All New 2012 Kia Optima K5 Launched

Naza Kia Malaysia launched the long awaited Kia Optima K5 today at a special event at their new flagship Kia Red Cube in Petaling Jaya, and Kia is confident of their new offering.

Under the hood is Kia Motors’ fuel-efficient Theta II 2.0-litre petrol engine which produces 165 ps and 198 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Among the premium features included are auto-levelling HID xenon headlamps, individual LED daytime running headlights, dual-zone auto air-conditioner, a plush leather interior, a panoramic sunroof, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and 18-inch alloy wheels. There are no less than six airbags around the cabin and the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) will help the driver avoid accidents.

All-new Optima K5 has been launched at its first ever Kia Red Cube in Malaysia which is located in Petaling Jaya alongside the Federal Highway. 2011 Honda CR-Z Hybrid 1.5-litre Launched in Malaysia

Recently, the long awaited 2011 Honda CR-Z made its debut and launched in Malaysia after the latest announcement in the Budget 2012 about the full exemption of import duty and excise duty for Hybrid models (for 2.0-litre or below) until December 2013. The CR-Z is the third hybrid vehicle that Honda introduces to Malaysians, after the Honda Civic Hybrid and Honda Insight.

Technically, the CR-Z is designed to deliver exceptional fuel economy while offering an entertaining and engaging driving experience. It combines an efficient 84-kilowatt (114PS) 1.5L SOHC i-VTEC engine, a 10-kilowatt (14PS) electric motor and a sophisticated Intelligent Power Unit (IPU).

Additionally, the All-New CR-Z is the first model to feature Honda’s versatile 3-Mode Drive System, which enables the driver to choose and switch modes seamlessly depending on their driving style and road situation. Upgraded Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI

An enhanced version of the Polo 1.2 TSI is in Volkswagen showrooms from today. Equipped with more value added features, the most significant are the fitment of 7Jx17 ‘Boavista’ alloy wheels and the double RCD 310 audio system with a CD player, USB adapter cable and MEDIA-IN mobile device interface. Other new features include foglights and a centre front armrest.

Engine specifications are unchanged but then again, the 1.2-litre 105 ps/175 Nm turbocharged engine is already quite a powerhouse and, together with the 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), its performance is already pretty impressive – claimed 9.7 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and top speed of 190 km/h.

The Polo 1.2 TSI is also economical – up to 18.9 kms/litre is claimed – but we often hear owners saying they can’t get it. However, they also realize it’s not a false claim by Volkswagen as it is their inability to resist enjoying the exhilarating performance that the car offers!

2011 Toyota HILUX - Specification and Performance Review

The new Toyota Hilux had its official launch on 21st September 2011 with a target of 14,000 units to be sold in 2011. Prior to today’s event, Toyota showrooms had already received some 3,000 orders for the new model, the latest version of Malaysia’s best-selling pick-up since its introduction in 2005.

There have been some very significant changes to the look of the Hilux. On the exterior, vertical flowing lines connect the new hood, new front grille and new bumper design. Toyota has also added new alloy rims and rear combination lamp design.

The Hilux 3.0G has a more powerful D-4D Common-Rail engine with Intercooler Variable Nozzle Turbo (VNT) that offers a maximum 120 kW/ 163 PS of power at 3,400 rpm and 343 Nm of torque at between 1,400 and 3,200 rpm. The Intercooler lowers the ingoing air temperature making it denser and oxygen-rich giving better combustion. The VNT varies airflow speed according to driving conditions improving low-speed torque, maximizes power output and fuel consumption whilst reducing emissions.

The Hilux 2.5L is also powered by the by the reliable Toyota D-4D turbodiesel engine with Common-Rail Direct Injection technology. This technology improves the performance of the diesel engine as well as enhances driveability, comfort and fuel economy, besides lowering noise levels. With Common-Rail Direct Injection, a high pressure for fuel delivery is maintained at all speeds, along a single shared fuel line (the common rail) to the four cylinders.

The interior has a more modern-looking image, including a darker interior colour, new centre cluster design, and new steering wheel with audio and Multi-Information Display (MID) switches. Customers also have the option of Toyota‟s built-in DVD-Audio-Video Navigation (AVN) system package with a reverse camera.

Perodua Myvi 1.5 SE and Myvi 1.5 Extreme Launched

Perodua has launched two 1.5-litre variants, Myvi SE and Myvi Extreme, which promise a combination of style, comfort and power, are expected to be well received by the Malaysian public. The two variants are available with manual and automatic transmissions.

The SE or Special Edition comes in five colours; solid Majestic Yellow, solid Ivory white, Metallic Mystical Purple, Metallic Ebony Black and Metallic Glittering Silver. But the Extreme body colours are limited to a choice of three: solid Majestic Yellow, Solid Ivory White and Metallic Ebony Black.

The engine, which is the same one as that in the Alza MPV, is the star attraction. The 1.5-litre DOHC, 16V DVVT powerplant produces 102bhp at 6,000rpm and maximum torque of 136Nm at 4,400rpm. With more power under the bonnet, the latest manual variants can accelerate from 0-100kph in 9.98 seconds compared with the previous Myvi SE’s performance of 12.49 seconds.

Both variants are equipped with anti-lock braking system and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution for enhanced safety. The SE and Extreme are equipped with bodykit and interior specifications to look sporty with the Extreme version having a styling that looks even more aggressive than the SE.

For the first time, the leather-wrapped steering wheel in both cars are fitted with audio controls and the meter cluster gets red lighting to set it apart from the 1.3-litre Myvis. A 6-inch touchscreen multimedia system with navigation is standard in the Extreme but is an option for the automatic SE.

The SE and Extrem will only be sold domestically for now and cater to young and urban executives who want a car that is sporty and premium. The new variants are expected to contribute 45% to the monthly sales of 8,000 units of the Myvi model.

Prices ranged from RM50,900 to RM61,700. The SE (manual) and SE (automatic) are RM50,900 and RM53,900 respectively. The SE (automatic) with sat-nav is RM56,000, while the Extreme (manual) and Extreme (automatic) are RM58,200 and RM61,200 respectively.

All prices quoted are for solid colour variants, with metallic colours an extra RM500.

Honda Malaysia announces recall for 2006-2008 Civic, 2006-2007 City and 2005-2007 Jazz

Today, Honda Motor Co. announced a global recall of more than 900,000 vehicles. In Malaysia, Civic of Year 2006-2008, City of Year 2006-2007 and Jazz of Year 2005-2007 will be recall under this product update campaign. According to the Japanese automaker, the campaign aims to implement preventive measures against undesired technical issues in the affected units.

Back in July, Honda Malaysia had recalled the Stream of Year 2008-2010. Now, it follow by 3 more models.

“Honda Malaysia would like to apologize to all customers for the inconvenience caused. The campaign aims to implement a few preventive measures against technical failure. This is an early call for inspection and replacement, of which we believe could sustain the best product performance for customers in spite of the technical irregularities,” said Yoichiro Ueno, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Honda Malaysia.

For 2006-2008 Civic, it is reported that affected units experienced oil leakage from the power steering feed hose, caused by deterioration from running in hot and humid weather. Though the affected units may not cause serious safety issues, the possibility of a technical breakdown might show in the future. Honda Malaysia will change the rubber material for the power steering feed hose to improve its heat resistance. The campaign expects to involve 16,537 units of 2006-2008 Civic.

On the other hand, we are unable to confirm whether the 2007-2008 Civic Type R which is fully imported from Japan will be recall under the same campaign. Anyway, our producer will be contacting Honda Malaysia for further clarification on this.

2006-2007 City and 2005-2007 Jazz are prone to possible failure of its power window master switch, which under certain conditions, could cause a minor short-circuit resulting in a burnt smell. Honda Malaysia will change all the affected units with a counter measure power window switch. The product update campaign will involve 20,949 units of 2006-2007 City and 2,970 units of 2005-2007 Jazz.

Honda Malaysia would like to assure its customers that all current selling models are not affected. Necessary replacement will be carried out when the parts are ready. All parts and labour charges incurred in the replacement work will be borne by Honda Malaysia.

2011 Mazda3 MPS - A Turbocharged Engine

The 2011 Mazda3 MPS has been officially launched in Malaysia for RM 179,895.20 (price includes insurance). At the heart of the Mazda3 MPS is the award-winning MZR 2.3-litre DISI turbocharged engine, and Mazda has outfitted its hot hatch with enough visual differentiation to stand out.

Aesthetically, the Mazda3 MPS wears 18" aluminium wheels with high-performance Dunlop tyres, bonnet-mounted intercooler scoop, bi-xenon headlamps, LED tail lights, revamped front and rear bumpers, side skirts, black rear valance, and roof-mounted rear spoiler.

Inside, the black-coloured cabin carries over the Mazda3’s dash design but adds red graphic design on the seats and trim fabric plus red stitching on the seats, door trim, steering wheel, shift lever and center armrest. Audi A1 1.4 TFSI Engine Comes to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Now available in Malaysia with a 1.4 TFSI engine and seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, the A1 is Audi’s answer to the MINI.

The chic and sophisticated compact promises a high fun to drive factor in a small package. Boasting a sporty suspension and chassis set up with good weight distribution, the car sprints from zero to 100kph in 8.9 seconds.

The dual clutch transmission promises very quick shifts and paddle shifters are an available option.

The 1.4 TFSI engine churns out 122 PS.

RON97 petrol price drops 10 sen

KUALA LUMPUR: The price of RON97 petrol will be reduced by 10 sen from today to RM2.80 per litre.

The chairman of the Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia, Datuk Hashim Othman, said the drop in the price of the fuel was in line with the current world market price.

"It's good that the price drops, it can ease the burden of RON97 petrol consumers, although only 10 sen, at least there is a reduction," he said here last night.

Since ealy this year, the price of RON97 petrol had been increased on four occasions to reach the current price of RM2.90 per litre.

However, the price of RON95 petrol remains at RM1.90 per litre.

New Perodua Myvi will be launched on 16 June 2011

Perodua is set to launch the new Myvi this coming Thursday, 16th June 2011.

Debut in 2005, Perodua Myvi is the best-selling car in Malaysia for 5 consecutive years (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010)

Proton, the arch rival of Perodua, through the launching of new Saga, has slowly eroding the sales of Myvi over the past 2 years. Feeling threaten, it responded in the most straightforward manner – introducing a new model to revive the buying interest.

Hypes and expectations

The new model of this highly successful car has triggered a lot of hypes and expectations from the community. Here I’ve come up my own list of questions & answers:

1. Will the new Myvi get a 1.5 liter engine ?

NO : The whole selling point of a compact car, among others, is fuel efficiency. Why go for a higher capacity engine when the 1.3 liter Myvi is powerful enough to satisfy the normal driving conditions.

YES : For those who enjoy the thrill of acceleration, 1.3 liter engine is slightly underpowered.

2. Will the new Myvi sold at a higher price ?

NO : It only makes Proton Saga looks more affordable.

YES : Malaysia is gearing up towards a high income nation, people start to appreciate “quality over cheap price”. In terms of build quality and reputation, Perodua outclass Proton by a comfortable margin.

3. Myvi continue to be the best-selling car in Malaysia in 2011, 2012, 2013 … 2020 ?

NO : The auto market in Malaysia will be liberalized further, by cutting down the import tax, soon we can buy foreign car at more competitive price...Stop dreaming ! Wake up !!!

YES : Malaysian likes to show patriotism through the act of buying local-made product. In the spirit of 1Malaysia, we will continue to support Myvi, even though the price we pay for a Myvi can buy us a Honda Civic in some countries.

Honda Resumes Taking INSIGHT Orders

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd's Alor Gajah plant will resume full production on Aug 1, and will try to increase production units by operating additional hours to catch up with the shortage of supply from April through July.

The company has also started accepting new bookings of the Insight hybrid from Wednesday.

Honda Malaysia managing director and CEO Yoichiro Ueno said: "Honda associates in Japan have worked tirelessly with our suppliers since the disaster in March to recover the supply of component parts from Japan.

"Hence, we are pleased to announce that we are be able to resume full production much earlier than previously expected."

Insight bookings were suspended on April 7 following a parts shortage in the aftermath of Japan quake and tsunami.

All other Honda models are not effected and orders can be placed at any authorised Honda dealers nationwide.

That's right, this is the 2012 Honda Civic in all its glory. Though it might be difficult to tell with just a casual glance, this Civic is brand-new, sharing practically nothing but its moniker with the previous generation. As much as we may have liked some additional visual flair, it seems Honda is being conservative and aiming right for the heart of the market with five separate and distinct flavors of its compact offering, each of which offers a notable improvement in fuel efficiency.

We'll start with the all-new HF model, which, as you may have guessed, is the most fuel efficient of the non-hybridized Civics that will be available in the United States. Honda expects the HF, with its 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine, to earn EPA-estimated fuel economy of 41 miles per gallon on the highway. The HF will share its aerodynamics package with the returing Civic Hybrid, which manages a combined rating of 45 mpg (a four-mpg improvement over the outgoing Civic Hybrid) thanks to its lithium-ion battery – a Honda-first – and 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine and CVT transmission. There's also a natural gas-powered Civic GX.

While those two models aim for the ultimate in fuel efficiency, we imagine that the standard Sedan and Coupe models will make up the bulk of sales. Buyers will find a 1.8-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine underhood with 140 horsepower that scores an EPA-estimated 39 mpg on the highway (a three-mpg improvement over the last Civic). The Civic soldiers on with a five-speed automatic at a time when most of its competitors are packing six ratios.

And then, of course, there's the sporty Si model. As the Civic that's meant to steal the hearts of performance lovers, it's nice to see a new 2.4-liter powerplant with 200 horsepower mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Perhaps more importantly, the larger mill pumps out 170 pound-feet of torque, a 22-percent increase over the outgoing twist-starved Si. All that and an additional two mpg on the highway (31 mpg estimated) ought to make for a reasonably fun everyday commuter.

And now to the styling. We'll start off on a positive note: the 2012 Honda Civic is not ugly. Problem is, it's also not hugely attractive. In fact, *yawn* it's not really anything. Both inside and out, this latest Civic is barely distinguishable from the previous generation, and as competitors continue pushing their design envelope forward, well... we really expect more these days. Let's hope the driving dynamics live up to our lofty expectations, and let's also hope that Honda accidentally left the shipping blocks in the cars it used for photography – particularly the Si models – or the new model looks a bit high-riding.

Microsoft will help connect Toyota cars to Internet

SEATTLE — Microsoft Corp and Toyota Motor Corp unveiled a plan on Wednesday to work together on bringing internet-connected services to Toyota's cars.

The world's biggest software company and the biggest automaker said they were investing 1 billion yen or about $12 million in Toyota Media Service Co, a Toyota unit that handles its digital offerings for customers.

The unit will focus on combining telecommunications and data for drivers in the form of GPS, multimedia, and managing power on electric and hybrid vehicles.

Toyota is planning to set up a network based on Microsoft's Azure "cloud computing" platform by 2015, which would allow customers across the world access to Toyota's digital services.

One of the services Toyota is planning will monitor and integrate a person's power usage across the home and car to maximize efficiency.

The partnership with Toyota is a departure for Microsoft, which so far has focused most of its auto industry technology efforts on Ford Motor Co.

PETALING JAYA: The Honda Accord is dressed up differently for 2011.

Here are briefly the changes:

> Chrome front grill and bumper;

> Cabin tweaks such as thicker floor mat for improved insulation and leather steering wheel for VTi-L and VTi;

> 17” alloy wheel design (2.4-litre VTi-L only)

The three variants are still sold at the same prices with the 2.0-litre VTi at RM142,800; 2.0-litre VTi-L at RM149,800; and 2.4-litre VTi-L at RM172,800.

The Accord is available in five colours with Celestial Blue Metallic being new. Other existing hues are Taffeta White, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Polished Metal Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl.

The all new Sorento features an aggressive and muscular stance thanks to Kia’s signature tiger nose grille and High Intensity Discharge (HID) wraparound headlamps which portray straight clean lines giving a solid and robust appearance. The sporty appearance is further accentuated with 18 inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, LED rear combi lights and LED side repeaters on the side view mirrors. The new Sorento’s overall length is 4,685mm and width of 1885mm makes it longer, lower and more spacious than the previous generation of Sorento.

The SUV is powered by 2.4 Litre DOHC CVVT engine that produces an output of 174ps and 226Nm of torque that is mated to a six speed automatic transmission for a more sporty and exhilarated drive. The suspension system of Sorento consist of a compact and lighter Macpherson strut front suspension and a fully independent multi link rear suspension while its four wheel drive system enables off road driving capabilities.

In terms of creature comfort, the seven seater Sorento offers generous head and leg rooms for its occupant. The SUV also includes a push button start ignition with a smart key, a panoramic sun roof, a stylish supervision cluster, in dash six disc CD changer, AUX, USB and Ipod connectivity, Bluetooth connection and also a dual separate climate control for the driver and front passengers. The 2nd row and 3rd row passengers also have their own air cond vents where the 2nd row passenger air cond vent is at the B-pillar and for the 3rd row air cond vent located at the quarter panel cover on both sides.

The Sorento seating configuration allows for the second row and third row to be folded completely flat, with the back row having 50/50 while the center row can be split 60/40 to accommodate passengers and bulk cargo. In terms of safety, the new Sorento is equipped with a total six airbags (dual front, side airbags and curtain airbags), four wheels ABS, ESC and EBD. Other features includes the Hill Start Assist Control which prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards when trying to pull away from an uphill gradient and there is alsoa Downhill Brake Control which helps keep the Sorento moving straight and steady down steep grades without applying any brakes as long as the speed is below 8km/h.

The new Sorento is fitted with electric chromic mirror (ECM) with a 3.5 inch rear view monitor on the rear view mirror with an added rear parking sensors and active headrest to cushion the driver or passenger’s head and prevent whiplash during a collision.

Other highlights of the new Sorento includes a leather wrapped steering wheel with audio mounted controls, auto levelling device for the HID headlamp, a cargo net to secure loose items in the trunk , a cargo screen to keep personal belongings from prying eyes, a centre console that can store many items which includes a 14 inch laptop, a 10 way driver’s seat.

Against general perceptions that hybrid cars are not widely accepted or attainable due to their perceived impractical designs or expensive price tags, Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd introduced the All-New Insight to the Malaysia market at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2010 (KLIMS 2010). This newly launched entry hybrid model broke new grounds with its combination of appealing design and practical functions, allowing more Malaysians who desire to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle to do so effortlessly without compromising on style, practicality and the fun of driving.

The resulting concept is a compact 5-door hatchback entry hybrid model that features an aerodynamic shape exterior inspired by the Aero Athlete design concept. The sharp wedge shaped body that ends with an aero tail sparks off an athletic motion that is both exciting and functional. The overall athletic feel is further enhanced by muscular yet elegant bodylines that flex a well-defined dynamic tension. PUCHONG: Perodua today added the Viva Elite Exclusive Edition to its model line-up.

The latest variant of the Viva is pitched mainly at young urban women, sporting new features inside and out, and coming in a new body colour called classy purple. It is also available in ivory white and midnight blue.

Much of the changes are in the interior. It's equipped with custom coloured alloy wheels and an Exclusive Edition grade mark.

The cabin gets a new meter combination design and silver-painted door armrests and gearshift bezel. Leather seats come with embroidered detailing and new stitching orientation. The centre cluster has a dark purple metallic finish and the steering wheel is leather-wrapped.

Perodua aims to sell 600 units of the ViVA Elite Exclusive Edition a month.

The ViVA Elite is the best-selling variant in the model line-up.

According to Perodua managing director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh, a monthly average of 2,400 ViVA Elite units were sold this year.

"A total of 240,000 ViVA units have been sold since it was launched in 2007 and the ViVA Elite ... consists of 41.4% or 24,000 units from a total of 58,000 units of the ViVA sold in the first 10 months of the year."

The Exclusive Edition goes on the road at RM41,600 and is RM400 more with metallic colour.

In tandem with the car launch, Perodua also opened its new service centre here which has been relocated from the old Puchong site.

"The change in venue is to make it more convenient for our customers as the (new) location is next to our sales branch, hence making it a 3S one-stop centre," said Aminar.

It has 16 bays of which 14 have hoists, and is expected to be able to service 1,500 cars a month.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has expanded the Lancer range in our market with the Lancer Sportback 2.4 now added to the line-up sitting alongside the 2.0-litre Lancer EX and Lancer GT sedans. The new model is the first C-segment entry by any manufacturer in Malaysia to feature an engine as large as 2.4 litres.

Priced at RM132,980 inclusive of insurance, Mitsubishi hopes to put the car in the considerations of those looking to either upgrade from the C-segment or downsize from the D-segment. A limited-run (30 units) special edition Lancer Sportback LE with Ralliart accessories goes for just under RM135,000.

Powering the Lancer Sportback is the 2.4-litre version of the all-aluminium GEMA 'World Engines' whose architecture is shared with Hyundai and Chrysler. The Mitsubishi version is code-named 4B12 and features MIVEC technology, putting out 168hp @ 6,000rpm and 226Nm @ 4,100rpm. Like the Lancer sedans, the Sportback also uses the INVECS-III CVT with six virtual ratios.

The Sportback comes with a decent level of specifications and equipment. All-round independent suspension and disc brakes make for a good start. Safety kit includes Active Stability Control with Traction Control (ASC+T), ABS, EBD, BA, and dual airbags. The tyres are still the same uniquely-sized 215/45 R18 Yokohamas as given on the Lancer GT, but we have been told that a number of other tyre manufacturers are starting offer this size of tyres as well.

The Murano has a width of 1885mm, height of 1730mm and a wheelbase of 2825mm. I was amazed by the available amount of space inside the car. Rear passengers can enjoy ample headroom and legroom while there will be no problem fitting 3 adults at the back. Materials used for the interior were top-notch and there were a lot of soft touch padding on the dashboard and door panels. Moreover, the black interior with chromes in the right places gave the interior a classy feel.

The Murano continues to be powered by the 3.5 liter version of the VQ engine. This engine produces 260bhp and 336Nm of torque and an ALL MODE 4×4-i all-wheel drive system is used to power the car. It is also equipped with Nissan’s XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) that delivers consistent gear shifting, smooth, effortless acceleration and great fuel economy.

Murano didn’t fail in the safety department too! It is equipped with 6 airbags, active head restraints, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and zone body construction with pedestrian-injury reduction to mitigate impact of the heads and chests of pedestrians. These will ensure the car protects you and your passengers when an imminent impact will happen.

Priced at RM330,000, it goes head to head with the more expensive Lexus RX350 and the cheaper Mazda CX-7. However, with a solid foundation Murano has in Malaysia, Nissan shouldn’t be worried on its sales performance.

Prices Of Hybrid Cars Expected To Be More Attractive Next Year

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- The prices of hybrid cars are expected to be more attractive next year to boost sales after Budget 2011 announcement of duty exemptions for the cars below 2,000 cc until Dec 31, 2011.

President of Malaysian Automotive Association, Datuk Aishah Ahmad, said currently, hybrid cars in Malaysia were expensive where fewer than 300 cars had been sold.

"The prices will definitely go down next year. At the moment, the industry players are doing the pricing," she told a media briefing after the launch of KL International Motor Show 2010's (KLIMS'10) advertising and promotional campaign here today.

The campaign, entitled 'We Care', was launched by Tourism Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.

Aishah said the granting of a manufacturing plant licence to Berjaya Corp Bhd by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry for the assembly of commercial vehicles, hybrid cars, electric cars and luxury passenger vehicles was a good sign for Malaysia's motor vehicle industry.

"This may attract more investors to come to Malaysia and it will be a good opportunity for the industry," she said.

KLIMS'10, which will be held from Dec 3-12 this year, is expected to attract 330,000 visitors and tourists.

The event will be held at Putra World Trade Centre.
