Alison-Madueke Storms Lagos Filling Stations; Talks Tough

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, on Sunday blamed the current scarcity of petrol nationwide on the diversion of the commodity by some marketers.
Nigeria has been hit by its worst fuel scarcity in months, with the 36 states and the Federal Capital, Abuja, left without sufficient supply for weeks. Queues have returned to filling stations as motorists spend days before being able to buy fuel.
Mrs. Alison-Madueke made an unscheduled inspection of 15 filling stations in Surulere, Ikoyi, Ajah and Iponri areas of Lagos.
“We have enough fuel to serve the country, the challenge we are having is that, some drivers will not supply the lifted products to designated filling stations,” the minister said.

“Having gone round the state, it is not just the filling stations at Ikoyi that appeared to be without product, but other extreme locations like Ajah and other parts in Surulere. It appears there are lots of factors militating against efficient delivery of fuel.”
The minister said she had received reports that some marketers instructed their drivers to change the number plates of their trucks to make it difficult for tracking.
“I have directed the heads of the agencies – DPR, PPMC and PPPRA – to give me a clear picture and timeline in terms of numbers of trucks coming into Lagos,” she said.
She said, “there is diversion and I want some ideas about the diversion. If we can establish there is, I want to know how this is being done.

“They need to supply me how these trucks are being tracked because diversion is not easy to do.

“They will be sanctioned and I’m ready to publish names of anybody that may be involved.”

The minister assured Nigerians that the government has a reserve stock of petrol that could last the next two weeks. (NAN)

Bayelsa State Sues EFCC Over Unremitted Stolen Fund

The Bayelsa State Government has sued the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the commission’s alleged refusal remit back to it, funds recovered from its convicted ex-Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
In a suit now before Justice Ademola Adeniyi of the Federal High Court, Abuja, the state claimed that N1.4billion and another 1.3 million USD were recovered from Alamieyesiegha ‎on his conviction by the Federal High Court, in Lagos.
In a writ of summons issued against EFCC and its Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Lamorde, the state urged the court to among others, declare as corrupt acts, the refusal of the commission to remit back to it, the recovered funds.
It also urged the court to declare that the decision by the EFCC to continue “trading with the funds by way of funds placement/fixed deposits is an act of corruption and an economic crime contrary to sections 6 and 7 of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004.

Nigerian Trader Arrested For Opening 25 Accounts With One Bank

A 39-year-old trader, Okonkwo Nwachukwu, has been arrested by the Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, after he was discovered to have opened 25 savings accounts with Zenith Bank, under different identities. The SFU spokesperson, DSP Ngozi Isintume-Agu, said the SFU Commissioner of Police had received a petition from the bank on February 12, 2014.

“The petition alleged that Nwachukwu had appeared at the Amuwo Odofin branch of Zenith Bank to open a savings account and presented an already completed savings account opening package with the name, Obiozor Ifeanyi, and identified himself as such with a National Identity Card.
“While the Customer Service office was checking the documents, Nwachukwu allegedly went to the Marketing Unit and collected another savings account opening package and completed same with another name, Ogueji Nnamdi. He allegedly returned to the Customer Service Desk and presented same for account opening with another National Identity Card bearing Ogueji Nnamdi.”

The Customer Service Officer reportedly became suspicious with the unsuspecting Nwachukwu’s attempt to open another savings account within minutes with another identity. He then searched the bank’s system with Nwachukwu’s phone number and it was discovered that he already possessed about 25 savings accounts at various branches under different names.

The statement added, “It was further alleged that Nwachukwu also operated a corporate account with number 1012000129, belonging to Chukon Integrated Limited, and he also identified himself as Okonkwo Nwachukwu when he opened the said account.

“A native of Okija Ihiala LGA of Anambra State, Nwachukwu is into cargo business and owns an office at Block 4, Shop 169 A.P.T. Market Trade Fair, Lagos.”

Nwachukwu reportedly explained that the multiple accounts he opened was to enable him run his business successfully. He said he had N50,000 each in 15 different accounts, while the remaining ones had N20,000, N10,000 and N5,000 respectively.

He allegedly blamed the cashless policy of the CBN for his actions, saying that he was not permitted to withdraw a huge sum of money in one account and as such, he was advised to open multiple accounts to spread his money.

The police said the action was meant to defraud financial institutions and unsuspecting members of the public.

The suspect alleged that the National Identity Card and PHCN bills used in opening his multiple accounts were forged by one Pepper who is at large.

He also claimed that he had come back from China on January 27, 2014 and started the multiple account opening from February 5, to 7, 2014 when he was apprehended.

SFU Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zubairu Muazu, commended the management of Zenith Bank for their discovery and advised other banks to be at alert to such scammers “who work as a syndicate to defraud members of the public.

“Investigation is ongoing to unravel more about the suspect’s motive behind the multiple account opening,” Isintume-Agu added.

2 days later, no sign of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370

Despite the efforts of 34 planes, 40 ships and search crews from ten countries, officials have not found any sign of a Malaysia Airlines flight that went missing two days ago.
"Unfortunately, ladies and gentlemen, we have not found anything that appear to be objects from the aircraft, let alone the aircraft," Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, director general of the Malaysian civil aviation department, told reporters Monday.
So, more than 48 hours later, the mysteries surrounding Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 -- and the true identifies of some of its passengers -- remain intact.
Rahman discounted media reports that a plane door had been spotted.

The oil slick stretched between 6 and 9 miles -- and is being lab-tested.
No emergency signal has been detected by any search vessels or aircraft. And family members of passengers are being told to prepare for the worst.

"For the aircraft to go missing just like that ... as far as we are concerned, we are equally puzzled as well," Rahman said.

"We have to find the aircraft."

Owner of Stolen Passport Speaks

One of the men whose passport was stolen and used by a passenger on the missing flight, 37 year old Italian tourist Luigi Maraldi, had a press conference at a police station in Phuket island, southern Thailand yesterday and explained how his passport was stolen in July 2013 on the island of Phuket. Thankfully, he reported his passport stolen and police have the record.
Yesterday, Luigi's father explained the original was stolen after his son used it to hire a motorbike.

'Last summer he was in Thailand and handed over the passport so he could hire a scooter but when he brought it back, they said they had already given it back to someone else, so he reported it stolen. The whole thing is a mix up - we have no idea who the person was that used my son's passport. The first I knew something had happened was when my son rang from Thailand on Saturday morning to say he was alive.
The owner of the other stolen passport is 30 year old Austrian citizen Christian Kozel, who only discovered his name was on the passenger manifest when police officers turned up at his home in Salzburg at the weekend.

'I was pretty shocked when I saw them at my door, and was relieved to find out that although I was dead, at least it was only on paper.' Christian said.He also reported his passport stolen in 2012. The passport was stolen in the same part of Thailand

50 gunmen attack Enugu government house

According to reports, 50 gunmen who arrived in 7 buses attempted to attack Enugu State Government House in the early hours of yesterday Saturday March 8th but didn't succeed as security personnel attached to the Government House engaged them in a shoot out, preventing them from gaining entry.
One gunman was killed and three others arrested in the shootout that lasted till 4:30am but no security personnel was killed or injured, this is according to the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sullivan Chime, Mr. Chukwudi Achife, who confirmed the incident.

“They carried flags with different inscriptions and insignia belonging to some secret cults. They told the security men to open the gate claiming that they were at the government house on a protest. Sensing that there was danger, the security operatives rushed out only to see many of them with machetes, giving orders to their members to move into the government house."

The President yesterday and some other top government officials in the country escaped an air mishap at the Minna Airport in Niger State when a presidential jet developed a technical fault, while they were aboard.

The presidential jet, Nigerian Air Force 001 (5N-FGT), had earlier brought the president to the state to attend a PDP rally before heading back to the airport after the rally for a trip to Sokoto, but when the president and other top government officials boarded the jet, the jet refused to move. They were there for several minutes and all efforts made by the crew members and engineers proved abortive.
While this was going on, Vice-President Namadi Sambo; President of the Senate, David Mark; all PDP governors, members of the National Assembly and members of the Federal Executive Council were watching under the scorching sun.
They were later conveyed into the Jet that brought the vice president, but only a few could fly with the president because the jet was smaller. Namadi Sambo later joined the senate president in a smaller presidential jet that flew him down, before leaving the state.

35-Year Old Nigerian In Thailand Arrested For Drugs

Godwin Chinedu Agbarakwe, a 35-year old Nigerian who has been staying in Thailand illegally since 2012 has been arrested for drugs. Godwin was stopped by Tourist Police men on the 24th of February, 2014 and after a cavity search, they found drugs hidden in his anus.

Obesere speaks on rape allegation, tells his side of the story!

Obesere has finally spoken - he says he didn't exactly rape Olanike Olaiya but admitted that they had sex!
During a programme - Wazobia - on MITV today, the fuji artiste said Ms. Olaiya cooked up the allegation to extort ten million naira from him.
Read his explanation below:

“She visited me at home at night and it was too late for her to return to her place. I won’t lie about the fact that we had intimate encounter. But I did not rape her. And it was about four or five days after she visited me that she went to the police to allege that I raped her.

“I went to the police station but when when I realized that the officers there were favouring her as a complainant, I requested them to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba.
“There, they asked her for evidence that she was raped. There was no injury on her. Her clothes were intact. When she couldn’t produce evidence, the police advised her not to attempt to blackmail me. They advised her to gently approach me and ask for help if she wanted anything.

“When she first called me to say she was feeling sick, I called the woman who introduced her to me to take her to hospital. But Alhaja said nothing was wrong with her, that she was only trying to extort me. Alhaja said she planned to blackmail me into parting with between five and ten million naira.

“I can tell you my enemies are behind the allegation. They are trying to bring me down. But they won’t succeed because I’m a child of God, a messenger of God. Once God remains behind me, nobody can bring me down.

“I’m a responsible man, a reliable man. But I’m human and therefore fallible. But I’m not losing sleep about this allegation. I’m undeterred and I’m going about my business because I have no doubt that the truth will prevail.” He explained.

Obesere Rape Update: They Are Threaten To Kill Me- Lady Cries Out

The Lady Fuji musician Obesere allegedly raped has cried put. The 29-Year old business woman says ever since the press published her story yesterday, she has been receiving life threaten calls from them. I am highly frightened, she said.

There were indications, yesterday, that the case involving popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Abass Akande, also known as Obesere, arrested for allegedly raping a 29-year-old business woman, Miss Olanike Olaiya, in his Okota residence may have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.

Sources told Vanguard, yesterday, that the embattled musician preferred the SCID to the Isolo Police division because the DPO had insisted on the matter going to court.

Normally, it is the Divisional Police Officer at Isolo Division, Aminu Ibrahim, that should have ordered the transfer of the case to SCID for further investigations.

But Obesere was alleged to have used his contacts in the police to have the case transferred to SCID.

A police source also disclosed that Obesere found it difficult to pressurize the DPO at Isolo into striking out the matter or persuade the victim to accept a settlement.

The source, who craved anonymity, also said Obesere contacted some top citizens to wade into the matter by persuading the DPO to soft-pedal on the matter but they backed down when they discovered that the police have incriminating evidence against the musician.

Victim relocates to Sagamu for treatment

Meantime, the victim, Olaiya, told Vanguard yesterday that she had relocated to her home town, Sagamu in Ogun State, where she is currently receiving treatment for the rape incident.

Olaiya, who spoke with Vanguard on the telephone, said: “As I speak with you, I am in Sagamu, my home town, where I have been receiving traditional treatment since the incident occurred.

I bled for more than two weeks —Victim

“I bled for more than two weeks after Alhaji Obesere raped me and inserted his ring into my private part. The incident occurred on February 12, 2013 and I have spent a lot of money treating myself.

“The DPO, Isolo Police division, took pity on me and refused to give in to Obesere’s pressure to strike out the case and God will bless him for that.
“But last week I was informed that the case had been transferred to the SCID and my Investigating Police Office, IPO, at Isolo asked me to come to the station on Tuesday for the transfer.

They threatened to kill me
“Afterwards, they started threatening me. The IPO, Alhaji Obesere, and some of his brothers, who were present there, asked me to stop the journalists from publishing my story and if I don’t, I will be a dead person.
“I was so frightened when they said this and each time my phone rang someone would pick it up to know who was calling.

“Later, they discovered I wasn’t going to break, then they started begging me and promised to take care of me. Alhaji Obesere even said he was going to take me to the best hospital for treatment.
“At the end, I rose to leave and they offered to drop me in my place. The IPO also insisted that I should follow them. Instead of taking me to my area, they took me to Obesere’s house and the woman who introduced me to him was also there.
“While I was with them I alerted the police at Isolo and told them where I was.
“But yesterday, they called after they saw the publication and started threatening again to kill me.
“I am highly terrified, that was why I travelled back to my home to get some treatment.”

The 33-year-old reality star and her fiance, Kanye West, 36 have already set a date to wed. Kanye and Kim will be getting married on the 24th of May, 2014 in Paris according to UsWeekly. May 24 is a Saturday but guests will be flown in several days before the date.
