"Start Faster" Addon For Firefox Makes Loading Time Faster By 2x

In my quest to get the fastest possible experience with our beloved Firefox web-browser here we have another trick to get upto 2x faster start-up of Firefox on Windows OS, Firefox addon "Start Faster" does exactly what it's name suggests making use of some clever tinkering with core OS "prefetch" functionality to make the web-browser loading time faster.

A large proportion of our startup time is spent on loading the Firefox library(.dll, etc) files. This is true on all of our platforms. In my previous post I thought I discovered a way to load the Firefox binaries more efficiently on Windows(bug 627591). Further testing revealed that to not be true in all cases and that the Windows Prefetch service was still killing our startup speed. Microsoft does not seem to provide a way to opt out of the Windows Prefetch ‘service’.
There is a DIY way to opt out of prefetch by gaining Administrator privileges and deleting files out of the prefetch directory. Our is plan is to provide a Windows service to handle Firefox updates (bug 481815). Additionally the service would be able to do useful things like delete prefetch files, defragment Firefox databases(or at least help report on fragmentation levels).

This is all tricky stuff.
In the meantime, to test my theory I wrote a test extension. This is a restartless extension that adds a Windows service and a wrapper executable to significantly speed up Firefox startup after rebooting (oh the irony!). After installing the extension, “Faster Firefox” shortcut on the Desktop should result in up to 2x speed up in Firefox startup. This addon is a rough proof of concept to play with while I bake this functionality into Firefox. Comments, improvements are welcome. Note that launching Firefox by shortcuts other “Faster Firefox” is slower while this extension is installed (this will be fixed once preloading functionality is integrated into Firefox properly). This addon does not yet work on XP because I do not yet have an XP enviroment to test/develop in (patches are welcome).

It is true that fonts are the integral part of Web designing & Graphics and choosing the best from thousands of fonts installed on our computer by selecting each one by one and looking which looks perfect, It’s a very time consuming task.

The problem is not only mine. Most of the designer waste lots of time in picking up the unique and beautiful fonts for their design. I found a new service which lets you clearly preview all the fonts installed on your computer.

Wordmark.it is a free and simple web based tool that previews all the fonts it finds on your computer. The service is very easy-to-use. Suppose you have to make a logo for your new website then you just have to open wordmark.it and enter your blog name. It scans your computer for all the available fonts and preview the text (Blog Name) in fonts installed on your computer all at once. Look at the below image.

The preview size can be adjusted and you can also see it in positive and negative. You can pick the ones you like and filter them out from the rest to fine tune you selection. (ii) You cannot subst network drives

(iii) You cannot see this drive in Disk management.

One of the handiest features in Outlook is the ability to send a poll to people in your contact list. Not only do you receive a response to your question from each individual, but Outlook even tabulates the results for you.

This means you can send email invitations for a dinner party Of course, there are more practical business purposes too, like asking a group of employees how many of them need help with a project. The possibilities are endless.

Sending a Poll :-

Outlook 2007 :-

Open Outlook. Click New and then Message. In the window that opens, click the Options tab. Towards the middle of this window, click the button that says Use Voting Buttons.

A drop down menu appears. You can choose several answer possibilities, such as approve/reject, yes/no, yes/no/maybe, or create a custom answer. In our example, the question is Are you coming to dinner?, thus a yes/no/maybe answer is appropriate.

Address your message to the appropriate people in your contact list. Make sure to ask the question, either in the subject line or in the body of the email. Click Send.

Outlook 2003:-

Open Outlook. Click New and then Message. Answering the Poll :-

A window appears asking if they want to send the message now with just the vote, or edit the response. If a more extensive reply is needed, your recipient can make their reply by simply selecting Edit the response before sending.

Tabulating the Results :-

After your recipients have replied, all that is left is to tabulate the results. To do this, go to your Sent Items folder and select your original message with the vote question. It has a special Iconbeside it.

In the message, click the Tracking box with Above Icon.

A new window will open showing the results of your poll.

Note: This voting function only works if your recipients are using Outlook. When tested in a web-based email account, the voting links did not appear.

Photo slide-shows are great additions to most Website. But, these fast-loading shows are a pain to make without the proper, expensive Flash programming software and a bit of programming knowledge.

One quick and easy way to make one of these shows without any knowledge or software investment is by using a Web service like Frobee.com.

After navigating to Frobee.com, click Add Photos to begin making your slide show. Select the first photo you wish to add and click Open. Once the first photo uploads, an new window will appear showing your first photo with the default transition.

Keep clicking Add Photos and opening your pictures until all the photos you want in the slide-shows have uploaded.

Once uploaded, you can then control how the photos display in the slide-show. Start by choosing a transition. All of our favorite fancy transitions are listed, from the standard Blinds to shapes like stars and hearts. You must choose a transition for each photo on your list. Click each photo to choose a transition.

Next, choose how you want the photos to display. If they are all the same height and width, these options do not matter much. Otherwise, you must decide if the smaller photos should fit the show’s width, height, or just plain fit, as well as the axis position in the show. Click on each individual picture and make your selections.

Click the Settings link the left of the screen.

The setting screen allows you to choose the slide-show size in pixels. Determine the size you want, then click Apply to see a preview.

You are redirected to a page containing a zip file download the file. Within the zip file is the SWF file and sample HTML code. Use these files to upload the slide-show to your Web site.

Frobee is easy enough for even the most novice Web site builders to use for slide-show making. As long as you know how to upload the SWF File once it is created, the entire process, from uploading photos to placing the show on your Web site, should only take 5-10 minutes.

Besides the size, the settings also allow you to select a background for the show and to add captions. Click Apply to view your changes.

Blackle was created by Heap Media to remind us all of the need to take small steps in our everyday lives to save energy. Blackle searches are powered by Google Custom Search.
Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. "Image displayed is primarily a function of the user's color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen." Concept
The concept behind Blackle is that computer monitors can be made to consume less energy by displaying much darker colors. Blackle is based on a study which tested a variety of CRT and LCD monitors. There is dispute over whether there really are any energy saving effects

The concept behind is CRT monitors uses less energy in displaying black pixels than displaying white pixels. So using black background for web pages, ultimately reduces power consumption by CRT monitors.

We love shortcuts! They make our work easier and our computing more productive. For those of us whose hands ache from over using the mouse, shortcuts can add hours of pain-free computer time.

Along with the new window management features in windows 7 comes shortcuts for those features to completely bypass the mouse. This makes the new features more user-friendly, and solidifies the hope that Microsoft really is listening to their customers.

Windows Logo + Right Arrow: Sends the window to the right half of the screen. This is a new feature in Windows 7—usually, you must drag the window all the way to the very bottom right corner for Windows to recognize you want to dock this window on the right. This shortcut sends the window there with just a button click.

Windows Logo + Left Arrow: Sends the window the left half of the screen. When used with the shortcut above, you can see your windows side by side. This is great for comparing products online or fact checking with the internet in one window and a Word file in another.

Windows Logo + Home: Minimizes or restores everything but the current window. Windows 7 allows users to “shake” the current window to minimize all other windows. This shortcut takes the place of the awkward shaking.

Windows Logo + "+": Hitting this shortcut will zoom in. Windows 7 has a magnifier that works with almost any window. This shortcut activates the magnifier.

Windows Logo +" –": Conversely, this shortcut allows you to zoom out. It should be easy to remember—plus zooms in, minus zooms out.

Windows Logo + "G": Displays gadgets in front of other windows. So, if you are making use of the gadgets and want to see what they are doing behind your current windows, just quickly hit this shortcut and the gadgets appear on top of your current windows.

Windows Logo + Up Arrow: Maximizes the current window.

Windows Logo + Down Arrow: Minimizes the current window.

What Is Task manager ( For Beginners )

A software utility found in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP etc... that enables a user to view each of the tasks currently running on the computer, each of the processes, and the overall performance of the computer. The Task Manager is easily accessed by pressing: "Ctrl + Alt + Del" on the keyboard. Below is a visual example of the Microsoft Windows Task Manager under Windows 2000. A quicker way to access the Task Manager is to press: Ctrl + Shift + Esc.

Task Manager can also be executed by running the taskmgr.exe file from the C:\Windows\System32 directory or by clicking Start, Run and typing taskmgr.
If a program is no longer responding users can also choose to "End Task" from the Task Manager to close the program without restarting the computer.
Earlier versions of Microsoft Windows (Microsoft Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98) had a program known as tasks to display the current programs currently running. This file was executed by running the taskman.exe file from the C:\Windows directory.

If you're encountering issues opening the Task Manager it's possible that the computer could be infected with a virus or spyware. There are known malware designed to cause issues with opening the task manager and End Tasking them. If you're not able to open Task Manager using any of the recommendations on this page i suggest scanning your computer for viruses and spy-ware.

Microsoft Windows Task Manager is a general quick and easy method of seeing what is running on the computer. As can be seen in the above example picture of the Windows Task Manager will first display the applications currently open. From here you can end any application that may not be responding or can't be closed.

Clicking on the Processes tab will not only display the applications that are running on the computer, but also all Windows processes that are affiliated with programs, drivers, and other hardware installed on the computer. In addition to seeing a list of processes, you'll also be able to quickly identify what processes are consuming your resources by clicking on "CPU" or "Mem Usage" buttons to sort by highest to lowest.

How Simply Share Large No Of Files Or Folders In Another Way

If you’ve got a large number of folders you want to share on the network, navigating to

each one of them and going into their properties and changing them one by one. Even sharing can be as simple as “Next, next, and next” with the

Shared Folder Wizard (Start > Run > “shrpubw” > [Enter]).

You can even set share permissions right there, so there’s no need to go back to those

shared folders for additional settings. Just remember to check the “Run this wizard

again” box at the last dialog if you want to move on to the next folder.

(Note:- My Experience In This Method This Is Only a Different Way To Share Files. This Takes same user Effort like Simple Right click Method).
