The following website allows you to design your personal QSL cards, send them your log and the cards are automatically printed and sent to the RSGB for distribution.
Easy, not expensive and works well. RSGB advise that they support the service.

USA BPL system is closing down! (ARRL News)

IBEC -- one of the very few remaining operators of Access BPL systems -- has announced that it is closing down. In an undated announcement that appeared on the IBEC website, the company announced that it has "no other option than to close our doors and cease operations." IBEC claims that it cannot recover financially from the April 2011 tornadoes in Alabama that "ravished some of our major service areas." IBEC provided Internet service via broadband over power lines (BPL) to rural communities.
"While we regret the loss of jobs brought about by IBEC's BPL business failure, in the long run the rural areas that IBEC was trying to serve will be better served by broadband technologies that are superior to BPL and do not pollute the radio spectrum," said ARRL Chief Executive Officer David Sumner, K1ZZ. "While initially IBEC was cooperative in addressing the ARRL's concerns about interference to licensed radio services -- including Amateur Radio -- the ARRL was dismayed to find that the systems as actually deployed fell short of meeting even the inadequate requirements of the FCC's rules. We hope that this latest in the long string of Access BPL failures will persuade the few remaining fans of BPL to turn their attention elsewhere."

We selected 19:00 hour’s local time each Sunday evening starting Sunday 18th December 2011.

Membership 2012.

Please fill in one of these membership forms for the current year and forward it to me either via mail (address on QRZ) email or personally. You you may feel that you have already submitted your details to the society, but we have to maintain accurate records to aid communication. Some records are clearly wrong as I get many bounced emails and the easiest way to ensure accuracy is to collect the details for all members again.

Subscriptions

It was agreed at the 2011 AGM that subscriptions would remain at current levels (as agreed AGM 2010)
Adult £20.
OAP £15.
Student (full time education) £5.
Family from £20 (£10 per additional member).
It was suggested by the current committee that membership for those over the age of 80 should
be free. The members were unanimous in their agreement to this.

The Star of India 148th Birthday

The Star of India is the oldest active sailing ship in the World and it was launched from Ramsey Shipyard in November 1863.
The ship is now in San Diego, California and on 12th and 13th November it will be sailing with an Amateur Radio station on board using the callsign NS6OI.
The radio station will operate from 16:00z to 23:00z as follows:
SSB 14.275mhz and 28.350mhz
CW (every 2 hours) 14.035mhz and 28.025mhz

NS6OI QSL cards will be sent to stations which provide their QSL card and a SASE.

The IOMARS are planning to set up a special event station from Ramsey Coast Guard Station.

Success in Europe

During the meeting of the CEPT WRC-12 Conference Preparatory Group held in Bucharest between November 1st-4th 2011 an European Common Proposal was agreed.

This ECP represents the block vote of 48 administrations and was passed without dissent. It proposes an allocation to the amateur service between 472-480 kHz on a secondary basis with a maximum power limit of 5W eirp.

This ECP will now be forwarded to the ITU as a contribution from CEPT.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who participated in the work of the working group that led to the adoption of this proposal. Also thanks are due to those European Member Societies who helped to influence their national administrations in this matter.
