Sausage Sizzle

The Brethren of Kianawah Lodge conducted a Sausage Sizzzle at Bunnings (Cannon Hill) on a very wet Saturday in April and with the kind dollar for dollar subsidy from the Board of Benevolence were able to donate $2100.00 to the FragileX Association of Australia.

Wynnum Spring Parade

The members of the Lodge conducted a raffle at Bunnings Cannon Hill, and Remax Wynnum.

As a result, the proceeds were passed to the Wynnum Spring Festival Committee for distribution to SARS which is a Charity working with depression.

Melbourne Cup

It was another successful day on Sunday the 30th October.
34 Adults and 8 Children enjoyed another superb breakfast, at Lota park, which was kindly prepared by the brethren of the lodge.
The children enjoyed themselves and were excited when Santa , Wor Bro McKenzie, gave out presents on behalf of the lodge.
Special thanks to Trevor and Thelma for the gifts for the children.

Cheque Presentation

Kianawah Lodge brethren presented a cheque for $2340 to the president of the Wynnum spring festival on Friday the 21st October.
Proceeds from a raffle conducted by the Lodge for that purpose over a 10 week period.
Special thanks to the 24 brethren and ladies who assisted.

Fragile X

On the 29th of July, 2011, the Kianawah Freemason's lodge presented the fragile x association of Australia (FXAA - QLD Branch) with a cheque for $3200. This donation was a combined donation of $1600 from the QLD Freemason's Benevolence fund and $1600 from the Kianawah Freemason's lodge, who sold a LOT of sausage sizzles at Cannon Hill Bunnings.

The FXAA will be using this donation towards FXAA workshop events being held in Queensland this year.

We are very grateful to the Freemason's, not only for this monetary donation, but for donating their time to this very important cause.

A special thank you goes out to Bob and Gloria Clark, Trevor Smith, John Castleton, Steven Lewis, Neville Ball, Alex Evans and to the Benevolence fund.

It is always very humbling and heart warming to know that there are people out there not directly affected by fragile x, but who are willing to donate their time and energy to the FXAA.

Proclamation

Another year and another Installation. This time however it was to be a Proclamation.

The W.M. Bro Mackenzie was to be proclaimed the W.M. for the second consecutive year.

There was a large turnout of Kianawah Members and visiting Brethren, which totalled 80 Brethren in the Lodge room.

This was a first for Kianawah, as this was to be the first time for many years that the Lodge had 5 Stewards invested (all Master Masons).
After the Ceremony all the Brethren made their way to the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre for the festive board, where the visitors of the Lodge were waiting, which included Wives of the Members of Kianawah and their guests.

All in all this was a great night and we look forward to next year’s installation!

Kianawah's community work

Members from Kianawah agreed that they would sell raffle tickets to raise funds for the Wynnum Scouts, to allow them to purchase 5 new canoes. The scouts have been in Wynnum for 100 years, therefore the Brethren got to work to achieve this goal.

This was achieved by the Brethren, by selling the tickets in the local area, and to friends and family.

The below is an excerpt from the letter received from the Wynnum Scouts Group Secretary

"The Wynnum Scouts would like the thank the Freemasons, Wynnum for their support of the Group in way of their fundraising efforts that enabled us to purchase five brand new canoes complete with oars and lifejackets. The youth members will have many years of enjoyment with them and wholeheartedly, once again thank the Wynnum Freemasons".

3rd of May and a 3rd degree.

This month saw another 3rd degree, and for the worthy Brother, it was a long time coming.

This was the last remaining Fellow Craft, who had started his Masonic journey back in February 2010, and now taking his Master Mason degree.

It was also a particularly memorable evening for some newly raised M.Ms as they had a charge to perform.

The candidate received favourable words from the W.M. for the attention he displayed and the correctness of the test put before him, and the composure he showed throughout.

Afterwards followed with the usual festive board, were the Kianawah Brethren welcomed the visiting Brethren.

A good night was had by all.

A new month and a new candidate

This month we had a candidate for initiation.

The turnout was exceptional. This was capped by a Fraternal visit from Scotia Lodge, with the W.M. being accompanied by his officers and some Entered Apprentices.

The candidate showed great attention to all the charges that were delivered, and was congratulated by the way in which he conducted himself.

To finish the night we had the usual festive board allowing the members and visitors to share a joke or two.

I'm sure that the candidate will agree that this was a night that he'll remember for some time to come!

New Year

Happy New Year!

2011 has certainly started, and in fact it feels like we're off to a flyer already.

As most of you know, we close our Lodge doors after the December meeting and re-open them again in February.

Since then there have been some major issues that have affected Queensland.

75% of the state has been declared a disaster zone after the recent flooding that affected, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Dalby, Toowoomba, Ipswich and Brisbane. These floods have been compared to the floods of 74.

Homes were devastated and in some cases destroyed completely. Some will take months to clean, and that's just the start of it. Then there is the loss of life. Homes can be replaced but lives can't.

1st Degree, Birthday and Prawns

What an end to the year!
It was the last meeting of 2010, and what better way to end it, than by conducting another 1st degree.

The candidate showed great poise and attention throughout the ceremony. The officers of the lodge didn't let the candidate down either,they conducted themselves in the usual manner, and the level of work carried out was excellent. There were aslo some favourable words from the A.G.S.W.
Following the closing of the lodge, all Brethren and visitors went upstairs for the Christmas festive board. Being traditional of Christmas time, or at least Christmas in Australia, prawns were served.

It was also a special night for Wor.Bro Clarke. It was his birthday, but he wasn't giving much away on the age front! 21 again Bob?

All that's left for me to say, is that on behalf of the W.M.,officers and Brethren of Kianawah Lodge, we hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable Christmas, and prosperity for the new year ahead.

Special Night

It was a new month, so what better way to start, than by welcoming a new brother into Kianawah.
This time the honour was on Wor Bro.Wilson, as he welcomed his son Jared into Freemasonry.

It was a special night, as our newly initiated brother had not only his father in lodge but his uncle, making the occasion even more memorable.

The candidate showed great poise and composure throughout, and as such was given some favourable words by the A.G.S.W. who was in attendance to witness the occasion.

We welcomed some old and new friends to Kianawah , and as always their presence was greatly appreciated by the W.M and the Brethren of Kianawah.

To finish the evening, we had our usual festive board, and this was capped off with some of Scotland’s finest, Glenfiddich, which was donated by the candidate

Melbourne Cup Breakfast

Another day, another reason for a get together.

Sunday the 31st October saw all Kianawah Brethren and family attend the annual breakfast at Lota Foreshore.

What made this year special?
Well this year the children of the Lodge were treated to a present, which was given out by the W.M. The look on the children's faces were priceless, as they were trying to work out if it was Christmas already, or whether in fact it was their birthday?

All the kids enjoyed themselves as much as the adults, and as a result the event was an overall success.

A special thank you goes out to Bro.Clarke and Gloria for the organising of the food, Bro.Smith and Thelma for the gifts they organised for the children. All their time and effort is appreciated as always.

Can't wait to next year, and hopefully it'll be bigger and better, with more friends of Kianawah attending, making it a "Must" attend event.
