IVF (Invitro Fertilization)

During these days, infertility is common and statistics show that 10 out of 100 have infertility. To deal with Infertility, most of the people go for lots of treatments and the last and popular, final treatment left is IVF (Invitro Fertilization). But are we aware of what is done during IVF and what Catholic Church says about the same. Is there any justification in getting pregnant that way? Why is Catholics against IVF treatment?

IVF- how it is done?

IVF, the latest technology in reproduction had been found out on 25^th July 1978. The sperm from the father and egg from the mother is taken in a glass tube. Within 12-18 hours zygote is formed and later it is allowed to grow for 48-72 hours. The baby developed in test tube is then placed inside the uterus of the mother. Within 10-14 days, if the method is success, the same can be confirmed using a blood test. Sometimes, more than one zygote is placed inside the uterus, to confirm the success. Hence, for one pregnancy to be success, more than one zygote is created. If the first attempt is a success, the other zygotes are either destroyed or kept safe for the medical application, of that baby itself.

Artificial Insemination is done inside a mother’s body while, IVF is done inside a test tube. In this method, both sperm and egg of the husband and wife is accepted (Homologious IVF) or sperm of husband or some other man with egg of wife or some other women is accepted/used (Hetrologious IVF). At another stage, if the uterus of wife is not strong enough, uterus of an another women is rented for the purpose (Surrogative method)

Economical Side:

Minimum 1 lakh Indian Rupee is the cost for the same in India and hence it is nowhere at the reach of ordinary people. The yearly income of Indian Assisted Reproductive Technology clinics is India, which is only below 300 is 25 Million Indian Rupee or above, will show the trend of IVF and other reproductive techniques. In India, no law is there to control the working of Sperm Banks and Zygote Banks. Hence lots of immoral activities are going on based on the same and there is nobody to protect the rights of partners, who comes for these type of treatments.

What Church Says?

While many of the people accept the same as a boon and treatment method, the Catholic Church teaching has clear cut idea, about their decision on this. According to Catholic Church, these types of reproductive treatments are a BIG wrong. The target of marriage is to be one in the process of Love and reproduction, and hence doing the reproductive mechanism by a third party, separately is not acceptable.

In IVF, more than one Zygote is created for the success of one pregnancy and later the rest of the zygotes are either destroyed or is kept safely for the medical use of the original zygote/baby. This is really against the life, says John Paul II Mar Papa. These are further used for the cure of diseases, to make tissues etc. Playing with the life of innocent babies (Zygotes), even if for the good of others, is not acceptable.

What is the solution suggested?

Need for child, cannot be seen as Rights to have child. To get a child through, any way is not acceptable for the church. Child is not our need, but it is a gift from GOD. To have one child, how could one sacrifice, several others, it is really cruelty if thought of. Infertility has to be treated using normal medical applications and even if no results, then the partners should find out the real meaning of their life. May be God has another great project in his mind, say adoption, or services in field of educational area, helping poor people or those with disabilities are suggested for such partners.

Greetings!! Happy Women’s day to all…

I was just wondering, why we are celebrating women’s day... Is it just another occasion so that men could express their love for women… like that on Valentine’s Day..?

No….

It is actually said International working women’s day. It was something done to articulate women’s right and international peace… and we had changed it into something so that we could enjoy…

It is the day to remember the suffering women’s economic and practical difficulties. Despite big changes in some women’s lives, they still continue to be the main take-carers for children and other family members. One in five women will experience violence from partners or ex-partners at some time in their lives. The capitalist system turns everything into a commodity, including women’s bodies - whether for sale directly in the sex industry or indirectly through their use in advertising and selling products.

There has been little research however investigating whether women’s employment conditions and events have any impact on mothers’ mental health and well-being during pregnancy. At other stages of the life course, poor working conditions and workplace stress can lead to worse psychological outcomes such as heightened depression and anxiety.

A democratically planned economy would release resources to ensure a decent income and economic independence for everyone. Publicly provided quality services such as childcare, healthcare, education, housing, transport etc. would give women real choice over every aspect of their lives. A society based on equality and cooperation would lay the basis for an end to all forms of sexism and violence against women; women would finally be truly liberated.

And that is what we should move into…

Oh!! God…it’s already late to office … let me stop, my mother is calling to give her a hand in the kitchen, I don’t usually help her in the morning… But I think for today I need to help her… at least for today… bcoz she too is a women, na? A working woman... who doesn’t get any pay for working from morning to evening, looking after the children, whose work is not counted at all… I think women itself is the culprits against the women’s condition. We all have such mothers and wives in our homes, let us at least try to remember/ respect their contribution towards our life, at least on this WOMEN’s DAY... rather than fighting with our boyfriends, for not getting us the gift for today ;)

Stop Abortion

I would like to share something from my true life experience and if that is going to transform anybody, then i would be grateful...

On my seventh month of first pregnancy, I was affected with Rubella [German measles] and my gynecologist, suggested for an immediate termination of my pregnancy on my seventh month!!! I was really shocked hearing the news...

I was longing to see my first child and I couldn’t accept what she said. So I went in search of other doctors, I went to most of the Gynecologist in person and via friends, to get one positive reply... But I couldn’t hear any... Everyone suggested termination...

Everybody said that if I'm to continue my pregnancy, it is all up to you, it is really RISK. Or else something a MIRACLE should happen.... as there is possibility that the child may be born with either one or all of the disabilities like deaf or blind or mentally retarded or with heart diseases... And it is not possible to confirm that before birth as, these symptoms cannot be known via scanning.

I did research from my end, via newspapers and goggling and I accepted the fact that had happened to me. Later I ended with all my searches and went to my gynecologist and said that I'm really in need of my child, I can't leave her at any cost.. So I'm going to continue and I need your full support...

She was really angry with me saying that if anything happens, she won't be responsible... But I assured her that I'm going to face this... I will surely accept my child in any manner; she/he is given to me by my GOD.

Later she and the whole nursing home (St, Anne's Nursing Home, Pettah, Trivandrum) did give me their prayers... My friends and family was with me... I did pray to GOD, not that to give me my child in perfect condition but "To give me courage to face anything that is going to happen and strength to look after my child in any manner that she/he is given to me”

This situation really dragged me near to GOD more and more and I got lot of courage and confidence, I was becoming more and more proud that I'm doing something that everybody had refused me to do, just for the sake of my little angel who is yet to come, whom I had never seen... I couldn’t really explain what went over my mind those days...

But I did try to forget all these and concentrated on how to welcome my angel into my life and started preparing for that. My parents were really tensed bcoz of my preparations and they thought I'm getting MAD bcoz of these situations... :)

At last By God’s Grace I got my little angel - Annakutty, safe in my hand on 27-Sep-2009. It was really a festival for me & my family.

Nowadays, I could hear news of more and more of abortions... and I Just wanted to share what went over me...

How could we terminate our child, just for the sake of our well-being...; just for something that they are not even responsible...?

How can we deny their right to life? Who are we to decide on their right to live on this world?

We are brainy equipment’s of GOD to make fine living possible in this world, what if we refuse to do our job...

What if every MOTHER starts thinking of dropping their pregnancy...

If I was to terminate my pregnancy, then there was nothing for me to tense over, I would be relaxed, and I could just say that I just terminated, since I was asked to; And I was away from risk.. But then, will I be getting such a cute little angel to love me...?

Now my Annakutty is 2yrs of OLD and is completely alright, without any disabilities...

We Mothers love our child in any condition they are and accept them in any condition, any mistakes - during their growth and even when they are grown up; then why couldn’t we do that for the most innocent babies who are yet to come to this world?

This Is Dedicated To The Memory Of All The Aborted Babies Throughout The World. Please think over what happens to a child and all the pain a baby goes through when they are aborted & how cruel a Mother should be to do this...
