Is the Movie Captain Phillips Based on a True Story?

2014-06-04T08:30:00.000-07:00

The Movie Captain Phillips is based on the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the hijacking by Somali pirates of the US MV Maersk Alabama in 2009 of the coast of Somalia Africa. This real crisis captured attention world-wide and all the major news outlets were covering the long drawn out hostage situation until it finally came to a very swift end. Tom Hanks did an excellent job portraying Captain Phillips. This was the first cinema role for Somali born Barkhad Abdi, who plays the lead pirate named Muse. Directed by Paul Greengrass. We really enjoyed this movie, 5 out of 5 stars.

Is the Movie Gravity Based on a True Story?

2014-05-31T12:14:00.000-07:00

While the movie Gravity certainly feels realistic and the human story is riveting, breathtaking really, the story is fictional. Gravity, staring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock is about astronauts who go on a routine spacewalk to do maintenance on their space station when suddenly debris from a destroyed satellite begins to orbit the earth at speeds more than 5 times faster than shots fired from a gun. The astronauts have only seconds to react and become separated form each other. Will they be lost in space forever or find a way back home? The movie earned several Oscars. Directed by Alfonso Cuarón, Warner Bros Pictures 2013.

End of Watch, Movie Based on a True Story

2012-09-26T11:21:00.001-07:00

The drama "End of Watch" was made to look real, incorporating hidden cameras in cop cars and handheld cell phone footage taken by actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña. They do an excellent job making you feel like you are watching real life police work, but it is all controlled. Director David Ayer told journalists that some real cops in L.A. who happened to see the actors around the city didn't suspect them being actors. Events in the movie are inspired by LAPD gang police officer's true stories.

2016: Obama's America, Fair or Unfair?

2012-09-24T17:01:00.004-07:00

The controversial movie "20:16 Obama's America" is a documentary by author and film maker Dinesh D'Souza. It strives to prove the notion that President Barack Husein Obama has ulterior objectives for the direction he wants to take the United States, which neither Democratic nor Republican Americans are really paying much attention to. The film is surprisingly factual and well studied, and even uses audio excerpts of Barack Obama reading his own auto-biography Dreams From My Father. The movie was not endorsed or funded by either President Obama nor the 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

You should understand this blog remains apolitical and is not associated with any political party. Our belief is the movie has a lot of truth. Definitely see it. Especially see it if all that you know about Barack Obama is what the main network news media reports or what you see in campaign commercials. This movie probably won't cause you to want to change political parties but it will answer many mysteries for you about Barack Husein Obama.

For the curious, Dinesh D'Souza authored two best selling books before making this film: The Roots of Obama's Rage and Obama's America: Unmaking the American Dream.

Who is Dr. Abigail Tyler of The Fourth Kind

2009-11-15T01:02:00.000-08:00

Here's the truth behind the movie The Fourth Kind and Dr. Abigail Tyler. The movie starts out very convincingly telling you what you are about to see is all true and real. In the movie "The Fourth Kind," actress Milla Jovovich portrays Dr. Abigail Tyler of Nome, Alaska, a psychiatrist who stumbles upon an "alien abduction" link between her patients, during clinical hypnotherapy sessions.

The movie is loosely based on the actual story of 24 villagers in Nome Alaska who's mysterious deaths and disappearances occurred between 1960 and 2004. The FBI did investigate and eventually some cases were attributed to serial killings. In other cases alcohol was a big factor in the victims disappearances. While the alien abduction theory has not been ruled out in the real stories of the missing or dead persons, it is not one that is widely believed by many Alaskans.

The movie uses the image of an owl many times. The owl is the manifestation of the aliens on the normal plane of vision. Perhaps the filmmakers chose this creature because they have excellent vision and are perceived to be wise creatures. Plus they look very spooky at night in the setting of this movie.

Alcohol abuse and suicide are extremely high in Alaska as compared to other states. Alaska's population is roughly 680,000 making them 47 in 50 states. Alaska is the number on largest state with the most spread out population. With thousands of square miles of forest and mountains in Alaska, making travel between many cities and villages only possible by plane or boat, solving murder mysteries would be a very difficult challenge. Of course on can not be sure aliens are not at work in this remote part of the world.

If there really did exist a Dr. Abigail Tyler in the real life events, we don't know it for sure. The Fourth Kind was a decent movie taking only 6.8 stars out of 10 on www.imbd.com. Personally seeing the Fourth Kind was entertaining but one time is enough for watching The Fourth Kind.
