A New Place on the WWW for Song-writers, Videographers and Script Writers

2011-05-31T09:38:00.000-07:00

Attention song-writers, photographers and videographers:

Come and publish your work on ThePenCentral!!

After much consideration we have decided to include a platform on ThePenCentral for singer/songwriters, photographers and videographers at the launch. We had originally planned to add the other artists as we develop the site, but have decided that the site will be far more interesting and exciting with a mix of artistic mediums. Showcase your work and get noticed on ThePenCentral.com.

2011-05-31T09:33:00.000-07:00

I am excited to announce the upcoming launch of a new, unique web site. Programming is in full swing for ThePenCentral.com which will launch in the next 3 months.

ThePenCentral will be unique among writer's web sites in that our writers will be compensated, as I see it, more fairly than on most writer's sites. There will be an Adsense share with writers, as well as payment for premier content. In addition, articles chosen as feature articles will earn bonuses.

For those of us who are sick of seeing annoying pop-ups on top of our hard work, (which slow down computers and annoy readers into leaving the site,) we will respect the integrity of the written words and avoid these obnoxious ads on ThePenCentralElite.com.

We hope to launch the first version of ThePenCentral.com in late summer. We will be looking for a few excellent articles to be designated feature articles, and additional articles which will be published on the premier page. Also, we will open submissions to ThePenCentral.com, to all registered members at that time.

As ThePenCentralE-lite grows and gains respect and recognition for the high quality of our articles, we will launch postings for web site owners who are constantly looking for excellent web site content. In addition, should a buyer wish to use one of our published articles, the fee for using our writer's work, will be shared with ThePenCentral author who penned the article.

All rights to any article posted on ThePenCentral pages will remain the property of the original author with few exception that we will outline later.

Authors will also have the right to remove their articles from the site, should they wish to do so, after any exclusivity time period has lapsed. As a writer, I have found it unacceptable that some writer's sites will have usage of my work forever once I submitted work to the page! I cannot choose to remove my work from those sites. Writers with ThePenCentral will have the freedom to remove their work from our site at will. (Take that, Helium and Examiner.com!)

This announcement is not meant to be a legal document, but because I know that many of my fellow web-writers will want prior notice to the launch, this is an early announcement, which will be followed by a legal agreement between ThePenCentral.com and the submitting author at the time of registration to ThePenCentral.com site.

I know that many of you will want to be involved in this exciting new web writer's concept, from the ground up, and I look forward to seeing you around on ThePenCentral.

Hot New SF Restaurant

2010-11-20T16:02:00.000-08:00

I've heard from friends that Chez Spencer in the Mission is the new hot spot for those who love French food in a fun atmosphere. We will go there on Friday night and let you know! It's hard to find great restaurants in SF that aren't over-priced, over-rated or both....Like Michael Meno's at the Westin, (the old St Francis Hotel on the square.) That was last year's day-after-Thanksgiving disaster.

We are staying at Petite Auberge, a bed and breakfast just above Union Square. It sounds romantic and charming so I'll tell you about that one next week, too!

Are you getting ready for Thanksgiving? I am very excited to go to my Mom's where my sister, her girls and I will do the dinner. Jeffery, of course, will be on the mashies...he's the best mashed-potato guy ever; mine are horrible but quite usable if you happen to be hanging wallpaper...

I will be launching my new web page for writers in the coming weeks. I hope that it will be a special place where writers can gather to post their work and actually profit from their efforts. It's my own little personal revolt to those of us who feel we are used and abused on-line. Stay tuned for more info!

Hugs and love,

The Fun of Flying; Why Air Travel Can Make You Crazy

Whether you love to travel or need to travel for business, getting to the point when you actually board the plane has become a fiasco. Then, the fun begins as the plane lifts off. No food, maybe a drink, no more pillow or blanket; bare bones is now the airline norm.

The little White & Brick House on the Corner- Foreclosed.

With the economy in the dumps, millions of homes have gone into foreclosure in the US. What happened, how it happened, and who or what is responsible, meant nothing to this economist/writer when she was hit by the reality of the families behind the numbers. Read More

Dating Abuse Stops Here

From my Facebook Grief page, Lynne Russell has established a new group in support of teenage girls in abusive relationships. Lynne's teenage daughter, Siobhan, was murdered by her her ex-boyfriend on Easter Sunday, 2009. In memory of Siobhan, Lynne has begun a group called DASH--Dating Abuse Stops Here. You can read about DASH and please stop by the DASH web site. We are all thinking of you, Lynne, and your beautiful daughter.

Beautiful Giverny

2010-10-25T11:02:00.000-07:00

Giverny, only a 45 minute train ride from Paris, was the home of Monet and the inspiration for his famous Water Lily paintings. A photographer's dream!

Have you ever heard a baby’s name and thought, "That is the coolest name!" While visiting my family, my sister mentioned a friend who had a little 18-month-old named, "Prisim." Read More!

Sammy, my Cat does love my garden angels. She does need some prayers from above because if she doesn't stop expressing her displeasure at having noisy kids in the house in very explicit ways, she is going to be with the angels soon!

If Bristol Palin isn't kicked off Dancing With the Stars this Week, I will literally scream! Check out this video! Good Lord, a gorilla suit and two left feet; at least they got the monkey suit right...Check this out! How sad is that; it made Florence Henderson look like Cyd Charise!

Well, it's that time of year again; the frost is on the pumpkin...and if you are related to Jeff's Mom in any way, you will know the next line to that limrick!

Paris was a Blast!

2010-10-11T16:08:00.000-07:00

Here are a few photos from my Paris trip.

Edith Piaf's Grave Above

Pere Lachaise is the most beautiful cemetery I've ever seen. No wonder all the cool dead people are buried here!!

Jim Morrison's Grave Above

I would be willing to bet that more people have visited Jim's grave than went to his concerts when he was alive. He is most definitely the most popular guy here!

The Eiffel Tower Above shot from on the Seine

It just never gets old!

Paris Bag Lady Above

The newest most cool bags. Brigitte Bardot has her own new line of bags; and they are gorgeous....and pricey.

Why Travel Now? Why Not!

2010-04-19T12:18:00.000-07:00

It stands to reason that fewer people are traveling right now because more and more people aren’t willing to put up with the hassles. The law of supply and demand kicks in here and tells us that as less people travel, the more the travel industry has to lower its prices or at least hold frequent sales.

I recently bought First Class tickets from San Francisco to London for less than half the price that one would expect to pay. Since the tickets were on Virgin Atlantic, the king of first class service in my humble opinion, I was completely delighted.

About Me

2008-01-06T12:52:00.002-08:00

For as far back as I can remember, I have chosen the written word as my mode of expression. I have been writing all of my life, in one way or another.
I used to say that one day I would write a novel. In 1993, I followed through on that promise to myself. Since then, my love of travel has nudged me toward travel writing, as well. I'm now working on a travel related book that I plan to self-publish.
I've worked in finance, television broadcast and as a homemaker; but writing is more about who I am rather than what I do.
I have one fabulous son and three perfect grandchildren. These wonderful souls, and my husband of 34 years, are the great loves of my life.
It sounds odd to say that I only have one child. We lost our beautiful, talented, thirty-year-old daughter in March. I plan to document her life here, as a way to ensure that she is remembered. One day I will write a book about our daughter's life; it will be my way of helping our six year old grandson remember his mother and the few years they spent together.
I believe that life is worth living, even when your perfect life encounters horrible tragedy. They say "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger; I'll get back to you on that.
