Launched in a very low key manner a few days ago by LG, and lacking even some of the most basic details, the LG Optimus Me is another addition to the Android-powered Optimus series of smartphones where it sits at the bottom of the range.

The LG Optimus Me looks like it’s going to be LG’s entry in the low-end area of the smartphone space. The handset runs Android, the exact version has not been announced, but it’s likely to be 2.2 Froyo.

The LG's gadget "Optimus Me" falls into the more affordable range of the Optimus line-up and is aimed primarily at those big on messaging and social networking. As an Android phone the Optimus Me comes with excellent support for social networks like Twitter and Facebook which are integrated directly into the phones interface. Other messaging options available include threaded SMS, MMS, email and instant messaging. Google Talk and Gmail are both supported out of the box, as is YouTube allowing you to enjoy streaming videos from the popular online service.

What we know for certain is that the Optimus Me is an Android 2.2 smartphone with a 3 megapixel camera on the back, has an FM radio, a 600 MHz processor, a 1280 mAh battery, has WiFi and it comes in a variety of colours. We assume that it is at least a 3G phone (most likely 3.5G) and comes with GPS, as every other Android phone we can think of has that.

The screen size looks like it’s about 240 x 320 pixels, 2.8 inches. And that would be perfectly in line with all the other low-end Android smartphones we’ve seen over the past year or so.

The phones internal storage is fairly limited at just 140MB although this can be expanded dramatically through microSD cards with 32GB microSD cards being supported. This can be used to store music, video and other content such as photos captured on the Optimus Me´s 3.15 megapixel camera. The camera is not the best camera available on a phone but is still of good enough quality for everyday use and also comes with VGA video recording support at 24fps.

the LG Optimus Me come in many different colors. The Optimus Me may be LG’s big play into the low-end Android smartphone market, or it may be a successor to the Optimus One (although that doesn’t make much sense, since that phone has only been on the market for a few months, as this one isn’t really that different).

The LG Optimus Me pushes smartphone features into what was previously the dumber "feature phone" price range. LG in particular has seen feature phone sales slump as consumers raise their expectations of what a touchscreen phone should do. Despite the modest technical specifications of the Optimus Me, we think that a device such as this may open up a significant market.

HTC has officially announced its new tablet, the HTC Flyer, at MWC 2011. After the rumors of the past few weeks, the Flyer’s existence hardly comes as a surprise; however, some of the technology decisions HTC has made – including supplying it with an active stylus – are pretty surprising.

On top there’s Android 2.4 Gingerbread with a heavily modified version of HTC Sense to suit the bigger display: a 3D homescreen with floating widgets, a carousel layout in landscape orientation, and a 3D grid in portrait orientation. HTC promises a Honeycomb OTA updated “soon after” the Flyer’s launch which, they insisted to us, shouldn’t be impacted by what’s expected to be minimal carrier modification. Even before then, though, there’ll be split-screen apps of HTC’s own making, with a multi-pane browser, calendar, email, address book and other software to make the most of the resolution.

It’s the stylus that really makes the HTC Flyer stand apart, however. HTC has used an unspecified active stylus technology with a battery-powered pen (that has a pressure-sensitive nib and two buttons, defaulting to erase and text-select) and loaded a new app called Notes that supports sketching, handwritten text and annotation of imported photos and clippings. Notes will also record audio, indexing points in the recording with the notes you’re taking at the time, for easier later recall.

The Flyer will also debut HTC’s new streaming content drive, building on its recent investments in Saffron Digital and OnLive. A new “Watch” app will offer streaming movies and TV shows, while an OnLive app will allow streamed 3D gameplay on the Flyer; using DLNA over WiFi, the Flyer will be able to put OnLive gaming on a nearby compatible TV. Both services are expected to offer pay-per-use and subscription options, and HTC says the same systems are likely to spread to its phones in future.

The competition is getting more and more tough with the release of so many gadgets. A 10” inches Apple iPad is under development so it will be a good competitor too. But right now it looks like Flyer has a direct competition with Samsung Galaxy tab.

With its emphasis on fun over graphics, the Nintendo Wii has been the surprise hit of the current generation of game consoles. It's taken a few years, but Sony and Microsoft have finally answered the motion-gaming call with the PlayStation Move and the Xbox Kinect (reviewed here). Whether your loyalties lie with motion gaming,

Nobody ever said pioneering a new type of controller would be an easy thing. Go ask the guys at Nintendo about how unresponsive the Wii could be if not used precisely enough for a particular game. Or we could ask Sony about those barely function Sixaxis controls that are almost never used in any games except when shoehorned in poorly. Microsoft's Kinect follows along on this trend, faring much better than the Sixaxis but a bit behind the Wii. Why has it fallen behind on the Wii when it theoretically should be a superior experience?

Though it can broadly be called a "motion controller," Microsoft's Kinect is a different beast. Unlike both Sony's Move and Nintendo's Wii MotionPlus controllers--which detect motion as you wave them around in your hands--Kinect turns your entire body into the "controller," with the Kinect hardware--a motion detector/camera that you set up in front of or on top of your TV--converting your movements into gestures that the Xbox can understand.

Microsoft not only sees Kinect as a means to widen the general gaming audience, but a way to interact with the menu system of the Xbox 360. But that "Minority Report"-like future is going to cost you: the Kinect is priced at $150 (though that price includes the game Kinect Adventures). Is it worth it, and is it a must-have add-on for existing Xbox owners?

The first problem with the Kinect is that it was impossible to set up when first purchased. The amount of space that this thing eats up is insane. You need a good solid six feet of clear space from you to your television, where the sensor should be set up. If you want two people playing locally then you're going to need about eight feet. This is highly problematic for people who live in apartments or small homes and don't have a dedicated gaming room. So after getting tired out from rearranging the entire living room we finally had our six feet or so.

The entirety of the Kinect consists of a black camera bar that's much larger than most Webcams but is compact enough to reside near a TV without being too conspicuous. The actual Kinect sensor is roughly 11 inches wide by 3 inches deep, and can be centered above or below your TV (though a separate above-TV mount is recommended for flat screens). It sits on a small square base that allows the unit to automatically adjust its viewing angle using a motorized head. You'll see this pivoting feature in action during the device's initial setup and when launching games. The base is rubberized enough to provide sufficient traction even on the slightly curved surface of our home TV's stand, although Microsoft recommends flat placement in the instructions.

On the front of the Kinect sensor are windows that hide depth sensors, an RGB camera, and a multiarray microphone. Tilt it at certain angles and you can even make out a slightly flickering infrared light that helps the advanced Kinect camera scan the room. A green LED light flashes upon Kinect's boot-up, and remains solid when connected.

Last but not least is the responsiveness of the device. Now to be fair a good measure of how responsive this device is to your commands seems to be based on the game you're attempting to play. Some games respond fairly well, notably Dance Central, while others require you to perform a move well in advance of whatever situation you need the motion for. This comes up a lot in Sonic Riders but it's very prevalent in any game that asks you to jump or duck down as it's very hard to judge when to perform these without any sort of feedback. Did you do the move too slow? Did you not get out of the sensor's field of view? Is your timing off? Your guess is as good as mine.

With that said though the Kinect is still a rather impressive piece of hardware. The way it can almost effortlessly keep track of every little thing that you're doing is nothing to scoff at. When playing a good Kinect game, which there are admittedly few of right now, you can easily have a lot of fun in the short bursts of playing. It's even better with a group of friends as you can watch, and laugh at, them while you rest up a bit from all the moving around the Kinect requires.

Right now, the answer to the fundamental question of "are you having fun with Kinect" is, unfortunately, "not really." Unless you like dance games. The potential is there, but you need to think of Kinect like the launch of a new console: Wait until the games you really want are available—or maybe even the next generation.

The RIM BlackBerry Torch is the first model to ship running BlackBerry OS 6, and much like the phone's design, when revamping the BlackBerry platform, RIM wanted to present something both fresh and familiar. There's a good bit of the familiar but a greater amount that's new, so this is definitely a major overhaul of the platform and not just a few added features.

Right off the bat, you'll notice a new home screen. On top, there's a Quick Access area where you can see the date, time, signal strength, battery life, and where you can manage your wireless connections. Below that is a new notification bar that includes one-touch access to change your phone's profile and to conduct searches. It will also alert you to new messages, missed calls, upcoming appointments, and so forth. Tapping on the bar will expand the tray so you can view more details and go directly to the appropriate app.

Most of the action, however, takes place at the bottom of the screen, where you'll find a new navigation bar. It makes good use of the touch screen, as you can swipe from left to right and vice versa to access apps and content based on five categories: All, Favorites, Media, Downloads, and Frequent. In addition to swiping sideways, you can tap on a category to expand it and see the full list of associated apps.

The 2-megapixel camera is nothing to write home about, and lacks the flash and autofocus found on the higher-spec BlackBerry Bold 9700.

As you'd expect from any handset in the BlackBerry family, the Curve 3G features enviable email capabilities, and BlackBerry Messenger for instant messaging other BlackBerry users for next-to-nothing.

It's hard to get excited about a phone that only offers minor upgrades to what came before, and relies on a future software update for its only innovative feature. Google’s new Android operating system 3.0 Honeycomb who claimed to have been designed from the ground up for the tablet device. Honeycomb v3.0 Android Google Mobile feature the latest innovations with improved Android favorites such as widgets, multi-tasking, browse, notice and customization.

Both Motorola's hardware and Google's new software are impressive and, after testing it for about a week, I believe the Xoom beats the first-generation iPad in certain respects, though it lags in others. Like the iPad, the Xoom has a roomy 10-inch screen, and it's about the same thickness and weight as the iPad, albeit narrower and longer. And, like the iPad's operating system, Honeycomb gives software the ability to make good use of that screen real estate, with apps that are more computer-like than those on a smartphone.

Motorola Xoom Android Tablet offers NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processors with each core running at 1 GHz, providing up to two GHz of processing power, and features 10.1-inch widescreen HD display. Motorola Xoom Tablet allows consumers to experience HD content right on the device, supports 1080p HD video and HDMI output for displaying HD content on a bigger screen, and playing video and other web content rich seamlessly with Adobe Flash Player.

The Xoom has a more potent processor than the current iPad; front and rear cameras versus none for the iPad; better speakers; and higher screen resolution. It also can be upgraded free later this year to support Verizon's faster 4G cellular data network (though monthly fees may rise.)

Motorola is taking aim at the iPad just as Apple is expected to announce, next week, a second-generation of its tablet. Little is known about this second iPad, but it's widely expected to take away at least one of the Xoom's advantages over the original iPad—cameras—and is rumored to be thinner and lighter, since weight was one of the most common complaints about the generally praised first iPad.

Motorola Xoom Android Tablet also features Google Maps 5.0 with 3D interaction and provide access to more than 3 million eBooks Google and more than 100,000 free and paid applications from the Android Market.

Motorola Xoom Android Tablet also provides constant connectivity, including connecting to Gmail or Exchange e-mail documents, opening and editing, spreadsheets and presentations, and view calendars and send notifications appointments or meetings with speed mobile broadband.

Tablets are also equipped with a mobile hotspot capabilities that provide an online connection to five other Wi-Fi-enabled devices. Motorola Xoom Android Tablet will launch a Tablet device as a device 3G/Wi-Fi-enabled in Q1 2011 with an upgrade to 4G LTE in Q2. Starting in 2011 Q2, the Motorola Xoom will be LTE/Wi-Fi- 4G-enabled device.
