Lima, Peru-born artist Cecilia Paredes, works with her assistants, she creates photo performance based works that have her seamlessly blended into backgrounds. Acting as both the photographer and the subject, she uses make-up, body paint and any costume she needs to make her virtually disappear.

"The illusion of 'disappearing' into the landscape that surrounds her, is in reality a blending, she is now 'part of the landscape' in her quest of belonging," Paredes explains to us. "The theme behind all is re-location after displacement and migration and how one has to adjust in order to belong. Tough it is, but it has to be done, without forgetting our origin."

The intricate backgrounds add an interesting and complicated dynamic to these pieces. While in some cases the photographer is turned away from the camera, her carefully chosen pose adding drama to the piece, in still others we can see the whites of her eyes, giving us that haunting feeling of discovering something we shouldn't.

Born in Faisalabad, Pakistan, the little Arfa Karim was only 5 when she first came across these strange white "boxes" in her school which later she knew were computers. "When you push a button, something magically appears on the box" said Arfa.

After she persuaded her father to buy her one, Amjad Karim â€“who serves with a U.N. peace making force in Africa, began to notice his young daughter's extraordinary "technical" talent, that's when he convinced APTECH â€“an advanced computer institute near their home- to enroll her as a student for she was still too young to apply.

In 2005, the people at the institute amazed with her unique aptitude, informed her father that Arfa might actually be in a position to seek Microsoft certification; and after only four months of hard work and dedicated study â€“over summer- the little girl genius passed the exam for developing Windows applications! A process that would've normally taken a year to accomplish.
Being the youngest person to ever obtain this certification â€“Arfa was certified at only 9 years of age- she got the chance to fly to the USA and meet Mr. Gates himself.

Arfa took the Microsoft people there by surprise with her wit, intelligence, and even audacity.

During her one-on-one with Bill Gates, she talked about lots of things, asked him many questions, such as why there weren't much women working at the company, she thought the number of male and female employees should be equaled , she also asked him why they wouldn't hire someone her age. She also made no secret she was surprised with the dress code there as she thought they'd all be in suits, and dropped the bare truth that meeting Gates fallen only second to Disneyland on her list of the things she wanted to see in America.

Following that encounter, Arfa was regarded as a celebrity in Pakistan and was held as an icon and a role model! Pakistanis celebrated her everywhere, and took pride of her.

Arfa expressed her dream of going to Harvard University or MIT to complete her studies in order to become a developer or a satellite engineer.

Unfortunately, the little genius won't be able to fulfill her dream, for Arfa Karim, Pakistan's pride, died at the tender age of 16 after an epileptic seizure that left her in a coma back in December, and eventually led to a cardiac arrest in early January that sent her soul to heavens.

Arfa karim may be gone, but never forgotten. May god rest her soul!

Feta Salmon Salad Recipe

Ingredients

1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley flakes 1/4 teaspoon pepper 4 salmon fillets (6 ounces each) 1 package (5 ounces) spring mix salad greens 1 large cucumber, chopped 1 large tomato, chopped 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese 1/4 cup red wine vinaigrette
Directions

Combine the seasonings; sprinkle over salmon. Using long-handled tongs, moisten a paper towel with cooking oil and lightly coat the grill rack Grill, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from the heat for 8-12 minutes or until fish flakes easily with a fork.
In a large bowl, combine the salad greens, cucumber, tomato and feta cheese; divide among four plates. Top with salmon; drizzle with vinaigrette.

Double K Grilled Salmon Recipe

Prep: 10 min. marinating Grill: 20 min. 8 Servings

Ingredients

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup soy sauce

3 tablespoons unsweetened pineapple juice

3 tablespoons red wine vinegar

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce

1 salmon fillet (2 pounds)

Directions

In a small bowl, combine the first nine ingredients.

Pour 3/4 cup into a large resealable plastic bag; add salmon.

Seal bag and turn to coat; refrigerate for 1 hour, turning occasionally.

Set aside remaining marinade for basting.

Drain and discard marinade. Using long-handled tongs,

moisten a paper towel with cooking oil

and lightly coat the grill rack. Place salmon skin side down on rack.

Grill, covered, over medium heat or broil over medium heat for 5 minutes.

Brush with reserved marinade. Grill or broil 15-20 minutes longer or until

fish flakes easily with a fork.

A portrait of Amy Winehouse made of pills. Using 5,000 multicoloured tablets, artist Jason Mecier created the 17 x 21 inch picture to honour the singer's short life. He creates his portraits of celebrities using junk, pills and sweets. Jason sometimes uses items donated by the stars themselves to complete his pieces. Jason explains: "Celebrities really do send me items. Most people send me anywhere from a shoebox to a trash bag full of things to incorporate into their portraits. I have a bag of Pam Anderson's laundry, and a letter Paris Hilton wrote me from prison."

Jason says his Lady Gaga portrait "has some Hello Kitty merchandise that was used in her famous photo shoot." He says his portraits take at least 50 hours, but many take much, much longer - Lady Gaga took him almost two months and hundreds of hours.

Algae In China

Green algae covers beaches and the sea in Qingdao, China

Children swim in water covered by a thick layer of green algae at Zhanqiao Pier in Qingdao, a port city in Shandong Province, China

The algae which has washed up onto on the beaches of Qingdao is only a small part of a 410-square-km green algae bloom in the Yellow Sea, which is being blown towards Qingdao.

Though the green algae is not toxic, it can consume large amounts of oxygen, threatening marine life. Also, rotting algae emits a foul smell.

Workers and volunteers have cleaned more than 240 tons of green algae from the coastline of Qingdao, since the algae bloom began a month ago.

Qingdao was hit by green algae in 2007 and 2008. Residents and soldiers removed tens of thousands of tonnes of it before the Olympic sailing events.
