Ritesh Agarwal is an Indian billionaire entrepreneur and the founder and Chief executive officer of Oyo Rooms. He became the world's second youngest billionaire in 2020. Agarwal is also a recipient of the Business World Young Entrepreneur Award.

Ritesh Agarwal was born in Bissam Cuttack town of Odisha state, India and brought up in Titilagarh. At the age of 13, he started selling SIM cards. Agarwal started a budget accommodation portal, Oravel Stays, for booking budget hotels. By September 2018, the company raised $1 billion. In July 2019 it was reported that Agarwal purchased $2 billion in shares in the company, tripling his stake. As of February 2020, he is the second youngest self-made billionaire in the world.

- Controversies :

Agarwal signed agreements through his company OYO with hotel owners in the US in which the buildings of the owners will be rebranded under the Oyo name in exchange of compensation and guaranteed revenue, but left out the information that Oyo is not authorised to operate franchise business in the state of California. For which in March 2019, Oyo was fined $200,000 by California regulators. The company also received a cease and desist order from Washington, after regulators found Oyo made offers to many hotel owners and managers, without proper registration.

In September 2020, a case was lodged against Agarwal in Dera Bassi by a Chandigarh-based businessman for fraud and conspiracy under IPC 420 (cheating) 120 B (criminal conspiracy).

Oyo faced backlash from 10,000 hotel owners in India. According to them, Oyo takes up half or more of the revenues through fees that are not disclosed at the time when the hotels join Oyo. According to an October 2019 report, police cases were filed against Oyo by hotel operators in Bangalore, Chikmagalur, and other cities of Karnataka accusing Agarwal of fraud. The latter, however, successfully appealed for a stay order on one case in Bangalore.

Alexander Graham Bell (March 3, 1847 to August 2, 1922) was a Scottish-born scientist and inventor best known for inventing the first working telephone in 1876 and founding the Bell Telephone Company in 1877. Bell's education was largely received through numerous experiments in sound and the furthering of his father's work on Visible Speech for the deaf. Bell worked with Thomas Watson on the design and patent of the first practical telephone. In all, Bell held 18 patents in his name alone and 12 that he shared with collaborators.

Bell’s mother Eliza home-schooled her son and instilled an infinite curiosity of the world around him. He received one year of formal education in a private school and two years at Edinburgh’s Royal High School.

Though a mediocre student, Bell displayed an uncommon ability to solve problems. At age 12, while playing with a friend in a grain mill, he noticed the slow process of husking the wheat grain. He went home and built a device with rotating paddles and nail brushes that easily removed the husks from the grain.

Young Alexander was groomed early to carry on in the family business, but his headstrong nature conflicted with his father’s overbearing manner. Seeking a way out, Alexander volunteered to care for his grandfather when he fell ill in 1862. The elder Bell encouraged young Alexander and instilled an appreciation for learning and intellectual pursuits. By age 16, Alexander had joined his father in his work with the deaf and soon assumed full charge of his father’s London operations.

On one of his trips to North America, Alexander’s father decided it was a healthier environment and decided to move the family there. At first, Alexander resisted, for he was establishing himself in London. He eventually relented after both his brothers died of tuberculosis. In July, 1870, the family settled in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. There, Alexander set up a workshop to continue his study of the human voice.

Alexander Graham Bell began work on a device that would allow for the telegraph transmission of several messages set to different frequencies in 1871, upon moving to Boston. He found financial backing through local investors Thomas Sanders and Gardiner Hubbard. Between 1873 and 1874, Bell spent long days and nights trying to perfect the harmonic telegraph. During his experiments, he became interested in another idea, transmitting the human voice over wires.

Bell’s diversion frustrated his benefactors, and Thomas Watson, a skilled electrician, was hired to refocus Bell on the harmonic telegraph. But Watson soon became enamored with Bell’s idea of voice transmission and the two created a great partnership with Bell being the idea man and Watson having the expertise to bring Bell’s ideas to reality.

Through 1874 and 1875, Bell and Watson labored on both the harmonic telegraph and a voice transmitting device. Though at first frustrated by the diversion, Bell’s investors soon saw the value of voice transmission and filed a patent on the idea. For now the concept was protected, but the device still had to be developed. In 1876, Bell and Watson were finally successful. Legend has it that Bell knocked over a container of transmitting fluid and shouted, “Mr. Watson, come here. I want you!” The more likely explanation was Bell heard a noise over the wire and called to Watson. In any case, Watson heard Bell’s voice through the wire and thus, he received the first telephone call.

With this success, Alexander Graham Bell began to promote the telephone in a series of public demonstrations. At the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, in 1876, Bell demonstrated the telephone to the Emperor of Brazil, Dom Pedro, who exclaimed, “My God, it talks!” Other demonstrations followed, each at a greater distance than the last.

The Bell Telephone Company was organized on July 9, 1877. In January 1915, Bell was invited to make the first transcontinental phone call. From New York, he spoke with his former associate Thomas Watson in San Francisco.

By all accounts, Alexander Graham Bell was not a businessman and by 1880 began to turn business matters over to Hubbard and others so he could pursue a wide range of inventions and intellectual pursuits. In 1880, he established the Volta Laboratory, an experimental facility devoted to scientific discovery.

In the remaining years of his life, Bell devoted a lot of time to exploring flight, starting with the tetrahedral kite in 1890s. In 1907, Bell formed the Aerial Experiment Association with Glenn Curtiss and several other associates. The group developed several flying machines, including the Silver Dart. The Silver Dart was the first powered machine flown in Canada. He later worked on hydrofoils and set a world record for speed for this type of boat.

Upon getting married, Alexander and his wife Mable traveled to Europe demonstrating the telephone; upon their return to the United States, Bell was summoned to Washington D.C. to defend his telephone patent from lawsuits. Others claimed they had invented the telephone or had conceived of the idea before Bell. Over the next 18 years, the Bell Company faced over 550 court challenges, including several that went to the Supreme Court, but none were successful.

Even during the patent battles, the company grew. Between 1877 and 1886, over 150,000 people in the U.S. owned telephones. Improvements were made on the device including the addition of a microphone, invented by Thomas Edison, which eliminated the need to shout into the telephone to be heard.

He believes that we might have privacy but we should make it open if it helps others to gain the equality. Everyone should be treated equally. Even the gay marriage should be treated equally. For him equality is the fundamental right of everybody.

Tim cook believes in his intuition very much. It might happen to everybody at all times in all of our lives when we feel our intuition is just appropriate. Some of the important decision of our life, we cannot take with the help of brain. But our intuition helps us to guide us while taking the decision. As per him, everybody should listen to his intuition so that he can take a better decision.

In the year 1998, Jan Koum was hired by Yahoo Inc. who later became the co-founder of WhatsApp along with Brian Acton.

The two worked together for many years. While working with Yahoo Inc, Acton invested in dot com bubble in the year 2000 and lost millions. In 2007, both he and Jan Koum decided to leave Yahoo Inc. They started travelling South America for almost one year. Acton was not a stranger to failure but his hard work speaks a lot about the value of vision and tenacity.

After a high-profile boardroom battle at the Tata Group, that lasted for over two months, Natarajan Chandrasekaran has been named the new chairman of Tata Sons. Fondly called ‘Chandra’ by people at the Bombay House, the Tata Group’s headquarters, Chandrasekaran is a true insider.

The 53-year-old joined TCS in 1987, rose through the ranks to become CEO in 2009, and and is credited for its spectacular turnaround. Today TCS is the most successful Indian IT company, valued at $67 billion – that’s 60% of the group’s market value and 70% of Tata Son’s revenue.

It is an incredible achievement, to start off at the very bottom and manage to reach the pinnacle of corporate success. But it’s something that the Chandrasekaran family is used to.

Natarajan Chandrasekaran was born in an agricultural family in the village of Mohanur in Tamil Nadu. One of six children, Chandrasekaran’s father was a lawyer but when his grandfather died, his father had to look after the family farm that grew bananas, rice and sugarcane. A man who believed in the power of hard work, Chandrasekaran’s father took the time to teach his son lessons in frugality, honesty and perseverance that held him in good stead throughout his life.

As a kid, Chandrasekaran and his brothers would walk 3 km everyday to their Tamil-medium government school. For his senior secondary exams, he switched to an English-medium. After passing the 10th grade, he moved to Trichy (in Tamil Nadu) to study further. He later recalled, in an interview, how the experience of staying away from home and family was a big change for him.

After earning a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Applied Sciences from the Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Chandrasekaran returned home and stayed for six months to to see whether he would happy taking up agriculture as a profession. After four or five months had passed, however, he realised that he was not cut out for agriculture and considered becoming a chartered accountant. Unfortunately, by then, he had missed the CA admissions for the academic year.

Chandrasekaran then decided to apply for a Master’s in Computer Applications from the Regional Engineering College of Trichy in 1986. Little did he suspect that this decision would go on to change his life. In the final year of his Master’s programme, he took up a project with TCS, and never looked back—starting off as a software programmer and rising to the helm of the company where he learnt the ropes of the IT business.

He never attended any management school nor does he read much management literature. He learnt about team building and customer management through his work that took him to different places for different projects. In 1999, he started the firm’s e-business unit. Under him, it grew it to an over-500 million dollar segment in just four-and-a-half years.

It was here that Chandrasekaran was groomed under the watchful eyes of his mentor, S. Ramadorai (the then-CEO of TCS). Thanks to his mentor’s guidance and his own business acumen, Chandrasekaran’s rise in TCS was fast.

One of the greatest scientists living on the planet today, Stephen Hawking needs no introduction. With science geeks and the non-scientific population of the world, he is equally popular, widely known and often compared to scientists like Einstein and Galileo. A theoretical cosmologist and physicist, Stephen Hawking is the director of research at the Centre For Theoretical Cosmology in the University of Cambridge today.

Hawking is most popular for his theories in the field of cosmology, in which he uses Einstein’s relativity theory and quantum mechanics. His book, A brief history of Time in which he explains his cosmology theories in a very simple manner understandable by the layman had been the bestseller for a really long time of 237 weeks. This book was what made him more reachable to the non-scientific masses along with the fact that he makes constant guest appearances on popular TV shows such as The Simpsons and Star Trek.

Stephen Hawking was born to the also-highly-educated Frank and Isobel Hawking both of who went to Oxford. His father Frank specialized in Medicine and Isobel, in Philosophy and Economics. Stephen, who was one among four of kids of the Hawking couple was surprisingly not very good at academics as he was at learning things in general. Although teachers often dismissed him off for his poor performance in academics, they knew that there was a hidden genius in him, which is probably why he was nicknamed ‘Einstein’ while in school.

He was expected to take on the same path as his father in medicinal research but did not find biology interesting as he thought it was ‘too inexact’. Instead, he studied physics at University of Oxford and later, Astronomy and Cosmology at the Trinity Hall, Cambridge. During his days in Cambridge, Hawking was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) which would progress as he grew older. Today, he still communicates effectively despite the disease using a system known as the equalizer. Although he can only communicate with about 15 words per a minute because of his disease, he’s authored books, given lectures and written a lot of scientific papers.

Stephen Hawking is also known for bearing the position of Lucasian Professor of Mathematics, a title previously held by Sir Isaac Newton. He had also won numerous awards and honours for his work. He had received nearly twelve honorary degrees and is a fellow of The Royal Society and a member of The US National Academy of Sciences. In 2009, President Obama awarded him with the highest honorary award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom award.

Hawking in one of his speeches, famously said that the future of human race is in the outer space and not on the earth. He also thinks that space tourism should be supported. And if the day comes for something like that to happen, there will be one man who will be remembered even in the outer space. That would be Stephen Hawking.

Who could have imagined that a simple young man from an upper middle class family in India would rise up to the global forum, finding a breakthrough web browser? Hotmail service, the world’s second largest Email service provider that took the world by storm is the brain child of Sabeer Bhatia, a man with simple insight into human needs that can be catered by technology.

Sabeer was born into a working class background hailing from Chandigarh, one of the best planned cities of the sub-continent. After graduating in engineering, he went on a foreign transfer from BITS to complete his Masters in Stanford University.

Unlike most of the engineering graduates who fly to the United States with the sole dream of settling down with a job, a condo and a dog, Sabeer looked beyond. He thought about the usability of technology in the mankind’s everyday life. During his stint working as a hardware engineer for Apple Inc. Sabeer understood the premise of the emergence of the new world. He was astonished as to how much a web browser could help, enabling people access the internet with a difference.

This thought precisely led him to start Hotmail along with his colleague Jack Smith in 1996, the time when the world was just about getting used to the ways of the virtual life. Hotmail was an instant phenomenon, with over 369 million verified email users to this day. People still bank on the Hotmail service, despite the fact that Gmail holds the strongest position as the front runner all over the globe.

Bhatia simply did not call it a rest. He had more plans with technology and ideas that could change the way people saw the use of internet. He led Hotmail service to a meteoric rise, until it was acquired by none other than Bill Gates’ Microsoft Corporation in 1998.

He continued to work with Microsoft, and later kick started another venture with them called Arzoo Inc. This was the very first of E Commerce companies the world had witnessed.The man on the run started another free messaging service called JaxtrSMS. The messaging service was started with a mission to change the way SMS worked, the same way as Hotmail changed the way people looked at Emails. The venture, however was not a very great success.

Sabeer continues to work on newer ideas, constantly trying to bring ground breaking inventions to the world. Despite all the success and attention that he had received, Sabeer had his share of personal setbacks in the form of a divorce that happened in the year 2008. He continues to rediscover stuff on the internet. Bhatia’s latest mission is an email collaboration software that he invested in, called ccZen.

Sabeer Bhatia is one of the names from India that puts the out of the box ahead on the world podium. Till date, younger engineers aspire to be the next Sabeer Bhatia in the making.

Now Stephen was overcome by a drinking problem which was caused by the immense anxiety and tension he took upon himself in order to write a great story. In 1977, his book ‘The Shining’ got published. After this Stephen’s work began to be recognised and receive mild appreciation. By then he had overcome his drinking problem successfully.In the 1970’s Stephen started writing the incredibly popular ‘The Dark Tower’ series. This book was immensely successfully and brought Stephen into the limelight. In 1980, his book ‘Firestarter’ sold 100,000 copies. And his popularity grew further as his book ‘Christine’ sold 250,000 copies. Stephen kept coming back with more and more stories in the same genre to satisfy his ever increasing fan base. The release of the book ‘The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Tree’ bought him more success.

Steven ‘Allan’ Spielberg was born on December 18, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His mother was a concert pianist and his father was an electrical engineer. He was attracted to films at a very young age itself. By the time he finished his teens he had made a number of 8 mm films mostly featuring World War II stories that his father used to tell him. Other than that he also liked to make adventure movies which he shot in nearby parks and restaurants.

At the age of 13, he set off with his father’s movie camera and made a 40-minute film called’ Escape to Nowhere’ based on a battle in East Africa. At 16 years of age he made a sci-fi adventure film called ‘Firelight’ on a $500 budget. In 1965, he graduated from Saratoga High School. Then he went on to attend University of Southern California where he studied Theatre, Film and Television. He was unsuccessful there and thus joined Universal Studios as a seven-day-week unpaid intern.Here he worked in the editing department but his name was never mentioned in the credits. He went on to make a 26-minute short film called Amblin’ in 1968 which was also released in few theatres. This film was liked by the top management at Universal Studios and he was signed to direct a full-length film. Due to various complications the film didn’t take off but soon he was hired to direct a segment for the first episode of television series ‘Night Gallery’.

He got a chance to direct many short TV films before he made his debut film ‘Sugarland Express’. Though the film was not a critical or commercial success, he was praised for the cinematography. In 1975, he got a chance to direct the film ‘Jaws’ which would go on to turn his fledgling career upside down. This movie was a blockbuster hit collecting more than $450 million at the worldwide box office. This movie had lots of delays and the budget went haywire but Spielberg’s calm and confident demeanour helped him complete the film successfully. In 1977, he went on to make ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’. This film achieved both critical and commercial acclaim. Next he joined hands with his close friend George Lucas and went on to direct ‘Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark’. Schultz’s enthusiasm for opening the coffee shops in Starbucks stores wasn’t shared by the company’s founders. New Starbucks store was an instant success, bringing in hundreds of people per day but the Starbucks owners refused to roll it out company-wide. Frustrated and disappointed Schultz decided to leave Starbucks in 1985 to open a coffee bar chain of his own, Il Giornale.

Schultz new venture Il Giornale quickly garnered success as the store offered an ice cream in addition to coffee and played opera music in the background. Within 2 years with the help of investors, Schultz purchased Starbucks for US$3.8 million and merges it with Il Giornale. Pelé was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento on October 23, 1940 in Três Corações, Brazil, the first child of João Ramos and Dona Celeste. Named after Thomas Edison and nicknamed "Dico," Pelé moved with his family to the city of Bauru as a young boy. João Ramos, better known as "Dondinho," struggled to earn a living as a soccer player, and Pelé grew up in poverty. Still, he developed a rudimentary talent for soccer by kicking a rolled-up sock stuffed with rags around the streets of Bauru. The origin of the "Pelé" nickname is unclear, though he recalled despising it when his friends first referred to him that way. As an adolescent, Pelé joined a youth squad coached by Waldemar de Brito, a former member of the Brazilian national soccer team. De Brito eventually convinced Pelé's family to let the budding phenom leave home and try out for the Santos professional soccer club when he was 15.

Eldrick Tont Woods was born on the 30th of December, 1975, in Cypress, California. He was nicknamed Tiger in honor of his father’s friend. He has three half-siblings through his father’s previous marriage.

Woods is of mixed ancestry. His father was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was introduced to golf when he was just two by his father who had himself been an amateur golfer.

Career:

After becoming a professional golfer in 1996 he was immediately offered deals with Nike, Inc., and Titleist as he had become famous because of his collegiate career. He won the Masters, his first major tournament in 1997.

He had a great start to the new millennium with six consecutive wins in 2000. One of his victories for the year was the U.S. open where he broke or equaled nine records.

The next two seasons were not that great for him. However, his form returned in 2005 and he won six official PGA Tour money events. He closed the 2006 season with 54 wins.

Woods was enthusiastically welcomed back to golf in 2009. He did not disappoint his fans and performed well winning the 2009 Presidents Cup with an amazing performance.

His sponsors canceled their contracts and his rankings also fell. For the first time in his career, he could not win a single event.

In 2011 his dismal performances continued.

By 2013 he was back to his original form. He won the Farmers Insurance Open in January and the WGC-Cadillac Championship in March. A win in the Arnold Palmer Invitational re-established his position as the World No.1.

Tennis star Roger Federer was born on August 8, 1981, in Basel, Switzerland, to Swiss father Robert Federer and South African mother Lynette Du Rand. Federer's parents met while on a business trip for a pharmaceutical company, where they both worked. Federer took an interest in sports at an early age, playing tennis and soccer at the age of eight. By age 11, he was among the Top 3 junior tennis players in Switzerland. At age 12, he decided to quit other sports and focus all his efforts on tennis, which he felt he excelled at more naturally. By 14, he was fully immersed in the game, playing two or three tournaments per month and practicing six hours a week, along with up to three hours of conditioning. Earlier that year Federer lost the Australian Open to Novak Djokovic, and after their match Federer was sidelined with a knee injury. In July 2017, Federer set a new record, winning his eighth Wimbledon title in a 6-3 6-1 6-4 defeat of Marin Cilic. Thirty-five-year-old Federer also became the oldest men’s champion of the tournament in the Open era. "I wasn't sure if I was ever going to be here again in another final after last year," he said. "I've had some tough ones here, losing to Novak in 2014 and 2015. But I always believed that maybe I could come back and do it again. And if you believe, you can go really far in your life."

At the Australian Open in January 2018, Federer again defeated Cilic, this time in five sets, to claim a record-tying six Aussie titles and extend overall trophy haul to an astounding 20 Grand Slam singles championships. After sitting out the clay court season for the second consecutive year, he returned to the grass courts of Wimbledon, where he again added to a personal record by reaching the tournament's quarterfinals for the 16th time in his career, before bowing out with a five-set loss to South Africa's Kevin Anderson.

Malathi Krishnamurthy Holla is an International para athlete from India. She was awarded Arjuna award and Padma Shri for her achievements. Malathi Krishnamurthy Holla, who despite undergoing 33 surgeries and many setbacks in her life, never gave up and won over 389 golds, 27 silvers and 5 bronzes at national and international events, most of them on a rented wheelchair. She is still the fastest female Indian athlete on a wheelchair.

Childhood:

Malathi Krishnamurthy Holla was born on 6 July 1958 in Bangalore to a middle class family. Her father ran a small hotel in rural Bangalore. Born a healthy child, Malathi was struck with tragedy when she was just a year old. Malathi was left paralysed neck down by a raging fever. Electric shock treatment for more than two years on infant Malathi helped improve her upper body strength but there was little change below that. A very challenging destiny awaited Malathi. Malathi's parents continued efforts to bring life to Malathi's lower body. After 2 years of shock therapies, her parents had no choice but to hand her over to orthopaedic center in Chennai with hopes of reviving her lower body. The center was going to be the new home of Malathi for next 15 years, away from the comfort and warmth of a home with parents. But this was a place which was different from the usual outside world. It was a place where she will grow up with people having disabilities around her. Most of the children around her were from poor families, left by parents to never come back. For the next 15 years, Malathi's life was punctuated with surgery after surgery. Pain, surgeries and medical procedures was a routine at the center. The center was were she also studied and exercised hard to gain body strength. Going through all of this, Malathi slowly and steadily gained mental as well as physical strength and got used to the physical pains and mental trauma in her life. Over her life, Malathi would undergo over 32 surgeries. During this time Malathi made sports her passion, a therapy she pursued to find solace and freedom from her everyday pain. To Malathi's credit, she fought on and never backed out with dispair at any time during all these years. But life was to throw another challenge for Malathi. It was a fight that every disabled person in India has to fight. Coming back home after 15 years at the center, Malathi was now out of her comfort zone – in a society which looked down on disabled people. As she recalls, the biggest trauma of being a handicapped is the inferiority complex that creeps in. That is what hurts the most. But her passion for sports gave her the confidence and strength to fight along with her disability.

Haul of gold!

Malathi joined Maharani College in Bangalore where she continued with her passion for competitive sports. She trained hard, even though she didn’t have the most important piece of equipment needed by a disabled athlete – a racing wheelchair! Her strength and confidence saw her sail through all sports levels upto nationals where she continued to dominate sports for the handicapped. Starting 1975, she won many national medals. What was astonishing that Malathi excelled in multiple field level athletic events like shot put, discus, javelin, wheelchair race and obstacle race. Taken notice by authorities, she was given a clerical post by Syndicate Bank in 1981. It was only in 1988, that Malathi took part in her first international competition - Para-Olympics at Seoul. While other foreign atheletes who took part had personal coaches with them, Malathi was all on her own. Malathi saw first-hand the difference which a personal coach could make to performance. Not to give up in dispair, Malathi picked up cassettes and recordings of training by professionals and started to train accordingly. The result were soon to be seen. In a year's time, she began winning medals internationally. At the 1989 World Masters' Games in Denmark, she won gold in 200m, shot put, discus, and javelin throw. She was now an international champion and she continued hauling gold for India. After Seoul, Malathi has represented India at the Paralympic Games in Barcelona, Athens and Beijing; and the Asian Games in Beijing, Bangkok, South Korea and Kuala Lumpur. In all, Malathi has own 389 gold, 27 silvers and 5 bronzes at national and international events in her career, mostly on a rented racing wheel-chair! While many may not know her today, Malathi has been an inspiration for a entire generation of disabled persons and continues to inspire others to rise above their physical limits. This thought spurred her to start Mathru Foundation for physically disabled children in 2002 which she runs even today.

Awards & Recognitions:

Malathi, with her spirit, confidence and determination broke new grounds for disabled atheletes in India during her time. She championed for disabled atheletes be recognised for the Arjuna award and was also finaly confered with one in year 1995. She also received KK Birla Award and Eklavya Award from the Karnataka Government in 1995 and was named Woman of the Year, 1999 by American Biographical Institute, USA. Once out of IIM she joined Johnson and Johnson, as a product manager. After this, she joined Mettur Beardsell and then went to the States to pursue her Master’s in Public and Private Management. After this course got over in 1980, she joined Boston Consulting Group followed by Motorola and then Asea Brown Boveri. In all these companies she was at some strategic posts where she has to take the decision for the company’s well being.

The Ups and Downs:

Indra`s journey wasn’t this smooth as it seems. She slogged herself as a receptionist just to get her first suit to appear for the first interview in the US. She wasn’t comfortable in that attire, and that uncomfortable feeling didn’t get her the job. From the next interviews, her mentor told her to wear whatever she is comfortable in and being an Indian in the States, she wore a Saree and went for the interview and got the job. She says that she abides by ‘be yourself’ rule from that very day. However, this is just an instance of her struggle but not the whole of it. Talking about her struggle, if you dig a little deeper, you can know how she fought with her parents and society ‘conservative Indian society’ to get to the US. Yet, she never gives up, and finally, her determination gets her to the place from where she became what she is now known for.

Indra joined PepsiCo in 1994, as the Chief Strategist and within a shorter duration, she became an integral member of the company. She was the main head behind the idea of redesigning the brand which fetches more revenue. She was also the lead negotiator for various deals and to name the major ones are the acquisition of Tropicana orange juice in the year 1998 and Quaker Oats in the year 2000. Both the deals fetch success and profit for the company. After these two deals, many other successful deals followed which made her one of the most recognized Indian to be working in the United States in 2000. After her propositions and advises, the company’s profit jumped by 72% which is a huge margin and following that she became the CEO of the company

An entirely India-educated financial analyst, Mr. Ajaypal Singh Banga, known as Ajay Banga is the current president and CEO of MasterCard Inc, the ubiquitous financial company. He succeeded Robert W. Selander in July, 2010, who had been MasterCard’s chief executive officer since March 1997. Banga, 51 became a member of MasterCard’s Board of Directors with immediate effect.

Banga was born in 1961 in a Sikh family in Khadki outside Pune, Maharashtra but originally belonged from Jalandhar in Punjab. His father Harbhajan Singh Banga was Lt.General (retd.) in the Indian army. Due to army background Banga was constantly on move and therefore grew up and schooled across India- Secunderabad, Jalandhar, Delhi, Hyderabad and Shimla, where he finished his schooling.

Unlike his father Banga did not opt for a career in Army career and instead went on to graduate from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University with a BA degree in Economics. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

In that sense, Banga stands as an entirely India-minted executive who has climbed the echelons of an international company, while others like Vikram Pandit (CitiGroup) and Indra Nooyi (PepsiCo.) have U.S degrees in addition to the ones they earned in India.

Banga started his career at Nestle India as a management trainee in 1981 and spent the next 13 years of his career holding a variety of assignments spanning sales, marketing and general management. He later joined PepsiCo's Restaurants Division, where he was instrumental in the launch of Pizza Hut and KFC in India due to liberalization of economy.

He joined Citigroup in 1996 as the head of marketing in India for the consumer business and served in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility. These included chairman and chief executive officer of the International Global Consumer Group; president of Retail Banking North America; business head for CitiFinancial and the U.S. Consumer Assets Division; and, division executive for the consumer bank in Central/Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India.

In 2000, Banga was promoted to head CitiFinancial and the U.S. consumer assets division. In 2002 he took over the retail bank in North America – his first stint in the U.S. -- and in 2005 he was named to head Citigroup's international consumer-banking and finance businesses.

He moved to Hong Kong in early 2008 after being named to oversee all of the bank's businesses in Asia, including credit cards and consumer banking, institutional banking, wealth management and alternative investments, before returning to the US in 2009 to join MasterCard.

On joining MasterCard worldwide, Banga's task was clear i.e. to chase down leader Visa at a time both networks are said to be benefiting from consumers' increased shift to plastic.

He worked with one of his best clients to find a way to get more youth to use debit cards. As a result he redesigned the debit card product with its package of features, connecting it to music, and created a whole new marketing approach with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

The results were dramatic. Regarding high-tech innovation one area of development was that could transform driving e-commerce, mobile and transit fares. The other was a group in MasterCard Labs of basically young, trendy, inventive people developing new ideas, and trying to embed them to their clients. It's a way to build, for banks and merchants, new innovative ways to pay for goods and services -- such as being able to read a bar code from your phone and convert that to a purchase.

He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and The Economic Club of New York, as well as a fellow of the Foreign Policy Association. He is also a member of The Financial Services Roundtable and member of the Business Roundtable, where he chairs the Information and Technology Initiative.

Within the last five years, Mr. Banga has also served on the boards of trustees of Enterprise Community Partners, Inc., the National Urban League and the New York Hall of Science, and was a director of the Council for Economic Education. Mr. Banga has a keen interest in social development issues and was named by ‘The Economic Times of India’ as the fourth "Most Powerful Indian" in the world.

Describe his management style Banga says, “I'm very passionate, but I take time to work my passion. I mean I study something and I try to understand both sides of the debate because if you've been a banker and worked around the world long enough, you kind of have to understand both sides of the debate. Pichai Sundararajan, more commonly known to us as Sundar Pichai was born in Madurai, in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, on July 12, 1972. He belongs to a lower middle-class family and had never experienced the luxury of watching television or traveling by car in his childhood.His father Raghunath Pichai worked as an Electrical Engineer in General Electric in Chennai and therefore, the family lived in the city, at Ashok Nagar. His father was the manager of a factory that made components for electrical objects. The stories of the work challenges faced by his father always inspired Pichai.His mother, Lakshmi, was a Stenographer until she gave birth to her kids. Sundar has a younger brother as well.

Pichai saw technology in his hands at the age of 12 when his father bought a land line phone for the house. He had an extraordinary skill of memorizing and remembering numbers. He could keep in mind all the numbers he dialed. Pichai was not only good with numbers whilst at school but also the captain of his high school cricket team.

Sundar completed his Class X at Jawahar Vidyalaya, at Ashok Nagar and completed the Class 12 from Vana Vani school at Chennai. Pichai then graduated in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur.He completed his MS (Masters in Science) in Material sciences and Engineering from Stanford University and later went on to complete an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Sundar Pichai worked for McKinsey & Company in management consulting during his pre-Google days. He also contributed his talents in engineering and product management at Applied Materials.

Pichai joined Google in 2004 and is known to have worked on popular products like Toolbar. He also has worked on other products Google Gears and Google Pack, before Chrome was launched.However, the success of the Toolbar helped Pichai pace his career. Google noticed that the toolbar increased the user searches. This eventually led to the start of Google Chrome; Google’s very own browser.

Pichai has led product management and also found Google’s client software products such as Google Chrome and Chrome OS.
