doves. and tattoos.

2012-03-07T21:09:00.000-05:00

A friend got a new tattoo this week.

It has had me thinking.

The only thing so far in my life I've been a bit of a coward about is this.

tattoos.

doing something so permanent to my body that I'm basically BOUND to regret it.

Not forever but prolly for a while.

I know exactly what I will probably get one day....

...whenever that day is...

Outline of a dove.

in white.

my mom had a necklace she passed down to me...

that I wore so much it broke.

it was a gold, oh so delicate, sketching of a dove.

and the dove is so many things but always exactly what I need.

grace. faith. peace. promise.

if i get these grants and we go to France I'm getting the tattoo.

as a memorial that there's no turning back.

actually.... I'm prolly going to need to get it now

because regardless of the grants there is no turning back.

it shall be some child of the three following images:

tidbit: if they could do tattoos in gold I would've had this a long time ago.

No longer mine.

2012-03-06T20:55:00.000-05:00

This is Marilyn:

She was afraid to come out for 4 days.

Then she was not afraid at all and started pawing me awake at night.

She is now is owned by someone who enjoys being pawed awake.

tidbit: decidedly not a cat person.

score.

Total Crap.

2012-03-05T20:44:00.000-05:00

So we made those videos for our dear friend Steph whom you all know.

According to some REALLY poor choices on the part of WOWps, they've disqualified a number of contestants from competing because they registered after an initial date that was published.... but the second date was published too.... so she wasn't actually late.

It's weird and complicated and SUPER irritating because she flew out to CO for this.

Alas I'm sure a blessing will arise from somewhere.

still. for now: it really sucks.

-sasha-

Boo WOWps.

Animated.

2012-02-24T23:46:00.000-05:00

I'm being animated.

As in an animation is being drawn for me

So excited.

As a part of this process I had to literally take hundreds of pictures of my boots:

All right.... only like 8 pics.

But that's plenty right?

tidbits: drawing boots is difficult.

Socks.

tbS: Piccolo Cafe

2012-02-22T23:31:00.000-05:00

There is an amazing cafe in midtown.

It's unassuming.

I promise- you'll love it.

Piccolo Cafe:

They've omelets, sandwiches, salads and excellent coffee.

and BONUS - It's run by charming Italian men.

About ten bar stools are all that fit for seating but it never stopped me from

having lovely conversation side by side and sitting for a while enjoying the passersby.

A beautiful space, birch accents, old newspapers.

just adorable.

affordable

and

delicious!

I believe this was the parmesan egg sandwich:

tidbit: I love me an egg sandwich.

Better Than Planking

2012-02-21T12:54:00.000-05:00

Marketing.

It's real.

We got these new business cards for my church (www.c3manhattan.org) and have been charged to:

a. leave them places

b. take random pictures of them in daily life

We ran away with this idea....

this is the most unexciting one:

this is THE most exciting one:

tidbit: kids love hearts. and cards.

tbF&D: SoCo Creamery!

2012-02-20T12:03:00.000-05:00

sauce & brother!

2012-02-18T12:02:00.000-05:00

Recipe!

Put in deep sauté pan or wide sauce pan:

Olive oil to cover bottom of pan (very thin layer)

1 chopped clove of garlic

1 chopped small yellow onion or 1/2 big one

Salt & Pepper (5 or so twists or shakes of each)

1. Sauté on Medium High until onion is golden brown. Stirring frequently so onion and garlic don’t stick to bottom of pan.

MEAT OPTIONS: Add 1lb meat (ground beef, turkey, chicken, or lamb….. when meat is cooked….

2. Add 1 can of puréed tomatoes (or crushed) & 1 can of tomato paste. Add 2 bay leaves.

VEGETABLE OPTIONS: add zucchini, fresh tomatoes, summer squash, eggplant, spinach etc.

SPICE OPTIONS: add oregano, parsley, thyme, sage, tarragon, rosemary, herbs de provence or whatever you’re inspired by.

3. Turn down to Low and let simmer for 1hr.

Mmmmm OPTIONS: add some whipping cream, sour cream, or mozzarella balls/slices, or any other interesting cheese to “vodka” sauce it up a bit.

4. Remove bay leaves before serving.

Sombreros.

2012-02-17T02:21:00.001-05:00

Cut to the chase.

In every conversation you have today.

treat this as a game.

be ruthless.

maybe then you can make a coffee cup man with a sombrero.

#bonus

tidbit: sombrero wearers are always smiling.

I think there's something to this.

Cat & Apologies

2012-02-16T02:12:00.000-05:00

I've already back date posted....

but this is what went up on the YouTube so it only felt fair.

I keep running into the problem that I leave the videos until the end of the day to film.

And then when I get home at the end of the day the first thing I do is de-cute myself.

#tricky

tidbit: de-cute is a very minimal process:

1. change out of dirty city clothes and into comfy clean clothes.

2. Take off all jewelry.

3. wash face & brush teeth (even if you're going to eat again...)

done.

-sasha-

Scripts.

2012-02-15T02:16:00.000-05:00

I wrote a play.

well. kind of.

I lived a story.

I got it on some pages.

I submitted it to FringeNYC yesterday.

Also important to note.... this happened in 4 days (the script writing).

here here to pushing our limits.

#winning

tidbit: when you have an idea for a project, check the deadlines immediately. As opposed to letting it percolate for two months then telling a friend who informs you about said deadline.

-sasha-

It's that day.

2012-02-14T02:09:00.000-05:00

I decided I actually had my best ever Valentine's Day this year.

It wasn't because of what I did do.

It was because....

I didn't feel lonely and depressed.

and

I didn't feel stupid excited and dumb about a boy.

I found and partied in the happy middle.

and apparently thank the heavens because.....

tidbit: juicer turned out to be quite easy to clean.

#thankheavensforcoldseason

not actually sure what season NYC is in these days but it sure doesn't feel like winter.

in the meantime...

here's jess to amuse you.

tidbit: netty pots.

FAIL

2012-02-11T02:04:00.000-05:00

SO truth be told.

I recorded this video on Monday.

Let's note I was wearing the same shirt in ALL the videos this week.

this is a FAIL because I am no longer going on said road trip. I had hopes. But other things are happening and this would be a minority foolish, well really majorly foolish time for me to take on anything additional.

But steph will be at WOWps and rocking it out.

tidbit: if we could vote we'd vote for steph.

more worthwhile tidbit: poetry slams are judged by strangers in the audience. if you don't know someone competing you can judge. you don't have to know ANYTHING about poetry. #riskybusiness
