Microsoft continuously improves Windows 7® and Windows Server® 2008 R2 by providing ongoing updates while working with software and hardware vendors to deliver application compatibility and hardware compatibility improvements. Service Pack 1 (SP1) is another vehicle through which Microsoft provides operating system improvements to customers.
SP1 is an update to both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 that, along with improvements delivered to users via other channels, addresses feedback from our customers. As with previously released updates, SP1 contains changes that are focused on addressing specific reliability, performance, and compatibility issues, supporting new types of hardware, and adding support for several emerging standards. SP1 also continues to improve upon the IT administration experience. SP1 is not intended to be a vehicle for releasing new features; however, some existing components do gain slightly enhanced functionality in SP1.

Service packs also help ensure that your systems are up-to-date. Updates to the Windows operating system, including updates released with bulletins from the Microsoft Support Response Center, will be reviewed and built only for currently-supported service packs. Installing the latest service pack ensures customers have the maximum support lifecycle for their investment. Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 will include previously released updates and will deliver a number of powerful new features for Windows Server 2008 R2 for virtualization and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). New techniques in memory management with the addition of Dynamic Memory functionality, as well as the ability to deliver full-fidelity graphic experiences in remote and virtualized environments with RemoteFX™, enable organizations to realize the greatest possible potential from their infrastructure. The resulting increase in efficiency and functionality allows for accelerated server consolidation, a more powerful virtualized desktop infrastructure, and an increased return on technology investments.

The impact of SP1 on the Windows 7 client operating system is considered to be minimal. Included changes are expected to address minor usability issues in specific scenarios, as outlined in this document. While Microsoft always recommends that users deploy the latest service pack as quickly as possible in order to maintain the best levels of support, security and user experience, we are strongly recommending to customers and partners that deployment of SP1 should not be considered a blocking issue for the adoption of Windows 7. In other words, organizations do not need to wait for SP1 to begin receiving the value of Windows 7 today as we don’t anticipate the SP1 for Windows 7 to be substantial.
The Windows 7 SP1 package will help keep your PCs and servers on the latest support level, provides ongoing improvements to the Windows Operating System (OS), by including previous updates delivered over Windows Update as well as continuing incremental updates to the Windows 7 platform based on customer and partner feedback, and is easy for organizations to deploy a single set of updates.

Lachlan Star boosts JORC Resource to 936,000 gold ounces at CMD

Lachlan Star (ASX: LSA) now has a 936,000 gold ounce JORC Resource at the CMD Gold Mine in Chile, estimated by Coffey Mining, with the potential to increase in the short term with resource statements for other projects currently pending.

The total exploration targets at CMD are currently between 600,000 and 900,000 gold ounces, which is in addition to the JORC Resource.

It must be remembered Lachlan has only owned the CMD mine for just over a month, and is looking to increase gold production in the short term.

CMD is an open pit heap leach gold mine that commenced production in 1995 and has produced around 830,000 gold ounces.

Forecast production is 9,000 gold ounces for the March quarter 2011, increasing to 12,000 gold ounces for the June quarter.

Of major importance for the ability to ramp up production, is the underutilised 8 million tonne per year production facility, which is currently running at just one third capacity.

The project is well positioned adjacent to Teck's massive Andacollo mine which hosts resources of; 535 million tonnes grading 0.37% copper and 0.12g/t gold, providing prospective copper exploration upside in the region.

Lachlan is also developing a plan for an intermediate pit in the central area of the Las Loas project, which will accelerate ore production and reduce the stripping ratio over the next 6 months

Silver Lake Resources gold inventory now tops 3 million ounces

Silver Lake Resources (ASX: SLR) is closing in on the company's 5 million gold ounce resource target, with the latest 17% JORC Resource boost to 3 million gold ounces.

The 17% increase is over the June 2010 inventory, with a new resource upgrade forecast for mid-2011.

The upgrades are expected to keep on coming for Silver Lake, as not all the latest drilling success has been included in this upgrade.

Mount Monger has a total resource of 1.3 million gold ounces, with Murchison 1.5 million gold ounces.

Silver Lake’s strategy is to develop large production centres at Mount Monger and Murchison, with multiple mines at each centre.

The Mount Monger Operation contains the Daisy Milano and Daisy East underground mines, along with the Costello open pit, located 50 kilometres from Kalgoorlie.

Silver Lake said Mount Monger has additional multi mine potential underpinned by emerging open pit production from Magic, Wombola Dam and Wombola Pit deposits.

Added to this is the potential for near term production sources from the Rosemary and Haoma lodes.

Gold ore from Mount Monger is transported to Silver Lake’s 600,000 tonne per year Lakewood Gold Processing Facility located, 5 kilometres from Kalgoorlie and 45 kilometres from the Daisy Milano mine.

At Murchison, ongoing exploration is focusing on extending current resources that have previously been constrained by limited drilling, particularly below 100 metres

Mutiny Gold 94% boost in Measured Resource to 130,000 gold ounces at Deflector

Measured gold ounces at the Mutiny Gold (ASX: MYG) Deflector deposit have increased to 130,000 ounces, up from 67,000, along with a boost in grade.

Mutiny now has; 930,000 tonnes at 4.3 grams per tonne (g/t) for 130,000 ounces, up from 535,000 tonnes at 3.9g/t for 67,000 ounces.

Deflector, part of the Gullewa Gold Project, now has a total resource of; 590,000 gold ounces which besides the 130,000 Measured, has 100,000 ounces Indicated and 350,000 ounces Inferred.

Based on the current gold price of US$1360 an ounce, the in-situ value of the Measured resource alone is US$177 million.

The increase in Measured resources will underpin the Feasibility Study, which will commence next month, with these latest results included within the planned open pit.

A Scoping Study is also underway, with results anticipated to be delivered by the company in mid-February.

Drilling is set to continue along strike at Deflector in the second half of January, to test high grade drill intersections identified in earlier drilling.

Mutiny said this upgrade of a significant portion of the Indicated Resource to the higher confidence category of Measured Resource has met the company’s objectives, and confirms Deflector as a significant deposit and completes an important development step.

Importantly, at Gullewa, infrastructure is already in place which includes a 300kt pa mill, camp, offices, power plant and other general required facilities.

Gold production is forecast by Mutiny to begin in 2012 from Gullewa.

Mutiny also owns the White Well project with an early resource of 91,000 ounces of high grade gold, that could be processed at Gullewa.

Earlier in the month the Wall Street research firm RB Milestone Group placed a price target of $0.41 in Mutiny.
