling to stand up straight.
fearing our inevitable fate.
carrying this horrible weight.

Note; In all honesty this is about the world and the struggle to live, have faith in God, but the weight some times comes down on us, but we must prevail. This is more of a wake up call to me, so that is why I wrote it. I am feeling weighed down, but I need to push forward.

Made Of Steel

Let me crawl to the very end,
because this is already over.
We fight like dogs,
the savage warriors,
the hopeless murderers,
Killing all the ones that are wrong.
so we pray for humility,
but we face mediocrity.
Always falling short of his glory.

I feel stupid and worthless,
so here are my fists bloodier then yours,
and here is my heart slowly decaying.
I am not a saint nor a superhero,
I am not made of steel,
I don't wear an "S" on my chest,
and I am not bullet proof.
I am a loser.

We lose that is what we do best,
Crying our eyes out,
Screaming at the ceiling,
We fail because we were lied to.
We struggle because we were abused,
We allow him to build us up,
but you always tears us apart.
you crush this ever breaking heart.

Won't you load up on guns,
and take me for what I am worth,
because I am not your sure bet,
I won't carry you to safety.
I am not your saving grace,
I am not made of steel,
I don't wear an "S" on my chest,
and I will never be bullet proof
I am useless.

Note; I realize that this poem is very depressing, but that was my point. I am not saying God can't provide and I am not discounting God at all. It is more disgracing "Men" in the world today. We live in a world where if us as men aren't something great it means we aren't strong. This is breaking that mold, by as a young man I am saying I am not strong, I cry, I struggle with sin, I am not perfect or something more; like Superman. I have been through a lot in my life and it has made me strong, but I am not made of steel. Sometimes I feel like I am a loser because I am not this typically manly man, and other times I feel like I can't protect you from the dangers of this world, this makes me feel useless. I want to be able to do my job but I fail. This makes me want to try harder and never give up. You can say I am a lover not a fighter but I don't think that describes this poem. This is about confession, and telling the truth.

Real Life is the Nightmare

the wind pushes beyond the trees,
timber to all of our weakness,
they break off like branches.
the rain fell like our tears,
when I had to watch you leave,
but now I am like the raging sea, crashing.

When the sun blinds our true intentions,
we sink deeper into our regrets,
and drowning in our attractions.
Our addictions become our nightmares.

I saw your face inflicted in the mirror,
and the tears fell so wrong,
we weren’t the people we once were.
it’s been awhile since we were just okay.

but I like to let this darkness swallow me whole,
and I'm not sure if i ever want to let it go.
We pay for the truth,
dreams become our quick escape,
while nightmares are the reality we live in.

A Work of Fiction

It came up through the floors,
deep within the woodwork,
and I could hear the strength of the wind,
breaking branches, leaving devastation.

And your tears reminded me of,
the chaos we had endured,
but there was no stopping this feeling,
that tingle in your bones,
that tickle on the surface of your skin.

and what if our words were our mistakes,
and our futures had become something that was faked?
how could we live with each other?
maybe there is time to repair,
but here we are getting scared,
and so we run from the truth.

Only if I could take all of you back,
the darkness would be rewritten,
to a work of fiction.
then we could relive the start,
the beginning of our hearts.
God knows we will make these mistakes,
but I’ll do anything to keep us safe.

It has been a long while since I have decided to write something on this blog. I am really not sure if anyone really views this blog anymore, but I guess I will give it a chance. I also wanted to update it a bit and get out all the stuff that was clouding up the page. You can find similar things on my new blog if your are interested what I have been up too. I'm currently working on a chronicle of poetry that will all come together as one. I wanted to try something new from my normal touchy feely poems. I have been coming back here a lot lately really re-reading old posts. I have really come a long way from back in 2008. You could say I have mellowed out a bit. I also just got word that it is time for planning of my High School Reunion so that is shocking. I can't believe that is has almost been ten years, I feel so old. That and I am going to be 28 this year. Oh, how the years fly by. There is so much to learn with in those years. I know for the ones that are younger then me that you feel that it is the party time, but I think, in my opinion it is the best time to find yourself. Now that I am married and working on a career, and thinking about children. It would have been more of a shock if I didn't prepare myself. This all has been a journey, and a lot of memories of the last 5 years are locked away in these posts. So I am going to continue to keep this blog open. It is weird looking back at all the bad writing, and then all the great writing that I have done. But it is now 2014 and with my new blog I am still just trying to relate with people, so my goal has never changed, just the website. Feel free to re-read these poem, comment, like, do what you want. Let me know if you can relate to anything that I have written. I haven't really gotten to much of a response from people, It has been kind of discouraging, but it hasn't slowed me down any. New Blog Update!

I have to say that I have had this Blog since 2008 and I believe that, that was the longest. Before that I wrote on Yahoo Groups from 2003-2008. I have finally decided to create a new blog that focuses just on my poetry. I am going to keep this blog up as long as I can so if any body wants to read anything they will be welcome to. I can't promise that I will be posting anything new on here anymore unless it is something important, or just me venting to the world. Poem wise you can go to www.injacksownwordstwo.wordpress.com and I will be writing new poems and explaining where they came from. The new blog has been on my mind for awhile. The truth is I thought about just deleting everything all together due to the lack of time to make good material and the lack of attention of my blog. I never starting writing for myself. My goal has and always will be to relate with other people. I am not looking for any type of fame. I like to connect with people and understand them. I have made some friends, and some relationships through this blog over the years, and I hope that while leaving this up I can still build new friendships. I don't know what made me decided not to give up trying to relate with people, maybe it is God. I am not sure but I don't want to give up just yet so if you want to read some new poems please visit the site. Thanks!

When the hits continue rolling in,
I find myself running towards my deepest fears

I'm still kicking up the dust from these dirt fulled carpets,
Fighting against these creaking doors,
and I blame it all on the these grey walls.

Out of this old beat up home?

I am a Nerd and A little obsessed

In the last ten years I have been the loser, the coward, and the scared. I have been the brokenhearted, and the depressed. I have been sheltered and the wimp. I have been the geek and the laughed at, but right now in this very moment, I am the Nerd. When I was a kid the word Nerd was deemed as an insult, and today I take it in stride. Today the word Nerd means something else, cool, hipster, brave, and in some cases popular. I was one of those kids that grow up watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon from the 80’s that had the matching pajamas, and the each turtle action figure. I watched all of the Live Action Films and dreamed of them making a new one. A Nerd is a person, typically described as being overly intellectual, obsessive, or socially impaired. Okay maybe I am not overly intellectual, but I am can be obsessive and social impaired. Since I was a kid I obsessed over Video Games like; Super Mario Brothers, Asteroids, Duck Hunt, Twisted Metal, and Sports Game Made by EA Sports. Through my teen years I would consistently play NBA Live (1998-2009), and Madden (1998-2011) every single day after school. I spent a lot of time on these games creating players, and playing through the seasons. Let’s just say I had a bit of a problem. The good thing was that I finally broke my obsession from these video games and in all honestly it was because a girl. But even though that obsession was over my following of every NFL, NBA, NHL and once MLB game continued. This obsession started back in 1999 and went on until 2012. This was a problem because it came before everything in my life. The truth is the day I realized that these sporting events didn’t matter to my life I went cold turkey. Now I do catch a game here and there but I am okay if I miss one; for example for someone who LOVES basketball I missed most of the NBA this season. I guess I have more important things in my life right now, and she will always come first.
Even though I had to learn what was more important in my life like Jesus is way more important than football on Sundays. I have still had some obsessions or times where I have “Nerded out” In recent years I have been really into comic books, Superhero’s. I have come to the point where I don’t really care if it is a cartoon I will watch it. Justice League, Adventure Time, and Superman: Doomsday, Batman: Year One, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths these are just a few. But I guess I have digressed from my childhood days. I did just recently watched Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and then watched the Avengers, does that make me obsessed? I am really excited in seeing Man of Steel. I recently got into Comics like; All New X-Men, Avengers Assemble, Injustice- Gods Among Us, Justice League, and The Walking Dead. I feel like each day that goes by I become more and more immersed into the things around me, and the fun doesn’t stop there. I love music and I am always or at least the last five years have been on a consistent search for new and interesting bands, and then there is TV shows, well let’s not go there. Besides being a complete Superhero Nerd I seem to have a bit of a problem. Now I can say that these things don’t take up all my time, and I can stop if I want to, so I am not being controlled. But how will this shape the rest of my life I do now I am only going to get busier, so I guess the things that are most important will come out on time, and these distractions will fade in the distance just like the sports did. It is crazy to look back at all those years and see myself lost in this games, movies, television, and I wonder why I am not very social. Maybe I need to start working on that. In all honesty I do spend a lot of time in my Church and in College so maybe I am more obsessed with those? Oh and my favorite superhero is Superman, My favorite Superhero movie so far is The Avengers with The Dark Knight in a close second. I do still play Video Games and I am excited for The Last of Us, and The New Turtles Game. If you have any questions or want to let me know your favorites I like to read, so type away.

The Disobedent Son on a Ruined Path

He fades like the sunny skies
As the storm rolls in from the west
There goes his head off its axis.
You can take all of your power

That is tethered to your heart.
He cracks like a pillar of salt
From staring off into the greed

When we would talk about our never ending love.
I remember dreaming with you about growing old,
When we would bicker like an old married couple.

I remember standing out in the cold,
While my broken heart fought with the air,
Because no matter how loud I yelled,

I remember losing fights in my mind,

Is There Still Beauty!

If we look out into the sunset we can still get a glimpse of God’s beautiful creation, and to be honest it is so beautiful. The truth is during the day we witness, read, or tell about some horrible thing that has gone on in this world. I do wish we didn’t have to live like this, like in constant fear of something terrifying happening to someone in our family or ourselves. I never thought I would want to raise a child in a world like this in fact I have rejected it so often. We can’t for sure say what the world will be like in ten, twenty years from now, that is scary! There is no way to explain it beside sin has run wild on this world and there are only a few out of a handful that are fighting it. I can’t even trust believers of Christ because they also have accepted sin in their lives, and no I am not included in this because I hate the sin in my life and I will never stop fighting it. But there are some people out there that just wear it like a crown. Sadly, it is most men from what I have seen when men come together or young men (let me make this correction) they talk about women. I find it to be disguising and I can’t bare it. I am not the type of male that is going to sit with my buddy’s and talk about how hot some girl’s body is when I have a beautiful girlfriend on my arm. Even when I was single I didn’t do this, I don’t understand, even when just stepping out of Church? Are these the men that will one day be leading Churches? I hope not. I am in no way saying that I don’t struggle with sin, but I don’t proudly talk about it with my friends I fight against it. “My sins and I don’t get along.” I never really wanted to call anyone out, but I have seen it way to much lately and I am sick of it. I can’t stand Christian or non-Christian men saying dirty things about women. I can’t stand it. It shocks me that I have been hearing it more and more from Christian men these days. Where do we draw the line? When will be the day where a man will seek the heart of a women, and express is Godly love to her instead of treating her like a piece of meat? It is crazy to think that this is only one of many disgusting ways men treat women. Do you think Jesus went around hitting girls up, and talking dirty to them? Where is the love, men? Have you all conformed to this world? I am just wondering, where are the real Godly men? It is also sad to see this come out of a Christian University, and Churches. We have really made a mess of this thing, and sometimes it is hard to look at, but like I said earlier there are still some beautiful parts of this world. I wish we could look towards the beauty and not have to fear the darkness that has taken over.

Our Time to Shine

These are the days we can say that we fought through the storm of chaos that clouds the beauty that is front of us. Even though we stuck with our guns and we hurt from the pain, God was there along the way. This is our time to shine, so stand up and don’t stop dancing, don’t stop singing or working, fighting, don’t stop laughing and crying out to Jesus because we can do anything with the son of God at our sides. It is easy to say that I give up, and then walk away from everything, but that should never be our thought, it should never be an opinion. If we just lift up our heads we can carry through, we can climb the wall, and we can say we made it to the finish line. It will take time and blood, sweat and tears but we can make it to the other side giving God everything that we have inside of our hearts. The days will come where everything in our lives will finally fall into place. I feel that things are finally falling into place for my life, and I really can’t complain about anything in my life because God has truly blessed me with amazing people around me, a beautiful girlfriend that I love so much that treats me amazing even when I make mistakes. I am so grateful for everything God has placed in my life. Even though I am missing things it doesn’t mean that everything is over. Just because I am not getting everything I want doesn’t mean that my life isn’t amazing. Last summer I was in so much pain, and I struggled with it most of the summer with wanting someone I couldn’t have, but now I have someone so much better. I have to remember things will fall into place more because my God is amazing, and I can’t thank him enough. I know I say this a lot but I so know what it feels like to lose track of what is right in front of me and that is God. I get so wrapped up in these worldly things. I saw something amazing today and that was people that I love, and have seen on campus for a couple of years and people from my past, celebrate graduation, and I truly want that, so this is where I say I am not giving up this fight so easily there are hard times to come, and amazing times, but the storm will pass and God will shine his light on my life.

I hope we can all open our eyes and see what beauty God brings in our lives, and stop pointing out the destruction. I hope we can open our hearts to the people around us and spread the good news of Jesus Christ because it is what people need. “Without Jesus you have nothing.” God doesn’t need to bless me with all the money in the world; He doesn’t have to give me five cars and a big house, because all I need is his loving arms wrapped around me. I wish a lot of people could see this side to God, and it is sad that a lot of people view God as a wrathful God and not a Loving God. I pray we can open our eyes to the truth, we are all God’s children, so let’s spread our love. I hope that this summer will bring joy in your lives, and that your relationship with God will grow greater, better and stronger. I hope amazing things happen in your lives because I believe that they can happen. So, please don’t lose faith, God loves you so much, so spread your love. And remember; this is our time to shine, so stand up and don’t stop dancing, don’t stop singing or working, fighting, don’t stop laughing and crying out to Jesus.

I took everything that was given
Smashing and stumbling through the hard times
But I am breaking through this sadness
And I am leaving it all behind me.
My heart has been through the gutter,
It has been dragged through the muck,
And stomped on by the heartless.
When the day hits me like thunder
Even when the waves crush me,
And they suck me under like a tornado.
I am still bracing myself for the fall.
Because I know there will be days,
Where I just won’t be able to get up.
So won’t you be there for me,
Helping me up off the gravel?
And when you crumble to the ground,
I will be there waiting lifting when you have fallen down.
I took a look at the midnight sky and there was very little light,
But the one star that shines in my life.
We will struggle to learn our lessons,
And we will burn for all our mistakes,
But joy will come like a smack in the face,
So don’t you lose your faith,

Because this love will never go away.

I am losing a little part of me
I am still singing to the clouds
But silence always follows
Don’t leave me homeless Take my breath away
I am a poor son
So disgraceful
I am losing the heart of this life
I am fighting for what is wrong
Making all of the naught mistakes
Won’t you take them all from me?
Oh honorable One
Do you love me, for me?
I feel like the root of this disease
Won’t you show me the Holy way?
Because I am still lost in this wilderness
I continue to follow the clouds in the sky,
But here I am questioning why.
Won’t you lead me in your direction?
Show me a sign.
