বর্তমান সময়ের আধুনিক বিজ্ঞানের খুব আলোচিত এবং গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটি শাখা হলো কোয়ান্টাম মেকানিক্স (Quantum Mechanics) বা কোয়ান্টাম বলবিদ্যা। কোয়ান্টাম বলবিদ্যা কারণ, প্রভাব, বাস্তবতা, অবস্থান, গতি ইত্যাদি সম্পর্কে আমাদের ধ্যান-ধারণাতে এক বিশেষায়িত পরিবর্তন এনেছে। আমাদের চারপাশের প্রাত্যহিক ঘটনাবলির ব্যাখ্যা পর্যন্তই দৌড় হলো চিরায়ত বলবিদ্যার (classical mechanics). আর কোয়ান্টাম বলবিদ্যার শাসন হলো অণু-পরমাণুর জগতে। যে জগতে প্রচলিত বলবিদ্যার ছড়ি ঘুরাবার কোনো জায়গা নেই, যেখানকার ঘটনাবলী ব্যাখ্যার জন্য প্রয়োজন বিজ্ঞানের এক নতুন শাখার; কোয়ান্টাম বলবিদ্যা হলো সে জগতের বিজ্ঞান।

বর্তমান সময়ের অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় ইলেকট্রনিক গ্যাজেট হলো ডিজিটাল ক্যামেরা, হোক সেটা কম্প্যাক্ট ডিজিটাল ক্যামেরা কিংবা ডিজিটাল এসএলআর। আধুনিক বিজ্ঞানের উৎকর্ষ, সবার হাতে হাতে শোভা পাওয়া এই যন্ত্রটি বানানো হয়েছে মানুষের চোখের গঠন এবং কার্যপ্রণালীর উপর ভিত্তি করে। তড়িৎচুম্বক বর্ণালির খুব ছোট এক অংশের কম্পাঙ্কের আলো দ্বারা আলোড়িত হয় আমাদের চোখ। অর্থাৎ এই নির্দিস্ট কম্পাঙ্কের বাইরের কোনো আলো আমরা দেখতে পাই না। আলো তথা ফোটন আমাদের চোখে পরলেই আমরা দেখতে পাই। বেশি ফোটন মানে বেশি আলো, তথা বেশি উজ্জলতা। ফোটনের পরিমাণ দ্বিগুণ হলে উজ্জলতা হয় দ্বিগুণ, ফটোগ্রাফির ভাষায় যাকে বলা হয় এক স্টপ (one stop) বেশি উজ্জল।

গণিত মানেই কি কেবল ভারী চশমা পরা গুরুগম্ভীর মানুষের জটিল হিসাব নিকাশের বিষয়? নাকি এর সাথে সম্পর্ক রয়েছে শিল্পকলারও? প্রথম বিবেচনায় মনে হতে পারে গণিত এবং শিল্পকলা দুইটা দুই মেরুর বিষয়। গণিতের কাজ হিসাব, যুক্তি আর প্রমাণ নিয়ে যেখানে শিল্পকলা হলো আবেগ, অনুভূতি, সৃজনশীলতা আর নান্দনিকতার বাহার। কিন্তু এই দুটো বিষয়ের মধ্যে বিদ্যমান সম্পর্ক আমাদের অনুমানের থেকেও গভীর। এই লেখাটিতে আমি চেষ্টা করব শিল্পকলার বিভিন্ন মাধ্যমে গণিতের ব্যবহারিক প্রয়োগ কিংবা পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন সৃষ্টিশীল মানুষের দ্বারা তাদের শৈল্পিক কর্মে গণিতের অভ্যন্তরীণ সৌন্দর্য ফুটিয়ে তোলার প্রয়াস সম্পর্কে আলোচনা করতে।

জ্ঞান হওয়ার পর থেকেই দেখছি, প্রতিবছরই দেখছি, বারবার দেখছি। ভবন ধসে, আগুনে পুড়ে গার্মেন্টস্ কর্মীর মৃতু্য। এতোদিনে তো এসব দেখে দেখে অভস্ত হয়ে যাওয়ার কথা। কিন্তু আমি দূর্বল চিত্তের মানুষ বলেই হয়তো এখনো এসব দেখে কেঁপে উঠি, ঘুমের ঘোরে দুঃস্বপ্ন দেখি। সবল চিত্তের মানুষেরা এগুলোকে system loss বলে তুড়ি মেরে উড়িয়ে দেবে, আর তারপর বলবে এদেশে garments শিল্পের ব্যপক সফলতার কথা, garments এর উপর এ দেশের অর্থনীতির ব্যপক নির্ভরতার কথা। আমরা অবাক হয়ে তাদের কথ শুনবো। আচ্ছা এ দেশে garments শিল্প এত বিস্তার লাভ করলো কেন? কেউ হয়তো বলবে এ দেশের স্বল্প শ্রম মুজুরি, স্বল্প উৎপাদন খরচের কথা। কিন্তু তাহলে চীন, ভারত, ভিয়েতনাম এসব দেশে কেন এ শিল্প এত বিস্তার লাভ করলো না। ঐসব 'স্বল্প' বিষয়—আশয় হয়তো কোন ব্যপার হতে পারে, কিন্তু মূল কারণ নয়। Garments এর কাপড়ের সুতা, wool ইত্যাদি fiber জাতীয় সূক্ষাতিসূক্ষ (যেগুলো কিনা চোখেও দেখা যায় না) জিনিসগুলো একজন মানুষের মুখ, নাক, কান দিয়ে শরীরের ভিতর প্রবেশ করে তার কার্যক্ষমতা ১৫-২০ বছর পর্যন্ত কমিয়ে দেয়, আর তারপর তার মৃতু্য আসে cancer বা অনান্য মরণব্যাধীর মধ্য দিয়ে। একারণেই হয়তো এ দেশে চল্লিশোর্ধ্ব garment কর্মী খুব বেশী দেখা যায় না। একজন সাদা চামড়রার অকাল মৃতু্য অনেক বেশী গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। আর তাই হয়তো এ দেশে ব্যঙের ছাতার মতো যত্রতত্র garment কারখানা গড়ে উঠেছে।

যারা বলে যে এখনকার তরুণ প্রজন্ম অলস facebook প্রজন্ম তাদেরকে আমি বলবো তারা যেন একবারের জন্য হলেও শাহবাগ চত্বরটা ঘুরে যায়। দাবি আদায়ের জন্য তাদের সেকি ভীষণ প্রত্য়য, অটল মনোভাব, সুদৃড় প্রতিজ্ঞা তা এখানে না আসলে কোনভাবেই অনুভব করা যাবে না। আজ বিশ্বের সকল সচেতন বাঙালি একই চেতনায় অনুপ্রাণিত হচ্ছে, একই দাবিতে অণুরণিত হচ্ছে। আমি মুক্তিযুদ্ধ দেখি নাই কিন্তু তারপরও আমি বলবো আজও বাঙালি সত্য প্রতিষ্ঠায়, অধিকার রক্ষায়, অবিচারের বিরুদ্ধে অটল অবিচল ঠিক তারা যেমনটি ছিল ৬৯/ ৫২ কিংবা ৭১ এ। দেশের প্রতি মানুষের অনুভূতি এখনও যে কতটা প্রখর তা বুঝা যায় এসব মানুষের দিন রাত প্রজন্ম চত্বরে বিরামহীন প্রতিবাদ দেখে। আবার বাঙালি যে এখনও কতটা শান্তিপ্রিয় জাতি তাও বুঝা যায় এই শান্তিপূর্ণ অবস্থান কর্মসূচি থেকে।

When talking about the distance of a moving object, we mean the spatial separation NOW, with the positions of both objects specified at the current time. In an expanding Universe this distance NOW is larger than the speed of light times the light travel time due to the increase of separations between objects as the Universe expands. This is not due to any change in the units of space and time, but just caused by things being farther apart now than they used to be.

Facebook announced the launch of its new curated App Center that'll let Facebook users find iOS or Android apps quickly and easily. The App Center will give users personalized recommendations and let them see apps their friends use. You can see a brief screencast of the App Center here.
