Talakona Waterfalls (270 Ft. fall) at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh

Highest waterfalls of 270 ft with a wildlife sanctuary and dense forest. Name refer "Tala" means "head" & "Kona" means "hills". September to January is a good time to visit and enjoy the falls. The reserve forest space is shared with flora, fauna, and also wild leopard.

During my visit, I can notice the rock pattern and structure of the hills. It's a little loose and cracked rocks everywhere. Even a tiny rain contributes to the water flow towards the falls.

The best place for ECO - Tourism is located in Talakona. This eco-village is developed by the local community with the help of government funding.

Madras War Cemetery

Madras war cemetery formally know as Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), built in 1952 in the remembrance of military service men who are died in the World War I and World War II. The military personal who are fight for British India to save protect from Japan invasion. This memorial consists 856 common wealth service people engraved memorial stone, they are all foreign nationals who worked for India. There were no body buried in this place, their names are engraved in the burial stones and placed in it.

The memorial includes 1,039 servicemen who were died during the World War I which located rear side of the World War II memorial Stones.

Thanthai Periyar, born Erode Venkata Ramasamy on September 17, 1879, in Erode, Tamil Nadu, is a towering figure in the socio-political landscape of India. Revered as the "Father of the Dravidian Movement," his life and work were devoted to challenging social inequalities and fostering rationalism.

Early Life and Awakening

Born into a wealthy merchant family, Periyar's privileged upbringing exposed him to both the advantages and flaws of the caste-driven society. However, his encounter with caste discrimination, particularly during his pilgrimage to Kashi, sparked his disillusionment with orthodox Hinduism. This experience became a turning point, propelling him toward a life of activism.

Champion of Social Justice

Periyar's philosophy centered on uprooting the hierarchical caste system perpetuated by Brahmanism. He believed that this system was the root cause of social and economic disparities in India. His advocacy for the rights of non-Brahmins, particularly Dalits, earned him widespread support across Tamil Nadu.

Through his Self-Respect Movement, founded in 1925, Periyar sought to empower marginalized communities by promoting equality, self-respect, and dignity. The movement rejected religious orthodoxy, rituals, and the dominance of Brahminical culture, instead advocating for education, critical thinking, and women's rights.

Crusader for Women's Rights

Periyar was a staunch advocate for gender equality. At a time when patriarchy dominated Indian society, he boldly championed the rights of women to education, property, and divorce. He also opposed child marriage and the dowry system, asserting that these practices perpetuated gender inequality.

His call for women to adopt rational and independent thinking was revolutionary. He envisioned a society where women could contribute equally to social and political spheres, free from the constraints of tradition and religious dogma.

A Rationalist Thinker

Periyar's advocacy for rationalism made him one of the most controversial thinkers of his time. He urged people to question religious texts, rituals, and superstitions, which he viewed as tools of oppression. His book The Ramayana: A True Reading critiqued the epic for perpetuating caste and gender hierarchies, a stance that drew both criticism and admiration.

Political Legacy

Periyar's influence extended into politics through the Dravidar Kazhagam, which he founded in 1944. The movement laid the foundation for the Dravidian political parties that later dominated Tamil Nadu, such as the DMK and AIADMK. These parties incorporated Periyar's ideals of social justice and regional identity, profoundly shaping Tamil Nadu's political landscape.

Lasting Impact

Periyar passed away on December 24, 1973, but his legacy endures. His relentless fight against caste oppression, his promotion of rationalist ideals, and his advocacy for women's rights continue to inspire progressive movements in India.

Today, Thanthai Periyar remains a symbol of courage and reform, a reminder of the power of questioning, and a beacon for those striving for equality and justice in society. His life is a testament to the transformative impact of dedication to social change.

The "Vox documentary" below helps understand the film "Revenant-2015" and the construction of the visuals. This documentary reveals the native hunters vs white hunters and their mottos and clearly explains how native Americans were targeted by the federal government by hunting the bison around the area, which directly affects their livelihood.

And how the french traders were done their business by using the native Americans as well as whites.
