Want a car that will last a long time and will not become a money pit? Then Honda and Toyota are the only cars to choose from! Those manufactured in Japan are best. Japanese workers are most diligent and maintain highest quality standards.

I am a big fan of Scotty Kilmer. After watching many hours of his YouTube channel videos, I am convinced that most other brands are "crap" compared to Honda and Toyota.

Whatever brand of car you buy be sure to change your oil and filter every 5,000 miles (or 8,046.72 km) or every 6 months (whichever comes first), change your timing belt every 100,000 miles (160,934.4 km) and turn your engine off if it is overheating.

If a manufacturer advises you can wait longer for oil and filter changes do not wait longer! Dirty oil destroys engines.

If your car has a timing belt and it breaks your engine may be destroyed.

If you are considering buying a used car have a good mechanic check it out thoroughly. Read the engine computer with a top quality car code reader diagnostic tool. The better the reader the better your diagnosis will be. Don't settle for the inexpensive readers. A really good mechanic will have one like this. In fact a really cheap one could destroy a car's computer.

Pull a spark plug. If it is black with oil Do Not Buy the car!

If the car is rusty Do Not Buy it!

If the car smells musty or if there is water in the headlights Do Not Buy it (it may have been flooded).

About Scotty Kilmer (excerpt from Wikipedia)

Early life

Scotty Kilmer was born on October 2, 1953, in Niagara Falls, New York. At age 14, he learned to be a mechanic from his grandfather, Elmer Kilmer, who was the chief mechanic at the Texaco gas station which Scotty's father owned. He studied at York University for his undergraduate degree and then attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, receiving a master's degree in anthropology. He was in the process of working towards his Ph.D., but eventually quit, due to his dissatisfaction with the university tenure system. Kilmer would then go on to become a mechanic and move to Houston in 1980. Upon the suggestion of his wife, Kilmer wrote a book, Everyone's Guide to Buying a Used Car and Car Maintenance, originally published in 1994. Its release led Kilmer to be on the front page of the Houston Chronicle, which attracted the attention of the local CBS affiliate KHOU.

Career

Before YouTube, Kilmer had a television show on KHOU titled Crank it Up with Scotty. In this series, he showed the audience how to diagnose minor automotive mechanical problems, offered opinions on vehicle engineering, and provided solutions to low-profile problems. In 2004, Crank It Up earned a Regional Emmy Award for "Outstanding Interactivity"; Kilmer subsequently received an Emmy for "Best Interactive Car Talk Host.." His YouTube channel is much the same, and he answers questions about car problems and the vehicle industry, and gives advice. Kilmer typically uses his customers' cars in his videos as a point of comparison or other demonstrations with various products he uses as a mechanic.

Years ago we were traveling by taxi a lot. Most taxis here are Toyotas. We had a favorite driver and one day I asked him which brand was best. He replied, without hesitation, "Toyota." I ask why and he explained, they are all over the Philippines and therefore when you need parts they are readily available. Made sense to me. Hondas are also all over the place because, like Toyota, they have a very good reputation, so today we own a Honda. Our next car may be a Toyota.

"I work in a GM plant which used to be a joint venture between Japanese automaker and GM. First 10 years there we had to implement KAIZEN as the Japanese insisted on it. Then GM bought out the Japanese portion and we became 100% General Motors. Our assembly plant hasn't been the same ever since and quality has been declining rapidly, mainly due to difference in philosophy and approach. When we were half Japanese, when employees spotted defects and stopped the line to correct or report it, we were praised, and we would often receive gift cards etc... Under General Motors if you stop the line to point out a defect you can actually get in trouble, you're told that this is for Quality department to worry about it and not you, and if everyone will start stopping line for every little thing, we won't get our numbers. And a lot of issues won't get picked up by Quality because by the time it gets to them, other parts covered the defect etc... Also, under Japanese involvement we had Quality Check Team at the end of every line, and we had shower booths to test for leaks. Since GM took over completely, they completely removed shower booths, we no longer test for leaks, and we only have check team at end of Final line, where they are very limited to what they can detect."

"Looking at future service schedules nothing popped out, same oil and check list with air filter thrown in every 25,000 miles or so. Basically Toyota maintenance is oil changes for the first 100,000 miles.

Word of warning, the local Toyota dealer attempts to make up for the lack of recommended services by asking if you want their “preventive service” for $200. When I asked what was included in such service they listed a bunch of silly things like filling the tires with nitrogen, and a protective coat on paint. Knowing a bit about cars I could find nothing on the list that was anything but a scam.

In fact there was no "J" in the Hebrew language in the Messiah's time, or even in the English language until the 1,500s when the letter "J" was invented and added to the English language.

"Our Creator's real Name, YHWH (Yahuah) was removed from 7,000 places in the Bible and replaced with "God," "Lord," "Adonai," and "Jesus" even when they knew: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name (YHWH - Yahuah) under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Constantine was the all-powerful leader of the Roman empire and he decided to create a new god for everyone in his empire to worship. So, he ordered 50 "wise" men to suggest new names for him. Over a year later they submitted 50 new names. After deliberation he selected two, "Iēsoús Krishna," which in the mid 1,600s became "Jesus Christ," but it was too late for the 1611 King James Bible.

Our second electric vehicle in the Philippines.

A while after buying our first house in the Philippines we bought our first electric Tri cab. I posted about it on May18, 2022.

Our children were attending a private school near our house. There were a lot of hot days and some rainy days when it was nice to pick them up in our Honda Odyssey. I was accustomed to walking to school with them and meeting them after school. The return trip was very hot many days. We found that we saved on fuel, oil and maintenance when going back and forth to school.

It was nice to cruise around our neighborhood and shop the vendors on the road near us.

It lasted for a couple of years before we decided to get rid of it for a newer model. It had an old-style foot brake and a pull up emergency handbrake.

Well, I tried to sell that one to no avail. My wife's cousin was adding a new kitchen and bedroom to our house & he showed some interest in it, so we let him send it to his son in a different province. That freed up some space in our crowded carport (called a garage by Filipinos).

Then we bought a new Lucky Lion brand Electric "tri cab". This one now has brakes operated by hand like a motorcycle. We use it quite often. After a lot of planning, we have finally started a food and drinks delivery business. Now we use it to deliver to customers in and surrounding our neighborhood.

One of my neighbors, here in the Philippines, recently bought a new Tesla Y. I have been thinking about getting one.

What do you think? Should I look into buying a model Y? Or should I stick with Honda or Toyota? China is selling new BYD cars here now. They look really good but I read that they don't have a proven track record.

We have been driving a 2012 Honda Odyssey built in and imported from the USA. It still drives like new.

Toyotas are very popular here. For years we rode in Vios taxis.

We rode in Yellow Cabs
and MGE Cabs mostly.

How Big is Our Creator?

Yahuah Elohim our GREAT Creator!

How big is our Creator?

Is He bigger than the whole world? Is He bigger than all the militaries of the world combined? Is He smarter than all the supercomputers combined? Is He able to listen to and answer all the prayers of His chosen ones?

How big is His heart? How big is His love? Does He have compassion and empathy on all He has made? Is He bigger than all the Scripture? Is He bigger than all the books ever written about Him? Is He a Vegan?

Do you know His true character? Do you know that He may not have been portrayed correctly by writers and scribes in the traditions of the "good book"? In fact, even Jeremiah, in the First Covenant (Old Testament), pointed out the fact that Scripture had already been changed.

“How do you say, ‘We are wise, and the Torah of יהוה (Yahuah) is with us’? But look, the false pen of the scribe has worked falsehood."

And it is a known fact that Emperor Constantine hired men to change the Scripture, in 325 A.D., to suit his animal flesh eating habit.

All first believers were Vegans for 325 years.

Early followers were persecuted and killed from 64 AD until Constantine ordered an end to persecution in 313 A.D.

Constantine had his "correctores" change Scripture. He planned to rule the whole world. Ultimate dictator. He removed the real names of our Creator and Messiah and changed them to "God," "Lord" and "Jesus."

I have compiled many verses, from cover to cover, which reveal a very different character of our Creator than is generally taught in seminaries, churches, Sunday schools and assemblies of Yah all over the world.

Does He know all the thoughts of all the people on the world? Does He know the plans of all the evil people of the world? Does He know which people following Him are Vegans and which are not? Which people are following the evil one (who loves eating flesh)?

To quote some early leaders, they said
those who ate meat were "dining with devils."

Wonder with me, does He know, right this minute, which people have a heart to follow Him? Does He know which people have already sold their souls to the evil one?

How Big is our Creator's mind?

The biggest, most powerful, fastest supercomputer made by man is "Frontier."

As of June 2024, the most powerful supercomputer in the world is Frontier. It’s located at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, U.S. and boasts a staggering performance of 1,194 petaFLOPS (1.2 exaFLOPS). Frontier was built by supercomputing giant HPE Cray and became the first exascale computer globally when it went online in 2022. Scientists use it for various tasks, including cancer research, drug discovery, nuclear fusion, and modeling stellar explosions.

Additionally, Europe is planning to complete its own exascale computer called JUPITER in the coming year, which could potentially become the most powerful computer worldwide.

Exciting times for computational science!

“Exascale” sounds like a science-fiction term, but it has a simple and very nonfictional definition: while a human brain can perform about one simple mathematical operation per second, an exascale computer can do at least one quintillion calculations in the time it takes to say, “One Mississippi.”

A computer capable of 1.2 exaFLOPS can perform one quintillion floating-point operations per second. To put that into perspective, imagine a billion people, each holding a billion calculators. If they all hit the equal sign at the same time, they’d execute one exaflop!

Indiana University, home to the Big Red 200 and several other supercomputers, puts it this way: To match what an exaflop computer can do in just one second, you’d have to perform one calculation every second for 31,688,765,000 years.

Now ask, How many exaFLOPS is our Creator's mind capable of? I think you will answer "an infinite number." And you will be correct!

So, our Creator can listen to all our prayers at the same time! He is also capable of answering them all at the same time, or when and if He chooses to.

However, He says He will not even listen to your prayers if your hands are full of blood,

In 2023, it was reported that Happy Cow listed 80 vegan dining options in the Philippine capital region (mainly in Metro Manila.)

Research conducted in 2021 by Rakuten found that 77% of consumers in the Philippines had tried plant-based milk, 51% had tried other vegan dairy replacements, 45% had tried plant-based meats and 31% had tried vegan egg replacements. Primary motivations were health (56%), concern for animals (41%) and concerns for the environment (28%). The same research found that 14% of respondents said that they only consume plant-based foods.

The population of the Philippines is 119,106,224 as of this writing in 2024. So, at 1.2% there would be approximately 1,429,274 Vegans in the Philippines now.

Quezon province, which is South of the National Capital Region, is covered with mountains, valleys and flat areas covered with millions or billions of banana and coconut trees! I think the entire population of the Philippines could survive, with no imports, for many years or forever!

As an American expat, who has lived in the Philippines since 2007, married to a Filipina and raising three Fil-Am children, I am, of course, concerned about developments that may endanger my family. Several years ago, I was granted permanent residency.

Adapting to the Philippines

My children are all enrolled in and attend a Philippine school not far from our home. They have adapted well to the school and have been welcomed by the staff and students. They have made friends there and in our neighborhood. Bridging the gap between native Filipinos and Fil-Ams requires empathy, open dialogue, and a willingness to learn from each other. Both groups share a common heritage, and acknowledging their distinct experiences can lead to a more harmonious relationship.

My wife and I have friends here, Filipinos and Americans. She also has a sister and nieces who live near us. So, we are basically settled in and comfortable here.

We live in a house about 2.5 hours SW of Manila. We are all Vegans now. See how we live as Vegans. My oldest daughter does some baking and has taken some cookies to school for classmates. Recently she participated in an entrepreneurial event on campus. She set up a vending table and sold cookies and drinks to students and staff. She sold out of "cashew chocolate chip" and "red velvet cookies"! See some of her cookies near the bottom of the page.

Now we are concerned about recent developments in the waters of our country of residence.

Should we stay or should we go?

We are thinking about buying another car. Should it be new or secondhand? Under the circumstances I think it will be a used car. It is still too early to make a decision about moving.

As a Vegan and an animal activist I write about veganism and hand out PETA leaflets. Many Filipinos have never heard of PETA and many don't even know what "Vegan" means.

This week I graduated from a local seminary with a Bachelor of Theology degree. I had completed three years of schooling in the USA years ago. Having a lot of spare time, I decided to apply to enroll here, in country, to complete my degree. Fortunately, I was accepted as a student and attended all classes on campus. I am now the first person in my family to have earned a college degree! My wife is next to get a diploma. The children are planning to keep advancing through school. Summer break is coming and that should be fun.

I am now serving as pastor at an online "church." The Internet website "Church for Christian Vegans" and the Facebook Meta group, which is open to the public, Genesis 1:29 Church for Christian Vegans.

As an American expat, who has lived in the Philippines since 2007, it is comforting to know that the Philippines and the USA will be working together to protect all residents. As a Viet vet, who lived and worked in Vietnam for almost a year, I know that most combat is usually outside of areas where most civilians live. I was stationed in the coastal city of Nha Trang. We were permitted to frequent the beautiful beach at select times when we were off duty. We also were allowed to go downtown and visit establishments. We visited historic sites like the 2,000-year-old Ming Dynasty temple near the bridge and the huge Buddha which overlooks Nha Trang.

I now have Filipina wife and three Phil Am children. We live in a house about 2.5 hours SW of Manila. We are all Vegans now. See how we live as Vegans.

So, what am I getting at? If you are residing in the Philippines, let's all stay put and encourage Filipinos to stay strong, live long and prosper.

Where to Live During World War 3

Having lived in the Philippines on and off since 2007 I have become very comfortable with the way of life here. People are friendly. Schools are orderly. Although roads are crowded Filipino drivers seldom respond with road rage and traffic altercations.

While our children are in school on weekdays I spend a lot of time on the Internet. With a website and around 15 Facebook groups I have many inquiries to reply to. Many want to chat about various subjects.

I am a pastor and manage a website named "Church for Christian Vegans" and three Facebook groups by the same name. In a very real sense, I am a missionary for our voiceless animal friends. I share Veganism wherever I go and to whomever I meet. When opportunity presents, I share our website address with people by distributing business cards and leaflets. Anyone may copy and print leaflets found at our website. Hopefully Veganism will gain a strong following in the Philippines. Each member of our groups saves around 365 animals each year by simply leaving them off their plates and not drinking animal by products. Nearly 50 people per week are joining our FB group "Vegan Food and Products for Sale."

Does it look like World War III is coming?

As an American expat and a permanent resident of the Philippines, I am beginning to get an uneasy feeling. I met my Filipina wife in 2007. We now have a home in an upscale American style subdivision, about two hours' drive from Manila, where we live with our three children and one of my wife's cousins who is our live-in housekeeper. We have armed guards at our entrance gates and roaming guards throughout the neighborhood.

Should we stay or should we fly back to the USA? We all have US citizenship. Our children are all Phil Am kids. They and my wife have dual citizenship.

If you are thinking about coming to meet a Filipino now is a perfect time to do it. It can take a while to file the paperwork to apply for your future spouse's travel to your country. We thought about hiring an attorney to help us through the process but finally did it ourselves and saved a lot of money.

Recently it was announced that citizens may now apply to get semi-automatic weapons. Until now gun ownership has been restricted. See my article about self-defense in the Philippines.

As a Vietnam vet I am somewhat knowledgeable about living in war zones. There are always safe places to be in a country even while conflict is raging. When I met my wife, she agreed to travel with me to the island of Mindanao. Her friends and relatives advised her not to go there. The US State department advised not to go or if one must go to use "extreme caution" and "do not stay in one place for too long." Well, we flew there and had a good time for almost a month before flying back to Manila.

There is still time to

There are warning signs that peace may be interrupted by China. Chinese Coast Guard vessels have been harassing Philippine fishing boats, supply boats and even Philippine Coast Guard vessels. Chinese have been blasting Philippine's boats with high powered water cannons. Philippine's boat attacked on a resupply mission. Just one day ago four seamen were injured when China broke their windshield with a huge water cannon.

Their resupply mission had to be aborted and their boat returned to port. Another Filipino boat continued on with the mission and delivered supplies to the military outpost.

The USA has a Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) with the Philippines to come to the aid of the Philippines if it's military troops, equipment or islands are attacked. If the USA were attacked, then Philippines would reciprocate.

Today, March 6, 2024, the government announced that citizens may apply for permits to own semi-automatic rifles. Up until now firearms ownership has been limited to a select group of people: politicians, military, police, lawyers, doctors, businessmen and women and the rich.

Now the Philippines will be more like Switzerland, where almost every house has at least one rifle.

My Favorite Vegan Air Fried Foods

Fresh fruit is my very favorite food. In the Philippines there are always fruits and vegetables at street vendors. A lot of vegetables are trucked into all areas of Greater Manila and all over the island of Luzon. There is fertile land everywhere on the islands of the Philippines.

Some favorite fruits are shipped in from other countries, Apples, Pears and Oranges from the USA and China.

Bananas and Pineapples are grown in the Philippines. Other fruits which grow in the Philippines include, Jackfruit, Mango, Papaya, Calamansi, Durian and Lanzones.

At our house we grow some Atis (Custard Apple), Magic Fruit (make bitter things taste sweet), Okra, Hot Pepper, Papaya, Mulberries, Calamansi, Sitao (very long string beans) and some medicinal plants like Aloe Vera, Insulin Plant, Hibiscus and Butterfly Pea flowers (good for tea).

I am an expat permanent resident of the Philippines. Do I qualify for a senior citizen's ID card so that I may receive discounts? NO.

As Filipino citizen of the Philippines, you are eligible to obtain a Senior Citizen ID. Here are the key details you need to know: Age Requirement: To qualify, you must be 60 years old or above. This age criterion is based on the Republic Act 9994, commonly known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 20101.

Entitlements and Privileges: 20% Discount: Senior citizens enjoy a 20% discount on certain goods and services. VAT Exemption: They are also exempted from the value-added tax (VAT). These benefits apply to applicable goods and services, and you can pay using either cash or credit card.

Health and Medical Benefits: PhilHealth Coverage: Republic Act No. 10645 mandates mandatory PhilHealth coverage for anyone aged 60 and above. This coverage is provided in addition to the 20% discount and VAT exemption.

In private hospitals, the 20% discount and VAT exemption are deducted first from the medical bill before the PhilHealth benefit is applied. In public hospitals, the No Balance Billing Policy ensures that senior patients no longer need to pay for their hospital bills. Treatments can be availed using the senior citizen ID or any government ID.

How to Obtain a Senior Citizen ID: The Office for Senior Citizens’ Affairs (OSCA) issues the Senior Citizen ID. To avail of the benefits, you’ll need to present a valid passport as proof of age.

Remember, it’s essential to equip yourself with this information so you can provide proper care for your senior relatives and help them assert their rights under the law. And who knows, when you reach your golden years, you’ll be well-prepared to enjoy these privileges too!

Church For Christian Vegans

Yes, you were born Vegan!

LIES

So, what happened to most of us? LIES. We were lied to and deceived!

As impressionable little children the lies began in earnest. Parents, teachers, governments and large corporations basically beat it into us, "eat your meat!" "Drink your milk!" "Do you want to grow up to be big and strong as a lion?" And in my case, "Who's going to cut your meat for you in college?" Well, I ended up attending a "Christian" college where we were served a steady diet of dead animals! Bacon and eggs for breakfast, burgers and fries for lunch, liver and onions or other meats for the formal dinner each night. What wonderful training for a bunch of well-dressed flesh munchers!

It was a "Christian" Bible college. The golden rule did not apply when it came to animals.

We learned by example that animals were nothing but food, commodities to be killed and eaten.

Years later I happened to watch a movie titled "Earthlings." My wife and children needed to see it. So, we gathered around the TV in our living room and watched the whole thing. Subsequently we watched more movies, like "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead," "Cowspiracy," and more.

To make a long story short, we all went Vegan! And we have stayed Vegan.

It has been great for our health. We are all trim and healthy. We eat our fill of many wonderful plant-based meals. Indigestion is a thing of the past, no more Tums or Pepto Bismol. No more constipation. No more nasty, stinky farts.

You are what you eat. We will never go back to the old ways, when our bodies were graveyards for dead animals.

We no longer felt at home attending a church nearby. At noon, after the service, members stood around deciding where to go eat flesh. It wasn't long until we decided we would make a statement and leave. We bought new white t-shirts, lettered them with a big black marker, "CHRISTIAN VEGAN," on the backs.

The next Sunday we waited until most were seated, then the six of us walked slowly down the center aisle to a pew near the front.

After the service we said our goodbyes and never looked back.

Sometime later I felt led to start "Church for Christian Vegans."

So, here it is now (October 11, 2023), with 1,831 members in 89 countries and 49 states of the USA. We are learning and we now emphasize the real names of our Creator and Savior in Scripture. It is a place where Vegans can learn, meet, chat and plan a Vegan future.

Flying Back To Manila From USA

We boarded the Etihad Airlines A-380
at JFK in New York headed to Abu Dhabi in
our "economy space" seats. The highest speed
recorded during our flight was 750 mph.

We were in rear facing Business Class seats on
the Dreamliner from Abu Dhabi to Manila

We enjoyed champagne, meals, movies and
then five hours of sleep on our adjustable
seats. With the push of a button our seats turned into
comfortable flat beds. Covered with
the complimentary duvets we slept well.

Beginning of Etihad Airways

We had to fly back to the USA to sign some documents in person.
In this age of electronic signatures, we found that not everyone accepts DocuSign. Banks do not. Well, we had a lot of other business to take care of anyway.

Our good friends loaned us a waterfront condo to stay in while in Florida. They drove us around to several appointments and we hired Uber drivers for more rides.

We are Vegans so we bought a lot of Vegan food to enjoy at the condo. Healthy Choice hot dogs (with catsup, mustard and pickle relish), Italian sausages, cream cheese, frozen Chickun, Pizza and more. We shopped at Walmart, Publix and at our favorite fruit stand.

After about six weeks we were finally ready to begin our journey back to the Philippines.

We flew economy on Jet Blue for a short flight to JFK in New York.

We left New York flying in our "economy space" seats on the A380. It was great to have more legroom for this eleven-hour flight to Abu Dhabi. We slept on and off during this flight.

Upon arrival we checked into the airport hotel, showered and then got several more hours of sleep. I awoke early and caught up on some of my administrative duties at my Facebook groups.

After checking out at the airport hotel, an airport porter accidentally caused a minor scrape on my elbow. It was treated and bandaged by paramedics in the boarding area. My wife, who had bid on an upgrade to business class, talked with the boarding agents. They informed her that her low bid had been accepted! I think because we were on the last flight for the day to Manila. We gladly paid the minimal extra charge.

We boarded our Etihad Dreamliner and, after being escorted to our seats, were offered complimentary champagne. I have read reviews saying that Etihad Airways business class is the best. Having never flown business class before all I can say is that it was a fine experience. We did not have time to order Vegan food before this last leg of our journey. No problem. The flight attendants rustled up some Vegan food for us. Vegan appetizers (an assortment including hummus, stuffed grape leaves and more), pasta with sauce, rolls with olive oil and balsamic vinegarette. Fine dining at 39,000 feet.

After eating we lowered our seats to bed mode, covered ourselves with the complimentary blankets, and enjoyed five hours of comfortable sleep. After an eight-hour flight we were awakened by the captain announcing, "We are approaching Manila." We deplaned and headed to the baggage claim area. When we got there our luggage was nowhere to be found. After spending an hour at the claims desk, we learned that the Jet Blue clerk in Tampa, where we boarded a flight to New York, had mislabeled our luggage tags. She marked Abu Dhabi as our final destination. So we were now in Manila, but our suitcases were still in Abu Dhabi! Well, the claims clerks in Manila did a very good job. The next day they called to tell us "Come pick up your baggage." It was about an hour and a half drive back to the airport, but we got all our suitcases! Happy ending to a long trip.
