One of the highlights of our trip was meeting Laura Kelly. She was working at the Plaid booth with us and she’s a blast…

I’m sure you’ve seen her darling decals everywhere and her lovely “Mom’s Busy Year” calendars!

Laura is extremely talented and we had a wonderful time watching her draw people that lined up to get a personalized doodle of themselves.

In this photo, Becky is showing Lara a picture of her family. Laura had her family drawing done within a couple of minutes…no joke!

How did Laura get started?

“I was married and pregnant and designed my son’s birth announcement. It was the start of this amazing adventure.

My friends loved it and asked me to draw things for them. I felt totally empowered and free. That was in 1995. I started drawing again and I haven’t stopped since. The stationery making thing became a career and grew to where I could no longer create it without lots of employees and support to meet the demand. In 2003 I was approached at the National Stationery Show in New York City by Checks in the Mail with interest in licensing my characters to be used on bank checks. I was an of course without even knowing what I was getting in to. They sent a contract. I signed it and sent the artwork. Ten years later, I still LOVE working with them and have lots of other companies I license with too. It is a fascinating career…one I didn’t know was possible until I took the risks to create and share my designs with our world.

The characters have grown with me and there are now lots and lots of Peeps to keep me company in my imaginary world. They are popular now on products manufactured by Plaid Enterprises, Leap Year Publishing, Leanin Tree, Thirstystone, General Fabrics and www.EXPRESSIONERY.com.

And that’s the story of Me and My Peeps!”

My husband and I have owned our current home for the past two years.

It’s an older house that needs updating and we’ve had a wonderful time making it our home with a personal touch but, we’ve also run into some recent home improvement issues big time.

We had a major storm that ruined our roof, fence, and trees.
We painted our cabinets a beautiful white color, and after putting the top coat {oil-based poly} they turned an icky yellow color.
The previous owners had a super light carpet and our four little ones have beat it up pretty bad.

You get my point. We’ve all been there.
