Lauren has Arrived....Finally!

Good afternoon everyone. I am very pleased to announce the long awaited birth of my granddaughter.........

Lauren Rae

Lauren entered the world at 12:29pm weighing in at 7lbs. 11oz, and a whopping 21 Inches long!

Mom and baby are doing very well after 26.5 hours of labor! Lauren is a hungry, happy little princess girl. Lauren's daddy is a very proud young man, and is holding up well with about 4 hours sleep in the last 48.

That's enough babble............

HERES LAUREN!

Well... Jack and I got some sleep, while we continue for princess Lauren to make her debut in to the world.

The doctor's efforts to coax this young lady in to the world thus far have failed. I suspect thats the Prough in her. Making us wait because she can! What a little pistol she is going to be.

Its currently 7am, I will call the hospital in a few minutes....I don't suspect they will allow this to go on much longer. In one hour it will have come full circle for a full 24 hours.....Poor Lindsey. I bet she is starving!

I am sure everyone else is getting impatient, as I am. Mom and dad to be are surely reaching the point of exhaustion. Little do they know that will now last for 4 years or so.....

Mom's labor is progressing nicely. Jack and I just ran home to check on the brood and eat some pizza. So I thought I would update you.

Little Jack, was attempting to nap before his impending plunge in to parenthood. He worked last night over night and hasn't been to sleep yet...sounds like good practice to me!

I hope to have pictures of the beautiful little angel, to make her debut in my next post.....

Grandma Anxiously Awaits Lauren

Well guys, I am very not so patiently awaiting Jack to get home and drive us to the hospital. Little Jack called at 4pm or so to tell me that his girlfriend Lindsey was in labor and they had kicked him out to break her water.

I know full well it may be some time, but I am soooo worried I will miss it. We already know its a girl. Her name is Lauren Rae, and I think she is going to be a stringbean.

Anyhow, will keep you all informed as I can.....wish for the best and say a quick prayer for a safe delivery and healthy Lauren.

BTW...I very much wanted Lauren to be born on my birthday, August 31st...but the 13 is only the 31st backwards! Ha, grandma wins that one!

FDA Food Recall | Castleberry's Food Co. Chilli Sauce and Canned Meat Products

Yesterday 7/23/07 the FDA placed a recall for all Castleberry canned meat and dog food products from their Georgia canning facility. The call to action is due to a botulism contamination possibly contaminating millions of cans of food....thus creating a public health threat.

Consumers are instructed to dispose of any cans from the company's Georgia location they have on hand. Again, ANY canned Castleberry product should be disposed of immediately, no matter what the date is.

Botulism causes breathing difficulty, dizziness, fatigue, vision problems, and stomach cramps. The bacterial infection caused by the botulinum toxin can cause fatality if left untreated, or in cases of depressed immunity, illness, agedness, and the very young.

Yahoo Photos Dies After Many Long Years of Service

Yahoo Photos was a pioneer launching its services in March of 2000, with unlimited space and easy upload features connecting users profiles and photos...it was an instant hit. On March 29th, 2005 the Yahoo Photo presence grew even stronger with the purchase of flickr photo community. In May of 2007, Yahoo began to hint that they were abandoning the project for a bigger venue. In the beginning of June current users became unable to upload new photos, and new members could not sign up. Yahoo sent out notices 6/16/2007 that it is killing the Yahoo Photos portion of your Yahoo user account.

Not to worry, you can easily move your pics to either flickr; shutterfly; Kodak Gallery; photobucket; or snapfish. I suggest if this is stuff you want searched that you move it to flickr, this article here describes the new process Yahoo is using to index 300 million flickr photos.
Download them from your Yahoo Favorites Folder.
Order your pictures on a CD from englaze 700mb for 6.95 USD this is hundreds of pictures depending on the size of the files. (1.99 S&H USA /Int. 4.99 and up). You can even create a custom CD label for it!

Ok so you have until September 20Th, 2007 to figure it out. There was no information readily available, but I suspect for continued Yahoo features to share photos the natural move choice would be flickr.

LeBron James Putting Akron, Ohio on the Map Olympic Style

Young LeBron James NBA rookie record setter and local hero, is going for the gold again in by playing with the U.S. national team in next month's FIBA America's Tournament, to attempt to qualify for the 2008 Olympics. If successful this will be the second trip to the Olympics for this young superstar, he participated in the 2004 games and sports a Bronze Medal already.

LeBron a local Akron, Ohio player has what it takes! King James has a professional rap sheet that rates up there with Jordan's.

He was the number 1 overall draft pick in the 2003 NBA draft, straight out of high school.
He set a record by being one of only 3 rookies ever in the NBA to average a minimum of 20 pts., five rebounds, and five assists in one season. Rubbing shoulders with 2 other great NBA stars Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan, previous record setters.
He was the youngest player ever to compete for the US men's basketball team in the Olympics.
LeBron was the youngest NBA player to score over 1000 pts. a single season, and most points scored in the NBA by a teenager with 2,362 points.
He was the youngest player in the history of the NBA to be chosen Rookie of the Year in 2004, and to date the only Cleveland Cavalier to ever achieve the title.

12/2003 LeBron dropped in at Ed Davis Community Center in Cleveland, sweatshirts along and $50 gift cards for K B Toys to more than 100 kids who play basketball in the Tiny Tots league at the center.
9/2005 LeBron donated 1,000 backpacks full of school supplies to area youngsters in Akron and Cleveland through his non-profit James Family Foundation and in partnership with Target. LeBron personally distributed the supplies at two locations on September 2nd.
Perhaps his most well know community event is the LeBron James’ Bikeathon. Schwinn Bicycles co-sponsors the LeBron James "King for Kids" Bikeathon in Akron, Ohio. Homeland Security Grants Opportunity for Missing Soldier's Wife to Remain in The US

It isn't everyday you hear about the good things the US government may do. Today however I can report one good thing the Department of Homeland Security has done for one young military wife whose husband is MIA.

Yaderlin Hiraldo met Ramon "Andy" Jimenez in the Dominican Republic, where they were high-school sweethearts. Jimenez later moved to Lawrence, MA., where his father lives. Yaderlin visited Andy several times there.

In 2001, Hiraldo entered the country illegally. She paid to get into Mexico, then walked over 4 days to the US border.

On June 14, 2004, Hiraldo and Andy married in Fort Drum, NY., before he left for his tour in Iraq. Hiraldo was caught in Homeland Security's radar when the tried to take their honeymoon in Canada.

In 2006 Andy petitioned the court on behalf of Hiraldo. He hoped she could acquire a green card and permanent resident status. He even went to court with her in his full dress uniform. This was shortly after Andy was awarded a Purple Heart for an injury while serving in Iraq.

The judge has delayed the proceedings until Andy returns from his second tour in Iraq. The inherent problem being, Andy and another soldier Byron Fouty are MIA believed to have been captured by a group connected to the al-Qaida, which claimed, via the Internet, that they had killed both soldiers. They have been missing since the 10Th Mountain Division unit was ambushed just south of the city of Baghdad on 5/12/07. Additionally supporting evidence is that their ID cards were found last week in an al-Qaida safe house just north of the city of Baghdad. Matthew Kolken, Hiraldo's lawyer is concerned about Hiraldo's fate should Andy not return.

MA Senators John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, are pressing the Department of Homeland Security to stop the deportation Hiraldo while her husband is still missing. Michael Chertoff, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security supplied this response to Kerry in a letter.

"The sacrifices made by our soldiers and their families deserve our
greatest respect, and we will ensure that Ms. Hiraldo's immigration case is
given every possible consideration."

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is going to allow Yaderlin to apply for legal, permanent resident status without first being forced to return to the Dominican Republic. If she had been deported, she would have to wait 10 years to apply for residency in the US.

So honoring our soldiers is even practiced by Homeland Security...Bravo!

Automated Detection and Ticketing of Cell Phone Users while Driving

An Akron, Ohio company called HST or Highway Safety and Technology has developed the technology to detect and (get this) cite drivers using cellular phones while driving! I don't think talking on the phone while driving is exactly appropriate, but if I am using my Blue Tooth I shouldn't get a ticket for it.

"Automated detection of drivers using cell phones is a reality today," says
Michael Rosen, President and CEO of Highway Safety & Technology (HST). "Our
automated detection system will assist communities in enforcing laws which ban
cell phone use while driving and aid in reducing traffic accidents," Rosen adds.
"The safety of drivers, passengers and other motorists is far more important
than the perceived loss of personal privacy and convenience."

Even in municipalities where talking and driving are illegal, you can still make use of your headset legally. Until this fall when they plan to launch this system. Where do you think they will start this program...this company is 10 minutes from my home. So now the state tells me I HAVE TO wear a seat belt or get a ticket, now I won't be able to talk on my phone with my headset without getting an AUTOMATED TICKET, but its still okay to ride motorcycles in Ohio without helmets. OHIO needs to get a grip! I am disgusted. Ugh!

Texas Protects is Children from Sex Offenders on MySpace

HOUSTON — Seven convicted sex offenders with profiles on MySpace.com have been arrested in what Texas officials said was the country's first large-scale crackdown of registered offenders who use the social networking Web site.

Let me start by saying I am all for this! I see little difference between visiting MySpace or a skating rink. Check out some helpful sexual offender facts here. Basically, they get to know their victims, they usually get away with their crimes, they are resistant to treatment, they re offend, and sex crimes are on the rise. Most sex offenders have to be subjected to these types of post judgement restrictions and reporting:

They usually have to register their home address, works address, and sometimes even an address of significant other. Additionally they will be required to update it regularly.
Keep any and all counseling, probation, and community service appointments.
Continue physician ordered medication.
Be available: self, home, automobile, and any other personal property for search at any time, with or without a warrant.
Not allowed to posses illegal drugs or paraphernalia.
Not allowed to partake in alcoholic beverages especially if it was a factor in the crime committed.
Cannot live within certain distance of parks, school, playgrounds, etc.
Cannot visit parks, playgrounds, or any other establishment "known" to cater to young children. For example a McDonalds with a playground could be deemed inappropriate.
Many communities have their registries online with pictures and addresses.
They are usually required to notify police of travel plans.

So as you can see, the Attorney General Greg Abbott of Texas is dead.....just without precedent. This is no different that a sex offender visiting a park or a library. I applaud Texas for their ingenuity and backbone in their quest to protect our children. Bravo!

Video, Working for Google and Loving it

Wow, I thought I liked my job. These folks are hooked up! Seems to me the"Wal Mart" of the Internet treats its employees better than the real Wal Mart, but not its suppliers. Google claims about 55% of your searches already, and they have been slowing on the rise. My concern is Google always seems to "have their hand in the cookie jar". They bought YouTube, and overnight sites with video shot up in rank. They bought FeedBurner, same thing. Even this Blog is a perfect example, its a Google Blog and it gets linked no problem while other Blogs do not. They have that "do as I say not as I do" attitude.

Google has been SLAMMING web sites for duplicate content, even some cases where the site has been scraped/stolen and penalized them (Including me)..while they maintain their own duplicate content in order to Spam the Open Directory. Google has also been in trouble at least twice publicly for misusing users information, but they are in development of the TrustRank Program. The TrustRank Program is not a bad idea, I'm just not sure Google is qualified to administer it with business trust factor. But no matter I am sure Google, it's Partners, and subsidiaries will be exempt from TrustRank!

Kentucky on Religion; Answers in Genesis?

It isn't every day you see something so incredibly stupid that you are just taken back by it. I got up this morning, secured my coffee and visited my favorite SEO forum. There in the break room was this as reported by the New York Times. Apparently some group called Answers in Genesis, and its president Ken Ham decided to hell with the rest of the Bible and the have interpreted Genesis to mean that evolution kinda occurred, but after creation the dinosaurs were there at the same time as Adam and Eve strolling in the garden. I don't mind a little intelligent debate on debatable issues, this one is lacking both intelligent and debatable in my opinion. I am Catholic, so my views are clearly religiously fairly structured. My grandmother is Apostolic and extremist, she does not even support this crazy notion, although she has some crazy ones of her own. I am not saying people cannot express their own thoughts on religion, but you cannot in good conscience profit from it, and call it a damn museum.

Man Trapped Under Fallen Tree Amputates Own Leg

OK, now I have give this guy a lot of credit. Al Hill (66) an experienced California logger was cutting down trees near Big Dipper Mine, when one of the trees fell on him trapping him. He had his cell phone but it had no signal to make a call for help. He had no choice but to cut off his left leg (just below the knee), with...(not going to believe this) his pocket knife to free himself. That evening about 11hrs. after he became trapped he made it to the hospital. Hill was rescued by Eric Bookey who heard his cries for help, loaded Hill in his pick up truck, and made for the emergency area. Hill will remain in the hospital for a while. The good news is, his home town of Iowa Hill has plans to help him for as long as necessary through recovery.
Could you cut off your leg to free yourself? I'm not sure I'm that strong.

A New Preamble for the Constitution

"We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other liberal bed-wetters. We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of NON-Rights."

ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc.; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.

ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful; do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes. (This one is my pet peeve...get an education and go to work....don't expect everyone else to take care of you!)

ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.

ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII: You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful. (AMEN!)

ARTICLE IX: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

ARTICLE X: This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you are from, English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from! (Lastly....)

ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all; with no fear of persecution. The phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable with it, TOUGH!

This has been attributed to State Representative Mitchell Kaye from Georgia. This guy should run for President one day...

Akron Beacon Journal Appoints Female Publisher

The Akron Beacon Journal has appointed Andrea Mathewson a 29 year ABJ employee to the publisher position. She will serve as the FIRST female publisher ever in the paper's 168 years of operation. She graduated high school 5 minutes from me at Springfield High School and joined the ABJ right after graduation. Apparently she is REALLY a minority....

Mathewson is joining a rare sorority, as publisher
of a newspaper with a circulation greater than 85,000 daily.
Of 137 such
newspapers in the United States, 25 had women publishers in 2006, up from 11 in
2000, according to ``Women in Media,'' a study by the Media Management Center at
Northwestern University in Illinois.

In 2006 she was named one of the Nation's Top Production Executives by a Editor and Publisher Magazine which is an trade journal for the industry. That's high honors to be credited publicly by your peers.

Mathewson says she will focus on gross revenue growth but plans to respect the ABJ's role in the community. She plans to provide solid leadership to the Beacon in her new position. I wish her luck in her new endeavor.

Statutory Rape Question

This is kind of a sickening "Actual" news article. My issue is the prisoner 42 arrested for statutory rape as a man, later found to be a woman had sexual relations on several occasions with a 15 year old and was only charged with statutory rape. Then after I think clearly under charging her, they made her/him a deal! NO JAIL TIME! Yes she must register as sex offender, stay out of trouble for 6 years, and change her drivers license to reflect that she is a woman. Seriously she had sex with a 15 year old on SEVERAL occasions, and Tennessee the high and mighty proponents of Megan's Law let her off, even after she lied and made fools of them lying about her gender. Even to the of point residing in the male section of County Jail awaiting trial! At what point do deals become tom foolery? She slapped Tennessee in the face! Staying out of trouble for 6 years, we all know most sex offenders are very capable controllers, just like other types of abusers. Who is to say she will not just find another child to trick and abuse, who will be to afraid, charmed or embarrassed to tell. That is how they operate. Yes eventually they would probably get her and lock her up, but they already should have once!

'Male' Inmate Found to Be a Woman

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (March
30) - An inmate was jailed as a man for more than a week on a statutory rape
charge before a shower revealed the prisoner was a woman.

Alexander David Cross, also known as Elaine Ann Cross, had been in
the Hamilton County Jail awaiting a court appearance Wednesday. Cross pleaded
guilty to the charge in a deal with prosecutors.

The charge stems
from an alleged sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl. Prosecutors allege
Cross, 42, and the teenager had sexual contact at least three times during June
and July 2006.

Officials said Cross' gender was revealed when jail
authorities forced the inmate to take a shower.

"After about 10
days in jail, they figure out Alex Cross is a female," prosecutor Boyd Patterson
said in court.

The plea means no jail time will be required if
Cross stays out of trouble for six years. Cross must register as a convicted sex
offender and have no contact with the teen. The gender designation also must be
changed to female on Cross' driver's license.

Cross couldn't
immediately be located for comment.

This is really a shame...........................

Police: Dad Burns Baby In Microwave

Officials Say Man Confessed

GALVESTON, Texas -- A 19-year-old has been charged with injury to a child after police said his 2-month-old daughter was burned when he placed her in a microwave.

Joshua Mauldin, of Arkansas, has been charged with injury to a child causing serious harm. He is in the Galveston County jail with bond set at $250,000.

At Shriners Burns Hospital on Tuesday, doctors treated internal injuries and third-degree burns the infant suffered to the left side of her face and left hand. She is listed in critical condition.

Maudlin arrived at a Galveston hotel last week along with the baby, his wife and mother. He called 911 on Thursday, saying that his baby had been burned in the hotel room when he tripped while carrying a pot of hot water to make coffee.

But police Sgt. Annie Almendarez said investigators later decided the child's injuries were not consistent with that story. She said investigators believe the child was in the microwave for 10 to 20 seconds.

"I've been doing this for a lot of years and it actually brought tears to my eyes," Almendarez said. "I'm sitting there looking at the pictures and I'm sitting there looking at him and there's nothing I could really do about it but just keep my composure and go on."

Detectives said Mauldin later confessed to putting his daughter in the microwave and said he was frustrated by the demands of caring for her.

At the time the child was injured, her mother and Mauldin's mother were picking up dinner at a nearby restaurant.

According to police reports, Mauldin told investigators God ordered him to go to Galveston to look for work as a minister.

If convicted, Mauldin could receive a prison term of five to 99 years, as well as a fine of up to $10,000.
