Dead Static update

We've been hard at work wrapping up post-production on Emily's Bridge and also pre-production on Lake Bomoseen. Both of these found footage tales are part of our upcoming found footage trilogy called Dead Static. We do not have a third tale chosen yet but the overall film will be about 20 minutes or so with each tale ranging from 5-8 minutes. The 1st tale Emily's Bridge turned out great and we're hoping to achieve the same horrifying results with the next tale Lake Bomoseen, which we will be shooting later this summer. We're holding a casting call on May 12th from 6pm-9pm at VCAM in Burlington if you're in Vermont and want to try out. More details here.

Now that our short Halloween film Pumpkinbane has been released and uploaded to our YouTube channel, we've gone straight back into production on a new project. Since our short found footage award-winning film Night of the Vampire has been so successful, we've decided to return to what we're best at. So this time we're doing a found footage trilogy called Dead Static. The first piece of footage Emily's Bridge has already been shot and is now in post-production (it's a little over 5 minutes). The second piece of footage we start shooting mid to late summer. The last piece we shoot late fall. We do not have a release date yet but we're hoping sometime early in 2014. The overall film will probably be around 20 minutes. Creepy stuff!

Pumpkinbane last update

This will be the final update for our upcoming short Halloween movie Pumpkinbane, which we are releasing to YouTube on March 13th. The movie is now 98% done in the edit and all that's left is some minor adjustments. Around the beginning of March, we will be releasing an illustrated poster for the movie which was done by Matthew Sylvester of Vermont. Then on March 13, we'll embed the movie here on the DeadFi blog and all our social networks will have a link to watch it as well. Here's to an early Halloween for 2013!

Casting Males in Vermont

We are seeking young males between 18-25 for our upcoming found footage anthology Dead Static. The 1st tale shoots early this March and will consist of two consecutive night shoots in Stowe. We are currently setting up individual auditions in Burlington with serious and reliable talent only. Please email us if you are interested with a pic of yourself and town of residence as well as general availability. No experience is necessary. Please note: no out-of-state talent will be considered, Vermont based actors only. No pay/non-union.

Pumpkinbane update #6

Pumpkinbane is almost done in the edit. We're doing some more sound work later this month and also trying out Magic Bullet Looks on the footage to see what we get. The additional visual FX we had added in turned out great as well thanks to Stephen Maas. So the movie is on track for the official release date which is set for Wednesday, March 13th, 2013. Look for it here on the blog and on YouTube, etc. I think it is a fun yet bizarre little Halloween movie. I hope people enjoy it!

Pumpkinbane update #5

Way deep in the pits of Hell editing Pumpkinbane as this beast of a short film slowly comes together. Post-production is probably about 60% done and it's looking really good but definitely strange! A.J. Sealy has started on the score and we also have an FX artist working on something to add into one of the shots. Very exciting to see it come together but it takes so much patience and a very critical eye. Can't wait to see it at 100%. Anyway, we still do not have a release date but hopefully we'll choose one soon as the new year approaches. Pumpkinbane update #4

We have finally finished shooting our upcoming short film PUMPKINBANE and it is now in full post-production mode. We're all very excited about this film as it marks a slightly different style for us. I would have to say the film is kind of like an old EC Comic but with a grindhouse 80's vibe if that makes any sense. It's a bizarre Halloween tale with tongue planted firmly in cheek. Anyway, A.J. Sealy, who scored our last film, is joining us again to create an original musical score which will certainly be fantastic. We're hoping to release Pumpkinbane sometime in the 1st few months of 2013 but no date has been chosen yet. Stay tuned!

Pumpkinbane update #3

We've been shooting all week and many nights up to 6am in the morning but it's been a blast! Anyway, the film is looking fantastic and has exceeded my expectations. We only have one more night of shooting and sound work later this month and then it's full post production time. Pumpkinbane has been the best experience I've ever had making a short film. I'm gonna look back on this the rest of my life with a big smile.

It's finally that time when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest and we're busy shooting our 1st Halloween short film called Pumpkinbane. We continue tonight with our third night of shooting for some real creepy stuff. Last night, we spent six hours shooting a title sequence that came out amazing. Only three more nights of shooting to go!

Pumpkinbane update #1

We started shooting early due to the Frankenstorm Sandy and what we got so far is outstanding! We continue shooting Tuesday with some basic shots and then back to full production Wednesday through Friday. I believe this film has the potential to be our best short yet but we'll see. It's really turning out incredible so far with a strange blend of tongue and cheek humor and under your skin creepiness. Stay tuned!!

Pumpkinbane coming...

I'm thrilled to announce that this coming Monday, October 29th, we begin shooting a new horror short called PUMPKINBANE. This will be our first Halloween themed short and I'm aiming for a pulp horror/comic feel similar to the style of our short film Midnight Roadkill. We've been slaving away on this for the last month and I believe we have a really cool tale to tell that will be very entertaining. Pumpkinbane stars Katie Kenworthy and Zak Frederick. We'll be releasing it sometime next year. Stay tuned.

Night of the Vampire Festival News

Our short film Night of the Vampire has been accepted into two film festivals this year so far which are the Fear Fête Horror Film Festival in Louisiana (where it has been awarded Best Vampire Micro Short) and the Killer Film Festival in Massachusetts. This is great news especially after all the hard work. I hope people enjoy it on the big screen!

UPDATE: We are also in the Late Night Horror Film Fest in California.

The Entity

There has only been a handful of horror films that have actually scared me and The Entity (1982) is one of them. The film stars Barbara Hershey and Ron Silver and is supposedly based (at least partially) on a true story...a woman is terrorized and sexually molested by a demon. I highly recommend this film and it looks like there will be a re-release of the film on DVD/Blu-ray on July 3rd, 2012. Pre-order The Entity on Amazon!

Night of the Vampire Latest Reviews

DeadFi Update

Our latest short film A Cold Winter's Night is almost done. The original score by A.J. Sealy is amazing to say the least. I'm very impressed. We also have Matthew Sylvester doing an illustration poster for the film which is also amazing. I can't wait to release all this stuff to the world on June 20th! I think this is our best film to date even though it's not really a horror film, more of a supernatural drama. Shall be interesting!

Self Distribute Your Film!

It is now more common than ever for filmmakers to self distribute their films and it's quickly becoming the norm. There are so many options out there thanks to the Internet that you really don't need the middle men or a traditional distributor anymore. I recently read a great blog post on the Frugal Filmmaker about this and he goes into more detail about the harsh reality of film distribution. Anyway, there are two books that I own and highly recommend if you're considering making a feature film and want to self distribute. They are Lloyd Kaufman's Sell Your Own Damn Movie! and Think Outside the Box Office by Jon Reiss.

A Cold Winter's Night June 20th!

We've been very busy prepping A Cold Winter's Night for release and we've decided to make the date Wednesday, June 20th at 7pm for the Summer Solstice. Post-production is almost half way done and hopefully the score will be started soon. We also have an artist working on a web poster for the film which we will release a few days before June, 20th. Mark your calendars or RSVP on facebook! The short film will be about five and a half minutes and will be uploaded to our YouTube channel as usual and embedded on all our social networks so everyone will have a chance to watch, and hopefully, share.
