Historic Beatles Press Conference Tapes to be Auctioned

Two original “Kodak Sound Recording Tape” reels with approximately 14 minutes of audio of a Beatles press conference will be auctioned on June 13. A photojournalist recorded the August 17, 1966 press conference at the King Edward Hotel in Toronto. The tapes have been in a drawer for more than 40 years. Reporters question John Lennon on his recent controversial comments on Jesus Christ and one journalist asks how long they think the band will stay together. Lennon responds, “We’re obviously not gonna go around holding hands forever” and McCartney adds “...it would be a bit, you know, embarrassing at 35...” The reel-to-reel recording is expected to sell for up to $25,000 at a Los Angeles sale at Bonhams and Butterfields on June 13.

Claiming to be a Beatles fan is an act of courage in this world, as Beatle fandom doesn’t seem to allow for middle-of-the-spectrum devotion: Either you’re trekking to Abbey Road on the River-type festivals each summer and can recite track lists and release dates for both the U.K. and U.S. albums, or you like “Love Me Do” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” just as much as the next guy. There is no in-between.
Well, maybe there is … I’d rate myself a low B/high C in terms of my Beatles knowledge, especially in comparison to some of the fans I’ve encountered (whose ranks include not one but two long-term ex-boyfriends, as well as classmates from a Beatles Ensemble guitar class at Chicago’s own Old Town School of Folk Music). Sure, I may know the story behind “I Am the Walrus” (in that there really is no story), and I’ve even been to two Abbey Road festivals (with members of the aforementioned class, naturally), but if you start talking to me about B-sides and unreleased tracks and demos and, hell, Pete Best, you probably will know just as much as, if not more than, I do.
So it’s been said: C+ general-knowledge base, folks. And let us proceed

According to a BBC doc, the band's separation in 1970 was only the beginning of Beatlemania

Some people predicted the Beatles and their music would be quickly forgotten once the group officially disbanded in 1970. In reality, it was only the beginning of Beatlemania.

There never was and maybe never will be another music group with the staying power of the Beatles. Even though two members have since passed on, the Fab Four have never really faded out of the public consciousness.
