New Boston: Juvenile Shot on Lion Drive

SHOOTING/LION DRIVE 

On December 1, 2023 at approximately 10:30 pm New Boston Police responded to a shooting call in the 900 block of East Lion Drive.  When officers arrived in the area, they located one juvenile that had been shot one time.  The juvenile was transported by Life Net to St. Michaels Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.  
The juvenile was then transported to Children’s Hospital in Dallas where he/she is  listed in good condition.

Currently an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting and the identification of the suspects.  The preliminary investigation has revealed approximately 35 shots  fired on East Lion Drive by two individuals who have been identified as two black males dressed in all black carrying a semi-automatic rifle that were seen on foot running west on East Lion Drive. 
 
Investigators have recovered evidence from the scene and video surveillance footage from neighborhood security systems.  Investigators continue to interview residents in the area and witnesses.  

There were witnesses that told investigators that unknown person(s) were knocking on their doors immediately following the shooting.  Please be vigilant of your surroundings and contact police if you observe any suspicious activity.   If you have any information, please contact the New Boston Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at (903) 628-3771.

The New Boston Police Department will update the public as the investigation progresses.

Clarksville: Will swear in a new Police Chief tomorrow

According to a Facebook post from the city managers office, the city of Clarksville will swear in a new police chief tomorrow at 11 am at Clarksville City Hall. Tommy Hunt is expected to be the new chief. We hadn’t had a chance to run his background but we will soon.

De Kalb: Citizens request Federal assistance with investigations

Ok, ok, I know the US Department of Justice should investigate the city of De Kalb and specifically the De Kalb Police Department for civil rights violations. For the Aryan Freedom Network to operate with impunity must have police involvement.

Earlier this year we caught someone in the police department posting election materials supporting a racist congressman out of Arizona. We requested the post be removed to which it was.

Then a month or so later two effigies were found after a call for a fire at the Rodeo in May.

It seemed as though the investigation was dragging on and we pulled up and forced the city to give an update to residents regarding the fire which wasn’t anything new..

Officer Gardner is investigating the rodeo fire. This is the same officer who investigated Demond Easter’s homicide where Easter was shot by a convicted felon and got off on a murder charge. Why isn’t the FBI involved in that investigation, Derrelexis Betts was a felon in possession of a firearm when he committed the murder. While we know he was no-billed by a grand jury, was the detective work that sucky?

Back to the Aryan Freedom Network, this is a nationally known klan headquartered right in De Kalb, Texas who openly is pushing for RAHOWA(Racial Holy War). They have national meetings on the land on Hwy 82, where the Confederate flag hangs. They had a meetup as recent as last weekend. Why isn’t the De Kalb Police investigating this crew psycho’s led by George Stout and his son Dalton Henry. This group punches racist, white nationalist propaganda all over the country but local officials are dumbfounded as to who would burn the rodeo and hang effigies up?

It seems all De Kalb police focus on is harassing and keeping in the line the Black residents through minor traffic infractions and small amounts of drugs.

A few years back, we exposed former Chief Walraven and his chief enforcer Mike Tice patrolling the town without valid peace officers licenses.

They were acting as “Renegades” stopping people, issuing tickets and taking people to jail when they themselves needed to be escorted to the jail.

For these reasons, we would like to see a federal investigation picked up asap.

Do we want De Kalb the next scene of a mass shooting? With a large know Klan presence, actively training for a Racial Holy War, could make for a disastrous future for the small community of Black people who still call De Kalb, Texas

Dallas: Why is Interstate 45 south so trashy?

Ride around Dallas on the freeways and they are nice, clean and new.

Ride interstate 44 south between IH-30 and Overton Road and the bridge looks like the slums.

Do anyone clean this part of the freeway? We just get done any kind of way in southern Dallas. Which ever company the city of Dallas uses to pick up the trash there is robbing the taxpayers and we want a refund. That freeway hadn’t been cleaned a good period of time as I will go out of town and come back and the same trash and more is out on that stretch.

I believe Carolyn Arnold is the city council person over that district or maybe Adam Bazuldua, no matter who it is, this stretch need some attention.

I was unable to get a picture at press time but I know y’all see all that trash as I do and want something done about it.

De Kalb: Residents complain water bill is extreme

For the past few weeks or so, we’ve run polls for residents to voice their opinion regarding the high water rates. We’ve tried to find solutions to aid residents and wanted to request a online public hearing to explain to residents the process.

From my observation, I noticed the De Kalb Police Department ( De Kalb is a very safe town) spent over fifty % of its total budget on the police department who generates little to revenue considering how much it uses.

This would be fine and dandy except how are city officials balancing an over $200,000 budget shortfall which in part is caused by an excessive police budget? Through your water bill.

The police department budget is $652,496.26 for fiscal year 23/24.

Water Department budget is $1,065,350 and the expenses for the department is $972,372.50, leaving a surplus of $92, 977.50 some of which goes to cover the overall budget shortfall.

One resident stated, “I am not satisfied with my water bill. It’s a $100 a month for a two person household. It’s totally ridiculous. Not to mention we both work full time and are both away from the house all day. At one point my bill was in the $65 range, then $85, and now $100 plus. This needs to stop”.

Another resident stated, “ I am not satisfied with my water bill. My bill is actually higher when I had my daughter live at home with me now that I’m by myself it’s almost $90 years every month. And I only wash once a month.”

Again, it is our hope to create dialogue between the citizens of De Kalb and the city officials so that there will be a better understanding of the water bill at the least. In fact, we really want to help get some relief to the citizens during this hard time.

Around 9 pm, 911 received a call about a mass shooting at 700 Stateline Avenue at Big Boys Toys in Texarkana, Tx. Police are still investigating and are releasing very few details.

UPDATE: "We’ve got an update on the shooting last night:

A total of six people, ranging in age from 19 to 31 years old, were shot at a party in the back room of a business in the 700 block of N. Stateline Avenue a little after 9:00 Saturday night. One man died at the scene, and then a woman and another man died overnight at the hospital. The three other victims - two men and a woman - suffered what are not believed to be life threatening injuries and are recovering at the hospital. 

Our detectives have been out all night working on this case and have identified 20 year old Breoskii Warren as a suspect in the shootings.

Apparently, this all started when a fist fight broke out between two men at the party. At some point during this fight, at least two men there pulled out rifles and started shooting. 

We’re still investigating this terrible incident as we continue to try to determine exactly what happened and who all was involved.

Allah's kingdom is of the heavens and the earth. He is the owner, maker, creator and sustainer of all that exist that is good. At the moment we are born, we make a pact with ALLAH, however, many of us tend to forget that pact due to all the distractions of the material world that come.

Satan now controls this situation (at least he thinks) through monetary policy. Meaning you give your labor for a green back in order to purchase things you want. He controls monetary policy through the Federal Reserve bank as of 1913. So many of us go about our life with,"money on my mind", "trying to get it", "Or getting to the money" . You know the sayings.

You ask, " What is this pact we make with ALLAH at birth", it is the agreement that our lives are solely based upon the worship of ALLAH, the creator all things GOOD. But we tend to get lost following miniscule things that are temporal, worrying bout keeping up with the Jones' and competing with everyone for the flashy things.

Lets look at fire, in fire are benefits. We use fire to cook food and stay warm, but if we look at the Sun, which is a big fireball, it can cause blindness. The same has happened to us chasing the bounty of ALLAH. Satan has stepped onto the path and blinded 99% of the people on earth.

We are caught up chasing money, cars, clothes, sex, jewelry etc equating these things with success. Success comes from faith and trust in ALLAH only. It is not measured by material things.

For example: ALLAH say's, "There, the (only) protection comes from Allah, the True One. He is the Best to reward, and the Best to give success."

NO matter how many guns or knives you have, God is the SUPREME protector. He gives you strength to conquer FEAR. ALLAH created everything good, so the owner is always the best to reward.

Belief in ALLAH is a major part of that success.

When we make the call to prayer (The adhan) we say come to prayer twice and the come to success twice. So prayer is an integral part of that success. Did you forget to make your prayer cause you were to busy chasing bread? Fasting and giving charity are major parts of that success.

These are the basic tents of Islam, you want success, follow these steps repeatedly throughout your day. The more you become in tune with ALLAH'S will, the more successful you'll be.

I remember back in 2005, I was a top 10% wage earner in the United States (meaning I was making that bread), I stopped making my prayers. Everyday before this I was making prayers and I was very successful. One day I told a brother that I had stopped making prayers and just like that I lost my houses, cars, clothes everything. I became homeless and was the laughing stock of Texas.

But ALLAH is the merciful, he was showing me that doing the basic things in repetition is what made me successful. I thank ALLAH for those lessons even though it was a major trial in my life because it helped me to understand what I need to be doing as a Muslim trying to serve ALLAH.

The trouble times also helped me to get out of my comfort zone and get out here and fight for truth and justice for my people.Taught me that its more to life than just me.

I pray these words touch and heal someone today. I feel like I'm just going on and on but I'm going to stop here.

De Kalb: Body cam footage of Demond Easter homicide scene | Detective Gardner | The Daily Phalanx

So yesterday we released the supplemental report from De Kalb Police Department. Today we release the body cam footage to go with the report and will point out a few discrepancies by Detective Gardner of the De Kalb Police Department.

1) In paragraph four, Detective Gardner stated he," assisted De Kalb Fire Kropf with medical aid on Mr. Demond Easter. I'm not sure if that was cutout of the video but I didn't actually see that. (withholding evidence that is deemed releasable is crime)

2) As they rolled Mr. Easter over he stated, " A Black Springfield Hellcat was located under Easter". " It did not have a round in the chamber nor a clip in the gun." He stated he put the gun in his patrol car.

According to the video, I never saw Detective Gardner retrieve a handgun and place it in his vehicle.(Withholding information that is deemed releasable or cutting a body cam footage is ILLEGAL).

If you notice, the De Kalb officer never detained Betts and only when the Bowie County Sheriff's department arrived did they handcuff a felon in possession of a firearm who had just committed a murder.

Think, a felon can only carry a gun on their property after 5 years release from prison or community supervision. How could he pull up at someone else's property with a handgun and a felon in possession??????

De Kalb: First Baptist Church denies Muslim man funeral because of faith | The Daily Phalanx News

In what is seemingly becoming a trend among rural large churches, a De Kalb man was denied funerary services at First Baptist Church all because he was of the Islamic faith. Gail Davis, who is over special projects interrogated the family about Demond Easter’s religion as if she was tipped off by others and told the family they only conduct Christian funerals. What a sad occasion for a church whose mission says, “Love God, Love People, and connecting people to the faith”.

This would have been an excellent time for interfaith services and for the Christians to be able to to further understand Islam in this suppose to be cohesive society of America.

This is a church that just recently allowed Blacks to attend services.

The family anticipated there would be a packed house for Easter’s Janazah and wanted to use First Baptist because it is the largest church in De Kalb. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen but Robbie Bates allowed it to take place at his place of business in De Kalb.

We need to do a better job of trying to connect and understand each other and quit being so afraid of anything that we are not used to.

First Baptist Church and their parishioners should be ashamed of their policies regarding the matter and need to be called out on the Racism and Xenophobia.

Oh btw, I officiated Easter’s funeral and was a student of Davis back in the 90’s. I recall Davis at one point calling one of Easter’s uncles,’ a good un’. I guess Easter wasn’t good enough as his uncle?

First Baptist Church De Kalb has too much power | The Daily Phalanx News

When you think of the First Baptist Church in any town in America you think of power.

First Baptist Church of De Kalb is no different. Many of the town’s elite attend and is the biggest church in De Kalb, Texas. They have a considerable amount of power when it comes to the politics of the town.

First Baptist has so much power, they recently purchased land from Heritage Lane and N.W Redwood to N.W. Fulton. Redwood has been a public street until recently. When did we start privatizing public roads for the benefit of a private institution. Typically, if state law allows it it is to strengthen the local economy with job creation.What jobs were created from this privatization? From what I read, it is illegal to put up a barrier on an existing public road.

First Baptist should be ashamed of themselves for putting this barrier up to keep people off of a public street. Are you God of the streets now? do you just steamroll the people and do what you want to do? Many people I discussed this with claimed they didn't know a thing about it until the barriers went up. Are you to good for the regular citizens of De Kalb? I don't know but this is going in the wrong direction as far as privatizing our taxpayer funded roads in Texas.

According to the TEX. TRANSP. CODE § 311.008., a city may vacate, abandon, or close a street by petition if its a general law city. The abandonment must be in the for of a city ordinance Texas Co. v. Texarkana Machine Shops, 1 S.W.2d 928 (Tex. Civ. App.—Texarkana 1928, no writ); TEX. LOC. GOV’T CODE § 253.001(c).

We will be doing further investigations into the matter for the sake of the unlearned citizens of De Kalb who are wondering, " why has our street been cut off"

De Kalb: Mayor, Place 1 , and Place 2 up for election in May 4, 2024 | The Daily Phalanx

There are three seats up for election May 4, 2024. The Mayor seat, currently held by Lowell Walker, Place 1- currently held by Brenda Smith and Place 2-currently held by Sarabeth Walker. We strongly encourage regular citizens to seriously consider running for public office because in De Kalb, Tx it is the same 'good ole boy system' running the town. There is a definite need for new, younger blood in public office.

The requirements for mayor is one year residency in the state of Texas prior to the filing deadline and one year residency in the city of De Kalb prior to election day. You must be at least 18 years-old and be a registered voterin the territory elected by the filing deadline.

City council requirements are as follows: one year in the state prior to the filing deadline, six months in the city or ward prior to filing deadline.

The first day to apply to be on the ballot is in January while the filing period ends in February. The drawing for a place on the ballot will be in February, while the last day to register to vote will be in April. First day of early voting is in April and election day is May 4, 2024 from 7am-7pm.

Be encouraged to represent your city, if you need help with your campaign, we definitely can help with that too as we worked with Republican Sam Osemene who ran for Austin City Council and Judge Staci Williams a Democrat in Dallas County civil court and a few others.

Feral cats run wild in De Kalb, Tx and practically run the town | The Daily Phalanx

I've been in De Kalb, Tx now about 10 days and the first thing I noticed was an over proliferation of stray cats north of Highway 82. The city of De Kalb has an animal control officer, who according to city code 5-3-4(b), has the authority to impound. The code states 'any dog or cat found loose and at large within the corporate limits of the City is hereby subject to impoundment'. But that doesn't seem to be happening.

Between the Valero and the De Kalb Housing Authority I know I counted at least twenty-five feral cats, strolling, looking for food- which is way too many for that small distance. In the city of De Kalb is a privilege to own dogs and cats and they must be registered with the city. The registration is good for one year. With that registration cats/dogs must be vaccinated at four months or older.

Current fees for registration is posted at city hall. A resident can only have up to four according to the city code. We pray the city look into and actually get to work getting some of these feral cats off the streets. its a crying shame when the stray/feral cat population exceeds total people in De Kalb, Tx.

It has been over four months and the citizens hadn’t received an update on the fire at the rodeo. It’s almost like the city is letting time pass so the emotions can quell and eventually everyone will move on. This typically happens when there is no serious media organizations in the area. We would like to receive an official public statement from the mayor or police chief of De Kalb, Tx. This is a very serious matter and it should be taken serious by public officials.

City of New Boston website fails to instruct citizens on how to email open records | The Daily Phalanx?

As a news paper editor in Bowie County I was strolling through local city websites trying to gain more information and become more adept at the local issues. First thing I notice is the city of New Boston explains the open records requests and states the different ways to submit an open records request.

1- Must be hand delivered or mailed to the city secretary

2- Must be written

it also states that you can send an electronic email but fails to give email information for the public information officer.

This kinda makes it hard to submit electronically, which according to the Texas Public information Act we should be able to submit electronically.

We at The Daily Phalanx News believe in transparency and stand on that. We would like to see the city secretary/public information officer's email listed on the website.

Warrant Issued for Dallas Police Officer 

On November 19, 2021, the Dallas Police Department’s Public Integrity Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Senior Corporal Melvin Williams, #8870, for Assault, Misdemeanor A, which occurred on July 18, 2021. He is expected to turn himself into local authorities.    

Senior Corporal Williams has been on the department since June 2006 and is currently assigned to the Tactical and Special Operations Bureau. He is on administrative leave pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs administrative investigation.

Homicide Investigation- 4700 Block of Stokes Street 2 shot/1deceased

On February 8, 2019, at 7:13 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a call for police at 4739 Stokes Street regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, two gunshot victims, Thomas Rodriguez, a 28-year-old Latin male, and Reginald Johnson, a 22-year-old black male, were located and transported to an area hospital, where Thomas Rodriguez died from his injuries.

The Dallas Police Homicide Unit has identified Michael Hudson, a 56-year-old black male, as the suspect in this offense and an arrest warrant for murder, a felony of the first degree, has been issued.

Dallas Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect to contact 911. If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact Det. Montenegro with the Dallas Police Department Homicide Unit at (214) 671-3624, or e.montenegro@dallascityhall.com. Please reference case #26939-2019.

Homicide at 9300 Mixon Drive 2 shot/1 deceased

On February 10, 2019, at approximately 7:15 p.m., an unknown individual approached a parked vehicle at 9300 Mixon Drive and shot both of the occupants, Amelia Hernandez-Orozco, a 46-year-old Latin female, and Saul Baeza Sanchez, a 39-year-old Latin male. Dallas Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the victim Hernandez-Orozco deceased at the scene. The victim Baeza Sanchez was transported to an area hospital and is being treated for his injuries.

Early Friday morning around 4 a.m., Andre Homer, 42, of Dallas was shot in the head causing serious bodily injury during the early morning robbery, according to reports. This shooting was cleared by an arrest.*

Anthony Salas, 20, of Dallas was shot Sunday evening around 5:50 p.m. in the 900 block of Local Vista, near Fireside and Prarie Creek. This shooting was cleared by an arrest.*

St. Louis: First known casualty on an Electric Scooter

Saturday night turned deadly for a Lime scooter rider in St. Louis. Officials say an investigation is underway after a man crashed his Lime into a tree. The accident happened just before 10 p.m. near the intersection of Grand and Penrose.

The man struck the tree and was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. There were no other vehicles involved int he accident. Lime scooters travel up to 15 m.p.h and you are required to wear a helmet.

We are unsure if the rider had on a helmet at the time of the accident. To date, there haven't been any deaths in Texas on electric scooters.

Midlothian ISD approves healthcare clinic in conjunction with Methodist Hospital; Attendance Zones

Yesterday, the MISD board unanimously approved the creation of a healthcare clinic for Midlothian ISD staff with Methodist Hospital! Visits will be $10 for all MISD employees and their families, and the clinic will open in early 2019.

The Board also unanimously approves a one-time supplemental pay for all MISD staff! Full-time employees will receive $500, and part-time employees will receive $250 on Friday, Nov. 16. Thank you to our Board for their appreciation of our teachers and staff!

The Board approves the proposed elementary attendance zones for the 2019-2020 school year.

Dallas: Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee meeting rescheduled to November 26

The normal scheduled Public Safety Committee meeting for November 12th was canceled on October 23rd and will be held November 26th a Dallas City Hall.

Desoto: Albertsons closing at Beltline and Cockrell Hill

Residents spoke at the November 6th Desoto Council meeting regarding the closing of Albertsons and were outraged that they weren't informed sooner. One resident stated she was informed on October 29th. The closing of this store seems to put the area of Belt Line and Cockrell Hill in a strain for those who don't want to shop at Walmart.

One resident stated she didn't want a storefront church nor an abandoned building. She wanted to petition an HEB or Whole Foods to the corridor. Natalie Smith stated, " What are we doing" with retail development in the city of De Soto. She stated that Albertsons still owns the building and they stated that they wouldn't lease the building to another grocery store. The store is scheduled to close in early December.
