The artist. 2011

2012-02-05T21:30:00.000+01:00

Last week I took a breath from study to go to the cinema with Jordi. We went to see ( the modern because of classic) "The artist". The french director Michel Hazanavicius place the action in the Hollywood of the 30s, on the passage of silent movies to voice. The story is centrated in the careers of two actors: the first one, George Valentin, a very successful silent movie star whose career ends with the arrival of the talking pictures; and the second one, Peppy Miller, a young extra who turns in a major star of the voice cinema; who lived a sweet love story.

The transition between the two types of cinema is the main subject of the whole movie, and how it turns a nightmare for George and a dream to Peppy. Is the transition between two generations and two ways of understanding and seeing the world.

The platonic love between the two characters guides the story: from the moment they met, to the moment they finally are able to stay together, as if they were the two cinema traditions they represent. Valentin's pride leads his downfall as he resists to the changes.

The music and the no-voice gives an special atmosphere to the story and demonstrate how important is the body language and our capacity of understanding: you can follow the film really well (but, being realistic, I wasn't able to take out of my mind the idea of "something is missing": guess that the habit is too strong).

The photography and the atrezzo, as the aesthetics, are amazing. The sensibility and the sympathy of the images (and the absolutely lovely dog) help you empathize with the film, telling an atemporal story that fits very realistically the time where the story it's placed.

The artist is a reflection about the importance of being able to adapt to new situations, to progress and the transcendence of keeping open-minded. An actitude that seems a need in our crisis-times.

Day after

The Brandery is over. I must confess that I have enjoyed a lot this edition. I'm recollecting all the photos from all the cameras, blogs and webs, so it's going to take a while to make decent posts about those three days. I let you some pictures from today, when I relaxed reading some of the magazines I took :)

Good week!

The Brandery ha terminado.

¡Feliz semana!

Chocolate muffins

2012-01-20T21:30:00.000+01:00

The greatest nights use to be the result of improvisation and friends. That one wasn't an exception. Me and my friend Carlota were suposed to go for a drink, but we finally stayed at home and decided to try a Chocolate muffins recipe. It was really YUMI. (Actually, we are thinking in leaving the college and open a Cake shop :)). Here you have the recipe. I encourage you to try it: it's very easy and delicious!

Ingredients
- 190g butter
- 190g brown sugar
- 5 eggs
- 160g black chocolate
- 90g flour
- 5g yeast
- 7g salt

1. Melt the chocolate

Derrite el chocolate al baño maría

2. Melt a bit the butter, add the sugar and the yolks. Mix it. Add the melted chocolate.

Mezclalo. Añade el chocolate derretido.

3. In another bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks. Add the mixture of chocolate and butter. Mix.

Mezclalo.

4. Mix the flour, with the salt and the yeast, and add this to the mass. Mix it untill it is (more or less) homogeneous.

5. Prepare the pots for the muffins. We use those purple ones with white spots. To fill the molds, put all the mass in a plastic bag and cut a corner. Be careful and think that the muffin will rise in the oven (Don't fill them too much!)

6. Put them into the oven at 210ºC during 17minutes.

Ponlos al horno a 210ºC durante 17minutes.

YUMI!

(You can add icing sugar if you want)

Drive. 2011

2012-01-15T21:30:00.000+01:00

You were warned. I'm starting the changes, and an important part of them is the creation of a new section that I'm gonna call ART. Here I'm going to talk about cinema, theatre, literature and expositions I visit, in other words, I'm going to talk about the things that open a bit my mind and make me grow.
PD: I'm not an expert in any of the subjects I'm gonna talk, I'm just going to give my subjective opinion!

No me juzguéis demasiado duramente.

DRIVE. 2011.(http://www.filmaffinity.com/en/film832415.html)
Director: Nicolas Winding Refn
Screenwriter: Hossein Amini (Based in the book by James Sallis)
Composer: Cliff Martinez
Cinematographer: Newton Thomas Sigel
Cast:Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Ron Perlman, Bryan Cranston, Oscar Isaac, Christina Hendricks, Tina Huang, Joe Pingue, Christian Cage, James Biberi
Country: USA
Plot: DRIVE is the story of a Hollywood stunt driver (Ryan Gosling) by day, a loner by nature who moonlights as a top-notch getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld. He finds himself a target for some of LA's most dangerous men after agreeing to aid the husband of his beautiful neighbor, Irene (Carey Mulligan). When the job goes dangerously awry, the only way he can keep Irene and her son alive is to do what he does best-Drive.

Few days ago I went with my friend Carlota to see "Drive". A friend of us had seen it at "Festival de Sitges" and recommended it a lot, so we enter the cinema with a lot of expectation.
We were not disapointed. The film happened to be a mix of genres. Noir cinema, violence, love and social criticism mixed in a brilliant film, with a quiet rythm that helps you going inside the story, without making it boring. The music was remarkably amazing and full of meanings, as were the silences.
I loved the crude violence showed in the film: with no sugar, no hidding. The violence is included in the film as a natural fact, nothing complicated or much prepared. The performance of the actors is perfect for each character, they really seem the persons they act to be. Ryan Gosling turns (more) easy to love interpretating this character with lots of nuances and shapes, but a great heart; in love with a sweet Carey Mulligan in the purest way: caring of her, and just trying to keep her and her family safe.Without any egoism.

I adored the presentation, with the pink credits, the anonymity of the driver, the music, the blood, the crudity, and also the aesthetics. The silver jacket with the scorpion turned into a symbol, and also into a metaphore.

Keep the color

2011-10-19T23:07:00.002+02:00

Now that days are turning colder and University is every day a bit more stressful, it's important to keep our selves optimistic and save the color in our outfits. If the sun it's not here to make everything shine, we have to manage to keep the bright vision of the world!

And red..red, after all, THE color. Mixed with basics for a casual outfit, nothing complicated, for a afternoon with friends lying in any of the amazings bars of the Raval!

Returning to University it's being harder than I expected, and the timetables don't help! I don't have even time to post! I need to get use to it again, and organize my self a bit better, if not...this will be real hell!

I really needed to wear this dress before it turns colder! So in a random afternoon, to go to the cinema, I decided to wear it. A friend fell in love with it! (insanely) It seems that my Norwegian purchases really made it! ;)

La plaça

2011-10-08T14:12:00.001+02:00

Have you ever realized how lonely looked the places where we go out at night during the day? Every pub, bar and disco are closed, there are no tables in the terraces, no people anywhere and too much silence...

This pictures were took in "la plaça" (the square), the nocturn-life zone of L'Estartit during one of the last days of summer...

Looking at them I realized how much I miss the summer and vacation...How much is left for summer again?

My little digital camera broke up this summer, so now I'm living with cameras to "use and throw". I'm really loving the fact of having just one chance on taking the picture and capturing just this second, without knowing exactly the result. I think I gonna repair an old analogic camera, an amazing Rolleiflex that you could see here, to pick photographs. As soon as I develop the photos, I'll show you some of them! :)

This outfit is extremely simple, and with no accessories..(strange in me) Sometimes it feels great to be comfortable and sexy at the time!

One of the things that I love from the summer are the amazing evenings when you dress yourself up to go eating to amazing restaurants. That night was insanely funny! Maybe it was the wine, maybe the special the people, or the music..but the fact is that we spent an amazing time all together!

I found this amazing shirt in the local market of L'Estartit, and immediatly fell in love! It looks really good, extremely transparent with the rares designs in it... And as almost everything in my closet, it combines perfectly with my Levi's vintage! ;)

Tomorrow I'm passing my driving license test...wish me luck!

Peratallada

2011-09-08T20:44:00.000+02:00

L'Empordà is full of little villages really charming. Peratallada (that means 'cutted rock') is one of my favourite: the village is directly cut on the rock (that's the origin of the name) and as soon as you cross the medieval fort, you lose all the modern connections (no phone, no internet, no nothing!), it's calm, quiet, relaxing...and there's silence!

You can see the fort cut in the rock

I fell in love with this window full of vintage toys!

Talking about summer it's talking about light, colors, fresh air...and the same on the summer outfits! Something simple, fresh and lightly, and I think that are the right words to talk about this outfit. This kind of clothes is what I wear the most of the summer, practical things that allow me to be ready for every adventure and crazy thing that we make!

I returned home yesterday, so this days you will see lots of summer posts... I'm happy to be again connected to the world (I'm not going to lie to you! ;))...but already missing the beach, the freedom sensation and the people with who I have shared my days... But I guess that one of the things that make Summer that special is that, actually, it has an end. So now, I try to enjoy my last days of vacations to start the classes full of energy! Hope your holidays had been as great as mine! :)

Finally, I'm able to upload something! I'm in L'Estartit and we're having a lot of troubles with the internet connection!

Every summer we celebrate an amazing party in my urbanisation: we play afternoon games and have a great night ball, with sangria, champagne and canapes! After it, all the young people go the the town to end the party dancing until the morning!

This year, as usual, it was an amazing night, I ended up watching the sunrise at the beach with all my friends, who managed to make every summer better than the last one. :)

This is the outfit I chose this year: I love this H&M dress. It's suposes to be a dress to go to the beach/swimmingpool, but adding a belt, it looks perfect for a night out, don't you think?

I'm already on holidays in La Costa Brava, in my beloved L'Estartit, without camera and anything, so it's difficult to take pictures and upload them (that's why you didn't heard about me in more than a week...). I will try to solve this, there's a lot of things I would like to share with you! :)

This images are from a simple afternoon in the town in a completely summery outfit: no make-up, simple cut-offs and floffy shirt (couldn't be more comfortable!). We went to do ictiotherapy, that consists in a feet therapy done by little fishes that eat all the impurities. It sounds a bit scary, but actually it is really relaxing and you feel your feet soft!

You should try it! ;)

Fifties al Dhub

2011-07-31T13:07:00.001+02:00

Thursday night there was a party on the Dhub about fashion in the fifties. I went there with my friends Laura and Carlota, we watched the exposition and had a great time drinking some champagne. After this, we went for something to eat at the Born. We enjoyed really hot conversation, laughing and drinking coktails.

To end the party, we went to Razzmatazz, where took place the "I(heart)Dubstep" party. There we met amazing people, and end up going to the swimming pool the morning after with them. I mean...who can predicted that night? It was so incredible!

For the occasion, I decided to wear an (almost) total look vintage, really fifties, that suited the exposition so much. I was spotted many times, but it has been impossible to find the photographs, so... In the Dhub party too, I met a photographer that offered me to make a little job for him...SURPRISE! ;) (here you can see the article he made: dylarama.es

I'm exhausted! The last day we climbed the Preikestolen, an incredible and unique rock form that protrudes from the wall of the Synnes fiord. We arrived there by boat, trough the fiord, so we could visusalize where we were going to climb...It was incredible! The Preikestolen lean out at 600m, in the top of a vertical cliff. I have a bit vertigo...so I was as scared as amazed! :) hahah

It was the last day in Norway... bye Norge! I have enjoyed your amazing places, green and light for a week, and hope to return someday :)

In the pictures you can see one of my new purchases: the bowler hat (I bought it in Monki). I absolutely love it! I have found one for years, and now it's mine, finally! :)

In the afternoon we travelled to Stavanger, taking some boats to cross the fiords, and submarine tunnels. We didn't have much time to visit Stavanger, so we decided to go for a walk in the night to see the pretty harbour.

After this, we arrived to Bergen, an incredible city that I have adored (I think that the weather was key: it was extremely sunny and warm, but normally it rains 280days per year...so, I don't think I would have love it that much with its normal weather! hahah).
