Ever thought of a traveler exploring the world and sharing the experiences with you , maybe you have read alchemist where the protagonist a shepherd shares the tale of his adventure and his quest for something big.

This is somewhat the story of Sushant Singh i.e. Major Sushant Singh to be very precise. You might haven’t heard about him and his mission but the story that I’m going to share today will impact your life positively.

Major Sushant Singh is an India army mountaineer, ex-para sf commando who left Indian army to start his second innings following his passion as an adventurer to travel around the world. But the most interesting part of the story is not travelling across the continents but how he is executing it.

The famous quote in alchemist “when you want something all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it” beautifully portrays the journey of major Sushant.

He in man interviews have told how he is the only person in the world who is in the expedition to travel across all the 7 continents along with climbing the highest peak of all the continents individually. Very brave to hear but hard to execute it in the ground , he started his journey with almost no penny in hand and savings to fund his travel which cut his budget with the bare minimum and only essential things he can take along with him. The most shocking part of his story was that he started his expedition not in a car, bus or bike , not even did he hitchhiked but finished travelling across Australia , new Zealand and Africa(currently) only in his cycle .

As of now he mentioned “I am also cycling to the southernmost tips of these landmasses, namely Invercargill in New Zealand, Cape Agulhas in South Africa, and Ushuaia in Argentina. By the time I finish, I would have cycled more than 70,000 kilometres, climbed the highest mountain in every continent, including Mt Everest and would have cycled to the ends of the earth. Till now I have cycled to the South Island of New Zealand, across Australia from Sydney to Perth, covered Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and pedalled from Chennai to Mumbai in India. I have also climbed the highest peak in Australia, Mt Kosciusko.” In an interview with outlookindia.

Along with this he also said “My cycle is my home on wheels. I carry everything important to me, though it may sound frivolous. Books are essential, and Kindle has made things easier. My laptop, camera and power-banks are a must. One also needs to carry quite a few spares for repairs. I always carry a radio, a relic of my army days. It always brightens up my evening when camping.”

It is very clear that he is more than just an adventurer who risking it all to follow his heart in such an amazing but at the same time life threatening expedition.

What motivated me to write this blog was not just to share his achievement or his journey but how clear he was with his decision to leave his home and caring wife to cycle around many of the isolated parts of the world.

A tough day to pass .

The pictures shown above perfectly depicts that the routes were not cake walk and along with such a tough journey came the danger of being so close to the wildlife. Not only ferocious animals but the rumours from the netizens about the ongoing journey to the next country with warnings like “don’t go there, they will kill you” , “they are maleficent and hostile , wont accept strangers in their place”.

But major Sushant never looked back instead kept on going further on , meeting new people and their community , staying in complete strangers shelter without any hesitation . Most of these communities were warm and welcoming against the believes of their counterparts and neighbouring countries.

“It was always the elderly who were more attracted towards my journey. They very often would stop over for a chat. Maybe seeing me rekindled memories of their youth, of foolishness, rashness, and spontaneity? In New Zealand, a car once overtook me and screeched to a halt by the roadside. An old man came out and had a hearty laugh of disbelief when I told him what I was doing. He said that he was quite an idiot when he was young, but thank God, not to the degree that I was. He then sent me off with a box of chocolates! “

These we few of the glimpse from the life and philosophy which major Sushant Singh is living and inspiring others to get out their comfort zones to follow their heart and do something beyond a successful career or a monotonous lifestyle that we are living in cities and towns , to go out and explore the world ; meeting new communities having totally different lifestyles and believes about life .

Do epic shit is the best seller currently, an amazing book by Ankur warikoo .

Ankur warikoo is an entrepreneur, teacher, content creator, life coach and my digital mentor.

In this blog we will take insights from few of the chapters of do epic shit, but before we get started, I just want to mention that this book is really free flowing and can be read from whichever page the reader really wishes to as we know ‘the teacher just shows up when the student is ready’.

The following are my key takeaways and may be different from someone else.

Chapter 1: success (and failure)

What Ankur really emphasized upon this chapter title was not really his life outcomes on success and failures from his childhood but rather his life experiences and learnings which constructed his judgements around success and failure.

Here are few of the best quotes and lessons from this chapter:

1. “Others success will generate massive self-doubt every morning when you wake up.

Get up anyway”

I’ve personally read this quote in a lot of different post by him in different social media handles and this monologue is the harsh truth of life Ankur wants us to understand. to some level we all suffer from envy, self-doubt, insecurities, pessimism from other achievements but we can’t let go of life and ourselves in such hard times, instead just keep on working anyway who knows the journey ahead is worth it.

2. “The biggest misconception people have is that they are the odd one out and everyone else is sorted! “

I think one of the most relatable lines for all of us, we all most of our time judge other with their actions that most probably they are sorted and especially happy in their life.

But its when you talk to them, sooner or later you will realize that they are also in some of their dilemma and of course not sorted at all.

3. “We have just one life.

Why live it with just one identity?”

The best example is the author itself, as I mentioned earlier Ankur is an entrepreneur at least but so much at most.

We have one life.

We don’t need to be one person.

4. “The pro is the amateur who showed up everyday”

Many a times its not that we were not made for something and that’s why we lost, also to be good at anything you need to give that skill a certain amount of time.

A time which you could have spent wasting on something not productive at all, but instead you choose to use it for practicing, even when nothing seemed like it was working. this separates a pro from an amateur and that’s what loving the process means.

Remember the pro is the one who chose discipline.

5. “don’t measure how valuable you are by the way you are treated”

No one will treat you well, because they wish to.

You measured your worth one these bases, means you are working according to their wish.

You get to choose who you listen to and even if nobody treats you well start from you own self.

You will see the change yourself.

6. “Whatever you are feeling today will fade away”

Our emotions and feelings are temporary, we think they are permanent.

There is a difference between ‘how you are feeling ‘and ‘you are that feeling’

Many a times we say, “I am sad”, “I’m happy” and feel most probably we will remain as such for the rest of our life, but the reality is its just a feeling and not the result.

So, the next time you feel anyway, you can try say “I’m feeling happy or sad right now”, you will see instant change.

7. “You don’t find your passion; you grow your passion”

Passion is the nudge that refuses to leave you, till the time you nurture it daily.

The whole internet is filled with “how to find to find your passion in ___ minutes !!!!”

The reality is we all have some or the other nudges and deep love for things, but we just haven’t embraced it and instead are looking externally for finding already know answer.

8. “3 relationship that define almost everything that happens to us in our lives:

· The relationship we have with money.

· The relationship we have with time.

· The relationship we have with ourselves”.

I think it is more of a truth than an opinion.

These are our priorities we should really work upon in our lives.

How things changed for me

It’s been a while since my last post, and it has really surprised me how things have changed within few months.

Imagine being all day long engaged in your thoughts and don’t really understand how to get rid of them in the first place.

Well in the recent research about the famous angel investor Naval Ravikant (from various podcasts, interviews and blogs), I understood the art of doing literally nothing, happiness being a choice we can work on, meditation being the passage for peace in your mind and wealth creation.

According to Naval we all are facing the modern struggle, a struggle against unhealthy food (processed), insomnia, porn addiction and social media. Where every tech giant is regulating your sleep, happiness, envy, comparison and various other emotions; all this while we are alone in this battle far away from our communities.

I would specially like to highlight the concept of happiness being a choice as quoted by Naval. For a long time for past few month, I’ve tried a lot of ways to understand happiness and what can I do about it.

Happiness have different meaning for different people , happiness comes from solving life problems(not ignoring them) as explained by Mark Mason in ‘the subtle art of not giving f*ck’, happiness can be the state of being satisfied with your life and not running in the treadmill of goals, different definitions of happiness have their own critics and drawbacks but the definition which actually makes much of the sense in todays world is happiness is a state where you no longer something missing in your life, when there is no emptiness within.

Now try imagining a state when you don’t have a cloud of endless thoughts inside your head thinking about all the material things you don’t have and them being the sole reason why you cannot live and grow peacefully in the society.

Your mind will automatically shut down when you aren’t anxious about things, and you can more often be in present to focus and embrace your current self.

Also, in the past few months I’ve learnt to let go of things bothering me unnecessarily and also cut the string attaching me to the fear about tomorrow’s problem.

Most of these things are actually playing in my mind and that’s why it’s the most difficult thing to take a hold on. Life is more than past regrets and future dilemmas, we just need to calm down and think from a different perspective.

Another amazing thing which I discovered was the no more need to ask ‘whether I’m happy or not ‘ .previously there were times when this question use to arise in middle of nowhere “why I’m not happy?” and then another loop of thoughts were activated searching about its answers , this process always ended up making me more sad than ever and really spoiled my mood .

It was later when I realised the true meaning of happiness was in never having this question in the first place and getting out of this negative habit (I no longer have now).

what I learnt from free time

We are all working for something in our life and are busy in our own ecosystem.

We are either comfortable or stressed.

From the past 15 days when I was in my semester break something strange happened and would like to share it with you.

I didn’t want to study in my breaks and so had a lot of time to do something I genuinely wanted to do but could not due to time constraints in college time.

The next thought which came into my mind was a plan which I wanted to execute when I was to get some time off. I wanted to make an Instagram page sharing all my stories, poetries and quotes which I’ve written during my semester, something which I've experienced and felt from the bottom of my heart.

Although the execution was difficult in the beginning and I'm still struggling on it but in this free time of 15 days (about 2 weeks) when I could have binge watched some tv shows [ I restrained myself] or scrolling through social media wasting my time; I spent some good time writing and editing my reels and quotes for posts and really felt amazing from within.

It always feels good when you can share your content and people appreciate it even in small numbers in the beginning.

Of Course I still fell empty from within sometimes because my mind Is not always filled with content to write or share but it feels good from within and made me learn so much [ more than I learnt in my 1st year of college].

I would like to share a beautiful quote by Robin Williams from the movie ‘dead poets society’

We don’t read and write poetry because it's cute, we read and write poetry because we’re members of the human race...... and the human race is filled with passion. Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life; but poetry, beauty, romance, love these are what we stay alive for.

Indeed, its true from every sense, now when I realize that engineering and going to college is really important and necessary to get a job and earn a living but writing and content creation is something when makes me feel alive; like some of us like designing, sketching, sports, oratory, reading, web development, gardening etc. is something which keeps us mentally healthy and living.

I learnt about consistency from my diary

We all have heard the quote “consistency is the key to success” once in our lifetime. Being consistent is difficult and requires a lot of focus on your work along with all the problems you face in your daily life.

Sometimes we don’t feel like working!!

Sometimes we are self pityingly exhausted …...

Or else we just procrastinate and hope we do it next time...which of Course if does not have any deadline will never work out for you.

The thing is, for anything you want to achieve or dream of needs a lot of focus, effort, time, and of course demanding work. But even after having somehow passed all these hurdles on our way to heaven we unfortunately fail sometime or to be precise most of the time.

Then we start to feel envy about every person who once went through all of this that you have faced but the only difference is that they succeeded in this journey and are termed as ‘lucky birds’ by people like us.

But we never thought about the number of low blows they faced in this journey but kept flowing along the way, this is something we call being consistent for your goal.

Let me explain to you with an example of my daily diary entries the so-called journaling that we say.

I started two years back with one day just to write about something which I didn’t want to share with anyone. It turned out that I loved sharing my thoughts and days like this and since then I have consistently been writing for the past two years. The best part is I can reflect upon life and my past at any point from any day.

This is what see from the one end of any happy and successful journey, how easy it looks like when we read about it and at least once it comes to our mind “God it's not really that hard to keep up with, it is definitely my cup of tea.”

But what we don’t see are the days when I wanted to procrastinate and would have told myself “Surely I will write from the next day.”

How many times I wanted to dose off but kept patience till I am finished with writing. Now imagine doing this for 2 years of your life, 2 years in which many of the days were pathetic and sad, many times you felt shit about yourself but still wrote about it.

This is the simplest example for keeping up with your work or hobby and being consistent for extended periods of time.

As Dwayne Johnson says “Success is not always about greatness. It is about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come. “

Lessons about problems , overconsumption and being yourself

Just few months back COVID19(third wave) cases were rising and my college was temporarily shifted to online mode .

Well the story was I spent almost 2 months in home sitting and waiting for the days to pass by ; well in that moment initially on day one it felt like all problems of college are sorted now(no studies, online exams)but following a couple of weeks I realized problems are still the most essential part of my life.

We as humans , work and uplift in the society as we have the urge of fighting our problems like - might be being rich, might be getting recognition or else might be to prove your worth. Whatever be your nature of problem it indeed gives you the encouragement to start something in the first place.

So as the days passed I started getting insecure about things I'm definitely missing in the passing days but couldn't sort out what they were. There are many spiritual gurus who have amazing followings in the social media and regularly deliver speeches about transformations from shitty humans to overwhelming self-conscious intellects, well it actually works for some but I couldn't sustain on their path and after watching around 10 of their videos I quickly left these 1or 2 hours life realization talks. What did work for me were normal non fiction books(which are considered purely useless by many),it gave me a direction to align my thoughts and then work for them practically .

Some times its better to not follow the crowd and its totally possible that things which worked for others might won't work for you or else not always the best source will help you solve your problem.

Sometimes while scrolling through posts and reels you might notice certain influencers (always shitting about positivity)will advice you to eat well, read good books, watch good content, gratitude and the list goes on and on . I did try it out but in a really hardcore binge watching way, whatever may be the content I was following like spirituality , finance ,podcasts, non fictional books etc. After giving certain number of hours the end story was I'm more irritated and stressed than ever before(watched full seasoni in one go at the cost of loosing 8 hours straight out of bed , seriously!!).

Its a fact that without taking breaks if we continue like a snapchat streak we will burn out on mental balance (remember we are humans )and the overconsumption of anything whatever amount of positivity it stores will harm you .

"Be yourself that's how you can ace any job interview " I heard the expert saying when I was watching a random interview session on YouTube. What I realized a couple of weeks later was that "being yourself is not just important for an interview or any personality test but for every moment of our life".

Being yourself means choosing not be like or act like someone else at the same time, being someone else can sometimes be really toxic and self-destructing because now you have put expectations on yourself (as like someone else you think you should be)without realizing that its not in your hands creating a good moment (being savage all the time).

Remember as Steve Jobs said "your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else life".

The place was first discovered in 2009 during an emergency plane landing in this unidentified place.

This cave situated in Vietnam was first discovered in 1990 but the original location was lost soon.Then finally in 2008 it was rediscovered .
