We are BACK... For real this time :)

Hello there,

We think that you have been waiting along time for the regeneration of Goldmyr. However, due to our old Collaborators taking on school or persuing other work, they do not have the time to continue with this project. (To which we thank them for sticking with us!)

The head-administrator of the DJ Friend has been given a heavy work load, (We also wish him luck with it!)
while he is still part of the team, and will still be taking part in the development of the website. He has appointed me as the new Head-Administrator until such a time as he can get back to work with us!

To help us in this reconstruction of the DJ Friend, we are looking for a new generation of Collaborators to post with us! A website by DJs, for DJs and about DJs! Help us continue to give you fresh content about producers and future events. WE NEED YOU!

While I may not have time to post all of the benefits of being a Collaborator here, you can email me at:
THIS EMAIL! I will send you the full details of benefits of being a poster for thedjfriend.com

Or you can leave your questions in the comments section and I will get around to either:
Replying to the comments OR
Making an entirely new post about the questions you may have. (If there is enough though :D)

Thank you, you really are the best fans me and Jack could ask for!
The world's biggest music magazine for electronic dance music, DJMag, has since 1997 allowed the audience to vote for their favorite DJ's. and that has been extremely important in the EDM scene. everyone who hopes to clear a space in the top 100, uses a lot of time on major marketing campaigns. And that there has been much discussion around the last two or three years - especially the point where the list is accused of being the most populer dj in the world.
But that's the way it is now, and you just have to accept that legends disappear from the list to make room for more "appropriate time" artists, even if they are not necessarily better DJs because of it. This year we have already received several shocks, like James Zabiela, Sven Väth, BT, Roger Sanchez, Hernan Cattaneo, Judge Jules, Fatboy Slim and Joris Voorn have all fallen out of the top.

Novation Zero SL MKII

The Novation Zero SL MKII Boasts a sleek style whilst keeping in with the modern compact style of MIDI Controllers , Making it perfects for gigging , Or other live performances.

Although This nifty little controller does not look like much , It has great potential , With the ability to be mapped out onto countless audio emitting programs such as Reason , Fl Studio and Traktor. It may not look like it but the Zero SL MKII is actually a brilliant DJ controller , Featuring the famous Crossfader and boasting over 50 Buttons Just asking you to be mapped out to your favourite effect or modulation , Also included are another 25 Faders in the form of sliders and knobs ,This is perfect for the DJ who are interested in the controllers aspect of the DJ art.

In amongst this fantastic controller , Novation have Placed eight small drum-pads, Although they are not exactly the best drum-pads I have ever used , they still do the job relatively well , But don't be expecting to go all Jackie Chan on them though.

This controller comes along with Novations , State of the art Auto-map Software Giving you the ability to map your controller to most of the top of the line music production software such as Logik , Reason and Ableton Live.

Also featured on the back of this product are several inputs and outputs , Featured are 4 MIDI ports , A MIDI port 2 out , and 3 MIDI port 1 sockets , Thru , Out and In.
This controller can also be hooked up to a control pedal and an expression pedal , and this controller has the ability to be powered by 100% BUS Power , meaning that all you really need to get up and running is a USB cable , But you are also givin the option to power it by 9V DC Power.

That's pretty much it , This controller caught my eye a while back and Since then I am still using it to it's full potential , never getting bored.

Hello EDM lovers! Today i am gonna talk about a phenomenon that is on the increase: the re-making of electronic dance music tracks entirely by human voice.

"What the fuck?"

I am sure this is the first thing you've thought by reading this.

How is possible to make all the different instruments which appeared in an Electronic song only using the human voice?

So, there is a way for making music, called "A Capella" that comes from the old Renaissance, in the far 1400, that is performed without any kind of musical instruments, only by using the various shades of the human voice. This way was originally used, and it is still used, for religious music. In particular it's popular in church's choirs.
Have you never listened to a Gospel choir? This is an example!

But, you can say, electronic music has too many instruments and some of them are impossible to be performed by human voice. FALSE!
Some people can control its own voice in an impressive way.

And with the new softwares, they can record "voice instrument" by "voice instrument" and then assemble all the sounds for creating a song.
But now i am sure you just want an example so.. i will put a lot of them!

This is one of the most impressive. This guy is quite famous on YouTube for his A Capella covers:

These are some songs performed a capella i collected for you:

He makes mostly russ tracks. He is also known as Hockenheim and dj Broiler.

Russ is a norwegian celebration. Where students who finish high school call themselves Russ, and this marks a celebration. A selection of completed students are many places in the world, but the Norwegian celebrations are highly distinctive.
In recent years it has become more and more common to acquire Russ tunes in either Russ or evan russebuss. Russ buses have a "cover-name" that is released prior to the "concept" is coming.
It is common to drop the alias already 10/11 months before graduation time really starts. Competition for the russe track, which will be "Song of the Year", has also been great.
Some pay many thousands of dollars for people to create song for them. Some pay up to 40,000 dollars to get her own russ track.

Popular russ Track-makers:

To go straight to the point you will in his first album get you a few surprises when otherwise slow songs suddenly slams to a hard drop, like Stache. Said song is perhaps one of the coolest and most playful songs on the album, and vary widely in how the different parties expressed. From electro to progressive and intense acid to a melodic, almost Justice inspired breakdown must be said to be the highlight. For a song and a creativity!

But it does not stop there. For there are several songs that really made me grin broadly when I heard how they eventually dropped. Epos and especially Fall Into The Sky with wonderful Ellie Goulding on vocals were also songs that started sober, but that suddenly appeared in some very massive drop. Furthermore, there is also a couple of songs that keep it steady as its great title track Clarity with a lovely vocal track from Foxes as we know from the radio hit Youth. Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic is also on the album and delivers great vocals to Lost At Sea as one is a thoroughly progressive song. Previously, only the Spectrum and Shave It Up which is released earlier, but what does that matter, when there are two of his best songs?

Clarity is not a typical artist album in my ears for it is focused entirely on the songs in keeping with previous releases. There is no instrumental songs, experimental pieces or else "nonsense" as manufacturers all too often takes the album. Instead, it renspikket electro and progressive from start to finish. There are no songs that fall significantly outside and there's a whole uniformly high quality of the songs.

One thing to note is that several manufacturers are not credited in the track list. For example, the Fall Into The Sky also produced with Lucky Date, and Porter Robinson has played on Codec.

Tracklist (in order of appearance):
What can they probably been doing together,
They have been exchanging sounds from zippyshare live from twitter and everybody could participate.
This is the last try of Armin van Buuren on the notes of Deadmau5! (link)
And this applies in the case of X-rated like no other. Well, we all gotta agree that it wasn't such a mess, but who listened to anything else from that rather than ohh noo, the underground and execute anyway?
Well, the time has come for you to entirely change your playlist, because the remixes are now out! Excision did well to get the best to work on this album, and the results are amasing.
The EP covers most of modern EDM's styles, like electro-house, moombah, dnb and dubstep.
The one track that caught my attention though is Far Too Loud's remix of. Sexism. That track was a mess, but know. Well. It gives me goosebumbs.
You can grab the EP on Itunes (Sorry for not posting the link, as we had a tehnical problem)<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Electronic dance music world is Shaking

Electronic dance music world is Shaking. A real scandal is going through our beloved genre of music.
Well, how to start.. EDMsnob, a website that seems the "Wikileaks of the Electronic Dance Music" got some reserved documents that certify that some djs and their managers pay large fees to DJ Magazine (known as DJ Mag) in exchange for publishing positive stories about them.
Dj mag is mainly famous for DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll.

The blog EDMsnob tells also: "As a result of that investigation, an insider approached us with financial data revealing many cases in which the UK-based publication accepted large payments in exchange for feature articles about an artist, presenting these articles as news. We were able to match these payments with the resulting articles."

The targets are djs such as Aly e Fila, Dj Vierro, Ferry Costern and the twice dj mag top 100 djs pool Paul Van Dyk.

Usually the news company clearly divede paid advertisements from actual news to make the reader able to understand what is a fact described by writer of the magazine and what is just paid section.

This way of working is sad and non-moral. That djs paid between 10 and 15 thousands of dollars for each article.

I am sure a lot of fans will change their own opinion about this influential magazine but, surely more, they will change their own opinion about these djs!

What do you think about it?
You probably never heard of Quba. He's a new-to-the-scene Romanian EDM producer. His talent immediately caught my attention, and from what I saw after i researched about him a little more, I was not the only one. He also got the attention of the grammy-awards winner Skrillex.

His first official release was a remix of Dada Life's Happy Violence track, which you can hear on his youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/QubaOfficial/

He recently released a teaser for his debut EP, called Inception, and I got to admit that every single track on that specific album is going to rock the clubs around the world. If you don't belive me, be my guest and check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwiYuObnhgI&feature=plcp

There is not much to be said about this guy, but he is surely the next big thing in dubstep. Tell me what you guys think about this dude in the comment section below. Cheers!

Deadmau5' new album "Album title goes here"
As you may or may not know by now, deadmau5 is set to release his 4th studio album this september, Deadmau5 has said in his recent streams that the album is in its final stages of completion and will feature 12 new tracks some already released and some new not heard tracks that he has been working on.

Also there are rumors that deadmau5 will be including another disk in the album which features old not released tracks from the past.
Deadmau5 is also set to release his new track 'professional griefers' with my chemical romance singer 'Gerard Way' vocals.

You can find the track here via YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTNN2LHNOsM

Both the track and the album are set to be released this september, professional Griefers on the second of september and the album on the 25th.
There has been complaints by fans that the album title is to similar to random album title and for lack of
a better name.

The album has been listed on Ultra and on Amazon and bestbuy

In 2009, Dave Nada (Producer and DJ) had planned to play Electro - House (around 128 BPM) at the "School-Skipping Party" for his younger cousin, but he realized that the attendees were dancing to reggaeton (which is usually 108 - 112 BPM). He solved this problem by slowing down the Afrojack remix of "Moombah" ( by Silvio Ecomo & DJ Chuckie) from 128 BPM to 108 BPM.

The term Moombahton was born (the fusion of the track "Moombah" and the genre "Reggaeton" created this new term), but the concept of combining reggaeton percussions with electronic music goes back much farther (examples of Artists are Diplo and Munchi).

Very typical (not a must) for Moombahton is the Reggaeton drum-pattern. It creates a hip shaking effect, which is the reason why it is so popular on the dancefloor. Here is a very basic drum pattern to understand the difference to House:

Here are some Moombahton tracks:

Dillon Francis – Masta Blasta

Dillon Francis & Kill the Noise – Dill The Noise

Now, it´s time for some Moombahcore :)

Moombahcore (usually 110 BPM) is a SUB-GENRE of Moombahton. Basically it is Moombahton with influences by "aggressive Dubstep" and Dubstep elements, such as Wobbles, Growls, Mid-Range Basses and FM-Synthesis. It feels like it is "Sped-Up-Dubstep" from 70 BPM to 110 BPM.
Personally as a Electronic Music Producer I think it is the perfect tempo for "Dubstep".

Moombahcore is neither too fast nor too slow, different to Dubstep, you can actually dance to it instead of just banging your head , and it still got the punchy Dubstep Snare.
Artists such as Knife Party, Skrillex, Datsik, Dillon Francis, Diplo and many others helped this Sub-Genre to grow.

Here are some Moombahcore tracks:

Diplo – Barely Standing (feat. Datsik & Sabi)

So the summer break is over for us back at Goldmyr, I hope you didn’t miss us too much. With so many things happening around the EDM scene, it’s hard for us to keep track of everything that’s being released, especially since we were like 2 months away.

Anyway, one release really got my attention. As much as I love mau5trap for it’s good selection of music that varies from Glitch Hop to Electro-House, there is yet another aspect that makes me fall in love with this label. It’s the fact that they promote new and unknown artists. And their latest EP does JUST that.
The artists promoted on this compilation EP are:

Tom Neville: I really enjoyed his progressive house track, even though I’m pretty sure I never heard of him before. It’s nice to have another talented producer around the scene, though he needs a lot of improvement.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cGMkJBtrKM

Tom Staar: The same story as the above guy, though I like his track a little more than Tom Neville’s. But that’s my opinion, I may just like it more because it sounds more like mau5. You never know.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6rTLqXebM8&feature=relmfu

James Njie: Most of you already know this guy from the compilation EP released on the same label, Meowingtons Hax Tour, where he had two of his tracks showcased. Nevertheless, his track is one of the better ones on the album, James once again proving me that he is one of the better producer out there.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZwkouMEJlg&feature=relmfu

Heat Maxwell: The EDM enthusiasts may have already heard about Maxwell and his impressive remix of Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know. While he wasn’t an extremely good producer when he released that, I can tell that he improves. In my opinion, uprising is the best track on this compilation EP. Good job Maxwell, we want to see more of the same in the future.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfHy_TsVMY0

Born Freak and Buddygirl: I put these two up together because they are so similar. These two young producers are the future of progressive house. And I am not talking about the boring, club style progressive. I am talking about the real, chill out one. Their tracks left me speechless.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOOJYlqvsFU&feature=relmfu

River Accorsi: Wow. This guy. His DnB talent is out of this world, if not even out of this universe. It’s amasing what a guy can do with one bassline and a basic beat. Just. Intense. I recommend checking this out by yourselves, I’m too into the bassline to tell you about the whole track right now *hypnotized*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi0gT6G4yP8&feature=relmfu

Kairo Kingdom: I’m gonna be straight here. I never heard this kind of glitch-hop before. Maybe because the only glich-hop I listen to is from Opiuo. Not really sure. But this track is simply catchy, and I bet the real Glitch-Hop fans out there will agree with me. You will… don’t you?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yvgOfODo_A&feature=relmfu

Henry Gould: He’s not that young, but his producing skills are still good. He is not going to be the next Tiesto, but he’s on track. This guy scared me a little bit. Not sure if it’s because he looks like that guy from the Harry Potter series (the bad one that had the smeagol like thingie as a pet) or because his track’s title is taken from a porn movie gone wrong. Either way, it’s worth checking this guy out in the near future.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B8KqXil_SM

So that pretty much concludes it. Tell me what do you guys think about this EP in the comment section below. See you around!

Imagine a precisely blended concoction of tight irresistible grooves, chunk fueled bouncy beats, luscious brooding soundscapes, and a bowl of scrumptious glitch. Welcome to the musical world of Opiuo. A self confessed music addict with a light hearted approach to life and art.”

This guy is great. I mean, he’s not the usual producer. He has his own and unique style, like Skrillex and Deadmau5. Pretty much no other producer can make a song sound as good as theirs (or at least similar to theirs), and that’s what more and more fans start appreciating. With the EDM scene continuing to grow, a huge number artists appear out of the underground, but only the unique and the talented will be able to reach the mainstream. And Opiuo has it all.

His influences comes from everything. From day to day experiences to the usual cup of tea or the morning coffee. His style is a mixture of jazz, reggae, funk, rock, psychedelia, breakbeat, and “right down chunky goodness”.

The Opiuo sound is being included in DJ sets from some of the world’s most appreciated artists. From Z-Trip to Bassnectar, KraftyKuts to Tripper and everyone in between. His music has dominated digital download charts with his debut EP “Slurp and Giggle” being nominated for Best Dance / Electronic Release at the Australian Independent Music Awards, reaching number 10 on Itunes while being the most downloaded album of 2010 on acidtech.com. His single releases were #1 on beatport on Electronica, Dubstep, Breaks and even Chillout Charts. He also won the title of the best Glitch Hop artist from Beatport in 2011.

His latest EP “Butternut Slap 2” was released just a few days ago, featuring 4 great (as always) tracks.

I don’t think there’s much to say about this guy. I think he’s great, the world thinks he’s great and he also has a great voice. He’s the only and I mean the ONLY rapper I still listen to. (and yes, contrary to the popular belief, Example IS a rapper). Why do I like him so much? Because his style is new and fresh and that’s what I am always looking for. Something new.

His real name is Elliot Gleave and, According to the Kickstarts Songfacts, Gleave’s performing name goes back to his schooldays when he was rapping in the playground and some guy nicknamed him Example from his initials EG. Even though he started releasing songs somewhere in the year of 204, his breakthrough years were 2009-2010, when he released an EP called „Won’t go quietly”, featuring „Watch the sun come up”, „Won’t go quietly” and „Kickstarts”.

//-->

Just one year later he released another critically aclaimed EP called „Playing in the shadows”. This album is huge, really. I can talk about each and every single song featured on it for a few hours each. Actually, it’s that great that it debuted at number one in the UK albums chart.

Over the years, example worked with various artists such as Flux Pavilion, Feed Me ( For those who didn’t know, his single called „Midnight Run” is actually produced by Jon Gooch ), Chase & Status, Professor Green, etc.

In 2012, he confirmed a release of a 4th album. He will be collaborating with producers like : Dillon Francis, Tommy Trash, Benga, Michael Woods and so on.

So, next time you are looking for some really inspiring and interesting lyrics or just a bunch of songs with meaning, be sure to search this guy on youtube.
