ALTERED SHOE PROJECT

My son decided he wanted to do something sweet and unique to ask his girlfriend to prom this year, so we came up with a Cinderella theme. We decided to have him dress as prince charming and present an altered shoe on a pillow with a pretty card asking her to be is Cinderella.

I found an inexpensive pair of white high heeled shoes at the Goodwill and spray painted them with Krylon Glitter Blast Silver Flash.

This glitter spray coats very nicely but does get everywhere so I would advise using it outside or in a spray box. It also has a reputation for having the nozzle stick and being unable to stop the spray. This did happen to me and I had to purchase another can, but it covers so nicely and I was in a hurry so decided to make it work.

I let it dry for 24 hrs and then attached a rhinestoned flower brooch from the clearance section at Joanne's and glued some lace trim on the inside heel. Then, using 20 gauge wire, made 2 swirls and attached those to the back of the lace trim. I then printed on white cardstock and attached it lightly to the shoe. We kept it simple for this project even though my inclination is to embellish much more.

My son might kill me for posting this but he looked so adorable I can't resist.

Because we only used one shoe, I now have another shoe to use for another altered shoe project!

QUOTE PICTURE FRAME

My son wanted to make a gift for his girlfriend and I had this old Ikea wooden mirror so decided to turn it into a picture frame!

I gave it 3 coats of white acrylic craft paint

then attached rub on words

Nick (my son) picked the words and rubbed them on with a bone folder. We then put on 2 coats of decoupage sealer and put the phot in the middle. I covered it with a piece of glass from another picture frame and glued the glass onto the outside of the middle square with E6000 to really hold it on there. I finished it off with a cute black and white ribbon glued on with a bow glued to the middle. Nick helped create it and we both had a lot of fun doing it. And yes, his girlfriend really liked it, even though Nick said, "Mom, she's gonna know you helped me on this one."

DRESSER REDO FIRST PROJECT

A client of mine left a dresser behind in their rental home. It looked almost brand new and was in great condition. But I wanted to turn it into something shabby chic for my daughter's new bedroom redo.

I started with seafoam green paint for the peekaboo color that would show through the white when I distressed it. After a couple of coats of the underlayer, I used wax paste on the corners and edges then painted 2 coats of semi gloss white and sanded off the edges.

I then installed new vintage looking knobs. Not bad for my first project I think.

It has taken a bit longer to get things going than I had planned but I am so excited to be jumping into my repurposed projects. The first few projects are ones that have been sitting in my garage calling my name. I will be doing a vintage dresser for my daughter's room and my first sign as a gift for a friend. Once those are finished, I will be posting items for sale. Garage sale weather will be back soon here in Arizona and I can't wait to go treasure hunting for my next project! See you soon!!
