It's been a year since my last blog..my gawd..time flies and I will soon be a year older.Age does catch up quickly, doesn't it?

Many things have changed in the span of a year.. I am home, visited Taiwan, found a job and now resuming my blog.. In fact couple months back I was still struggling to get a decent job, guess the timing was just not right for me, but now I am thankful that I have finally landed myself a proper job. :)

Anyway I realised that I shouldn't quit blogging although most of the time I get so tied-up by work that it's simply impossible to even draft a line... Anyway anyhow I will try to post more often and another thing worth highlighted is that now I have a new partner!!!! wooHoo!!! She'll be joining me in this blog, responsible for snapshots. I am not much a photographer, whereas she's not much into writing, so a little bit of me and a little bit of her shall lead to the creation of a MASTERPIECE!!! hehe~ 2 minds always work betta than 1 after all.

So this is a good fresh start! :)

I was in the toilet,releasing myself, about to cleanse my face and brush my teeth when there was a bang on the door. Must be Hyin, in desperate to set her bladder free. :p
"Alrite." I yelled back. Wait, did I yell? No, no i didn't, just raised my voice slightly higher so that she could hear me.
And the minute I opened the door,.......................Ta-Da....

Oh my gawd!!! I wasn't prepared and I wasn't in a presentable form either! Well...helloooooo... it has already past midnight and it was time for bed. It made sense rite? With my auntie look,and a b'day cake rite in front of me,this was the best b'day bash I've ever had! And the theme for this year was PYJAMAS. Wakeke~

Nevertheless I was sooooooooo touched.Thanks guyz. I was actually browsing through simple cupcake recipes online, thinking that I could bake myself some the next day.Well, it's quite meaningful, isn't it? To bake yourself a cake on your very own b'day?Better still, decorate it with "Happy B'day to ME!!!" on top. OR it would appear to be rather pathetic, from a different perspective coz no one seems to remember to buy you a cake, or worse, even your b'day?!

Anyway anyhow,I am the lucky few for I have a b'day cake and even luckier to have friends celebrating it with me!!!! So cupcakes?? Nah..just forget about it.... :p

Thanks WeiC and Ah Heng for the perfume!!!! Now that I have all my three favourite collections with me.. Hehe~

Travel Journal: London Revisited Day 2

I swear that I must have put on a few pounds over the night! :p
Okay, everyone's basically done. Hyin is tying her shoe lace, me drinking my coffee, already done with the packing coz we are checking out today.
We are supposed to be out of the room 5 minutes ago and here we are still in the room, with me sipping my coffee. :p
Today's itinerary: Buckingham Palace then the Madame Tussauds.
We are hoping that we will be able to witness the Changing Guards Ceremony at the Buckingham Palace.
But now,everything asides, breakie comes first!

Yippee! Ordered mine: Renoir Breakfast at the Art Cafe. Hyin even suggested to go for roasted duck for breakie if Four Seasons is open by any chance and fortunately it's not. *Phew*

10:00am-02:00pm
Went to Buckingham Palace as planned. The first time ever I came across seeing quite a number of Asians communities in London.Let's just forget about Indians, Chinese and Middle East origins for they are simply everywhere.What I meant here are Koreans and Japanese, be it residents or tourists.

Anyway, we were unfortunate enough for we did not get to see the Guards Change Ceremony as it is scheduled for tomorrow. :(
No luck, we then headed to Madame Tussauds thinking that with our fast track entry tickets,we could skip the long queue. And we were wrong AGAIN! I showed the girl our tickets and her answer was: You need to go to the back of the line. Wtf??!! It was like few blocks long??!! So??!!
So the three of us walked to the back of the line, reluctantly. Was there any other way? No,of course.
But it was worth the queue.I enjoyed Madame Tussauds as much as I enjoyed my dinner last night. :) In there,not only we got to see hundreds of wax figurines of the stars (of all sort), royal families,world leaders,cultural figures etc;

but also got to enter the Chambers of Horror whereby there would be real actors trying to scare the shit out of us and they have really done a good job. I, for one, was screaming like hell. Shame on me. :p
The tour did not end here, there was this Spirit of London in which the history of London was told in a very colourful and fun way. Never knew that history could be so interesting. Unfortunately photos and videos were prohibited.

Woo....it's windy and chilly. We are now taking a break in a park in Bloomsbury Square. Too tired to move an inch.
The British Museum is just a stone's throw away.

03:00pm-04:00pm
The admission was free which was fantastic. I've been to the Louvre before,so British Museum was no big deal.Didn't take us long to lose our enthusiasm. Well probably we were so drained of strength, after having to catch the tubes from station to station and the LONG walking journey.

Next we dragged our asses from the British Museum all the way to China Town again coz our friend here, Hyin was craving for roasted duck. :p I know it sounds ridiculous but we just can;t get any back in Liverpool. Since we were in London, we never should have let our chances slip away.
We walked into the Four Seasons Restaurant and ordered a half roasted duck, a big portion of char siu, stir-fry kai lan (it seemed we couldn't get enough of it) and aubergine 'n' salted fish in claypot. All these cost us GBP45 (including the tips).

We managed to get onto the 05:17pm train. Thank gawd. Alrite, in 2 and 1/2 hr, I'll be back in Liverpool . :)
At the end of the day, I am glad that I do not live in London. The city itself is very much vibrant and rich in culture, and yet its hectic lifestyle is simply a put off.

Whoah…we are early! In fact an hour early :D! The departure time for our train to London Euston is at 08:15am. See, told ya we are EARLY. Perhaps it can be explained by once bitten, twice shy. We learn from mistakes and experiences, previous encounters have taught us well that it’s far better to be early than sorry after having to miss the train.

Was raining when I woke up this morning, it was all wet and gloomy when we got out. Not quite a day, eh? Let’s just hope that everything will turn out fine when we get to London *Fingers crossed*.

We are now on board. Everyone’s occupied. LJ can’t take his eyes off his PSP, HYin’s listening to her iPod while cracking her head, solving the Sudoku found in Metro daily;

whereas me, as you can see here, scribbling on my travel journal after toying my new Moto V8. And oh, listening to my Sony Ericsson.

11:50am

Yes!! Our room’s ready. I was expecting the receptionist to tell us to come back again after 2pm. But I was wrong. Hehe~ A nice and cozy room it is, with a double decker and a single bed. I’m gonna take the top!

12:00pm – 12.00am

After our lunch we took the tube to Embankment where the London Eye could be seen from afar. I’ve never got to do the eye in my previous visit, so I made sure that I’d made it this time, by all means. :p The whole process from queuing to purchase the tickets to another long queue ahead to get into the capsule actually took us 1 hr. Well come to think of it, it wasn’t that bad after all. And the rotation took us another 30 mins.

After the eye, we headed to Tower Hill where the London Tower is. Been there before so we made the stroll short and quick. Before I knew it, we were already out of here, making our way to the tube station to get to Oxford Street, a shopping heaven. After having to be in and out the tube stations, I could feel my face was getting greasy and dusty, my scalp was oily and it was simply not the best moment to go for a shopping spree. All I knew was I’d been ushered to move along the street by throngs of shoppers and commuters. I needed some fresh air!!

So for our own good, we decided to go straight to China Town and met up with LJ’s friend, Jimmy for dinner.

Oh my, Jimmy has been really really really generous to buy us dinner. And it was not just a simple dinner, mind you, but a luxurious treat!

For starters, there were lobster noodle, crispy duck and scallops with rice noodle. Followed by main: Steamed eel in black bean sauce, stir-fry kai lan, honey braised pork and a yong tau foo look-alike dish. Then there was dessert: Iced red bean soup.

My goodness, I was too loaded to utter a word! Man, it was finger-licking good!

We then went for a leisure walk-around after the hefty dinner.

Before we parted with Jimmy and his gf,Cherry, they managed to talk us into having ice cream at Haagen Dazs. These guys have 5 stomachs I suspect! And we have to queue for 15-20 minutes just for a table! Excuse me, it was freaking chilling....

Minutes after 12:00am

At this hour,one could have the whole coach to himself. :p

12:43am

Finally we called it a day and are back in our room. I can hardly lift my eyelids… Imagine being out for more than 15hours without a break…my feet are protesting. I need to crash now.

Taiwan

drama series Fated to Love You. Hehe~

That’s so not me right? For someone who is turning 26 in a few days’ time, and yet is still so much into 'ou xiang ju'. There was a day when the internet connectivity was so low that we actually watched it on Hyin's iPod (a different line). :p

Guess the experts are right about one thing: in order to look young, one ought to start with the heart. :p That was what I have been practicing lately. Hahaha… But trust me, this drama series is hell a good one, if not the best. Lots of story twisting when you least expect it, tears flooding and at some point the story vividly portrayed the stark realities of life which is the reason why I love it so much.

Okay, enough rambling of that. The main purpose of this post is to let y’all know that I’ve been well, counting down the days and that I am heading to LONDON tomorrow! I have been to London once, on a very tight schedule. In less than 20 hours upon touched down (in London), I was on my way heading to Munich the next morning. So I have never really had a closer look at the megacity and its beauty. But fear not for I am gonna do it tomorrow. :)

P/S: This entry is all about cosmetics, so if you happened to be a babe, do read on, if you are a dude, then might as well ignore this OR read on, so that you have a better idea of what to get for your spouse when cosmetic is concerned. Remember, babes like to be pampered, dude. :)

Let’s start with the basic shall we?

Facial Skincare

Over the years I’ve tried on countless salon brands, and not to mention how much I’ve spent solely on my face. My first ever cleanser and toner brand was called Meero which is an obsolete brand now I guess. Never seen it on the shelves since…like more than 10 years ago? All through my adolescence, I’ve developed a hyper-sensitive skin type which means getting a suitable facial skincare has become a challenging job. There was a point where I nearly gave up and let it be. I don’t know about guys but for ladies, it is very much frustrating for not being able to find a suitable facial skincare, especially for a hyper-sensitive skin type like myself!

Thank gawd I’ve eventually found myself one! It’s known as Drs Seager.

The range is exceptionally good for acne-prone skin (I have a sudden acne outbreak 3 years ago).

I am not saying that my skin is now as smooth as baby’s bottom but at least it has stopped the acne, for the time being (fingers crossed!).

Foundation

I used to be very anti-foundation coz one: I have very sensitive skin, do not wish to have any irritation that might leave ugly scars, a risk that I dare not to take; second: I don’t fancy looking like ICI paint.

But then there are some occasions that call for it. So I turned to my personal skincare advisor: Mommy the Expert. Hehe~

She recommended me DiorSkin Pure Light. And it was the best choice ever.

This liquid foundation doesn’t leave me a cakey feeling, instead it feels light on my skin and above all it looks super natural (literally) as if I wear nothing at all (on my face, duh…where else do you think I am talking about??!!). Plus it’s oil free which is perfect for my skin!

Eyebrow

Due to my not-so-dense eyebrows, I prefer brown shade to black. And the winner goes to………Lancôme’s Crayon Sourcils in Brun 012. It has got a small brush attached to one of its end which makes blending and shaping effortless.

Eyeliner

I’ve tried Kanebo and Shiseido before but my heart goes to Dior Liquid Eyeliner. The main criteria I am looking for is smudge-free and DiorLiner happened to do the wonder. :) It has been one of my must-have items for years.

It glides easily on the lids and does not irritate the eyes. The best part is: it can be removed by water!

So uhm….if it rains…try not to look up to the sky :p

Mascara

Again I heart Dior’s DiorShow waterproof mascara (both black and blue colour). It makes my eyelashes looking fuller and longer, not forgetting sexier. Hehe~

Or the second option would be Maybelline’s Micro-Fibre mascara. The only drawback for Maybelline is that it’s very hard to remove, you risk losing one or two lashes at the end of the day.

Eyeshadow

You would have guessed what my best choice is. Yup, it’s CD too.

And why is that so? Coz it’s long lasting even I am out the whole day and my face is getting greasy. A newly emerged best-liked is Kanebo T’estimo. Why is that so? Coz they have got very cool and shimmery shades, very Japanese. The main point is they are inexpensive.

Unfortunately I don’t use blush. :) Can’t provide any advice. Soree. ^_^

Perfume

Hmm…let me see…My favourites are Versace Bright Crystal and Burberry’s Weekend. They are absolutely gorgeous! Versace Crystal is very sweet, floral and cheerful; whereas Burberry Weekend is a floral feminine scent that lasts forever. Both can be worn casually during the day or elegantly into the night.

Another favourite of mine, Chanel Chance, it gives a stronger scent that spells sexy and is perfect for a romantic date. :) However I do not own any at the moment.

Bon Apetite: Thai Green Chix Curry

On the menu for today’s lunch was Thai green chicken curry served with hot rice.

I am not a big fan of curry (of any type) honestly, but when I tried the green curry once few months back, I loved it instantly, and that has made me coming back for more!

Ingredients:

Chicken (just enough for three)
Thai green curry paste
Onion
Cherry tomatoes
Ladyfingers
Dried chillies (optional)
Approximately a cup of coconut milk

Although I am not fond of curry, that doesn’t mean that I do not like spicy food. Due to my extremely health conscious attitude back then, I try to avoid chilli or spicy food as much as I could. I was a health conscious freak and I’d gone a bit too far, I have to admit. :) Maybe I shall write about it next time.

Anyway back to my green curry. Thinking that the curry paste might not be spicy enough, I chucked in 4 dried chillies to add on the kicks. (I did not add in any dried chillies the first time I cooked it.)

And oh my… it was a terrible mistake…

Just the first spoonful was lethal enough to numb my tongue and set my lips on fire! Next were the teary eyes and runny nose episodes. Unlike wasabi which can be described by “easy come easy go”, this burning sensation lingered on for ages. The curry was exceptionally HOT, so hot that the witness of two life-size volcanoes eruption was made possible before my very own eyes. The couple has literally gone from yellow to orangie to alarming RED then to…*BOOOOOM*, exploded.

The only words that HYin managed to say were: “Wah, this is really HOT!” and she has to stop for a few times to catch her breath before continuing; whereas LJ…my my…poor him… pearls of sweat kept rolling down his forehead and yet he never gave up. I couldn’t help but to laugh hysterically at the sight of them.

So by the end of the meal, everyone has got 2 extra sexy HotDogs in return.

I am so soree guys, it was my fault to add in 4 dried chillies, never thought that ‘4’ is the number to kill. I will be more considerate next time. :)

Sunday

Ever since I had bid farewell to my student life, Sunday has been my favourite day of the week. Sunday is a family day. Sunday is a chill out day. Sunday is a pig-out day. Sunday is a MSN day.

Last Sunday was all about walking and networking. Oh my, only then I realized how long I have not been on foot, at least not as much as I used to. My muscles are aching now…

It started when we were waiting for the bus. It was Sunday so the bus services were not as frequent as weekdays’. Two buses passed us by, both were packed with people, so they didn’t even bother to stop. It was almost noon and everyone was heading down town at this hour. After having to wait for almost 40 minutes, we had decided not to continue waiting, coz even if there was a bus, it would be packed as well, and we did not wanna be late for our appointment with Sandrita. So we walked.

Last Sunday was the second hottest day of the year! And damn I couldn’t use my umbrella, how pathetic. Didn’t wanna end up looking like an alien, you know, these people worshipped the sun, for them, the hotter the better; whereas for me, the hotter the deadlier, no doubt the weather was perfect for photo snapping. By the way I am not so much accustomed to the limelight. :p

HYin was busy taking photos of the rather vibrant city along the way, thanks to the sun though; whereas as I was busy searching for shady pedestrians, hastened my footsteps whenever I was exposed to the sun. If you ever hear me suggesting Pulau Redang as one of my holiday trips, it would be a miracle. And yes I have suggested it once, meaning miracle does happen in real life. Hehe~

Finally we were there, even 15 minutes earlier. :)

That was only the first half, having lunch with Sandrita.

The second half was going for a drink with other ex-colleagues of mine, as one of them, Laura is leaving for Spain this coming Thursday. Never expected that she would leave so soon. Anyway, one could never tell what would happen next, so betta enjoy and treasure life to the fullest!

It was fun hanging out with them, the rest of the evening was spent on camwhoring, gossiping, email addresses exchanging, giggling over silly jokes, and the highlight of the day was our friend, Miss HYin dropped Ewa’s Samsung camera into Laura’s cappuccino!

By the time we had our dinner, it was already quarter to 11pm.

So it has been a productive day and that’s the reason why I love Sunday! :)

Psycho Phone Conversation

I remember an encounter I had when I was working in Filini. It was not the worst I supposed but it was definitely the most psycho ever!!

I was standing by the phone doing something or nothing when the phone rang. I picked up the phone without any hesitation. Here’s how it went.

Me: Hello, Filini. Melissa’s speaking. How may I help?

(It was a guy who spoke in an extremely strong Indian accent on the other end.)

Male voice: Is this the restaurant?

Me: Yes, it’s the Filini restaurant.

Male voice: Is it an Italian restaurant?

(I am not a mean girl, so I answered him in a nice manner.)

Me: Yes it is an Italian restaurant, sir.

Male voice: Good. I would like to make a booking.

Me: Yes, of course. How many is it for, sir?

Male voice: For 4 people.

Me: When would it be?

Male voice: (He told me the date.)

Me: May I have your name and contact number please, sir?

Male voice: XXXXX. My phone number is xxxxxxxxxxx.

(From the name he has given, it appeared to me that he was an Indian. Duh…)

Me: Alright, sir.

(Then the ah neh started to ask me something about the dish we served.)

Male voice: Do you have fish?

Me: Yeah, we do serve fish, monkfish.

Male voice: Ok. Do you serve pati?

(What???!!!! What the heck was that? As I have said he spoke in a very strong Indian accent and I could not quite understand what he was asking. What I managed to make out was something started with pa and ended with ti sound. So I apologized and asked him to explain again, politely.)

Me: I am sorry sir. Please come again.

Male voice: Do you serve pati? Pati?

(Ok, now he was repeating the word and still I couldn’t catch it. I was starting to wonder if it was my problem. At the same time, I felt so embarrassed and I could feel myself blushed, hoping that the ah neh would not lose his temper and hang up on me. Then I thought he might be asking about the antipasti.)

Me: Pati? Well we do have antipasti for starter.

Male voice: No, no. Pati! Pati!

(Oh my gawd, we had a situation here now….I really truly sincerely did not understand what he wanted. And I was praying hard that he wouldn’t hang up and call the reception to complain about my poor comprehension of English.)

Me: I am really really sorry sir. I really don’t understand what you were talking about. Is it a vegetable dish? Or meat?

(I could sense he was getting uneasy and a bit fed up I supposed. Of course he has the right to. I would have exploded if someone on the other end of the phone could not understand me after having me to repeat the same word for the n times. Then here comes the psycho part.)

Male voice: (Speaking in a deeper voice) Do you have a wet pussy?

(What???!!!!!! wtf ???!!!!! Was I hearing it wrongly or it was what came out of his f**king mouth? I was shocked, stunned, speechless for a few seconds. Offended, but I was uncertain if he was over-reacting or he was only JOKING.)

Me: Excuse me sir? (I said wryly)

(Now he was explaining.)

Male voice: Is your pussy wet?!

(Son of a bitch! How was I supposed to answer?! I could have hung up on him but I didn’t for fear that it was a rude gesture and he might be offended, or worst complain about me!)

Me: Sir do you still want your booking?

Male voice: Oh yes, is it done?

Me: Yes. (Without a second thought, I hung up before he could utter another word.)

I told my manager about what happened and let her sort out the rest since I had his name and number.

Come to think of it, I was sooooooo stupid then. I should have hung up! But I DIDN’T!!!!! Bugger…

Now it’s time for revenge!

My Sayang (Miss Tak Sedap :p, a very very very dear friend of mine) passed me this few years back when I was at my lowest point, if I am not mistaken :). I regarded it as something so precious and true that I have never deleted it ever since I saved it in My Document. The reality of Love that is so well portrayed in words, that not only captures my heart but also touches my soul. Thanks dear...that indeed eased my bleeding heart..

This makes for some really interesting reading.
So what has life really offered u?
Four people you will meet in life.
Life is the process of finding love;
every person will need to find four persons in their life.
First person is u,
Second person is the one you love most,

In life,firstly you will meet with the one you love most,and learn how love feels.

Shopping could never be so much easier, particularly for groceries!! How come I have never ever opted for this option before, even though I knew of its existence way back before I was born?! Geez, I am sooooooooo thick! Now that the bus company has profited from my hard-earned wages (£1.50/trip and only Buddha knows how much they have blood-sucked me for the past 8 months) and not to mention great amount of energy has been wasted on dragging the carrier bags all the way from the bus-stop to my front door. I hate it every time I go for my weekly stock replenishment.

Having to live under the rock for almost 25 years, my judgment has been clouded by my conservative perception that online shopping is not trustworthy, and that privacy will be breached by third party one way or another. Maybe back home, it might be the case, the chances of being cheated are much higher, but here in the UK, I figured out it’s a lot safer.

I usually get my groceries from Tesco. Due to some reasons I decided to shop online instead of me going to Tesco personally. So here are the steps to hassle-free shopping guide.

First, is to log on to Tesco’s website.

Then book a delivery slot. Each slot is priced differently.

For example, weekend will cost more than weekdays. So for me I choose the time slot based on the price, would not want to pay for anything extra, not even a penny extra. After deciding on the time and day, the slot is then reserved for me for the next 2 hours while I do my shopping.

There’ll be a drop-down list by clicking Food & Drink.

So now I can start my shopping by browsing through the categories and pick the items I need. :) By selecting a particular item, it will be added automatically into the shopping basket.

Done with the shopping? Then I’ll just need to view my basket and confirm the items I have selected. If everything’s fine then I can proceed to checkout where I will be asked to confirm my details and most importantly PAY.

Then that’s it, it’s done!!

All I need to do is to wait for the delivery guy to send me my groceries.

See? No more hassles, no more struggling with the carrier bags, and I get my stuff without having me to step an inch out of the house. Isn’t that great???!!!

I love Tesco Online!!!

P/S: Just to clarify, I only e-shop for groceries. When it comes to clothes and footwear, I still prefer to visit the outlet myself.

After standing under the scorching sun for more than 45 minutes and thereby increasing my risk of getting skin cancer (alright, I have exaggerated a bit, it was not that HOT, and I could use some Vitamin D), and to put it in a blunt way, I needed to eat. It was already past lunch hour, almost coming to tea time. I guess that was supposed to be my lunch. Hmm…the marriage between breakfast and lunch produces brunch. What about matching lunch and tea-time/ tea-break?? Would it be:

a) lunchea (pronounced as lunch-chi)? It sounded more like lán sí.. I am a Hokkien, so it’s a bad idea

b) tunch (pronounced as tan-ch)? Err.. not a good one either, should start with the word ‘lunch’.

c) lutea (pronounced as liu-tee, I invented that)? Hmm.. I can live with that. :p

While making our way to the city centre, we were trying to make up our minds where to feast. I didn’t feel like consuming fast food although at times I have a sudden intense craze for it, especially McD :) I suggested going for Chinese buffet. HYin was indecisive, whereas LJ was practically fine with anything. Half way through, I changed my mind again. :) I was indecisive. At last we settled on the Tea House (or chá zhuang in Mandarin).

Tea House is a small, simple restaurant located in Bold Street. As the name suggests, it serves Asian food.

I’ve been there once, more than half year ago I reckoned. It doesn’t have much room to cater for huge crowd and yet it has this pleasant ambience that reminds me of Little Taiwan in One Stop, Penang.

Before stepping into Tea House, I have already known what to drink. Iced yin-yeung! We decided that we each ordered a main then shared amongst ourselves. Without much difficulty, I had my eyes on Seafood in Portuguese sauce, served with rice. The couple ordered Hainan Chicken rice and char kuey teow, respectively.

So here comes my iced yin-yeung.

It was so-so, too much tea probably. So far the best iced yin yeung still goes to Kim Gary. :) Soree, Tea House, you just need to try harder next time.

Within minutes after drinks were served, our mains followed. LJ’s char kuey teow was the first to come, followed by Hainan Chicken Rice and mine was the last.

Presentation wise, my Seafood in Portuguese Sauce scored badly.

The char kuey teow was good, but of course it was not as excellent as those of Penang’s.

We are in the UK, so I shouldn’t be complaining much. Upon ordering it, we were warned by the waiter that it was a spicy dish. How considerate of him.. but uh.. we’d like our kuey teow to be spicy, the spicier the better. Taste wise, I guess they must have used ketchup for the base coz it was sweet with mild spicy.

Oh I loved the chicken rice!!

The rice was just right, not too oily and yet it gave a full flavour of typical fragrant chicken rice. The steamed chicken was alright but it was the ginger dip that won my heart over. Back home, chicken rice is served with a side of chilli, and at some point it is the chilli that determines the popularity of a chicken rice stall. However here, chicken rice is served with a side of ginger dip instead of chilli.

The ginger dip gave a tangy, salty and garlicky taste, when had it with the chicken, the combination was superb! An absolutely blend of perfection. I rated it 10/10!

The Seafood in Portuguese Sauce was a big let down. Couldn’t quite figure out what sauce that was, but what I could be sure of was it was too creamy, too much of coconut milk and very filling. Not recommended.

In a nutshell, the winner goes to….Hainan Chicken Rice!

By the way did I mention that I am half Hokkien and half Hainanese, perhaps a little bit of Cantonese? :p

The Tall Ships' Races 2008

The day was brilliant, clear blue sky with gusting of wind, a lovely day for an outing.

The organizer must have done their research well in choosing the perfect date for it was the day for the Parade of Sail whereby over 70 vessels around the globe that filled Liverpool’s quaysides and docks for the past 3 days began their 5-week Tall Ships’ Races 2008 voyage. But it is not until 23 July when the race is officially begun, departing from the northern coast of Northern Ireland, sailing across the North Sea heading towards Norway.

I was amazed. By the large number of people who turned up at the Albert Dock, despite the fact that it was Monday!

I repeat MONDAY! I don’t get it. It wasn’t a Bank Holiday or anything, so where the hell did those people come from?! Did they not have to work? Were they all mostly tourists? *Ahem, for my case it’s a bit different, I see myself as a tourist. :p* It was an unsolved mystery. And finally I have to agree with The Bangles that it was just another Manic Monday. Case closed.

So in the back of my head, I was expecting to see a picture of the fleet sailing past in echelon when the clock struck 2pm. That is how a parade of sail supposed to be and that would be quite an awesome view. So I waited patiently.

However I later realized that I was wrong about the parade. I regretted for not reading the papers. The ships were divided into 8 sections and the fleet did not sail past in echelon, instead they sailed past one by one. What??!! Imagine a ship, sailing past, the crowd cheers, it is then followed by another vessel, the crowd cheers again…the whole thing’s gonna repeat until all the vessels have sailed past. Well, soree, I am just not that kind of person who would stand there and cheer for over 70 times, I tend to lose my patience halfway, and I believe so does the crowd.

Anyway due to my err…petite figure, it was not of any advantages. Sad to say my visibility was limited to only 100meter, so I passed Hyin my baby (Canon S5 IS) and let her do the job on my behalf. :)

It did not take long for the crowd to lose their patience. Right after the Mexico vessel, everyone started to leave,obviously they were bored,just like me *Hehe~*. See, I was right about that.

Anyway the whole event was not something to shout about, but at least the weather was great and the outing itself was very much appreciated.

Headed down town, grabbed a coffee (although I’d already had my decaff. coff. before going out. Somehow I figured out that I could do some caffeine fix), had a quick catching up with Tania. Before that I had gone to Tesco. So those were the groceries that I bought after the freaking slug incident. But I totally forgot about SALT!! Buddha blessed me this time….

Was raining all day. Did not even bother to step out of the house. Rainy day was a perfect day to pig out and idled away the hours in my comfy zone. :)

FRIDAY

Our plan of the day was to go to Albert Dock, snapped as many photos as possible and be amazed or thrilled by the pirate ships (Liverpool is hosting the Tall Ships’ Races 2008), then went shopping.

It was a gloomy day, with light showers and it was definitely not a day for photo-snapping session. Not wanting to miss our chances, we insisted on going anyway, convinced that there would be surprises awaiting us.

Getting off in Dale Street, we walked up to Liverpool One and headed straight to the Albert Dock which was merely a 10-min walk away. The weather might be sort of a disappointment but that did not hinder the huge crowd from flooding the dock. And I happened to be one of them. :) So I thought to myself: Judging from the throngs of visitors, there must be something exciting going on. I was lucky to be there. YooHoo!!

A few vessels were in sight, so without any hesitation I pulled out my Canon and started snapshot-ting. Well, they were alright, just some plain ships, not something I expected.

They must have saved the best one last, it must have parked somewhere further down, I told myself, or giving myself an excuse to at least follow the flow of the crowd. Owing to the cloudy weather, there was no hint of liveliness in the photos I’d taken and I was not happy to see that. So approximately 20 minutes into the journey, I lost my interest and called it off. I’d rather spent my day shopping.

So we walked back up to Liverpool One and started our shopping spree. :) Females were born to be shopaholics, and males counterparts have betta lived with it. Then I had a crazy idea and suggested to HYin: Lets do the Karen Cheng pose.

We walked into ZARA, found ourselves a full length mirror, positioned ourselves, made sure that no one was watching then *SNAP*. Doing the Karen Cheng pose. :) (I've joined the Doing The Karen Cheng group on Facebook and thus posted this photo up ^_^) From the corner of my eyes, I saw a lady was staring at us…So what? Never see someone taking photo before ar? Having to say (think) that, we casually walked away and pretended that nothing happened at all. Hehe~

A Slug War

That’s it! I HATEEEEEEEE this house!!!!!!!!!! Because I have to put up with water leaking problems, funghi proliferation, lousy front door, idle washing machine & microwave, and above all SLUGS!!!!

I oughtta express my hatred and if possible I would have burnt the whole house down and shouted at the top of my lungs: You are f***ing going down!!!!

There was a huge slug appearing on my bedroom’s wall last night, a few inches from the door. Geez can you ever imagine sharing your room with a slug??!! My reactions upon seeing it was spontaneous, as if a warning alarm has been alerted: Screeched in fright and run like hell.

HYin and LJ had to take care of it afterwards.

I merely slept and I barely moved the whole night, for the pictures of horrific images kept flashing through my mind. I did not dare to move for fear that once I turned my head around I’d come face to face with another huge slug, lying beside me. Or there would be loads of them all over my room, on the floor, the wall, the wardrobe…. Worse, they would eat my alive! Dammit, now that my room is no longer safe. Might as well commit suicide.

Things that I hate, no. No, in this context ‘hate’ is inappropriate to describe how I feel towards them, ‘fear & horror’ would be more relevant here.

The Top 3:

Worms

Regardless of the size, any organism that does not possess any legs or too many legs e.g. caterpillar would have given me a cardiac arrest. And slugs happened to be in this category. Worse comes to worst, I tear like a baby, as what happened last night. I could not explain as to why I am sooooooooooo afraid of them. By just typing the word ‘worms’ is already potent enough to give me goose bumps. At the very sight of them, I could go berserk. Maybe it’s in the gene. I remembered my grandma used to tell me how a leech could enter the vagina and breed there. I questioned the credibility of the story, albeit it did scare the sh*t out of me. But between a telltale and a fact, I chose the fact. Although unlike leech, slugs are basically ‘vegetarians’, they are still my enemy of the enemies!

Rodents

Rats, mouse, lemming….whateva that comes under the family is a threat to me, again regardless of size. That’s the reason why I will never ever opt for hamster as a pet. Well no doubt it’s nice to look at, but….betta stay away from me. Never ever come near me in a few metres radius!

Height

I still remember back in my uni days when I had to take the stairs leading up to DK3 and DK4 (UTAR, Setapak campus) which is situated at the top floor of the 4-storey building. When I ascended the stairs I never looked down, or to left/right. And I walked as far from the banister as possible.

Whenever I am upset or pissed off, I shop or I eat. Today I am gonna shop! (Actually I need to go to the bank and shop for groceries also la.. :p)

Gonna arm myself with tonnes of salt. You’d betta watch out slugs!! I shall show you no mercy!!! *Evil laughs*

My weather widget reads 17°C and the max. temperature for today would be 20°C.

I don’t like it. Although it’s gonna rain, it’s still gonna be bloody warm.

I know it’s nothing as compared to M’sia which is probably in the range of 26-30°C in average, I shouldn’t be complaining. But strange enough when I was in M’sia 2 months back I didn’t really feel the heat. It was actually the high humidity that almost killed me, feeling sweaty and sticky all over. Yaiks…that was disgusting!

Here in the UK, the weather is burning hot and dry. Worse.

Back home when it was warm, fret not coz I could just easily switch on the fan or air-conditioner and put it to the max; whereas here the only electrical appliance that ventilates the air is this mini heater fan. That's not my leg by the way. You can’t even feel the cooling wind except your feet since it’s on the floor. If your pits are sweating, well you just gotta hug it to your chest or find a way so that it’s attached to your chest. :p *I’ve never done that before, so I don’t guarantee it works that way.* All I need to do is to stretch out my arms and flap for a while, then Ta-Daa dry pits. ~MuaHaha…

The weather forecast back home is crap. Never once in my life it provides an accurate forecast, not even close to as a matter of fact. Anyway I don’t bother to know either, coz it’s either rain or sunny. Very much predictable. But here it is always essential to check on the weather forecast before going out, so that you know which sweater/jacket/overcoat to put on. How often the English has always said that one can experience all the 4 seasons in just one day. And we should listen to them well.

It’s time for lunch, gotta run.

Bon Apetite 3: Quarter-Pounder Lamb Burger

After a night of Italian, we have decided to go for Western, for goodness sake. Since HYin and I can’t take beef, it’s simply 2 to 1 and the majority wins. So Li Jing has to oblige to our Lamb Burger instead of Beef Burger. Soree mate…

It’s absolutely true that I dislike fried stuff or oily food, but heck, life’s a short, so aim high! Which means instead of avoiding getting diabetes, I should try to get myself a complication of diseases. Buy 1 (illness) and get 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (diseases),…etc free. CHOY!!!!! I treasure my life (or health) as much as I value my family. All I’m trying to say is that I should get creative and explore my tastebuds as far stretch as possible so that I bear no regrets when I have one foot in the grave.

Waking up feeling starved this morning (it was almost noon to be exact :p), and with the visions of mouth-watering burger lingering on my mind, everyone was assigned a task or tasks to speed things up. Me, taking care of the burgers and salad, HYin was in-charged of the onions, buns, eggs, whereas Li Jing was responsible for drinks and not to forget camera man as well as KP (kitchen porter).

After don’t-know-how-long of frying, tossing and turning, we were ready to feast. Lamb burger served with fresh and crisp salad, and Tia Maria coffee. It would have cost us more than £10 per person if we were to eat out. In total that would be £30++ (= RM 193++) and that’s just for lunch.

Once looked at the mounted burger, I knew instantly that I was going to skip dinner tonight. For sure!

Indulgence to me, means high-end splurging, fine dining, dressing up, branded goods, manicure & pedicure, first-class travelling etc, anything that only the wealthy can afford. How shallow I was back then.

My definition for indulgence has changed ever since being frugal has been my calling. And now this is what I called indulgence.

Good companions.

Good food (anything edible and presentable, plus doesn’t cost much)

Good moments of fun.

15 minutes or so gone by and we have a winner!!! HYin was the first to wolf down her burger. She must have got quite a big, sharp, efficiently functioning molar there. :p I was taking mine real slowly because…damn.. it was really filling. *Luckily I was wearing a pair of elastic, stretchable pants*

Eventually, no food was wasted except HYin’s. That was not a wise choice, luv. Should have finished your greens.

As I am posting this blog, 5 hours after our more-than-satisfying lunch, I am still feeling satiated.

Experiment 2

I love desserts no doubt but I just don’t have the desire to learn making one. I am always under the impression that it involves loads of work and steps as well as time consuming. Just the thought of baking itself is enough to make me quailed, let alone going through those intricate recipes.

Until one day a friend of mine gave me this recipe thinking that I might have liked it for it has got cream in it. After taking a good look at the recipe, I must say it appeared to be relatively simple, no sophisticated terms, no lengthy steps (in fact just 3 steps!). There’s always the first time, first step, first move, first love, first kiss… (oops, guess I’ve gone a bit too far, haven’t I? :p), so I decided to give it a try.

It’s called Mango Icebox and it’s supposed to be a layered dessert, so I was told.

Ingredients:
1 can condensed milk
1 box (250ml) all purpose cream ( I used fresh double cream)
1 can (370ml) evaporated milk
1 pack Graham crackers (I used digestive biscuits)
3 pcs ripe mango (I used the whole mango instead)
Sugar to taste

The steps:

1) Mix all liquid ingredients plus sugar.
2) Put enough amt of mixture into a square/rectangular container, just enough to cover the bottom of the container.
3) In the same container put one layer.

You see after Step 3, the subsequent steps were not explicitly stated which was a big No-No for a first timer like me. I was confused and turned to my friend again. He explained and apparently after laddering the mixture (to form the first layer) into the container, it has to be put into the freezer to solidify. Wahai kawanku, had I not asked I would have chucked everything in including the cracker crumbs and froze it last. Then my layered dessert would turn out to be all-in-one dessert. Alright I don’t blame him for he was not the one who made the dessert, his cousin did. That’s the consequences of getting a recipe from someone who happened to be responsible to eat only. :p

Ok, after the first layer has solidified (after an hour or so), add in the second layer which is the cracker crumbs. Put it back to the freezer to harden.

Take it out, add in the mango chunks and the mixture, put it back in. Just keep on layering. Didn’t get to finish layering until the next day, owing to some technical problems. Hehe~

When a girl learns baking, there's only for a few reason:
1) Interest
2) To impress her loved ones (be it family, close friends or spouse)
3) She has to coz she has no other choice.

Well in this case, I’d probably go for the second option.

Ok so here’s how it looks like. Not sure if it’s supposed to look this way for I have never seen the one that my friend had before. Will throw him the question when I meet him (online). In terms of visual presentation, I’d give myself 6/10, merely pass.

A problem occurred when I was trying to cut a portion out. It was frigging hard! Stone-hard! Geez, so much for an icebox, it has turned into ice cube now. HYin gave me a hand and after a few attempts, we finally got it out. Look at the mess we’ve made. Quite a struggle eh? Unfortunately the last two layers were too stony to cut through. So now on a scale to 10, I’d say negative!

Eager to find out how it tasted, I forked myself a bite as soon as I sank my butt down. It was slightly deformed at this point I have to say. Hmm...Very sweet (too much sugar probably), creamy, icy cold and HARD!

So we decided to leave it for a moment and play cho dai di.

Few minutes later: That was what left of me, there was no way I could win.

As expected I lost.

But then we managed to finish the whole piece of mango icebox eventually. :)

As for me there’s still plenty of room for improvement, both the cho dai di and dessert-making. :)

I stumbled upon her while I was amid reading Kenny Sia's blogs. The fact that she’s actually few years younger than I am and she was born and raised in Malaysia, having to engage in this kind of lifestyle since the age of 16 really left me speechless and overwhelmed. Not that I’m totally against of her lifestyle, as a matter of fact I do respect her for who she is and the road she chose to travel, as long as she enjoys what life has to offer, then that’s it.
