Be a storyteller in Library Serangoon Nex

2018-10-26T07:43:00.002-07:00

Recently I keep thinking to open up my old blog. Today I wish to blog about my daughter Sabrina, time flies she is 13 year old. She has grow up alot. She has started her storytelling in National Library since she was Primary 4, and at the same year S started her GEP journey in Nanyang Primary. Transfer school from CHIJ Tao Payoh to Nanyang. How to be a good storyteller? she had started her very first session in Clementi after 3 hours training at Kallang Library on 14 Nov 2015. Due to her age, I have not very confident that she could take the whole session 30mins storytelling duration, so I tried to find one of S's classmate share the session , each child handle 15mins. To my suprise, she could hangle the session very well. even her first lesson showing she was quite nervous. overall still Pass.As a parent I also tried my best to guide her, advised her how to bring up the storyline for each book. schedule her 2/3 times practice for each session.Sometimes, she will grumble about why she has to do storytelling in Library? why cant she just enjoy? Ok before I continue to write about storytelling,I want to explained why I want Sabrina to be a volunteer storyteller in National Library. I used to bring S to do Volunteering in Daycare since she was 6. We had continue to serve daycare till she was primary 3. After she study in Nanyang we cant do weekly volunteer work in daycare anymore. then we only went during holidays. Very soon we actually stop the volunteering in daycare. After 2 sessions with her classmate. She had gain confident to do alone on 12 Mar 2016. We choose a Library nearer to our house, Library at Nex,Serangoon. A lot of parents impressed by her, praise her asking about her age, asked about her school... Sabrina was very happy praising by parent. She also less grumbling about it. Yes, We will clock in this volunteering as CIP hours in her school.

I bought this : $198 per pax for 3D2N Cameron Highlands Strawberry Park Resort Studio Suite Room Stay with Breakfast + Steamboat Dinner + 2 Way Coach (Worth $450)from Groupon for short family trip through Konsortium travel agency.
Our journey to Cameron Highlands started on 21 Jun 10.30pm, S enjoyed TV games on the coach, sleep after one stop at YongPeng Johor.
@ 6.47am,we reached Cameron Highlands with motion sickness inducing bus ride,S vomited once on the way up to the Brinchang, Cameron Highlands. We lucky enough to witness our family first sunrise in the Cameron Highlands when we was still on the bus. Feel great on our amazing world.

Sky slowly covered by orangerie..

30mins later, coach stopped us at Brinchang town for breakfast at the same time waiting for their tour guide to give briefing on Cameron Highlands and selling their tours package.

Feel so happy that we finally reached our distination. I quickly get off the bus with S without brought jackets along. Eeeee morning freezing cold. Get on the bus again for our jackets.

We had wantons mee and hot milo.. hmmm not very good. so so...

Tour briefing started at 8.20am, we bought 2 package 1)Nature Discovery Tour RM60 Adult and RM50 Child ,2) Agro Delight Tour RM 65 Adult and RM55 Child from Titiwangsa Tours & Travel.
9.30am, we had already at Strawberry Park Resort.. a bit too early for check-in our hotel room.

while waiting, we had a walk at Strawberry Park Resort Garden.

Cooling weather, fresh air that you can't find it in Singapore. S had fun picking up flowers and leaves on the ground.

We would find different type of flowers and plants in the garden.

Can I reach up the top of this tree ?

S also have a good time in their children playground.. Eco playground.

About 10.30am, I saw a couple that same coach with us from Singapore were walking up the resort with their luggages. Wow! can early check-in @ 1030am, we quickly ran back to the hotel.
The room very model and very spaces.

We had caught a good rest in the room before set off our tour package in the afternoon at 2pm. Agro Delight Tour.
First, we stop at Cactus farm..

Organic farming-broccoli, sweet corns

Interesting part: eating raw sweet corn. very nice to eat and sweet.S and Daddy keep asking for more.

Water-cress farm-grow it naturely by itself. We also taste it on the spot.

Strawberry farm with self picking of strawberry. They will estimate the amount and we need to pay in advance before we went in.

Lettuce delight-Hydrophonic Farming

Last stop at Flower nursery- We only see "chrysanthemum" and no much blooming. a bit difficult to walk in.. S and I slipped a few times.

The package inclusive of veg steamboat buffet on veg.. hahaha not bad. nice to have steamboat in this cold weather.

We enjoyed our first day.

2012-06-19T19:03:00.004-07:00

TV !
We had off TV for about 2 years..even thought grandparents they were very supportive about this idea. if they need to watch their favourite Chinese drama's they need to use small tv in their room.no TV in the living room.
Giving S a healthy environment.. take care of her eyes sight problem, last year we still allowed S watched some of the tv programs. Until this day, S almost totally no TV on her life.
As a parent, we also trying to give her a healthy life style."Go Outdoor", go more greenery place !
Botanic Gardens is ours favourite place in this June holiday. One of the fav activities that all children likes the most " Birds feeding or Fishes feeding."
I tried to arrange S go out with her friends.. so that she wouldn't always feel alone.

This few day, S again complained me always on FB and on computer.
This new play toy "giant disc" that I got from Toysrus @ $7.90 is very soft and safe to play with younger children.
Playing Frisbee is a good exercise for children.. run, jump, caught. Playing in a group is even more fun.

Running is also S favourite sports ! always run like a crazy girl. She always wanted to have a race with her daddy.

http://tongfamilysabrina.blogspot.sg/2012/06/east-coast-park.html
Mummy ! size of mine feet just the size of one giant toe !

So happy playing with a balloon !!

Due to the hot weather and e timing at 12.30pm," to avoid sunburn. I let S do some Chinese homework at beach site, with a nice and strong sea breeze. Could it be more relaxing and comfortable to do homework in the beach ? I think it is a nice idea :)
Too bored for daddy to wait for S ????

Look ! S could concentrated on her work.

after her 3 pages of Chinese homework. We went to search for a place that less expose to the sun.

S likes 'Sand' and 'Sea' more than cycling or roller blading when she was in the beach.

So nice to sleep ?? S not really enjoy taking pictures when she was having the fun. She always said "Mummy ah !".

Sand touch-Teaching the kids about the five senses (sight, smell, sound, taste, touch). Sit by the surf and rub sand all over yourself what is the feel ? feel great!

Sand play help physical development. Muscle skills develop as children dig, pour, sift, scoop. Eye-hand coordination with small muscle control well improve as children learn to manipulate sand accessories.

learn about how strong is e wind come with how strong e waves..

Always enjoy e water play..elderly said salt water is good for a wound ??? Is that true ?

Good exercise when you were running in the water ! Water running is very tiring.. not easy do it in long hour 5 to 10Min's will be enough for younger child.

Not easy to be a daddy especially with S is a active child, need a lot of energy to play with her, patience, time, love all that you need as a parent.Daddy has more patience with her. Daddy also very supportive on all the activities that I had arranged.

Great father and daughter bonding time.."Parents" our children needs us to be around with them. Spending time laugh together with them.

Playing with them

Have a wonderful dream together

Give them your spiritual !

For me ! I'm less playing with S when her daddy is around with her.

I likes caught a nice photo.

We trying hard to give her the better childhood life.. we were learn how to be a good parent.

So much fun at the beach. We, parents tired but my little S still want to continual her day at Bedok Library.

How much Outdoor Play Does your Child Need ?

2012-06-15T20:15:00.005-07:00

S need long hours outdoor play time in a day, Other wise you will hear her complaining about too boring nothing to do , can I read a book, mummy ?
After piano lesson S has part 2 playground time at Bishan Park. This is S favourite spot. A turning wheel.

She could spend her whole day in this spot ! I didn't know what is so fun about this wheel ! I can't take it those turning games. That's make me feel so dizzy.

Develop them in good social skills and easy to make friends with others in the playground. Play more and laugh more ! Laugh from a true heart ! Playground is a place where we can play and laugh and share and grow together !

A balancing training ! not easy to be standing up on this turning wheel. Parents need to be around for guiding.Make sure they are in safe environments.

A good place to train for fine and gross motor skills.

A nice day at Playground

2012-06-15T15:16:00.004-07:00

Is a Friday! Is A hot day too.
S had finished her morning homework 2 pages of Chinese and 4 pages of Maths Mock Exam Papers:) after that She spend about 3 hours play pretending games with 婆婆 at home. Stop for lunch @ 1230pm.
She had a overall piano practice before the lesson start at 4pm. She has done everything before 2pm. 2 hours more to 4pm, If I was let her staying at home, she surely wanted to read her book to avoid spending too much time on reading. I need to bring her go outdoor play.

We were cycling under HDB block to block, come to this playground behind e little hill. I am a kampung child. I aware how important that kids need to be exposed to different kind of outdoor games. When they do something like climb up a little hill, child gain important physical skills, body balance and strength from legs. Outdoor play will adds sense of confidence in their future learning journey in school.

Children enjoy played without paying a single cent.

We could easily find a nice playground under our HDB block.

A butterfly keeps flying around the playground that nearer to S. Looks like wanted said to S "Can I play with u?"

Where is my friend ? Butterfly, Are you trying to play hide and seek with me ?

Allow kids to run, jump and play with more energy. That's will help child sleep well in the night and improve of their health.

This "SUDOKU" is volume 50 with 9 boxes. I told S is too difficult for her but I will teach her the concept of puzzles(rules) first then will get her a easy version. Surprisingly, S caught the concept very fast.
I done one puzzle with her slowly, and her tried one by herself slowly. She could solve all e 9 boxes :).
Now, She love this games.
Sudoku requires you to use concentration, logic, common sense and problem solving skill that will help to strengthen your brain.
Behind of the puzzles written down :-

Is the right timing to teach about "How to Appreciate Your Parents ?"

Sometimes, S will forgot about value of appreciation, appreciate the efforts that we had give it to her. Just like we have given her an apple but she asking for oranges, strawberry ,grapes.... and again and again. Demanding more from us. She need to learn. I was telling her always said " Thank you" no matter how is the food taste or not nice ? or the place that parent bring you fun or not ?

The Singapore Art Museum will host its inaugural Children's Season in May. Young people will be introduced to contemporary art in an interactive, supportive and fun family environment. The entire SAM at 8 Queen Street building
will be transformed into magical art gardens showcasing artist projects and artworks inspired by nature. Selected for their imagination and interactivity, these displays will be accompanied with captions to engage young visitors with the art works. Activity sheets inspired by the art works will enhance the children's learning experience. Young visitors can also participate in a series of artists' workshops and enjoy short film screenings.
