UK Exhibition Venues

There are many excellent Exhibition Venues in the UK and several of these are of International standard, with facilities good enough to cater for thousands of visitors and also with good access for disabled people. Below we look at the main UK venues:

NEC Birmingham – Has some excellent events and is well located centrally in the UK and the city has an International airport. Exhibition organisers will also find the facilities excellent.

In Scotland the SECC is an excellent world-class venue which holds many International exhibitions and Glasgow in its own right is a lively city with plenty going on. The SECC is perhaps less conveniently located due to its location far North but with Glasgow airport access is made much easier.

The ExCel Centre in the Docklands, London is one of the newest UK exhibition venues and also one of the best. The ExCel centre has excellent facilities with several hotels nearby, plenty of parking and several halls. This centre is becoming more and more popular.

The GMEX/MICC is located in Manchester and is another high quality venue and in the UK this is on of the most central locations and very accessible by train, road and air.

The Bubble London Show: Kids Trade Show

The 2008 Bubble Show takes place very soon in London’s Olympia Hall 2 next month on the 2nd and 3rd of July 2008 and this is an show aimed at people who sell and deal with everything to do with children.

10th World Renewable Energy Conference and Event

The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) is the location for the 10th World Renewable Energy Conference and Event between the 19th and 25th of July this year.

Renewable Energy is an area which continues to grow in popularity as a subject and this event is an event that grows year on year. Now in its 10th year, the event this year has an impressive line of sponsors including:

Scottish Renewables, and a few other sponsors.

As well as a number of interesting exhibition stand displays, there will be a number of fascinating talks which will cover a wide range of subjects to do with Reneable Energy. FLOORSTYLE 2008 at the ExCel Centre, London

Any of you who are involved with Flooring in business will most likely have already signed up for the 'FLOORSTYLE LONDON 2008' trade show, which takes place in the ExCel Centre between the 29th June and 1st July 2008.

This is the first time this show has been held and the intention is that this will be the 1st of what will be an annual exhibition for everyone involved with 'Flooring', with a platform as it were, created for networking, sales and lead building. The organisers are hoping to attract several thousands trade visitors to this event and its is expected that the event will attract:

BBC Summer Exhibitions

The BBC Summer Exhibitions will very soon get underway with the two events, the BBC Gardeners’ World Live exhibition and the BBC Good Food Show exhibition. These two shows are both excellent shows in their own rights and together they mark the BBC Summer Festival.

Taking place between the 11th and 15th June 2008, these shows can be visited in the NEC Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England and are open to the public. Tickets are available through the official Summer Festival site and are priced at £19.50 fro AnyDay tickets (children get in cheaper).

The BBC Worlds Gardeners World Live is sure to be an excellent event with many famous Gardeners and celebrities already signed up to attend includining Alan Titchmarsh, Ben Fogle, Jon Craven and Monty Don. The Gardeners show will also showcase different areas including a:

The Allergy & Gluten Free Show 08

Sustainability Live 2008 - NEC Birmingham

Sustainability Live 2008 is one of those shows which naturally is growing year on year, as interest grows worldwide regards eco and sustainable living. This exhibition at Birmingham's NEC Exhibition venue is also a well attended event with in excess of 500 exhibitors likely to be present and with several thousand visitors expected to the event.

Pulse 2008 at Earl's Court Exhibition Centre, London

Arguably one of the most interesting exhibitions that takes place in London every year is the Pulse show and which this year occurs between the 1st and 3rd of June 2008.

The Pulse Show is very much aimed at the latest products, ideas and the latest of many product developments and ideas. Pulse is a show where innovation and fresh ideas are exhibited and where you can try new items or just shop around and explore. Exhibition Venues on the USA: (Part 2 - Orange County Convention Center)

Attending or organising an exhibition in Florida is fun place to have to organise an exhibition and the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) provides an excellent venue for exhibitions. The OCCC, which is presently celebrating its 25th opening anniversary, has a very active events and exhibitions calendar, with upcoming events including:

Kids International Expo
Commercial Construction Show

If work allows, attending or organising an exhibition in Orlando certainly opens up the opportunity for a very pleasant location in which to find yourself, if you do have a few spare days. Kennedy Space Centre and Universal Studios are two local attractions I would recommend.

The OCCC venue itself has a number of in-house services to help exhibitors and exhibition organisers. You can get help for example with all utility issues including the electrics for your stand. They also help with rigging, plumbing, Wi-Fi, parking and with hospitality help. The centre is well-organised and location wise, fairly centrally in Orlando. You will need a car to get to the centre but then again you need a car in most US cities to get around to venues.

Exhibition Venues on the USA: (Part 1 - Baltimore Convention Center)

Many of the large and international exhibitions, as well as taking place in Europe in cities such as London and Barcelona, often take place in venues in the United States. Below we take a look at the first in a series of blogs about the main exhibition centers in the States.

The 'Baltimore Convention Center' is an excellent venue for exhibitions with the centre well used to organising exhibitions on a grand scale and with its location and facilities. The BCC exhibition organisers and exhibitors help with:

The physical location of the center and Baltimore itself can be ideal for exhibition organisers and exhibitors from Europe. The city itself is located on the East coast of the U.S. and flights with airlines such as British Airways from Europe, tend to be similar to the cost as to NYC and Washington DC and with a similar flight time.

Exhibition Advice: Finding good Exhibitions Advice online is not always easy, with so much data online. One good new source though worth considering is the new Exhibition Advice e-Bulletin series, which will be split into 4-5 bulletins. You can also find exhibition advice on the main Clip Ltd site.

Education Based Exhibitions: If you are involved with education and based in or near to Manchester, England, do not forget that the Special Needs & The Early Years Primary Teaching Show. The show takes place between the 18th and 19th April 2008 at Manchester's GMEX arena, M2 3GX.

April Exhibitions: One of the exhibitions I am looking forward to this month in particular is the show at the Excel Centre between the 25 - 27th April 2008, A Place in the Sun Live! In Earls Court, London the www.londonbookfair.co.uk/ should also be good between the 14th and 16th April 2008. Further North, the Scottish Baby Show is also expected to be well attended at the http://www.secc.co.uk/ between the 25th and 27th April 2008.

Exhibitions in Ireland

As well as attending exhibitions in the UK, many of you may attend shows in Ireland and may be keen on keeping up-to-date with the trade and public exhibitions taking place in Ireland.
Finding information online about exhibition in Ireland is not so easy with only a few sites which seem to have information. The main exhibition venue in Ireland is the RDS, which is based on the edge of Dublin City Centre and which is located near to many hotels and excellent facilities.

The Toy Collectors' Fair 2008 at the NEC in May 2008

One show which I often attend and which is a lot of fun each year is the Toy Collectors' Fair, which this year takes place again in Birmingham's NEC on 4th May 2008. Open to teh public, this show is a lot fo fun and takes you back to your childhood with toys from past and present on view and to try out.

Organised by D-JFairs the Toy Fair travels across the UK and other destinations to catch this exhibition also include:

Admission for the show is £5.50, whilst anyone under 16 can enter for free and more than 500 exhibitors are expected. If you are interested in toys whether for fun or for business, this is an enjoyable show to attend.

London Book Fair 2008

London Book Fair 2008 is now only a few weeks away, with the event due to take place at the Earl's Court Exhibition Centre between the 14th and 16th of April. Book lovers will love this show and for people involved in the publishing business, this will be a grand opportunity to network and do business.

The range of exhibitors is extensive and International with every sector of publishing, retail, production and everyone including librarians who are in some way involved with books, expected to be present. There will be almost 500 companies represented and some examples include:

Most of the major travel guides book publishers
Many of the travel mapping publishers

Food & Drink Expo (Trade) at the NEC in Birmingham

The 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th of April are the dates to put in your diary if you are in any way involved with Food and Drink. If you are a restauranteer, a shop, store, bar, wholesaler or wine or beer expert or in any way involved in food or drink, this trade exhibition is well worth attending.

This years Food and Drink Expo is in Birmingham at the NEC in halls six and twenty and the list of exhibitors who have already signed is impressive, with representation from every area in the food and drink industry and from a number of exhibitors from the UK, European and other countries further afield.

British Travel Trade Fair

The 2008 British Travel Trade Fair is fast approaching with this exhibiton taking place at Birmingham's NEC on the 11th and 12th of March. Organised by Reed Travel Exhibitions, this is a trade event which attracts a large number of the big players in the British and Irish travel industry.

Companies and businesses you can expect to see present include the Welsh, Scottish, Irish and British tourism boards, The National Trust, DFDS Seaways Ltd and P&O Ferries to name but a few. There are in fact hundreds of exhibitions attending this travel trade show.

The event is a part of British Tourism Week which runs from the 10th through to the 18th March 2008, with hundreds of events taking place as part of British Tourism Week across the country: The British Travel Trade Fair acts as a centre point for the week. The EcoBuild Exhibitons at Earls Court (26 - 28th Feb 2008)

Green Living and Lifestyle is becoming more and more topical these days and the EcoBuild exhibition at Earls Court halls 1 and 2, London, between the 26th and 28th February 2008 is a show which is expected to be popular, interesting and an innovative show.

The Education Show at the NEC Exhibition Centre

Education is a subject which is important to us all and the Education Show, which is for the Trade, will bring together a large number of companies and businesses involved in the education sector. This show will take place at Birmingham's NEC Exhbition Centre between the 28th Feb and the 1st March 2008 in halls 11 and 12.

All levels of education will be covered with nursery, primary, secondary, college, university and self study all represented by a variety of companies. There will be many opportunities to discuss business with other trade companies including the chance for example for:

Health and Wellbeing at Work (Trade) Show 2008

The 'Health and Wellbeing at Work' trade show is being held this year at the Birmingham NEC between the 5th and 6th of March. This event is aimed at Human Resource Departments and health and safety at work. If you are an employer or working in HR, this show could be of great interest to you.

This is an interesting exhibition and when you consider the number of sicks days a company loses over a year, the idea of investing some time and possibly money in health and well being in the workplace, can be quite productive.

Jobs in the Exhibitions and events industry

Many of you already work in the exhibition and events industry or related services. Others of you may be looking to get into the business and make a career in the exhibition industry. There are ways you might wish to consider as you seek to move into an exhibition related job. Below we look at a few options.

Study a course such as the 'Event and Exhibition Management MA' which you can study with Birmingham City University. This type of course can be an excellent way to start off and you should get some interesting and valuable work experience during the course.

You can also consider applying direct to exhibition related companies. You can look for exhibition and events jobs for example, on sites such as clipdisplay.com on the Careers page (also Ireland exhibition jobs). You can also try different exhibition companies by doing a search for 'exhibition companies' and then clicking onto their careers link.

You might also want to try a site such as the excellent site http://www.reed.co.uk/ which tells you in real time the number of applicants and lets you search by industry and region etc. Good luck with your job hunting!

MCN London Motorcycle Show, Excel Centre (31 Jan to 03 Feb 2008)

It is that time of year again for London MotorCycle Show in the ExCel Centre between the 31st January and 3rd February 2008. This show is an excellent show for anyone with even a mild interest in motorcycles and motorbikes.

The London Motorcycle Show is both an exhibition and also a great show in its own right, with many performances and displays and stunt shows in the action area. Companies who are already signed up to be present and exhibiting include:
