I spoke of my three quince shrubs in Friday's post but only posted pictures of the two red quince. I thought today's post would spotlight a white quince. Once upon a time I didn't even know what a quince was let alone that they come in a variety of colors including white. Then one year while visiting the Nashville Lawn and Garden Show I found a vendor who had several pots of white flowering

Winter has hardly made an appearance here in my section of Tennessee and the blooms in the garden sure are putting on a great show with the unseasonably mild weather. I'm not complaining at all but hope the trees and shrubs don't break dormancy prematurely. If so there could be dire consequences for them. We are still experiencing the loss of large and mature trees due to the late freeze and

As it is so often happens here in Tiger Gardens I am surprised by what is blooming in the garden. No surprise is as grand as a five foot tall white camellia in full bloom as viewed in the woodland garden. What a shock it was for me to find this camellia blooming! Usually this white camellia (and the other spring blooming camellias here) will get zapped by a freeze. I expect at some point this

There is not much going on in Tiger Gardens other than the usual--life. I've been busy with one project or another and with work and preparing for spring. The pond is still giving us fits too but it will all work out in the end; I just know it will. So today's post is a short and sweet one. My original glass on glass mosaic has been a mighty popular post here at In the Garden so I'm following

You may recall my post this past Friday where I showed you my pond. That post also talked about a few problems with the pond that have since been rectified. Like all things you do for the first time you might not get them right and that was the case with the pond. My main problem was the edging and how to hide the pond liner. Initially I had built a mound on the edge of the pond over which I

Digging of the pond has been the easy part of building my new pond-and Cuddle Bunny-our resident Fertilizer bunny agrees! He is my constant helper in the garden while I have been working on the pond. I thought I'd share some pictures of the frontyard transformation and also document my pond building experience. Today's post in only on digging the pond and digging in the new broken concrete patio

We have had such a mild winter this year in Tennessee that you'd hardly know it was wintertime! Blooms in the garden in the winter is a very delightful thing for me because 2011 has not been a very good year yet the garden always makes me happy. I thought I'd share a few pretties with you all today and also wish you a very safe and wonderful welcome to the new year. First up is the first

Got mums? Boy do I have mums here in Tiger Gardens. The mums are not all that special but they make up for any shortcomings by being bright and prolific. I wonder if those two are connected somehow? Bright and prolific? Hmmmm. Five years ago I got a start of these beautiful yellow button mums (I don't know the botanical name) from a fellow master gardener on a master gardener garden tour and wow

Are you a plant collector? If so it is possible there are many plants on your list of must haves that you might not be able to find locally. I myself have this problem. It seems most of the usual suspects (viburnums, hydrangeas, evergreens, and spiraeas, etc) are mainly what I can find locally in any big box store. I rarely shop at local nurseries but when I do I find they rarely have anything

The Front Sidewalk Garden in my garden is uniquely positioned to be a showcase garden where I can grow everything and anything-with some restrictions. Anything I plant in this garden has to be: less than three feet tall, has to bloom a long time, and has to look good most of the year. One restriction I place on the garden is that it must have interest all year long. This garden gets enough sun

The summer garden is finally finished. Upper Middle Tennessee experienced a hard freeze this past week and any hopes of keeping warm season flowers and vegetables around for a bit longer were mostly dashed. Of course we all knew it was coming way before it hit. Geez, it's November already so I think the hard freeze was overdue. Prior to the hard freeze I had removed the very tall tomato plants

I thought I'd display some of the wonderful colors plants can offer us in our gardens-sans blooms. This fall has been splendid and as I wander my garden I try ever so hard to appreciate every small thing my eyes take in-and it is a lot here. Mr. Fix-it says our garden is 'cluttered'. Those are just about fighting words but because I love him I tend to overlook that opinion and  just head to the

Me neither until one spring Perennial Plant Society meeting. There was a whole bag of yellowroot free for the taking. Not knowing what yellowroot was I was a bit hesitant to grab a start but one of the members (Joanne) is very well informed about
