It's a New Year ~ I'm feeling Sassy and Strong

Happy New Year Everyone! As you all may or may not know from my last post, 2011 was a challenging year. I'm finally feeling like myself again and look forward to getting back to blogging. My creative energy is back and I'm feeling it in all aspects of my life. I cannot wait to get started. I took the week off from work and had hoped to get a jump start on blog posts but unfortunately, I got sucked into Pinterest. Boy, if you haven't used this site, get ready. I intended on cleaning my room and getting organized today. It's 12:33 PM and I'm typing this and in between playing on Pinterest. You can view my boards at http://pinterest.com/peggyandfritz/. I got a new lap top for my birthday from my boyfriend - nice guy :) I'm trying to get use to the keyboard. It has the number keyboard on the side and shifts the actual letter keyboard to the left. I'm trying to get use to typing off center. It's making me crazy so if you see a lot of typing errors that's why! Well time to actually go get some stuff done around the house. I'm looking forward to reconnecting with all of you. Nothing like a little leopard print to bring out the sass in a girl. I'm ready to roar this year! How about you? A Time to Give Thanks

Thanksgiving is about giving thanks and sharing the holidays with the people we love or maybe not, LOL! At our house, we usually host those that can’t make it home. Some years we have had a full house and some years we’ve had just a few people. Friends bring friends or someone they know doesn’t have a place to go, we don’t discriminate. One year, my girlfriend Nick brought the local mailman. It always makes it more enjoyable and interesting. We have a tradition where we go around the table and say what we are thankful for… The guys all groan, it puts our new guests on the spot and the rest of the “regulars” giggle. It always ends up being fun and meaningful. The best thing about an orphan Thanksgiving is there is no drama, complaining, or conflicts. Everyone is just happy to have a place to come together and usually our dinners last well into the evening.

This year Thanksgiving has extra meaning for me. It’s no secret that I have not blogged over the last few months. My creativity and mind has been pre-occupied by something bigger. As you know my posts started to get less frequent last spring just as I was getting new readers. I was so excited that you took the time to read my blog. Especially knowing how many amazing bloggers there are out there. Mine started as a way to communicate with my friends and along the way I met new friends. The one thing I admired about many bloggers was their ability to be truthful and sincere. I think it’s time I’m honest with all of you. I really struggled over whether I should divulge this because doing so means I am divulging this to some of my friends who will be hearing this for the first time. But I finally realized, the importance of honesty and how as women we really need to share information. By sharing information, we can make better and more informed to decisions and assist each other along the way. It is my hope that I can lend a hand to someone and/or guide them like so many did for me. The truth of the matter is….in June after having a lumpectomy, I was diagnosed with the early stages of Breast Cancer.

Over the next four months I had two additional surgeries, a whole lot of doctors appointments (14 but who’s counting), two MRI’s, a set of titanium clips and a pair or lovely wires put into my boob. I went from one doctor to four and a whole lot of second opinions. The positive news is my cancer was non-invasive and chemo was not required. However, five weeks of radiation was required. I am happy to report this Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving is my last day of treatment. While there are many factors that go into treatment, I won’t bore you with the details now but at some point, I will share with you things that you should look for and how my diagnosis came to be. Had it not been for four of my friends that had breast cancer, I would still be walking around with BC and going untreated. It’s so important to trust your instincts and know what questions to ask. We must be our own advocate and as women share information. I consider myself very fortunate and extremely lucky. Especially, since the people I know people had to face far more than me. Overall, I feel everything happens for a reason, and truly believe my cancer was found because I listened to my inner voice and had an amazing doctor. I have much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving.

As you can imagine, I had to take a step back from blogging. There were so many times I wanted to blog but in the end, I just didn’t have the energy. I worried about losing my subscribers if I wasn’t blogging regularly. Then I thought, I can’t get caught up in that. I do have to say I had some faithful readers who have twittered or emailed me. Especially, Ms. Katie at www.goodniteirene.com who has an amazing blog (gorgeous images and has an amazing writing style). I only wish I could write like her or come up with the adjectives and analogies like she does. Also, Ms. Karen at http://gardenhomeandparty.com/ who is always so kind and we share a love for gardening. Living in LA we all have our limitations, so I love watching what she does with her small space. I just want to say thank you to you both! I look forward to getting back to blogging!

I want to thank my family and friends for being so supportive. I also want thank my two roommates from college Laura and Cari for coming to visit me in October. I know how hard it was for them having families but it meant to the world to me. It was great to have my East Coast friends meet my West Coast friends. Some for the first time. It was truly a special and magical weekend for me. Friendship is such an amazing gift and I’m very grateful for the wonderful friends I have. They have been there every step of the way for me with giggles, their kindness, and listening to all my crazy doctor stories.

Thanksgiving is also about celebrating friends, family, and being there for someone in need. The holidays can make any of us a little crazy. May we all be a little kinder and say please and thank you. Everyone wants to feel appreciated. Nate Berkus and Classic Design

It's fall and I'm getting inspired to put together a bucket list for our house. It's in dire need of an update. While I have a good eye for finding things on a budget, we need some high ticket items, which includes a new sofa and chair. I've been working with the same one for 13 plus years and I have to say, if it wasn't for a man in the house, it would be in mint condition (sorry Blake). I'm starting to make a list room by room of what I would like to change. The problem for me is, I would like to change everything, but I can't afford to. Therefore, I feel like I'm in an episode of Project Runway with Tim Gunn saying, "Make it work!" I've been combing through old design magazines and catching up with some design shows like Nate Berkus's new show to try to get some creative ideas on a budget. I have always loved Nate's work. Personally, there are very few designers that I would have do my house if I hit lotto. I love Nate's design work along with Tim Clarke (I love his website), Kathryn Ireland for her wit and color choices, which by the way, I could never put together, Peter Dunham (I was in his house once, it was out of this world) and a few others which I'm too lazy to go find the links. HMMM. That's a great idea for a blog post.

After seeing Nate's first project years ago on Oprah, which essentially launched his career, (when he redid a 500 square foot townhouse in Charleston, MA) I knew he was talented. I formally lived in Boston and know how small those apartments and condos are and how challenging it can be to eat, entertain, work, sleep, and relax in a single space. I was so blown away how he maximized the space and made it multi-functional. I've been a fan, since. What I love about him as a designer in general, is his ability to incorporate his clients personality and treasures into a home without it feeling tacky. Let's face it, some people just don't have good taste and working with some of their stuff can be a challenge. I love when Oprah asked Nate how he handled clients where his first thought was, "Are you kidding me?" He simply said, "I say wow a lot or isn't that interesting." I thought, what a great way of saying it without saying it.

The other thing that Nate does well, is combining unique accessories and furniture. He's very good at taking natural elements and materials and mixing them without them feeling over done or staged. It always feels collected and natural. I like houses to feel neat and clean but eclectic and timeless, that's how I feel about his designs. His design sense doesn't require you to redo it every two to three years and his advise is dead on - purchase a sofa in a neutral color and you can dress it up with pillows. It's like fashion, you don't spend $500.00 on a trendy piece, you splurge on classic staples. You buy your trendy items at Target or H&M, so next year when it's not fashionable, you didn't break the bank.

Now that I went off on my Nate Berkus rant, maybe it's the caffeine so early in the morning. I'm feeling inspired and while many of you have seen these images, I couldn't help but re-posting them. His rooms have a quiet sophistication without feeling stuffy or staged. That is why, Nate is my "cutie pie" as Oprah says. See for your self why I love his designs. See Below:

He's so great with space planning. I love how he does various group seating's in this large space. A room this large can look either over done or too arranged. This room is well balanced considering the size and height of the ceiling.

I love this room below. I don't have the guts to paint a wall this dark but I love how it looks. I love how the art work is different. The furniture makes it look more chic and elegant but it still feels comfortable. It looks like you could use it as a multi purpose room such as: a library, a dining room, a place to drink your coffee, or a place to chat with friends over a glass of wine.

Again, simple and elegant without feeling stuffy (see below). I love how he accessorizes.

As everyone knows, I am fond of white bathrooms. This one had me at hello. I am a symmetrical designer. Some designers do not like symmetry, but I'm all about it. I hate things that feel unbalanced. I'm a Capricorn, after all. The sconces in this bathroom are gorgeous and I like the contrast of windows against the flooring. Calgon take me away. Do you like symmetry?

Gray tones are not something I'm a fan of in my own personal space. I lean more towards white, creams, browns, etc. vs. the gray tones. He does such a great job at using gray, it makes me want to paint all my rooms. The tall leather chair has beautiful lines and the color looks like melted milk chocolate, decadent.

I have always loved this image. I know this is from his old apartment in Chicago. I remember him telling the story of when he bought this, of course, I can't remember it (I just know he loved how worn it was). Plus, how can you not like that cashmere blanket over it (without it being staged by draping over the side in the swirly pattern) and having it placed in front of the fireplace. It just makes me think of snow, winter, hot cocoa, and reading a yummy book.

I'm off to make my list. Thanks to Nate, my cutie pie, he got me all inspired. What are your thoughts on Nate? Do you think he's is a good designer? Who's your favorite designers? I would love to hear what you think.

Paso Robles a Wonderful Getaway

Hi Everyone! It's been a long time and how I missed all of you. I had to step away for a wee bit but promise it was for a good reason. Unfortunately, a vacation was not in the cards for Blake and I this summe. We were fortunate to sneak in a little weekend getaway to Paso Robles. It's about 3 1/2 hours north of Manhattan Beach, although in LA traffic it's more like 4 1/2 - 5 hours. We were looking for something on the quiet side since things have been crazy and we wanted to incorporate a little (ok a lot)wine tasting. Initially, we wanted to rent a house but everything was booked for the weekends we were considering. One of the homeowners, I had contacted regarding renting their house suggested a quaint B&B called Orchard Hill Farms in Paso Robles. I found a room for the second weekend we were considering and booked it before anyone else could get their hands on it. Blake is typically not a B & B guy. He doesn't like having to tip toe around other people or sitting at a community table for breakfast. However, he was pleasantly surprised since the location is very private and there is only three rooms. It offers considerable privacy for the guests.

There is the main house which is where the owners live and one guest room and a second house which, has two rooms and a communal area. The guest house is a perfect place to go with another couple of friends because you have the whole building to yourself. It's wonderful. This was the front of the the guest house as we drove up. Gorgeous.

I love how there was a pair of old cowboy boots under the bench. She had lots of interesting touches like this throughout the property.

The side view of the guest house. The balcony above was off our guest room. They had additional seating below with an outdoor fireplace. I just loved all the indoor and outdoor spaces for you enjoy. It truly was the ultimate quiet getaway.

I loved this photo of these two wood pieces. Looks almost sculptural. This was the view from a common balcony off the living room, which, can be shared by guests. At night the sky was lit up like a Christmas tree and all you could hear were the crickets. I was in heaven.

I was so in love with this statue and his little peeps, I wanted to take him home with me.

Upon your drive up to the house - off to the left hand side of the main they have these fabulous Adirondack chairs sitting along the hillside. One night Blake and I put on our PJ's and poured a glass of wine and sat and enjoyed the sunset here.

The entry to the guest room that is located in the main house (see above). I was dying over these roses. Perfect for my pink garden. Below is a photo of the back of the main house. Each morning Debbie and David serve breakfast to their guests out on the back patio. We met a lovely couple from LA and Europe and the last morning a couple from Chicago. Everyone was so nice.

Each day she has a gorgeous table cloth set out, fresh flowers, vintage silverware, etc. Here are a few of her table settings over the weekend.

I fell in love with this sugar bowl. It actually has a little scooper at the top - you can see the point of it sticking out. If you pull it, a little scooper comes out. How cute is that? Syl this reminded me of something you would have :)

The first day they served fresh fruit and ham and gruyrre cheese croissants that were to die for! The next day, she had chocolate croissants (for me since I don't eat eggs) and little quiches with rosemary sprigs for everyone else. Pomegranate and berry juice served daily with fresh coffee or tea. We had fun watching David the host try to make an espresso for his European guests.

Even the sugar packets were displayed nicely.

I must say this place was a slice of heaven. We went to dinner early every night, read our books...I got eight hours of sleep, something I hadn't had in months. The rooms were so comfortable and they had everything you could imagine. Lovely robes in the rooms, fresh soaps, Molton Brown shampoo and conditioner in the shower. In the main part of the guest house they left you bottled water, sodas, wine and fresh bakery goods. They were the most amazing hosts. We will definitely be back. This is not the place for the go go go....this is where you come to relax and get away.

During the day, we spent our time going to the local wineries. I love good food and wine so before we left, I consulted with our local wine shop, our friend Richard and Wanda Mae as well as all my past issues of Wine Spectator for the hidden gems. Most of the wineries in this area do not sell to stores or restaurants and the ones that do, it is generally local or just in CA. Many of these wineries produce small allocations and sell mainly to their club members or people visiting. This particular area is known for some of the best Syrahs and Rhone blends such as GSM's (Grenache, Syrahs, and Mourvedres {or Mataro for Australia and Spain}), Rose and Viognier. I must say we sampled some lovely Roses, GSM's (my favorites) and Viognier's.

Along the way we stopped at a number of wineries. One of my favorites was Epoch Wines owned by Bill Armstrong. All the wines we tried were amazing, it's no wonder...Justin Smith of Saxum Vineyards (who recently ranked number 100 on the 2010 Wine Spectator top 100 list scored 98 points for his James Berry 2007 wine) is the current wine consultant. Other great places on our list included Terry Hoage Vineyards.

My boyfriend is a football guy and he was familiar with Terry Hoage. A former professional football player turned wine maker. Of course, I'm not interested in whether he's a former football player as much as I am if his wines are good. Along with Brian Benson, Justin Smith of Saxum listed above, Terry's winery was recently named by Wine Spectator as an up and coming winery. I have to say all of the wines we tried we great. For wine aficionados, this is a must visit. We had a chance to visit with Terry. He was very nice, told us how he moved to Paso Robles to ground his children and his love for farming. He said he learned about wine making from Justin Smith from Saxum Vineyards.

Brian Benson was recently featured in Wine Spectator as one of the up and coming winemakers in Paso Robles. Most of his wines were sold out but we found a Syrah we liked. He was very entertaining.

We were recommended to Ecluse by the owners of Orchard Hill Farms. We barrel tasted several Cabernet's in various barrel types such as new french oak, American oak, etc. which will be blended into a single bottle. All were yummy.

Route 46 is a yummy place to stop and pick up sandwiches for a picnic, fresh cheeses, and yummy spreads. They even have a wood burning fireplace outside to make fresh pizzas, yum!

Our favorite dining restaurant hands down was Artisan. Can you say, OMG! The food was beyond tasty. Everything we had was delish. We had an 8:15 PM reservation on Sunday and we were so hungry that we cancelled it and went straight to the restaurant at 5:00 PM. We were back to Old Orchard before the sun went down ~ fat and happy. Overall it was a wonderful and relaxing weekend. We met some new friends along the way and look forward to our return to sample some the places we didn't get to visit.

I was walking downtown Essex and stumbled upon this refreshing store. What I mean by refreshing is… it reminded me of something you would see in LA or New York. Essex never had a lot of home accessory or interior design boutiques but if it did, it was full of chachkies, a Yiddish word for what I call, dust collectors. Peacock & Beale is the perfect combination of old and new, very eclectic and well merchandised. After doing more research (I thought I would make a good PI), I discovered the owner, Connie Beale was an interior designer, who began her career in Houston working for Bill Francis & Associates and later moved to Greenwich, CT where she started her own firm Connie Beale. She has been featured in many publications such as Veranda, House Beautiful, Architectural Digest, Interior Design, etc. She has since expanded her business and it looks like she brought amazing her talent to Essex, lucky us. Her store is so beautiful, it reminded me of a lovely, comfortable and well lived in home. All it needed was a sofa and I would have curled up with a good book and never left. Take a look for yourself.

I have a thing for tall ceramic or porcelain lamps. I was drooling over this lamp. Unfortunately, I was so busy taking pictures of the store, I forgot to ask how much it was.

All kinds of vintage finds sprinkled with lovely new pieces. Make sure you stop in and look around. Essex is a wonderful day trip if you live in New England. Lots to see and do. This is a definite don’t miss for anyone that loves design.

The Cheese Shop of Centerbrook ~ Only in Connecticut

While sitting around my parents table eating homemade polenta, my mom tipped me off to a new cheese shop that opened in Centerbook, CT. Apparently, my Uncle Peter frequents it daily, and told her about it. Cheese shop in Centerbrook? WHAT?????????????? Why didn’t I know about this before I got to the house? I just picked up at bottle of wine at the wine shop in Centerbrook. As everyone knows, I love cheese, especially paired with wine.

Friday morning, I decided to head to Essex to take some pictures for all of you. I was heading through Centerbrook (completely in my own little world), and caught The Cheese Shop of Centerbrook sign out of the corner of my eye. I came a screeching halt, did a u-ey (slang for u-turn in New England) and pulled into the parking lot. It was like walking into Cheese Heaven, if there was one. Lot’s of yummy cheeses, everything you can imagine. I met Paul, the owner and his lovely wife. We started chatting and I told him I was home visiting and my mom told me about the shop and I wanted to pop in. I asked him how he selected Centerbrook (we just don’t have things like this where I am from) and he said he lived in the area and had done this for a living and wanted to open something for the locals. He got his start years ago, working for a cheese company in Greenwich, CT. Over they years he helped over 30 cheese stores open their business including the The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills. Boy, did Paul know his cheeses.

Look at all the yummy cheeses he carries! He has one of the largest collections of cheeses in the state of Connecticut. No matter what you fancy…he or his team will help you select something that suites your taste He carries cheese from France, Italy, Spain, Australia, Denmark, England, Switzerland, Sweden, Argentina, Canada, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Norway, and the United States. He also carries prosciutto, smoke salmon, and various cured meats. He’s so gracious that he will open any cheese for you to try. I didn’t want him to open anything for me but he insisted started opened several that interested me, what customer service. They also provide you with a Product List Sheet of the current cheeses and meats they carry. They will check off the cheeses you purchase so you can keep track of what you have had. He carries some of my favorites like the La Tur, from Italy, Epoisses from France, and the Mt. Tam from The Cowgirl Creamery.

Fresh pastas, sauces, olive oils for dipping and cooking, and fine balsamic vinegars makes this a great destination spot. Paul covers all the bases. He carries blocks of gourmet chocolate and all the fixings. Now I just want him to add wine. Hint Hint Paul :)

I picked up a soft cheese which he recommended and Beemster Aged Gouda that was to die for (so good I went back the next day for more), some dried apricots, a fresh baguette and some table crackers. I knew it went over well because Nicole’s husband, Jeff, ate it like it was his last supper. Presto magic, now you see it now you don’t. Love you Jeff!

Fresh baked bread made daily. The perfect place to pick up a baguette, some cheese, and spreads for a picnic down at the docks in Essex.

Here’s Paul and his team (see below). The guy on the far left made me a yummy latte but only if I smiled. Of course, I smiled. It makes me happy knowing they also make latte’s and cappuccino’s. I know longer have to drive to Old Saybrook to get a good cup of Joe. Sorry folks, I outgrew Duncan Donuts.

Make sure if your visiting the shoreline of Connecticut that you pop in and tell them that Peggy & Fritz sent you. The staff is friendly and welcomes you like an old friend. The perfect place to pick up goodies for a dinner party, hostess gift, or a special treat for yourself. I was so impressed with Paul and his team, it will be my first stop (after the vino) when I come for a visit.

Tour of the Town ~ Shoreline of Connecticut

One of the things I miss the most about New England, is the architecture of the homes. It’s no wonder that among the contemporary and Spanish style homes in LA that I gravitated towards an old beach cottage (from 1909). I know it’s not old by New England standards, where it’s common to see a home dating back to the 1600’s, 1700’s and 1800’s but, for the record….it’s OLD by California standards. I do miss the character, crooked wood floors, ceilings, shutters, front porches, and beautiful moldings of New England homes. I went to a few open houses to see what I could get for $500,000 vs. Manhattan Beach. May I say, I was green with envy. Enjoy the lovely tour of Chester, Essex, Old Saybrook, and Old Lyme.

See below the lovely architecture and how lovely spring time is in Connecticut. The house below is one of my all time favorite homes in Essex. It sits at the end of a road and borders on a cove of the Connecticut River.

OMG! I’m dying over this house! Why didn’t I ever notice it before. I already have myself moved in and the house decorated.

This house sits on the Connecticut River in Old Lyme. To the left of the house is the river and also a helicopter pad. I remember in high school when my old boyfriend worked at the marina across the river we would watch the helicopter take off and land. We were always like, I wonder who lives in that house, they must be really rich. LOL!

I just picture drinking my morning coffee on this porch or unwinding after a long day with a glass of wine on a pair of rocking chairs.

I was driving taking this picture. This the Goodspeed Opera House and unfortunately, my camera doesn’t do this building justice. Sitting on the edge of the Connecticut River (directly behind it), this spectacular building is home to the original productions of Manof La Mancha, Shenandoah, and Annie and the recipient of two Tony Awards. The Goodspeed Opera House works in conjunction with the The Norma Terris Theatre (located in non other than Chester, CT) to develop new musicals and emerging artists. It’s also a test location for many shows that go on to Broadway. All the more reason why you need to visit.

Down at the docks in Essex Center, where the ducks and swans are spoiled by tourists feeding them bread. This swan was coping an attitude when he found out I didn’t have any bread. Sue, remember when you got attacked by swans? LOL!

I started to notice everyone’s doors were all decorated. Now I wish I got more pics.

The only daffodils I see in LA is at Trader Joes. There is nothing that reminds me of springtime more than daffodils, tulips, lilacs, and forsythia. For you New Englanders, you will laugh. We pay $15.99 at Whole Foods for three stems of Lilacs(that grow everywhere in CT) and $15.00 to $20.00 for forsythia, which, some consider a weed. The first time I saw the price I said, “Are you kidding me? For Real?” See below my Aunts lovely garden. I love how the daffodils randomly popped up between the rocks and border her garden, etc. You can see the first sprouts of carrots popping up in her garden. Makes me miss Peggy & Fritz. How else would I know those are carrots sprouting?

Ok, I went a little overboard on the pictures but when you move away, it reminds you of all the things you loved and you took for granted. For all of you New Englanders….I’m so jealous that you get to relish in the splendor of springtime, I’m green with envy. However, I am pleasantly reminded during the winter months while wearing flip flops and your shoveling snow, why I live in Southern California. Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Small Town Designers with a Big City Designs

Who knew we had so much talent bottled up in one little town. I met Ann Lightfoot while chatting the girls from Frock (yesterday's post). They told me I really should go down and check out her jewelry. I so was smitten with the two chunky necklaces she was wearing, I had to see for myself. Her jewelry was being displayed at the Lori Warner Studio/Gallery which is host to a number artists and designers featuring jewelry, handbags, textiles, and art. “Ann Lightfoot's simple yet elegant jewelry designs are inspired by the natural materials she works with. "The color, cut and shape of a stone dictates each design," says Ann, who creates each of her unique pieces by hand, using precious and semi-precious stones and the finest linen, silk or sterling silver.

Ann's jewelry also reflects her interest in other cultures. After graduating from Harvard College, where she earned a degree in History and Literature, Ann ran a teaching program in Bangkok, Thailand. She has also worked with Cambodian refugees in Thailand, for a non-profit organization in Paris and for a French cosmetics company in New York. Ann's first jewelry designs were created out of jade medallions and vintage glass stones found in a Shanghai antique market, and she continues to use fine Asian, South American and African beads and pendants in her designs.”

Her work has been featured and exhibited at museums and art galleries and as well as major publications such as Lucky Magazine and Bon Appétit. You can see below some samples of her designs. She has everything from dainty and simple to chunky and exotic. They’re simple stunning and have a very organic quality to them. You feel like you are wearing a piece of the earth. No further explanation is needed by me, her pieces speak for themselves.

To top it all off, while I was in viewing Ann’s pieces, I saw this tall brunette who looked familiar. I haven’t been home in so long (keep in mind everyone knows everyone where I grew up) that I was blanking out on her name. I took a gamble and said, “Jackie?” She said, “Yes.” I said, “It’s Ann Shumbo.” We had an OMG, I haven’t seen you in years moment and then a chuckle. We both went to high school together, were cheerleaders, and haven’t seen each other since college. Come to find out Jackie was living in Maui for a number of years and started making handbags (see below) and had made her way back to the East Coast after meeting her hubby. Little did I know, her bags have been featured in many small boutiques including Fred Segal. A major score for a designer. How cute are these bags? FROCK TO THIS STORE

The first store on my New England tour is Frock. A place, I know my readers will love. It is small clothing boutique shared by Trish Ginter and Laura William-Larson. Two amazing independent designers who have a love for fashion. Trish left the Big Apple and Laura left San Francisco for the small town charm of Chester, CT. However, they did not give up their fashion sense or big city ways. They brought a little hip and cool into a much needed area. They have created quite a following with the locals and make everything “in house”. Both have their own blogs Whosiepie by Laura and MerGirl by Trisha which, are a must read for those that love fashion, creativity, and up-cycling (a term they use where they take materials, recycle and repurpose them to create an upscale garment). I encourage you to check them out. The store is tiny but has a mighty presence. When you first step in, you feel like you’re in a showroom at the mart, viewing samples for buyers for hip trendy LA boutiques. Step to the right and you are instantly transported to a cutting room where the designers create their magic. Spools of thread decorate the windows, sewing machines are off to one side, a large cutting table sits in the middle of the room with lots of fabric samples strewn below. If you see something you like, but maybe the color or fabric is not quite what your looking for or you need another size, just peek below the cutting table and the girls will help you find something that will work for you and like magic make you a new one.

I witnessed this myself when a neighboring boutique designer (being featured tomorrow) walked in as I was shopping. I couldn’t help but over hear her talking about the blouse (made by the Frock girls) she was wearing and how much she liked it. It looked like a modern day top, paired with two necklaces from her own jewelry line, which was on display two doors down. The girls suggested, I pop in and see her trunk show. As I was browsing, she was trying on a jacket, which was mixed with denim and another fabric on top, the shape was fitted and tied at the waist. Well, it screamed my style. We all started talking and I found out, she buys pieces from them all the time. She was very sweet and said since you live in LA, try it on and if you like it, go ahead and take it because they can make me another one. I couldn’t do that. Therefore, I just tried it on for size and Trish said she could do something similar and showed me some fabric pairings (she likes to mix fabrics). I told her I’m a simple girl and she pulled out some creme fabric and it was just perfect. How’s that for custom work? They make everything from grocery bags, yoga bags to tops and dresses. They do it all. If you can’t get to Chester, not to fret, they have found a way to reach the masses. You can find their designs on www.frockshoppe.com and Smashing Darling, a website that was co-created by Laura, for independent fashion designers, as a way to feature their designs across the U.S.

I picture someone with tousled hair in a wide brimmed straw hat paired with simple flat sandals wearing this knit stretch crochet lace dress or for anyone attending Megan’s (beachbungalow8) hubby’s Walk With Sally's White Light Event, you can kick it up a notch and pair it with some strappy high heels.

This sweater just feels so cozy. Perfect for those Connecticut winters.

She recycled two wool sweaters to create this skirt. Isn’t this genius? I picture this with a cool pair of Frye boots and a simple cashmere top. Reminds me of something my friend Quinn would wear.

This is the jacket I was telling you about. The cut worked perfect for me. I like things fitted. Can’t wait to see the one she is making me in all creme/ivory.

They had told me about the one they did over the holidays in all creme with the frayed edges and of course, I found a photo in their portfolio. Mine will be similar to this. Perfect for LA. Throw it on with a pair of jeans, some chunky jewelry a pair of heels and your off, looking cute as can be.

My favorite type of neckline (see below). This style is always flattering on everyone.

This reminded me of a Pucci Dress. Fun, whimsical, but I could see it paired with high heel boots or a pair of great strappy sandals. I love the cowl neckline.

Chester, Connecticut We Know Where it Is!

I was in New York over a week ago for business and had a client meeting in Connecticut. I decided to make my way to my parents house for the weekend. I had not been home in 15 years during the spring or summer (I usually go at the holidays). I cannot tell you how magnificent it was to see spring. It made my heart skip a beat, made my pulse race, and left me breathless. How I missed my little town.

Growing up in a small town (population 5000), I couldn’t wait to get out dodge as soon as graduated from high school. I remember going to college and people would ask where I am from. I would say Chester, CT. They would say, “Cheshire?” The standard reply would be, “No, Chester, CT. It’s near Old Saybrook, down near near Deep River and Essex where the Connecticut River meets the Long Island Sound. Sounds crazy, but it was the only way people understood where little Chester was located. It became such a joke that my roommates in college made fun of me. I wish I could dig out the picture of my roommate Kallie visiting CT when she saw the Chester sign. It was like a scene from Miracle on 34th Street, where the little girl yells, “Stop the Car! Stop the Car!” I have a picture of my roommates under the Chester sign squatting down and pointing up to the sign, laughing of course. At one point, the town had a bumper sticker made that said, “Chester, CT…We Know Where it is!”

Like anything as you grow older, you always find your way back home. As a child, most of the stores catered to the townies as I called them. We had Robbie’s the local ice cream shop slash five and dime store and a tiny little market. Now, it’s home to many art galleries and talented jewelry designers as well as quaint boutiques. Our area was always known for artists but it’s nice to see the town building a community around it. Chester is becoming quite the culinary scene with River Tavern, owned by Jonathan Rapp, a fellow classmate of mine. He is also the creator of Dinners at the Farm, similar to Outstanding in the Field. All dinners are done at local farms in the surrounding areas, using seasonal and local ingredients, farm style. You can find the 2012 schedule at Dinners at the Farm.

See photos below of the center of town. I use to joke with my friends, blink and you’ve driven through it. For years our first grade teacher lived in this house, Mrs. Powell, I believe. I always loved it. Wonder who lives here now?

Restaurant L & E is a charming French bistro / wine bar. Was serving one of my favorite Champagnes by the class. The bar is charming. A great place for a date. Local galleries

The Pattaconk is a local bar and restaurant. When I was in 10th grade, I worked here periodically for extra money. I spilled a glass of red wine on some guys pants in a not so nice spot. I will never forget it. Thank God he laughed.

Spring has sprung. Ah, how I miss daffodils. All the fields and yards were plentiful. I always loved how they randomly came up between rocks, along the streets, and in fields, etc. They always make me smile.

The street Peggy & Fritz lived on. My mom grew up here. They were one of the first people to build a house on this street. It was originally a large meadow and they lined the entire street with Dogwood Trees so the springs was spectacular. Sadly, whoever, had purchased the house has not taken care of the yard and it couldn’t be photographed. Thank God for my memories. I have many.

Near the center of town there is a beautiful pond that has this small waterfall that trickles into a running brook.

First, let me say, I’m laughing so hard because my mother is not going to be happy with me for posting this! While visiting home last weekend, my mom who recently turned 70, (she’s still a spring chicken) had planned on taking me tag saling (slang for tag sales), Saturday morning. We had set out early, with anticipation of what good bargains we would find. Tag sales are just not the same in LA. We got to our first multi-family sale, which was situated at the top a hill and began poking around. I turned my head to call my mom’s attention, when unexpectedly, I see her at the bottom of the hill being helped up by two men. Come to find out, she was walking back to the car (down the hill) to grab her coat and slide on patch of mud causing her to loose her balance. She had fallen backwards into the mud. It was that moment of “OMG! Is she ok?”, followed by laughter. She was covered in mud, head to toe.

Well! That put a screeching halt on our morning tag sales. The owner of the house, graciously gave us a blanket for the car so we could cover the seat. We headed home so she could take a quick shower and change clothes. I did manage to capture this picture when she got out of the car, right before she went in the house. Unfortunately, most of the mud had come off on the blanket but, you get the idea. We were joking later about all the mud and I was like, “Dam! I wish I got a shot of the two guys picking you up!” We started laughing again, saying I wouldn’t have looked like a very sympathetic daughter.

As I was sitting here, I was like what could a sweet daughter, like me, do to honor my mom, for Mother’s Day? I was in the process of putting together my blog posts of my visit and ran across this picture. I started laughing so hard and thought this is a perfect. So perfect, that she will likely kill me! You have to know my mom, she was always full of surprises when we were kids, especially in high school. My best friend, Sue and I would celebrate our birthday’s (we were a day a part) by having lunch at Oliver’s Tavern. My mom would always embarrass us by making an appearance with her friend Barbara (at the end of our lunch) and sing happy birthday (she can’t carry a tune) while holding a cake or if she wasn’t present..she would make sure a cake was left at the restaurant and have the entire wait staff surprise us by singing. Each year when we thought we were safe, a cake and someone singing magically appeared. I know my mom loves surprises, and it’s payback time. Right back at you mom!

Now some daughter mother advice….Remember to watch where your walking and always look down! Happy Mother Day Marie Baby!

Yes, I’m Back “ON A ROLL”

Well I’m back…took a little hiatus. After emailing back and forth with a fellow blogger and sharing our stories of what’s appropriate and what’s not in the blogging world and how sometimes we just want to put it out there but due to crazy people, nosy people, or people who should simply mind their own bee’z wax…you can’t. Ah! The dilemma with blogging. Out of respect for her privacy, she knows who she is…I just want to say thanks for lighting a fire under my arse :) Also, I work off a MAC but use the Windows side (I have a dual computer) for blogging because I can use live writer and I was running out of disk space. I need to find a program like Live Writer for the MAC. Does anyone have any solutions?

Back to blogging…I was reading my April issue of C Magazine. For those of you who have not read it, it’s a new magazine covering all of California. I love the magazine. I first learned about the magazine from Brooke at Velvet and Linen. Of course, I’m magazine obsessed and couldn’t believe I had not heard of this publication. Of course, I had to check it out. One peep and I was hooked, subscription and all.

There was a fabulous article (I feel like Kimora Lee Simons from Baby Phat because I always say fabulous LOL) on Alix Soubiran. She is the amazing and talented artist behind the wallpaper designs (see below) for Princesandcrows.com. She was trained as a muralist in Paris and began her career in Interior Design for various celebrities and high profile clients in Palm Beach, Europe, and the West Indies. She went into wallpaper design because she said she had something to say that could not be said through murals. I found the creative process very interesting. She would paint a prototype and her husband would apply her art work and colors via the computer to Pantone (the king of colors) and then the designs would be printed on various sources of material such as paper, metallic, and vinyl.

When I first saw some of her designs, they reminded me of something you would see in Morocco. I thought how amazing these designs would also look on tile. HMMM! Maybe Ms. Alix needs to think of creating a line of tile. Check out her designs on line and see why I was so inspired when I saw them in a room.

A Little Twist on Southern Traditional

I have been sick for the last week. Between the tissues, Nyquil, Advil sinus pills and coughing, sniffling, and sore throat, I have gone into hibernation. It’s very rare, even when I’m sick to stay away from email, even for work but this has knocked me on my behind. Today was the first day, I had the energy to pick up something to read. I came across this article in Southern Living on designer Angie Hranowsky and a house she did in Charleston – I found it refreshing. Southern interiors are not unusually my personal style. I can appreciate them for the high quality furniture, textiles, etc., but it is usually a little more stiff for my personal taste. What stood out for me in Angie’s design for a couple in Charleston is her traditional style with a little twist.

There is nothing like a porch. I don’t understand people who have them and never sit on them. I drink my coffee on mine, read books, or just want to enjoy the silence of the morning. I love Southern porches especially this one with it’s high ceiling and oversized shutters with pillars. Looks heavenly. I could imagine growing old here.

The living room below says classy and timeless with it’s formal look lightened up with interesting art which tied into the colors of the traditional carpet. I love the quiet elegance of this room. Formal without being over the top.

This was exciting for me to see a traditional table that you would normally see with matching chairs paired with Chinese Chippendale bamboo styled chairs. Great use of color on the walls paired with abstract art breaks up the room that could normally feel stale.

An unexpected embroidered suzani found on eBay adds art, texture, and a pop of color to the bed.

Well it’s time for a dose of Nyquil. Hope you all have a great night.

Anthropologie & Weddings

Everyone is jumping on the wedding bandwagon. J Crew has opened a new wedding flagship store in New York and now Anthropologie is launching their new BHLDN collection of wedding dresses, gowns, shoes, and jewelry. In true Anthropologie style, the photos are beautifully done and look very elegant. Unfortunately, the styles don’t fit my body style. I’m more a Carolyn Bissette Kennedy dress girl. I was just surprised at the price points. Take a look for yourself at some of the dresses they are offering. What’s your take? I feel like everyone is copying J Crew, the best form of flattery I guess.

Valentines Day is for Everyone

Valentines Day for me always feels forced unless you are a bit creative. Most people race out to a get card, guys order flowers and then your off to dinner..don’t get me wrong, I love all those things including lovely gifts….I’m really a simple girl. For me gift giving is really thinking about your gift or doing something creative. It’s not about the amount of the gift or how luxurious it is, it’s more about the thought or intention behind it. My all time favorite Valentines Day both giving and receiving was one of creativity, thought and attention to detail on both sides. It’s one that’s hard to top. I encourage all of you to go out on a limb and do something creative. Instead of having flowers delivered…leave a single rose on your loved ones car and wish them a beautiful day, write a beautiful letter to your loved one and tell them all the things you love about them, for those of you that live in LA…head to the beach at sunset with a blanket, bottle of wine, and some snacks and enjoy the lovely winter sunset, etc.

Whether you are single, in a relationship, married or divorced. I believe Valentines Day is for everyone. Creativity can be for the singles as well…grab your girlfriends and a bottle of Champagne, chocolates and watch your favorite movie. If your home by yourself, light a beautiful scented candle, take a bubble bath, get into a cozy robe and repeat above (champagne and chocolates). Whatever, your plans I hope you have a fabulous Valentines Day!

Vargas Girls

When I think of pin-up girls, the first name that comes to mind is Vargas. I loved Alberto Vargas’s work from the moment I laid eyes on an original lithograph. A number of years ago, I dated a guy who had one hanging in his apartment. I inquired about it and he shared with me it was an original lithograph by Alberto Vargas. His mom had about 10-15 original lithographs that she had acquired from a gentleman in Northern California. Original works of Vargas, especially the lithographs, sell for upwards of $5000.00 plus at auction and his paintings for much more. To see an original in person, simply takes your breathe away. The level of detail is incredible.

Alberto Vargas was born in Peru and moved to the United States after studying in Europe prior to World War I. He did poster work and pictures for the Ziegfeld Follies early on in his career and became famous during the 40’s when Esquire Magazine hired him to do pin-up girls for the magazine. He also created a number of calendars during that time under the name Varga Calendars at the request of Esquire. Later, he had a falling out with Esquire and they would not let him use the name Varga. After struggling for several years, he worked for the studios and painted many famous women, which included Marilyn Monroe, Ava Gardner, and Jane Russell. He was later hired by Hugh Hefner at Playboy creating images for the magazine. He continued to work at the magazine for the next twenty years using his name Vargas and his work was known as the Vargas Girls. His work is highly collected by many. See for yourself why I adore his work.

His work was typically a combination of watercolor and air brushing. As opposed to other pin-up artists of his time, he was known for making women’s legs thinner and giving them more cleavage. Some of his works are subtle while others display women partially nude. However, they are always tasteful. Here are some samples of postcards below of some of the pin-up girls he produced. I am thinking of buying some from EBay to put in my bathroom in a grouping.

This is a sample of the original lithograph my ex had framed. At the time, things did not end well and I thought about telling him the house got robbed and keeping it for myself. We’re friends now but it was a fun thought at the time. LOL!

Here’s a few samples of old calendar pages. People are now taking them apart and selling them individually, similar to book plates. You can find these at the flea market (there is a vendor at the Long Beach flea market that has a ton of these) or EBay is a good resource.

Here are samples of other images he did during the 40’s. His images were popular with the service men.

He is known for painting some of the worlds most famous faces over the years. In his early years, some of the most notable women according to Wikipedia included: Olive Thomas, Billie Burke, and Nita Naldi. Here’s a few of the women below that were listed by Wikipedia. It was fun seeing some of the faces behind the images that he created. The one below is the most common picture, poster, image, etc. you will see. It was interesting for me to see her image and how Vargas portrayed her on paper. Olive Thomas was a silent film actress and socialite. She later became a Ziegfeld girl and flapper. She almost looks like a painted doll. Women just looked so much more glamorous back then.

Little did I know that Billie Burke who played Glinda “the Good Witch of the North” from the Wizard of Oz. was also one of his models. I couldn’t find any of pictures of her painted by Vargas. I am dying to know what she looks like as a Vargas Girl.

Ruth Ettings was a singer and actress that later went on to Broadway and made her debut in Ziegfeld Follies. Here she is pictured below and then below that is one of the Ziegfeld Follies' girls. They believe this image to be her when she was on Broadway. I had a clear picture of it but then it wasn’t working and the only image I can find it hazy. For a clear photo go to Ruth Etting's website and scroll down.

You can see the differences in his work from the early 20’s through the 40’s and 50’s. However, his images remain a collectors item for many and he today he is considered one of the most famous pin-up girl artists of the 20th Century.

Wonderful Weather

As you know, I am behind on reading blog posts and won’t be caught up for another week. I wanted to do a quick shout out to Rebecca at Acanthus & Acorn for including me in her stylish blog awards. I feel grateful to be in her list, which includes some fabulous bloggers and wanted to say thank you. Make sure you visit her blog which covers food, entertaining, lifestyle, design, etc. I just found out that her husband’s parents were named Peggy & Fritz. Isn’t that crazy? On to my blog post! As most of you may or may not know we have been having the most incredible weather here in Los Angeles. At the beach, it’s been in the 70’s. We’re finally having the summer we didn’t have. All this warm weather has me feeling like spring cleaning (I know it’s only January) and sprucing up the house. This weather has got me thinking beachy, white, fresh, clean, etc. A little inspiration to get the creative juices flowing.

Scented Glossy is Back, YEAH!!!!

I know, I know, I know, I’m behind. I've had some personal things to attend to but hopefully, I will be able to catch up on some of my posts this week. In the meantime, if you love good, intellectual programming, like the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (name your poison) and have never read Scented Glossy Magazines, it’s a must read blog. SGM does the BEST recaps of the Housewives, Flipping out, Bachelor, etc. I was originally introduced to her by Megan over at Beach Bungalow 8 a year or two ago, and became a blog obsessed reader. I would read her posts right after every show and savor every description and written word. She was beyond hysterical in her recaps.

Then in August of 2010, SGM decided to call it quits. All the trashy t.v. addicts, that would be me, were devastated. I felt like my best friend disappeared. It was like the Monday morning water cooler conversation going bye bye!!! A few weeks ago, I was sitting at my computer and spotted an email in my inbox from Scented Glossy and found myself going…“No, it can’t be?” Of course, I immediately click on the link and there she was with a brand new post. I almost fell off my chair, I was so excited. I was doing the Jiggy dance.

My New Hermes Bag

Hah! I bet I caught your attention. No, I didn’t get a real Hermes Birkin Bag. Are you kidding me? I’m living on rice and beans right now. The closest I will ever get to sporting a Birkin Bag, is if I hit lotto. In the meantime, I’m wait listed for the HOT new “it bag” made of canvas from Thufri in tan. Stocking your Powder Room for Guests

I love powder rooms for the simple reason, they are compact and you can be a little more creative with them. However, today’s post is not about design but about the key things I believe every powder room should contain when you host a dinner party, or simply have company over. This is where my friends will roll their eyes at me. You would be surprised how many of these things are actually missing from peoples bathrooms. Here are some of Peggy & Fritz’s tips on how to make your guests feel comfortable in your bathroom, powder room, bano, toilet, etc.

My ideal powder room.

1. Use paper napkins vs. a hand towel for your guests. Most people prefer to use a paper napkin to dry their hands vs. using the same hand towel that some one else has used to dry their hands. Believe it or not, I have had people still wipe their hands on a decorative hand towel when guest towels were provided, that bugs by the way (pet peeve). I use long napkins and keep them on a white ceramic dish purchased at Cost Plus, it’s meant for serving, but I love it for holding napkins (it looks clean and elegant). You can use all kinds of items for holding napkins (I don’t like those store bought ones except below) such as a silver tray from the flea market, porcelain dishes, pottery, etc. I change the napkins based on holidays, time of year, etc. You can find them at Home Goods, Target, Amazon has a great selection, and Horchow has some that you can have monogrammed, etc.

2. Always leave a garbage can out. Even if you keep your waste basket under your sink, please take it out when you have guests. Also, for those that do not have one in their bathroom, if for no other reason then my next sentence, kindly purchase a waste basket. There is nothing worse than it being that “time of the month” and needing to throw away your “goods” and you look and there is no basket. I’m like, are you kidding me? I know, likely not what you thought I would say, but I’m just stating the facts. I’ve actually been places where there was no waste basket. I had to stuff “the goods” in my pocket and march directly to the kitchen to find a trash can so I could throw out “the unmentionables”. Now, what if I was wearing a cocktail dress? Can you imagine the horror? Please don’t subject your guests to this! I know a little more visual than you needed. How else can I get the point across? If you usually put it under the sink, it is helpful during a party to pull it out and place it by the toilet or if you don’t keep one in there at all, if for no other reason than the one above, you need to purchase one.

3. Keep an extra roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. I keep a small wicker basket right next to the toilet (with a lid that flips up). It’s visible to guests should they run out of toilet paper. They won’t feel funny opening it up because it’s a logical choice for them to look and the best part is, they don’t have to get up. They simply reach to the left or the right.

4. Always have room spray. Let’s face it, sometimes you have to poop. Nothing is worse then looking around and seeing no room spray. You don’t want to be the one that poops and leaves the bathroom. Your then cringing in fear that someone will step into the bathroom right after you and your thinking, “Please don’t go in there!” Then without words your subjected to “the oh….., she just pooped look”. Save us the embarrassment please. I have a tiny electric socket right near my toilet with a ledge where I keep a small can visible. If you have a basket next to the toilet, you can store it where the toilet paper is or leave it down on the floor behind the basket, but still visible. Sorry after Dr. Oz was on Oprah, poop conversations make me laugh and I don’t even have kids.

5. Provide liquid soap in a pump. Only use a bar of soap for yourself or as a decorative item. When you have multiple guests, it’s best to provide a pump of soap as it’s more sanitary. No one wants to be using the same bar of soap as everyone else. Reserve that for your family and switch it out for guests.

6. Adding little touches. I usually have a nice scented candle or tea light burning in a votive holder and a fresh flower or mixed greens in a bud vase. Just these little things add a nice touch and make guests feel special.

Now as a guest in someone’s home, I think it’s important to exercise the following: 1. It is considered polite after you wash your hands to wipe down the faucet and counter. Some people wash their hands and you would think a bird had just been in their flickering around in a birdbath. There’s water everywhere. It’s sprinkled on the mirror, on the counter and there are water spots all over the faucet (another pet peeve, water spots make me crazy). When I say crazy, I mean crazy. I’m not known as the Windex Queen for a reason. Just so you know, you are not in a hotel, your in someone’s home. Kindly use your napkin and wipe off the common area and faucet. 2. Since it’s likely I don’t have any men reading my blog but if I do, please put down the toilet seat. For all the moms out there, please teach your son’s this! No one wants their company walking into a guest bathroom to the visual of a toilet seat up. While this happens rarely with my guests, there is always someone from time to time a guest that will do this. Ok, I’m done. I’d love to hear your tips of anything I haven’t included.

All Things French

Parlez-vous Francais? Oui Oui Mademoiselle, Et Merci Beaucoup. I had to get the correct spelling from my French speaking friend, Kirsten. When she speaks, it sounds so beautiful. I don’t understand a word of it. I can’t speak a lick of French. However, lately I’m obsessing over French country homes. While Italy is my passion and all things Italian, minus a few things which I will keep to myself..I found myself going stir crazy in the rain we’ve been having. For this reason, I’ve been watching marathons of House Hunters International. This past weekend there were two or three episodes of Europeans looking for a house in the South of France. I remember traveling to Paris and just falling in love with the textiles, dishes, etc. I can only imagine what the south of France looks like. Here are some images that have me swooning.

I could buy this vineyard for sale for 399,000 Euros. I can imagine sitting roadside sipping my coffee and chatting with folks passing by…or opening my windows overlooking the vineyards…or sipping wine on the back terrace. Ok time to wake up.

Imagine pulling up to your house with these beautiful flowers and how could you not love those blue shutters.

This is an actual cottage from My French Country Home. Simply darling. Imagine waking up to that everyday.

A house for rent. Can you imagine this as your home. I need to hit lotto.

While I’m out of my shabby chic phase, I do have to admire this quiet elegance with comfortable soft linen fabrics and beautiful cottons. I do like this for a rustic farm house. I would replace the white cabinets and armoires with something in a pale blue to add a hint of contrast.I can envision myself gardening and working in my vineyard and then curling up on the the white sofa reading a book sipping tea in the morning and champagne by night.

The photos above and below are where I would entertain my new friends. Lots of cured meats, champagne, red wine, a crunchy banquette with local cheeses. I can imagine interesting conversation and learning French with the locals.

This is how I would set the table for the holidays with all vintage glass pieces and dishes that I picked up at the local flea markets. Informal with a hint of elegance.

I love all the monogramming on these vintage linens. I would do all white bedding with monogrammed euro shams.

I can picture myself riding into town on my cute bicycle. Picture a fresh baguette and cured meats and cheeses in the basket on the way home here. All the things I need for my dinner party above. I’d pick some field flowers or fresh lavender roadside along the way for the table.

Indulge me. Officially, it’s a fantasy. We didn’t win lotto tonight, which means I have to go to work tomorrow. Ok, back to reality.
