Girl On Fire's Nick McMahon is Not Broken but Filled with Revenge.....

Formed in the summer of 2007, Girl On Fire - held, guitarist Nick McMahon, bassist Josh Mouser and drummer Harry MacDonald - have made good use of their time together, developing a sound and spirit all their own and a live chemistry that is undeniable. These guys have come a long way with performing to recording material that has lead to a release of a 5-track EP Revenge and now their debut full-length Not Broken with the signing to record label Century Media Records these guys have got a lot going for them and it isn't going to be stopping anytime soon. Guitarist Nick McMahon talks about the signing and Not Broken release and latest single and video for "The Takedown".

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Girl On Fire, and how long the band has been together.

Nick: My name is Nick and I play guitar in Girl On Fire. We've been a band for about five years.

2. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Nick: We are based out of Seattle. The music scene is a little all over the place here, with lots of rock, scene, and indie music in the mix. Some of my favorite Seattle bands lately are, The Head and the Heart, Macklemore, and Fleet Foxes.

3. How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?

Nick: Our style is strait up rock! We love the Foo Fighters and Shinedown, but we also like lots of stuff from the 90’s like Third Eye Blind, and classics like The Beatles and Zeppelin.

4. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Nick: Lots of the lyrics are about our struggles and progression of things in life. An evolution of where we've been what we've done and what we have over come.

5. Why did the band come to call themselves Girl On Fire and does the word "girl" refer to an actual personal?

Nick: The name Girl On Fire has been with us since the beginning and really came about with us sitting in a room with a bunch of Bibles, dictionaries and a thesaurus for a few hours drinking beers. The Girl in Girl On Fire is not a reference to anyone in particular.

6. How did the whole thing with Century Media Records happen and how has it been being under their label, what runs through your mind, how does it all feel?

Nick: The connection with the label started when we worked with Wil from Aiden. He helped us with recording an EP and set up a show for us at Chain Reaction in Anaheim. It’s been a few years and a long process but we are all happy with where we are and very excited about our upcoming record.

7. Can you tell me about the song and video for "The Takedown" and why you wanted this song to be the first single and video of your choosing?

Nick: We loved how The Takedown turned out and felt that it really hit. So choosing it as a single was sort of like showing the world who we are and that is basically what the song is about. The video is fun and shows us entering the world of rock.

8. Is there any story or concept behind the Not Broken title?

Nick: The concept behind it is the running theme of the record for us. The idea that we have been through a lot since we started this band and we are not broken and ready to keep fighting for what we love to do.

9. You worked with Jay Baumgardner and Howie Weinberg on Not Broken, what was it like working with them?

Nick: It was a crazy and fun experience. We learned so much working with Jay and are very excited about the record. Howie mastered the record and he is very professional and efficient. Jay is friends with him and they took care of that together after we were done recording and back in Seattle.

10. Who did the cover art for Not Broken and how much input did you have on it?

Nick: A very talented artist named Anthony Clarkson. We went back and forth on a couple different ideas with him before finally deciding on the final one. We had quite a bit of input and freedom with it which was nice.

11. Was your songwriting and recording process any different than usual for this CD?

Nick: It was a bit different, but mostly in the attention to detail and time spent on everything. Everything had to be perfect and even then it wasn't good enough. So before when guitars had been looped or drum hits replaced we hadn't needed to take as long as we did this time. Jays production on the record was also a new experience for us and very enlightening.

12. What's your favorite song on the album right now?

Nick: My personal favorite right now is probably Reminds Me of You. I like the lyrics and the groove. It is fun to play and always feels very epic.

13. What's your take on Not Broken as a whole?

Nick: I could not be more excited for it. I can’t wait for it to come out and the rest of the world to hear it. It’s what we've been waiting for and dreaming about for the last 5 years since we started this band.

14. What are your expectations for the CD?

Nick: I expect it to melt faces and burn fingers!

15. What are your upcoming touring and plans?

Nick: We will be touring with Buckcherry in June and July. It also looks like we are going to be getting some more stuff right after and hopefully a few more rock festivals this summer!

16. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Nick: I’d like a listener to interpret the songs for themselves and find meaning in them that they can relate to.

17. Any final words of wisdom?

Nick: It would be wise to come watch us play a show because we would love to see you!

Mongrel Premiere New Music Video, “C & a 1/2″ on Revolver's Website

Massachusetts based aggressive rock band Mongrel has premiered the video for their new single, "C and 1/2" via the highly influential revolvermag.com. "C and 1/2" is the follow-up to the band's prior successful "Bored To Death" video.

Produced by guitarist Adam Savage and bassist Michael Ariza, the video was filmed by Ariza, Christopher Tejada and Integra Photography. The video was edited in-house as well by bassist Ariza. The band filmed the video on the streets of Salem, MA, at the Middle East Nightclub in Cambridge MA and a small corner store in Danvers, MA. Savage describes, "I came up with the concept of doing a video for this song based around a 'cookie-monster' type character a while back but until our new bassist Mike (Ariza) joined up with us it just wasn't meant to be. The concept evolved into a messed up origins type video in a way and really lets Mike's personality show. We even brought in our old bassist for the video to further the 'origins' plot line as well as a repeat appearance by alt-goth model Blu as a continuation from our last video...We just had too much fun making this honestly and there was so much great footage we didn't get to use that we're planning on making a behind the scenes documentary later this summer to share some of that with everyone. Just classic stuff !! We hope everyone else will get a sense of the fun we had with this."

Modern Day Escape - New Life

Modern Day Escape a band who has come quite a long way in more ways than just one. For instance the band's line-up it has been flip flopping left and right since "House Of Rats" was released. Now that two follow-ups have followed through "Under The Gun" and now "New Life" these guys have yet another take a whole another approach than their previous releases.

"House Of Rats" kept the screaming heavy hitting aggression while "Under The Gun" somewhat continued it with a more modern day twist and now that "New Life" is upon us it again takes another toll and takes another shot at the whole modern day approach with its more hard rock appeal. "This Ain't Love", "Leavin Home", and "Bound by Blood", are the more rock appealed songs offered here whereas "20 Years", "Scared as All Hell", and "Saying Goodbye", are more ballad based having that softer approach that keeps the melodies and emotions overflowing like an overflowed tub.

It looks to be another release that indicates the bands style and ability towards being musicians, having the material both lyrical, instrumental, and vocals to be firm yet softy having it become a rock record none the less.

Star Scream is a collective of human beings from the South East of England who use guitars, drums, white noise, strings, feedback, shouting and pianos to conjure up melodies to mesmerize in the 21st century. With that these guys have taken the use of alternative meets industrial with its combination of the two it leads it all down to their release entitled "Sexploitation".

This release has taken this combination and developed it into a variety of tunes ranging from "Roseblood (Weeping Willow)", "Die On The Floor", "Scenester", "Frightmare", and "When Crimson Lips Spell Murder ", thus you get a series of groovy guitar riffs, interesting drum patterns, vocal melodies, with edgy bass lines that makes these tunes and release that more interesting and unique let alone creative.

It is certain that these guys clearly know what they're doing when it comes down to making music, and with these creative factors at play, there is no telling or stopping them whatsoever.

UNEARTH SIGN WITH EONE MUSIC NEW ALBUM COMING SOON

Metal veterans UNEARTH have signed a North American record deal with eOne Music. The band plans to release a brand new LP later this year, their sixth spanning the band's 15 year tenure. Lord Of War's Alexx Walshaw Talks Showcasing and Making Music

Space metal/deathcore enthusiasts Lord of War brings to the table a perfect balance of engaging technicality and progressive elements seamlessly intertwined with powerful melodies and crushing breaks. They constantly push their collective skill sets to the next level in order to deliver increasingly imaginative aggression to their fan base. With that their guitarist Alexx Walshaw took the time to discuss with me their latest efforts and plans for the rest of this coming year!

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Lord of War, and how long the band has been together.

Alex: My name is Alex, I play guitar, and I started this band in 2008. It will be 5 years in August!

2. Your currently on tour as a part of The Till Death Tour, how has that been going for you guys and everyone else?

Alex: It's been awesome! We just got back from another tour about 2 weeks ago and had to turn right around and hit it hard again. It's been fantastic though. We're surrounded by a lot of talent every night. Some of the shows have low turn outs but the kids are going nuts. Other shows are flooded with people, and there is a lot of energy! Over all it's been great!

3. What did you do to prepare yourselves for this tour?

Alex: Since we just got off of our other tour with Suffocation literally 2 weeks before, we were still kind of in that tour mode, so we just picked up right where we left off. Our drummer had to work out of town the whole time so we didn't even get to practice!

4. Is there any song that when you play it live on stage makes your adrenaline levels kick in and make you want to go hyper?

Alex: I would say for me, it would have to be a new song we decided to play on tour called "Carbon Based Genocide" It's a lot different from our older stuff and when the fans at shows feed off of it's high energy level, it gets all of us amped and we get into it.

5. When it comes to performing each and every night does the time stand still or does it fly by when performing?

Alex: It definitely goes by quick. The 30 minutes we're on stage feel like nothing, and then there is hard work before and after each show. Time is constantly moving super fast whether we're performing or not. It seems there just aren't enough hours in the day.

6. What could one expect from a Lord of War show?

Alex: A fast paced, high energy, technical, and brutal performance. We get crazy on stage to have fun with fans that are going off, but still are able to play everything we write with precision.

7. Any strange or unusual happenings while out on the road or at a live show?

Alex: We ourselves are strange and unusual. Some of the people in the different towns are a trip, feels like we're on different planet, or that we've stumbled into a Twilight Zone episode sometimes. There is one very strange thing that sticks out off of the top of my head. We were driving on an isolated highway with no one else in sight for miles in either direction. Ahead about a mile up the road was this massive circular shadow patch covering the highway and out into the fields on either side. It's circumference was a few miles wide. Odd thing about it was there wasn't ONE cloud to be had in the sky, yet it was dark as if something was above blacking it out. When we drove through it, it got a lot cooler and we kept looking up to see if there was anything there causing it. Just clear skies though. Since our lyrical content and theme deals with extraterrestrials, perhaps they were making themselves known to us on that isolated road.

9. Describe your show, visual and musically for us.

Alex: This sort of ties into # 6. We play a lot of material from 'Celestial Pestilence' which is very thematic and atmospheric in sound. We're playing 2 new songs on the road that still have that concept but just take it a step further. Our set is a nice balance of melodic and technical metal.

10. What do you do to get ready for a show?

Alex: I try to stretch every night without fail. I feel horrible afterwards if I don't. We get really into our set and move a lot of stage, so it's physically enduring if you're not limbered up. You'll definitely feel it the next day if you don't. Other stuff includes making sure we're in tune, setting up our gear to go on stage after the previous band, getting water for the whole band, and making sure if anyone needs help with anything to help get them set up.

11. What do you miss most from home when you’re on tour?

Alex: We found out really quick that it was the Mexican food in Southern California. There's nothing like it anywhere else. The only other thing I would say I miss the most is showering every day.

12. Have you noticed the economy affecting your tour attendance or merch sales?

Alex: We have! A lot of people will come out to these shows, pay to get in, but not have money for any of the bands merch, which in turn hurts us as well being able to get around on the road. So we're definitely all feeling it, fans and bands alike.

13. Once this tour is over with, what else do you guys have planned for this year?

Alex: We had something really cool lined up 2 weeks after this tour was out, but it has been canceled. One cool thing we're doing still is the Rockin' Roots Festival. There will be so many awesome bands this year, and it's the events final year, so we're glad we'll get to be a part of it. Other stuff includes some tours in late Summer, and it looks like we'll be doing a big tour in fall.

14. What type of band is, Lord of War and how did the name come into the picture?

Alex: We describe ourselves as Atmospheric Melodic Death Metal, or Space Metal. The name is actually from the movie of the same title. I watched it and thought, that is a total band name. At the time we didn't have anything lined up. I went looking on popular social networking sites and searched the internet for a band already using it. Surprisingly no one had done it, so we used it. It was a few years later I found out there was a band from Italy of the same name. It's no longer around and it was more of a solo project, not an actual band.

15. Will we be seeing a music video from you guys in the future?

Alex: Yes! We've been planning one for quite some time. Money and time are the biggest factors in why we don't have one, but we are trying to fix that asap!

16. Did the band have any definitive goals they were shooting for before the recording process began for this album?

Alex: The only thing we wanted to do at all was finally have recorded music. We played about two and a half years of show after show with no music or demos. People always asked us do you have CD's or demos we can have, and we always had to turn them down. All we wanted to do was have stuff people could listen to, that was our only goal.

17. Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording process before?

Alex: We used keyboard samples on this album for the illusion of being somewhere else when you listen to it. So you don't feel like you're listening to a boring straight forward metal album. It's meant to put you in a different place for a half hour. That was the only different thing we had tried for this album instrument wise.

18. How was the vibe in the studio?

Alex: Fun for the most part. A lot of hard work and a lot of trial and error. It's a process like anything else, and takes vast amounts of time. For the most part it was a good experience though.

19. Is there any story or concept behind the Celestial Pestilence title?

Alex: Each song is a different story instead of one whole concept being realized throughout the whole album. So I guess you could say there are mini stories and concepts throughout the album.

20. Who produced Celestial Pestilence and what was it like working with them?

Alex: Arde Ostowari from Burning The Masses. He had a home studio, and had just bought all the equipment to start. We were his first project and it was a learning experience for both of us I think.

21. Who did the cover art for Celestial Pestilence and how much input did you have on it?

Alex: The artwork changed several times before we settled on the final that is there today. There was a concept floating back and forth between the band for a while. We took ideas from all the other ones we had and turned it into what it is now. The inside artwork and CD art was also done by the band. We're all pretty skilled at photoshop, so luckily we were able to make something that suited this first album well.

22. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Alex: Probably the hard work we put into making it. Which happens almost all the time when we hear feedback from fans. They'll come to shows and comment on all the effort that went into making it. Not just saying it sounded good, they'll comment on specific riffs or ideas that wow them. That's a really good feeling when they can appreciate it.

24. Is that your final answer?

Alex: There will always be questions as long as mankind is searching for answers. “Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple” Dr. Seuss.

Avenger Of Blood Throws in the Towel

Thrash metal Vegas go getters Avenger Of Blood have thrown in the towel calling it quits. After several releases and playing showcases here and there the band posted the following message on their Facebook page;

"So today marks the end of an era. As of today Avenger of Blood is no longer a band. I say this with a very heavy heart but this is out of my hands now. Thanks to all the bands we have shared the stage with, the promoters who worked with us, the festivals we played, managers, and all the past members for everything. Most importantly ALL of you who have supported us in any way shape or form! The 2 shows we have booked are officially canceled as of today. RIP Avenger of Blood 6-16-13".

My Little Pony Equestria Girls Full Doll Reveal

My Little Pony's upcoming Equrstria Girls doll line up has been revealed with the full mane 6 in doll form and fashion! This of course ties into the new limited released movie due out on DVD and TV airing this fall. The dolls are sold in single packs while two of the main characters are sold in a double pack. My Little Pony Equestria Girls Movie Review

"The magic of friendship never changes" is the direct quote and meaning of the new spin off series to Hasbro's thirty year run of the infamously popular My Little Pony franchise. So with it having such a huge fan base since the start it has gone through a series of changes over the course of its thirty year run, now that the ponies have changed so has the animation, storytelling, themes, etc. Hasbro's newest take is the fourth generation or G4 entitled My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic, since its launch in 2010 the series has gone into three consecutive seasons with a fourth underway, and so since the series has done so well, Hasbro and the creators though they would take on the series in a whole new way.

This way would be a spin off to the series called Equestria Girls, this movie in limited release takes your beloved mane six ponie friends on an all new journey well somewhat, while the mane 6 are included in the story the main aspect is focused upon Twilight Sparkle and her assistant Spike. As the story begins we are brought to Ponyville where the ponies arrive in Equestria to visit the royal court, so Twilight can prepare and learn to be a Princess. As the ponie's go to bed for the night an intruder sneaks their way into the castle stealing Twilight's crown. Twilight and the mysterious pony to be revealed as Sunset Shimmer embark on a chase which leads them to a room where this magic mirror is displayed and Sunset Shimmer dashes off right into it entering a whole another world completely.

The following day the ponies get together and Twilight must pursue Sunset Shimmer through the mirror and that she does entering a world that would be a human version ponyville where Twilight enters a high school known as Canterlot High. There she finds Sunset Shimmer as well as a lot of other fan favorite ponies from the mane 6 of course to others including Big Mac, DJ Pon-3, the cutie mark crusaders, with a ton of other recognizable and fan favored characters including some surprises!

Twilight then meets a young boy named Flash the two share a few conversations here and there while Sunset Shimmer tries her best to get Twilight in trouble pulling pranks, jokes, and other mishaps which later lead Twilight to sign up for the Princess formal in which then she would be able to get back her crown. The formal is of course a school dance and everyone gets together having an enjoyable time but that soon is shattered when the crown is again stolen and evil takes over leaving the main six to fend for themselves.

In the end this spin off to the popular franchise has been done and is indeed real for those wanting to believe it or not, it's just as it was with the series keeping to the same tactics used in animating, music, effects, everything that you enjoy about the series you will enjoy in this movie. Expect for it to branch out into other forms of media ranging from appeal, toys, music, and perhaps its own series all it's own. A DVD release is coming late this summer with a TV airing in the fall.

The premiere is taking place this Father's Day weekend in Los Angeles, California. So with that Hasbro has gone on to creating dolls to go with this new twist of events.

Equestria Girls Dolls Prototypes

One of these new dolls happens to be a double pack which includes Sunset Shimmer and Princess Twilight Sparkle. Each doll comes with an outfit, comb, earrings, misc accessories, and "Club Card" that you will be able to access online. In addition to that, Twilight comes with her crown, stickers, and a pair of clip-on wings. Note that the claimed "DVD" is no DVD at all, it's just a notice showcasing that the DVD movie My Little Pony Equestria Girls is available now referring to it's release on August 6th - indicating that these dolls will be released around the same time as the DVD in August or late this summer early fall perhaps.

Like the prototype images, the dolls have pony ears, ponytail-tails, and cutie marks on their faces. Sunset Shimmer looks to have cutie mark-esque decals on her leg and boots, as well as two differently colored legs. This could be intentional as contrast to her hair color, or a flaw that will be corrected in the final product.

Apple Jack Possible Finalized Doll

The other available doll happens to be Apple Jack which comes in a single pack, containing the doll, comb, stickers, hat, and "Club Card". The other mane 6 pony friends will surly be single packed and available for likely $14.99 price range with the double packs being around $19.99 if not $29.99.

Please also take notice that the mane 6 are in their dance party attire so perhaps another line of dolls with basic attire will pop up among other Equestria Girls products.

So be sure to keep on a look out for these dolls and much more this late summer and fall! All of which should be available at Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Kmart, among other popular retail outlet stores!

Miami, Florida's NEUROTIC NOVEMBER has inked a deal with Victory Records. The band's debut album will be released in the fall.

Formed in January 2009, NEUROTIC NOVEMBER is "a six-piece band with breaks that will move you, melodies that will swell in your head for hours, and whose members are as diverse as its sound," according to the group's official bio. "Dirty Dick leads the way with his one-of-a-kind voice, shouting his down-to-earth lyrics alongside the heavy chugs, southern-metal-style riffs, and solos with triple harmonies of guitarists The Over Achiever, Handsome Hajii and Sushi.

"NEUROTIC NOVEMBER boasts a style that differs from most metal bands, drummer Cholo adding his own pace and powerful beats while bassist Bear amazing shredding ability and with her unique style of playing and performing."

The band began its journey in the world of recording by traveling a difficult twenty-hour drive, packed into Dirty Dick's Ford Ranger, the band truly learning the meaning behind "bonding." While in Ohio, NEUROTIC NOVEMBER completed the recording of its first two songs as a band, "I'm From The Sunshine State I Gotta Shine" and "It Always Rains In Gotham City". After returning from Ohio, they received over 3000 plays within the first few hours of having the songs up. Seeing how excited kids were about their music, the band began dedicating their time to constant practice and writing new material.

Davey Suicide has announced a phenomenally divergent line-up for his "Hide Your Morals" 2013 summer headline tour with special guests The Bunny The Bear & The Defiled.

Says Davey Suicide of the tour "We're stoked to be taking this show on the road. The circus is coming to town and we're ready to kick everyone's ass. Board ur windows, bring you wife and kids, and hide your morals."

The Defiled also added "We are over the fucking moon to announce we are gong to be embarking on our first ever US tour with Davey Suicide. After years of sweating it out in the UK and Europe we can't wait to be able to take what we do to the States."

The tour kicks off Friday, July 19th at Rocky Point Cantina in Tempe, Arizona and works its way through the United States wrapping up on Tuesday, August 13th at The Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California.

DYING FETUS Announce North American Headline Tour Re-Sign to Relapse Records

Death Metal powerhouse DYING FETUS have announced a North American headline tour for this fall. The tour, which promises to be THE MOST brutal tour of the year, is presented by Metal Sucks and Converse and kicks off October 5th in Wilmington, NC and runs through November 2nd in Springfield, VA. The tour features support from label mates Exhumed and Devourment, as well as Waking the Cadaver (10/4-10/19), Abiotic and Rivers of Nihil (10/26-11/2). Special VIP packages that include a general admission ticket, an exclusive DYING FETUS herbal grinder, a meet and greet with the band, limited edition 20 Year Anniversary Poster, and VIP Souvenir Laminate will be available for purchase HERE.
