Attention, dewy young beauties: This is the most important decade for your skin. The way you care for it now will determine what it will look like for the rest of your life. Because it's probably at its healthiest, with great collagen support, your skin is supple. Whatever sun damage you may have has not yet started to show. Lucky you: Light reflects off the plump surface of your cheeks, giving you a healthy glow.

The number one complaint among women in their 20s is acne, says Ranella Hirsch, MD, president-elect of the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology & Aesthetic Surgery. (See "I'm Too Old for Acne!") But it's largely avoidable. Most 20-somethings break out because they use dehydrating products that strip their skin of natural oils, says Hirsch. This causes oil glands to overproduce, resulting in pimples.

Your No-Fail Plan

Use gentle products, and focus on damage prevention. "You don't need antiwrinkle creams or microdermabrasion in your 20s," says Ranella Hirsch, MD, president-elect of the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology & Aesthetic Surgery.

Cleanser: If you have normal skin, you need to wash it only before bed, says Lupo. Use a mild cleanser—either a gel, if your skin is oily, or a milky one, if it's dry.

Moisturizer: Pick a brand, any brand. But be absolutely sure that your moisturizer has SPF 15 or 20, and that it gives you both UVA and UVB protection. Apply it all over your face and on your neck and chest, says Lupo. (This is critical no matter what your age.)

Nighttime treatment: Use a hydrating fluid or an oil-free moisturizer. Many dermatologists recommend starting on the vitamin A-derivative prescription retinoids (like Retin-A, Tazorac, and Avage)—the gold standard for reducing fine lines, stimulating collagen, and treating acne—or products containing the less potent, over-the-counter retinol. Before bed, apply a pea-size amount all over your face and right up under your eyes, says Hirsch; then you don't need an eye cream

I was curious when the Mary-Kate cosmetic seller told me that I needed to start using skin care, including moisturizer. This confused my because for one thing, I thought that having oily skin meant that i didn't need to moisturize, and secondly I was afraid to breakout even more than I had been. I didn't know that there are different moisturizers for different skin types, whether for dry, oily, sensitive, or combination.

Moisturizing is vital for lasting elasticity and smooth skin, especially as you age. It's never too soon to start moisturizing your face, okay well at least when you get to be in your teens.

For application tips, it is always best to cleanse your skin throughly and then apply your cream while your skin is still damp, helping it to soak in.

HONEY

The sweetest skin treatment of the bunch, honey has been used medicinally for thousands of years, dating back to 2500 BC! Stay Away From Dark Lipstick

"As we age, our lips thin. Super dark lipstick on skinny lips isn't attractive. Your best lipstick bet is the shade closest to your natural lip color or if you like color, rosy reds. Orange lipsticks tend to be aging, but pinks are not. If your lips have thinned or are super wrinkly, play up your eyes instead. A bit of lip gloss makes lips appear plumper.

Try Eye Pencils Instead of Liquid Liners

Lip plumpers do work, but the effects don't last long (we're talking under an hour). So skip the plumpers and save your money. Even Vaseline on lips will make them appear larger."

How to Apply Eye Shadow
Applying eye shadow can be a little tricky, but once you know the basics, you get to play with the colors that you have. A lot of women try one technique, like it and never vary it.. ever again.

Select a light base shadow. Using a shadow brush, sweep it across your entire lid, from brow to lash line.
Prime the eyelids by dusting them with a small amount of loose powder.
Blend shadow by stroking the lid gently with an eye shadow brush. Don’t use your finger you could wipe off the shadow entirely.
-Use a medium-toned shade to cover your lower lids.
-Use a cosmetic puff and a little pressed powder to tone down heavy shadow. Shake any excess powder off the puff, then press it gently on your lid.
-Contour the crease of your eyelid with a dark shade, using a smaller eye shadow brush.
Choose three shades in the same color family – light, medium and a darker shade for contrast.
Apply the lightest shade on the entire lid from brow to lash line.

Eye Shadow Applying Tips

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 1: First decide the color you want to use. Almond color is considered best for eye but using three to four color will look good only if they are mixed well.

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 2: To give a smoky look to your eyes, prefer using dark colors, like blue, grey or black. Brush them at the outer corners and blend them well. Don’t move further more than quarter inch away from your eye.

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 3: If you have a thin eye shadow brush you might want to try darkening the crease area with a little more dark shadow, just along the crease though……gives a different type of effect.

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 4: Use two shades of the same color for that exotic look. The inner corner of the eye area is lighter in shade and the shadow deepens in color towards the outer eye.

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 5: The shadow is applied only on the upper eyelid, leaving the space beneath the brows. If you wish, you may apply some shadow on the lower lash line to add color.

Eye Shadow Applying Tip 6: Apply the dark shade to the eye lid area. It is best to start in the middle of the eye lid and work out towards the outside, cover the entire lid. Blend the crease area in well. If you have a thin eye shadow brush you might want to try darkening the crease area with a little more dark shadow, just along the crease though……gives a different type of effect.
Here are some of the choices for shading and highlighting that you can try:
Highlight the eyelid, round the shading: Best suited for hooded eyes and older deep set eyes.
Highlight the eyelid, wing the shading: Best suited for younger deep set eyes.
Shade the eyelid and round the shading: Best suited for prominent lids and younger deep set eyes.
Shade the eyelid and wing the shading: Best suited for younger deep set eyes.
Eye shadows come in in several textures, powders (compacts), pencils, and creams:
Powder can be used either dry or wet and it’s really easy to control. Make sure you look for a powder that feels moist.
Pencils are fairly easy to use, but you need to remember to smear the line as you go or you’ll have lines all over your face.
Creams tend to be hard to control. They can look beautiful and stay that way if you use a good quality eye foundation (eye primer), otherwise they can slip and slide into the creases on your eyes and eyelids.

Quick Smokey Eye Tutorial!

Smoky eyes are everywhere for fall, and the look has never been fresher because they are being done in every shade from classic charcoal to soft browns, and even vibrant shades like plum or teal. Smoky eyes is not a color, it is a technique; or rather many techniques.

Here is one of my favorites from makeup artist Christian McNally. It looks fierce and only takes about five minutes. Have faith. it may look like a hot mess when you are halfway through, but it comes together magically in the end. Blending is the key!

Start by smoothing a tiny bit of Lemon Lid Primer over the whole lid, lash line to brow. Blend well with your finger tips or the Camouflage Brush.
Next, apply coordinating eye Pencil: For example, Black/Brown works well with brown or plum smoky eyes; Black or Black/Grey works with charcoal or teal. Draw a thick line across the upper lash line, going about half way up the lid towards the crease. Draw another line under the lower lashes, from inner to outer corner. Connect the two lines at the outer corner, and don't worry about being neat.
Blend the Pencil well with the Small Fluff Brush to a soft, edgeless finish. One thing I have learned is to blend with a very light touch. It may take longer, but otherwise I end up blending off the makeup I just applied!
Take your desired shade of PurePressed Eyeshadow Triple. Apply the medium shade to the outer two-thirds of the upper lid with the Crease Brush. The crease can stay clean for this look; concentrate the color on the lid and lash line.
Apply the lightest shade on the inner third on the upper lid with the same brush and blend the two together with your clean Crease Brush (simply wipe it off on a tissue).
With the Mini Dome Brush, use the darkest shade in the trio to intensify everywhere you placed the eye Pencil. Blend well.
Again with the Crease Brush, highlight with a little bit of Oyster (shimmery) or Bone (matte) PurePressed Eye Shadow in the inner corner of the eye at the sides of the nose, and on the brow bone. Blend well.
Line the inner rim (waterline) of the upper and lower lash line with Liner. Use the same liner or try Black for fierce drama, or Midnight Blue to really whiten the whites of your eyes.
Apply PureLash Extender & Conditioner to upper and lower lashes to condition lashes and add volume and length. While it is still damp, follow with several coats of Longest Lash Mascara in Black Ice.

Now with eyes this intense, please keep the cheeks and lips soft and neutral. The one exception for this fall might be a subtle pop of hot pink. Use a light hand and try Clarity In Touch Cream Blush on the cheeks and Sugar Plum PureGloss on the lips

One makeup that a lot of women don't know how to handle is the eyeliner. Just look around you and you will see that many women look fiercer, out of style, or simply untidy whenever they use eyeliner. Do not commit the same mistakes that these women are guilty of; read on and learn how to use this makeup accessory more effectively.

Types of Eyeliner

Pencil-

The most popular type of eyeliner is the pencil. You probably have seen and used this one. The pencil eyeliner is very easy to use and quite versatile. You can use this practically for any occasion. Just be sure to choose a soft eye pencil, especially if you are just starting to learn how to apply a liner, because you don't want to hurt your eyes with hard-tipped pencil eyeliner.

Liquid-

Of all the eyeliner types, the liquid eyeliner is the most difficult to control because of its fluid consistency. You need to have a steady hand in order to achieve a flawless finish when using the liquid type because it can smudge easily. Cake-

Before, only master artists know about cake eyeliners. Fortunately for women of today, the popularity of cake eyeliners has increased so there are many manufacturers who make them now. This is the best type to use if you want to have smoky eyes. If you don't want to invest in an expensive cake eyeliner, you can always use your eyeshadow to do the trick. Just make sure that you use a small brush to make things easier for you when applying lines on your eyelids.

Eyeliner Application Tips

Dozens of women apply eyeliner by pulling the outer area of their eyes. This is one mistake that you have to avoid. Not only will this practice contribute to eye wrinkles, you will also end up with jagged lines on your eyes when your skin goes back to the right position.
