Parenting is hard work, whether you’ve agreed to this enlightening journey or not, the road ahead welcomes a list of responsibilities challenging our subconscious and exercising every bit of patience. Most parents would agree that we don’t want our children making the same mistakes as we have. Among other things, the concept of money demands careful attention. I’m no financial expert but after years of credit card debt and irresponsible spending, I was forced to make some changes. I’ve joined and contributed to the millions of Americans living outside our means… blatant miss-handling of money has provoked a surfacing generation of entitlement, privilege, and compensation. I want my children – ages 6 and 8 – and yours to avoid these financial setbacks and appreciate every cent they earn. The school of hard knocks is a tough place to be, though failing can create opportunities of growth, why not raise money smart kids now.

I understand that times are difficult - families are still experiencing the effects of today’s recession. In my opinion there is a detrimental need to teach our youth of money management. Believe it or not, many U.S. schools refrain from teaching this important skill. The discussion of money doesn’t have to be taboo, if we can instill traits of living within our means, forking money away for the future, and reaching a financial goal, we are equipping them with the tools of success. Lately, I have made more of a conscious effort to continually discuss money - especially dinner costs, vacations and clothes. Hopefully through these routine discussions they will develop an awareness that benefits their decision making for the future.

Fashion your technique around corporate strategies – many companies reward their employees for self initiative (losing weight, quitting smoking and 401(K)s) provide incentives. Saving is tough; develop a model that works for you. I reward my kids with a dollar-for-dollar match. I love this lesson, it promotes saving through encouraging incentive and still rewards their hard work through occasional spending. Help them manage their money – if you are a notorious payment skipper, set up a savings account tied to a debit card at your local bank. That way you can transfer money on a scheduled basis. It teaches them structure and paying bills on time. As hard as it is, allowing our children to make mistakes and live with them builds character. Don’t bail them out! Children much like adults need to learn - I’m living proof of that. Have a wonderful week everyone, love and blessings.

TIME

Time is something that we need to use wisely. No matter our season or frame of life, it is a non-renewable resource that we should consider with care. I have taken a discerning approach this past week to closely observe my behavior and weigh in the results of how I budget my time... to my dismay my time needed a healthy modification.

I’ll be the first to admit that I have taken and abused my fair share of time management tablets. Their tasteful representation is frequently misleading and often distracting. Today our world is continually attracting our attention: While a phone call is one thing - Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail persistently entice our thoughts. The more and more we are connected, a challenge begins to develop in effectively managing our time.

Many people spend their entire lives trying to be as balanced as possible. By focusing on our strengths in manageable goals throughout the day (1-3 tasks), we are allowing ourselves to be efficient and discover a refreshing perspective. I encourage you to take an inventory of your day and truly maximize its potential by making a conscious decision to better your life.

Here are some helpful ways to value your time to its highest potential:

-Reduce e-mail usage, check twice a day instead of every 35 seconds. Quickly move to once a day, preferably the middle portion.

-Reawaken your passion: Focus on becoming the absolute best at your good abilities, and stop focusing on fixing your problems.

-Scheduling walks with your significant other/pet will invite your mind to dream and be creative.

-Keep it simple: Work hard and love your family

Head in the Clouds

Lately, my sights have lifted to an exquisite phenomenon… suspended in an ethereal realm of peace they are one of most powerful and beautiful compositions on earth. Their elevated presence intrigues the masses as a living breathing reality and provides our daily dose of therapy. I have found clouds magnificence inspiring… not only its architectural makeup but its encouraging spirit to dream.

I have fond memories this summer traveling with my brother Jason. We passed some amazing country… our home in Colorado was lovely to see in the morning, especially before dawn. To see clouds kissed by the sun and welcoming a new day was liberating. My consciousness was clear and my mind was at rest. During our return home, Utah offered one of the most surreal sunsets I’ve ever experienced. It was a remarkable display of tones and hues… I was speechless. All you could do was watch in adoration.

I love sharing in this revelry, there’s nothing like dreaming in the moment and/or sharing it with someone you love. These are the occasions we remember; I hope you understand your potential today and to never stop dreaming. I found this quote by Grey Livingston that spoke to me: “Dreams are free therapy. Consult your inner Freud.” I hope all of you are having a wonderful week, be blessed and be safe.

The mind is such a beautiful thing to marvel in… brilliant composers from across the world have presented masterful literary work in knowledge and learning. When we exercise its ability through routine reading, we are enhancing our social, mental and spiritual health. Much like conditioning our bodies through strenuous activity, sharpening one of our greatest assets can promote steady focus and character building qualities.

Growing up as a child I never read many books, other than the random assignments in school, books were a pretty low priority. Thankfully the books I did read left a lasting impression: C.S. Lewis – The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Ramona the Pest – Beverly Cleary and Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. These tantalizing tales of adventure, friendship and mortality fostered loving stories of life. Now a day’s reading has become a regular routine…

As I’ve gotten older I find myself reading many forms of literature – Novels, American History (WWII) and newspaper columns currently fit the mold. By broadening my perspective in voice and written outline, my mind is continuously bending… absorbing humanities distinguished track record and lasting legacy. I encourage you to train yourself, establish the beneficial traits of learning and allow the time to grow mentally.

I love this image: their mannerisms exhibit an everlasting likeness between male and female companions. Surmise to say this attraction bears frequent heartache and often leads to a path of isolation. A season(s) spent in meditation can promote new beginnings... while the focus to understand one another motivates our existence. Weapons of manipulation and insecurity overwhelm our potential - life has taught me to embrace my internal compass, following its direction intently and listening cautiously. Only when the shades of vanity are lifted can there be a healthy perspective in partnership. This theory applies to more than just our significant other, bonds of friendship suffer on a similar platform... we accept an ugliness fashioned around negative energy. A debilitating consequence begins to develop, causing turmoil within our spirit, almost like a poison effecting every cell and the core of our being. The truth is, we know better... a life spent with those who fail to acknowledge our gifts will never appreciate them. We must choose individuals who add substance to our life, inspiring love and variety. What will you choose... choose life!

The symbolism of fire entangles a powerful mixture of love, hate, and desire… its vivid color personifies a collectedness found in emotion and determination. Last night I had the opportunity to share in its flame, wandering the streets of Denver with my friend and photographer, Charles Hildreth (303 Magazine). Charles passion in photography strengthens an idea, surrounded in love and found in the emotions of life, his portraits decode life’s cryptic message. I admire his ability to discern and openly engage his targets with intensity… those who gaze upon his work are compelled to share in his reverence of beauty. While his images promote deep thought and reflection, the man behind the lens is nothing short of spectacular.

The Bolivian beauty - Dagmar Castrillo

I met Dagmar on our recent trip to Santa Monica California. Her heritage is proudly rooted from "the rooftop of the world," Bolivia. A country fixed against the majestic Andes in the lower west region. Our introduction couldn't have been more pleasant. I am compelled to share my experience with you as it has left a lasting impression on my heart and mind. Dag's aura clutches a beautiful energy that is found in the traditions and love of her people, a remarkable perspective that captures those around her.

Her perception was constantly in tuned by her environment. A conscience decision to view the world as it comes - enjoying life's simplest pleasures and reflecting in positive ways to soothe her soul. As a people flowing with the waves of existence, often times I feel we discount this humble awareness. I have learned through Dag's encouraging spirit to pause and absorb these moments in time. Only then will we appreciate our place on this earth and the lives we impact daily.

While her vision towards life is something to be exulted, the understanding of friendship conjures a hunger within... we have all experienced people who epitomize the love of selfishness and greed. I believe a character bound in kindness and devotion are few and far between - this treasure in closeness is sought for until our dying day and remains the struggle of our lives. Fashion with a taste of summer

I love this time of year… day light savings and long summer nights join an encouraging spell of adventure and soulful rejuvenation. Our home in Denver provides an epic back drop for the dog days of summer. The fresh air and elevated sites entice our neighboring borders with curiosity. There are many qualities to find inspiring about Colorado… flawless sunsets, and friendly faces provide the benchmark in Mile High status. While this native appeal staples our façade, there is a definite lacking in style and originality.

We find ourselves motionless in the field of fashion - caught in between east and west coast influence, Denver is looking for an answer… breathing our current season, the common theme in Denver embraces a relaxed and unoriginal frame of mind. Summer employs this talented notion openly, encouraging wearers to take the easy route in laziness. There has to be more to a person’s wardrobe than flip flops and cargo shorts. Surely our creativity extends beyond the realm of blah boring basics. Reverting to fashion in history and the progression of worldly societies, the generations have provided a distinguished taste of elegance and class. Call me old fashioned, but I believe my perspective sharpens an idea – a lifestyle applauding self esteem and respect.

There is nothing more attractive than a woman wearing a summer dress in style, enhancing her stems with a comfortable wedge or platform slingback (open-toed). Rings, embellished necklaces/earrings and seducing aromas are very much appreciated in my book. Guys often wonder why they can’t engage the female sex. Sorry gents, ladies appreciate a well dressed ensemble just as much as we do. Why does a baseball hat maintain your focal standpoint? Be creative!

En light of recent travels to the west coast, originality exists in fashion. It thrives in a refreshing manner – an alluring attraction found in imagination and attitude. It wasn’t until I was immersed in its entirety to really understand Denver’s predicament. Tasting fashion from different parts of the country is a wonderful experience. I can already witness JNava’s vision shifting towards a new and stimulating destination. My brother Jason continues to amaze my wonderment… his point of view is constantly evolving, challenging the trends of today with intensity.

We grow anxious for the next couple weeks! As the summer line continues to ship out, we have collaborated efforts with a band in Minneapolis MN called Solid Gold – their exclusive sound pairs perfectly for our upcoming commercial in August. Work for the upcoming commercial has also been shared with Casey Diedrick and Molly Burnett with Days of our Lives. We are thankful for their time and energy as we continue to grow as a company. It feels good to write again… even though we veer from our path sometimes, we always seem to find our way back ;)

As of lately, my taste in music has shifted back and forth on a generational plane. I find myself retreating to a time in history fashioned around ornamental elegance and European influence. The Baroque era (1600-1750) produced some idyllic composers – Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Frederic Handel and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. While their power in music finds root today, even more important is music’s ability to stimulate the senses. The significance of music can be seen throughout history and maintains a sustaining force in creativity and learning.

No matter the genre or persuasion, the melodies of music provoke internal rhythm – a connectedness found within the human body and mind. Research has provided a positive correlation to emotional, spiritual, and physical awakenings… a universal link shared among the nations.

I have found my recent affection for classical music soothing and refreshing. When I’m not working for JNava Clothing, my time is spent serving the citizens of West Metro Fire Rescue as a 911 Dispatcher. The environment is tense and often times turbulent – between chaotic radio traffic and enthusiastic callers, you can imagine my concern. These opposing demands fight with my body’s internal balance (homeostasis) and continually poke at my sanity. I stumbled upon the accented beauty of Mozart’s Sonata for two pianos in D major… Wolfgang’s rendition promotes a pacified state of relaxation, lowering blood pressure and pulse rate. The 16th and 17^th centuries paved a way in repetitious moods and contrasts; its reoccurring order continues to inspire students of learning and test taking routines.

Shifting forward in time, artists have found ways to connect with audiences in Rock n’ Roll (AC/DC), Rhythm & Blues (The Spinners), Gospel (Winans Family), Country (Charlie Daniels), Folk (John Denver), Jazz (Ramsey Lewis), Pop (Madonna) and Boogie Woogie (Albert Ammons) - the list is endless. While these distinctive genres provide a specific sound and energy, the premise remains the same – they fill our hearts and minds with euphoric overload!

The mesmerizing beats of music saturate our lives in every way - there is no denying its authority and melodious attraction. Nor its effects on fashion and sought after lifestyles. I love everything about music… the frolic to my step, the way I move my hips, and the constant urge to lift my arms in celebration. The collaboration of mind and body is food to the soul.

Last night’s conversation with two of my best friends welcomed a passionate discussion about religion. I’m not completely sure how we started talking about it, but the subject came up and the heat was on. Once uttered, its name and way of life stimulates zealous perspective and elevated blood pressure. Before I continue on today’s subject matter, let me first preface the benefits of meaningful conversations - psychologists at the University of Arizona in Tucson and Washington University in St. Louis confirm through positive research that meaningful conversations may give a sense of meaning in interactions with others, which may make people happier ~ Sharon Jayson

While the importance of purposeful conversation adds substance to our lives, certain subjects like religion conjure questions of life that need answering… more importantly why we’re here, why certain things happen and the meaning to life? Understanding our presence on earth is often mysterious and complex – through the centuries and today, religion maintains a presence of interest and turmoil. And since its existence, communities of organized religion across the world have followed blue prints of value, books of “how to” guide lining our self centered lives into a mold of purpose and hope. No wonder there’s so much debate.

Getting back to last night’s questioning… Zach and Claudia (best friends) began discussing the controversial aspects of religion, influenced and focused by a higher being and our will to know what’s right. On one hand you have Zach who is very analytical (right brained – outside thinker) focused on scientific methods and conclusive data. While Claudia fashions a view stapled in faith (firm belief in something for which there is no proof), her neurological position finds proximity between both hemispheres (logical/structured) – by no means am I labeling Zach simpleminded, he is honestly one of the brightest people I know. That’s what makes this discussion so difficult… so much of this topic rests on faith based principles and spiritual not knowing. For someone such as Zach, trying to wrap their mind around this veiled concept is very difficult to discern.

As the conversation continued, I listened anxiously… here we had two people, madly in love conversing on a level of intensity. It really was a sight – two brilliant minds dishing out meaningful and passionate chatter. At times, voices were raised, eyes rolled, and feelings were scratched. Silence was heard more times than one… offering moments of reflection and growth. Its times like these that I wish I had a video camera. I learned a lot this evening, many things.

All of us cope to life’s difficult demands through familiar means, whether its positive outlets such as friends or a super natural power, we find refuge in its strength. I truly believe that each religion presents examples of how we should live our lives. As a society, if this subject matter improves our life, provokes dedication and mediation, I’m all for it. This engagement showed me how two people can disagree and at the end of the day still find each other as attractive as before… inviting a wonderful opportunity into each other’s hearts and minds. I had to share my story, emotions lie heavy on my heart sometimes… the need to express my voice must be said.

Leigh Viner - The Artiste

Inspirations are powerful manifestations - they have the ability to change our lives and transform our blurred perspectives. There is so much beauty in this statement, especially if we are open and willing. The portrait above, designed by the lovely Leigh Viner sets the tone for today's inspirational brilliance. Leigh's work exudes a feminine naturalness - depicted in expressive hues and free-flowing postures, her genius extends an artistic gap worthy of praise. I feel extremely honored to share her one-of-a-kind pieces and am grateful to call Leigh my friend.

The interview:

What do you love about living in Denver? dislike?

LV: I was born and raised in Denver so it is a place I will always call home and have a love for where I came from. I also appreciate what Denver has to offer as far as getting away easily to the beautiful Rocky Mountains just minutes away from the city. As far as dislikes, I try to stay keen to the positives so I really do not have any except for I want to eventually move eastward bound. I have been here for so long and feel the need to see what else this world has to offer for me.

If Denver inspires these passions ( art-photography-makeup-fashion), please elaborate on this inspiration...

LV: As far as Denver inspiring ( art-photography-makeup-fashion) I think it is all about tapping into resources that fall along those lines anywhere you may reside. I also have been lucky enough to be surrounded by other creative individuals that also live here and have helped spark collaborative projects and individual ideas that I may have never thought about.

Growing up as a kid, what did you want to do and why?? ;)

LV: I have been very blessed to always want to do something in the creative fields since I was young. Even more so as I find that others are still struggling to find their passions, so I am very appreciated to be able to experiment with my varied passions and let it grow and will continue to do so.

Your vision is clear... your eye for detail, paramount. How have you developed this, or was it always a natural inclination?
LV: Thank you Mark! I definitely feel that I have grown each year with my creations in all fields that I experiment with, but it being a passion for so long since I was young I feel that it is a natural inclination but fine tuned so to speak. I also feel that if I am comfortable where I am at I might as well through in the towel, I think it is important to continue to challenge and develop an already natural ability and see where else it may take me.

Favorite hang out spot in Denver?

LV: A few places that I love and when I get the chance to get out with being a Mom and all :) is for brunch on the weekend Crepe n Crepe downtown, also have been going to Steak 10 for years with my best friend, more of a quiet atmosphere to catch up without having to worry about yelling. Then once in awhile I love to just walk around Cherry Creek or Downtown and find new discoveries, but for the most part I am just hanging at my friends homes or inviting them over for cooked dinners and a few glasses of wine.

What movie captures your style?

A good tough question, but I am going to just throw out a mix of anything from Alfred Hitchcock, some David Lynch and Jean-Luc Godard I suppose..

What stimulates your style?
LV: What stimulates me the most is just as above, grabbing the feel of a good movie, thumbing through my (many) fashion magazines and listening to music. I really try to captivate moments that I am feeling a certain something, if I see something and it sparks that inspiration I write it down quickly or if I see an image that does the same thing, I will tear it out and mark ideas on what might work well.

Favorite online shop and why?

LV: I do love the addicting site that is GILT. Each day bringing in high end designers that I normally am not able to splurge on at huge discounts. Also shopping online is a luxury that I prefer anyway much better than visiting an overcrowded mall.

9. Your artwork bleeds a feminine energy... your focus in blending both color and posture work very well. Where does this come from?
LV: I think over time it just sort of falls into place. I follow a path that feels right and end up with something that I feel works well.

I never leave the house without?
LV: My camera, my bag full of everything I can fit and water.

Your favorite quote?

LV: I definitely love finding many of quotes and have so many great ones that I favor, but here is a recent one that I love by Miranda July,

"Life is so ridiculously gorgeous, strange, heartbreaking, horrific, etc., that we are compelled to describe it to ourselves, but can't! We cannot do it! And so we make art."

Last book you read? Or one that left a lasting impression...

LV: I am currently reading Lunch in Paris by Elizabeth Bard, also really loved Loving Frank by Nancy Horgan a great turnaround and digs into another side of architect Frank Lloyd Wright's life. I also felt a lasting impression from Eat, Pray, Love. I really enjoyed Elizabeth Gilbert's journey to finding herself again and I felt that I could relate on many levels with the moments she experienced in her memoir.

Your products and creativity infect all of us, what can you suggest to those following their dreams.

LV: My best advice is to learn from your mistakes and critics, face your fears, jump head first into your dreams and follow your heart. You will always have naysayers so to speak, but you are the only one that knows in your heart what is the best path for you. Most of all always stay true to yourself.

Examining fashion from the inside out is quite intricate – our perceptions and tastes towards beauty are continually transforming. While clothing embodies a need for self expression, the body, in its natural state propels our emotions. Their affiliation goes hand and hand. Silvan Tomkins from Princeton University felt that emotion was the code to life – The New Yorker, August 5^th 2002. Looking at this theory from a consumer’s standpoint has superlative meaning. The faces of fashion paint images of hope and promises of a lavish lifestyle - every so often a face appears that leaves a lasting impression.

The iconic face of Kate Moss and her naturally skinny frame delivered a monumental shift in the way we view beauty. The rise of the ‘superwaif’ (twiggy/heroin chic demeanor) generated controversy in the presidency and symbolized a brand new attitude in modeling and fashion. Before her breakthrough in 1993, her discovery unfolded at JFK airport in New York (1988). Sarah Doukas, owner of Storm Modeling Agency stumbled upon this isolated gem in all her naturalness. It’s easy to point the finger, criticizing a person’s character and lifestyle. It’s easy to judge, as humans we do this best and as a society no one is more unforgiving. I love the feminine energy that Kate Moss exhibits… there is a spirit of beauty and poise. Her beauty is treasured in the fashion world and her contributions unparalleled.

I am fascinated by beauty on so many levels; yes it exists in the physical, but even more important is the realization to see ourselves for who we are. Being comfortable in our own skin is extremely difficult. Beauty is skin deep, what do you see?

Today's subject matter has prevailed the centuries, it encompasses life as a whole and today finds its perpetual challenges. I wanted to share my brief but encouraging perspective on relationships and how we can grow as people. So much of our dealings as a human race stem from this imperative need to interact and flourish. Each and every one of us has a story to tell, all bearing witness to wounds that have been inflicted by those we love. Unfortunately the damage becomes our bane of existence and often cripples future relationships. My goal today is to encourage and breathe new life on this sensitive topic.

Our exposure at a very young age is our first glimpse of the confrontations that lie ahead. Positioned in the authority of our parents or lack there of, a pattern begins to develop, whether it's good or bad, it's in motion. Sadly, the guidance we often receive is a continual arrangement of generational misfortunes. We truly are creatures of habit - thankfully my up-bringing fashioned a model of positive occurrence. A father showing loving respect, and a mother with a heart of gold. An excellent foundation to gaze against growing up... please understand that I am not trying to harp on my fortunate childhood, but to point out the unity that is forged when partners see one another for who they are.

Even with favorable loved one's... my journey was still my own, no one could walk in my shoes but me. I'm sure most of us have shared similar experiences in betrayal, favoritism, ugliness, and jealousy. All conducive emotions in the realm of relationships - thankfully our knack for adaptation sails among us. We have the ability to choose our company and the company we keep. I have a difficult time conceding a person's argument/struggle based on a relationship(s) that is corrupted to begin with. Now, is it in my nature to stop listening?, or even refrain from giving advice? Absolutely not. But the point I'm trying to make is this: "Surround yourself with individuals who can speak life into you, build up, and respect the inner you." This choice is yours.

As we continue through the relationship cycle our viewpoint broadens... expanding to more than just our family circle and close knit friends. We acquire business relationships, and intimate ones. A monumental step in development, and a crucial time in discovering our personal character. So much of this step teeters on intentions - people are opportunists, without a doubt it's in our nature. But at what point do we draw the line? Harnessing self-control and looking bigger picture? This is a tough one, and one that often leads to learning the hard way - infidelity and divorce pave the way in shattered dreams. On the other side, the business environment requires traits of loyalty and ethical appeal. Once again, this subject matter evaluates your investment... suggesting your involvement and the cost of losing the prize.

I have been apart of same amazing relationships - one's that I've loved, one's that I've scarred, and one's that have left a lasting impression. 2009 was a big year for me, I learned more in relationships than I've ever experienced before. The most reassuring words I can express is this: "Communicate regularly - our past does not have to define us, If you share in something special with someone, and this person makes you happy, treat her or him accordingly... revere the blessing. Nurture it like you would your garden, or passions in your life." It's bounty will overflow and continually bestow life's treasures upon you. I hope this has helped in some form or fashion to inspire you to look at relationships differently, to make positive changes at a better life and a life of purpose. Everyday presents moments of human development and interludes of self reflection. Tonight manifested an emotional realization, thoughts and feelings that must be expressed. My inspiration came from a TV series called Parenthood on NBC. Its premise taps into the heart of the family, portraying the everyday struggles parents and kids/teenagers address day in and day out. The writers have done an outstanding job. The acting is emotionally exposed and telling - offering subliminal advice in humor and meaningful sequences. I'm not much of a TV guy, but this one captured my curiosity.

The pictures I chose depict happiness, diversity, love, frustration, and overall - celebrations of life. Each one of these bears a particular time in our life and the essence of a family. No family is perfect and no matter how hard we try our inhibitions and defects remind us of this... while this conclusion is negative, its ability to govern our lives remains a conscious choice by none other than ourselves.

The family dynamic is continually maturing, as it should. And with that, personalities blossom into their rightful dispositions, or so we think. It's not that easy. A good friend of mine once told me: "Mark, the grass isn't always greener on the other side, it will be greenest where you water it." This has always stuck with me. Nothing compares to excellent words of wisdom. If there is anything you learn today, learn this... if you are involved in a serious relationship, dating, marriage, friend, or part of a family group, your willingness to participate depends on your heart. How much are you inclined to invest? Think about it... make the choice to give more of yourself. Life is way too short.

With Memorial Day impending, the warming of the seasons suggests a relaxed state of mind and fun in the sun! Every day I look forward to researching seasonal fashion and how it’s changed throughout the centuries – today we dissect thebathing suit and its slow but sure evolution to swim wear. With water occupying 70% of this beautiful earth, it’s no wondering our need for swim wear would reach a $13 billion dollar industry. The birth of swim wear has transcended generational gaps and has taken on many different shapes and materials.

In the early 1900s, many American Cities created laws that required all women in bathing suits to wear stockings.

Modesty laws were very strict in the early 1900s. In 1919, a woman was detained at Coney Island for wearing a bathing suit in public – under her street clothes.

Topless men were banned from the beaches of Atlantic City in New Jersey because the city didn’t want “gorillas on our beaches.” It wasn’t until 1937 when men finally won the right to wear just swimming shorts without a shirt.

In its early stages, designs for both men and women were modest and simple. Before the retrieval of synthetic materials, wool or flannel was the fabric of choice. Over time its function would permit more than seaside bathing… the refreshing element of water and societal change encouraged new and exciting water sports – surfing, swimming, water polo, water skiing, scuba diving and wake boarding.

The bikini is named after the islands in the Bikini Atoll in the North Pacific's Marshall Islands where the U.S. tested the atomic bomb in 1946. Both the tiny swimsuit and the bomb had an explosive influence on American culture.

Sex symbol Diana Dors appeared at the 1955 Venice Film Festival in a mink bikini.

When the Barbie doll debuted on March 9, 1959, her first outfit was a black-and-white striped swimsuit.

The last time Marilyn Monroe appeared in a bikini on screen was in the 1962 film Something's Got to Give

Our recent trip to the Pacific Northwest was definitely noteworthy. And seeing as though we are wishing to expand our borders to the west coast, Seattle lied in our midst. During our visit we met some inspiring talent, Dana Landon (Seattle's one and only street style blogger - itsmydarlin.com) and the young Michael Cepress. A fashion designer by trade, but more importantly, Michael's vision bolsters a vision tailored specifically to menswear. Jason and I were in heaven!

Our engagement was surreal... Michael's showroom was neatly tucked around a corner bearing his scripted distinguished label - MC. His clothing is character defining, timeless and expressive. I believe every man should own a suit, in the convicting words of Gianni Agnelli "If you can afford a high-grade custom-made suit, buy one. It will forever change the way you think about getting dressed in the morning. The perfect contoured lines, increased comfort factor, and inarguable elegance are addictive." This seamstress addresses Gianni's words of advice and more. Everything Michael creates shares his amazing talent in ties, bow ties, dress shirts, shorts, breeches, suits and cuff links. In person he is nothing short of classy and humble. We were truly honored to share this wonderful experience - It is so much fun to connect with those in similar fields and brainstorm the wonderful world of fashion.

This week we find ourselves in Seattle Washington - a state and community known for its robust living and delectable brew! Expanding our vision in fashion is exciting. I can't express these feelings enough - we are actually living and breathing our passion, with no expectations and an open heart. It's refreshing on so many levels and a reminder to embrace our ambitions with intensity.

Yesterday was a day of familiarization. Touring the shores of Puget Sound and sipping on a hot cup of Starbucks coffee.

The public market is a thriving environment... its sights and sounds blend an unforgettable experience.

Visitors paced up and down its vibrant runway... all in search for a piece of the Pacific Northwest to take home with them.

As we ventured into the heart of the town, Nordstrom and other world-renown retailers lined the streets. H&M, Gucci, and Barney's to say the least! A wonderful first day. Our adventure continues... today was a spectacular day in networking and meeting fresh faces. Tomorrows blog features Seattle street-style, check it out.

These recent motivators have given glimpses into their short lived existence… for those of you who have seen Disney’s classic rendition or read Gath Stein’s novel, you gain a biased perspective into my passion for dogs and the need to recognize their beautiful attributes.

A dog’s resume is peerless. Their genetic traits fashion heightened senses and supreme intellect. Since their inception 15,000 years ago, dogs have been bred to perform numerous tasks – herding livestock, hunting, guarding, pulling loads, police, rescue, therapy, and service.

Petting dogs is proven to lower blood pressure of dog owners.

On an average, dogs can understand about 200 words and this includes signals and hand movements.

Proven analysis has shown a positive correlation to human health, both psychological and physical. A dog’s spirit is contagious… its tail, eyes, and gait constantly work in sync. Their vitality for life and living in the moment causes one to think the same.

My appreciation for the United States military runs deep… WWII invited their talented ability to scout, alarm, and messenger through difficult terrain.

The most popular breed in Canada, U.S., and the United Kingdom is the Labrador retriever. My girl Emma is a chocolate lab - she is seriously part human. When I speak to her, she always listens and never complains. Their simple gifts aid our lives in so many ways… healthy reminders to stretch in the morning, give kisses, smile when greeted, and lie in the sun.

Golden Retrievers may improve a person’s chance of attracting a date.

During the Middle Ages, Great Danes and Mastiffs were sometimes suited with armor and spiked collars to enter a battle or to defend supply caravans.

If you have not invested in this priceless companion, I would encourage you to do so. My life is enriched on so many levels, with so many wonderful experiences shared so far. Emma has changed my views on life and promotes constant reflection within myself.

My quest in fashion research continues… with the warming of the season’s, never did its function and design become more apparent -before their popularity went extreme in the 1930s, our Chinese neighbors had already adopted an unused form of eye protection centuries before. Used in a court room setting, smoke-colored quartz lenses guarded its wearer from eye expressions. Hardly functional outside its double doors, the 20^th century gave birth to a new objective, an advanced twist on eye wear. Learning that our environment is fierce and unforgiving, Sam Foster understood this… having created his first pair of Foster Grant sunglasses on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ – suddenly, and across the nation people were talking about Foster’s new craze!

This emerging trend would inspire two key ingredients… necessity and style. With WWII brewing in the east, Ray Ban introduced its classic aviator outline with polarized lens technology (Edward H. Land, Polaroid Company) in 1936. This original design proved effective for American pilots and above all perennially cool. Prompted by this innovative discovery, musicians and celebs hopped on board. Their degree of expression became an indispensable commodity and above all, a focal point in the fashion world.
