DUBAI, NOV 2

Global demand for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 continues to build, with total ticket requests surpassing the 120 million mark (120,809,467 ticket applications have been received as on 1 November).

2.8 million unique fans from 193 countries have registered for the opportunity to purchase tickets for the 14th edition of ODI cricket’s showpiece event. With fewer than 20 days remaining until the ballot closes on 21 November, more than 32 million match registrations have been completed demonstrating the demand for tickets not being limited to high-value fixtures or matches of certain teams.
Fans from South Africa, the UK, India, the USA and Australia lead the charge in ballot registrations on Monday morning, with the African continent including fans from South Africa’s co-hosts Zimbabwe and Namibia, joining the wait with more than 14.9 million ticket applications (14,936,708).

The 41 fixtures being hosted across eight venues in South Africa have attracted more than 105 million applications while as matches involving South Africa (11 fixtures, including the pre-seeded Super 7 matches) have amassed nearly 26 million ticket requests.

In Zimbabwe, the accumulated ticket request tally has crossed the 13 million mark (13,350,190). The highest ticket requests for a group match in Zimbabwe currently tallies just over 3.3 million ticketing requests for the Zimbabwe vs India clash on 24 October at the new Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium at Victoria Falls.

More than two million tickets have been requested for the six fixtures to be held at Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek. Nearly 900,000 of these requests are for the England vs Bangladesh match on 8 October.

The October 10 clash between India and Pakistan in Johannesburg has drawn more than eight million ticket applications (8,397,294), with the Final on November 21 in the same city trailing close behind with nearly eight million (7,900,944).

ICC General Manager – Events and Cricket Operations, Gaurav Saxena, said: “The response to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 has been outstanding. This level of demand reflects the global appeal of the tournament and the significance of bringing the Men’s Cricket World Cup back to Africa for the first time in 24 years. The strong interest across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia proves the scale of the opportunity to deliver a world-class event that connects fans across the continent and around the world.

“With just 19 days remaining before the ballot closes on 21 November, we encourage fans who have not yet registered to do so and secure their opportunity to be part of this historic edition of the tournament.”

Why it matters

The World Cup returns to Africa for the first time in 24 years. Fifty-seven matches will be played across 12 venues in October and November 2027, with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia joining hands to host a world-class and historic tournament for the African continent, with a focus on making it as accessible as possible to all who want to be part of the spectacle.

Namibia will stage Men’s Cricket World Cup matches for the first time, with Zimbabwe showcasing its new stadium at Victoria Falls. The tournament is calling on all visitors to come for the cricket and stay for the culture, an invitation that spotlights the rich cultural basin that Southern Africa is.

How the ballot works:

Entry into the ticket ballot is free and does not require payment at the point of registration.
Fans can submit one ballot entry per person, per match, and may enter the ballot for multiple matches across the tournament.
The ballot is not first-come, first-served, meaning fans have the opportunity to enter at any point during the ballot window without their chances being determined by how early they register.
Where demand for a fixture exceeds the available ticket allocation, access to purchase tickets will be determined through a randomised ballot process. Successful applicants will be contacted by email with information on how to access the ticket purchasing process.
Successful and unsuccessful ballot applications will be communicated via the email address that customers share during ballot registration.

Manisha becomes India's first-ever women's World champion

After two failed attempts to get its first-ever world champion at 2026 World Championships in Astana, India finally got it's historic gold medal as Manisha of India won gold medal at the 59kg, according to United World Wrestling.

Manisha achieved the historic result in incredible manner, coming back from 6-0 deficit against Abigail NETTE (USA) in the final, and winning 8-6 for the gold medal.

"Can’t feel anything. I’ve been waiting for a long time for this moment," Manisha said. "From 2022 I’ve been writing that I would be world champion. This was my dream that I would be the first Indian woman to become a world champion. Today that dream has come true. I want to continue with this dream."

Earlier in the World Championships, NEELAM (IND) at 50kg and KAJAL (IND) at 76kg, tried to become world champions but both fell short in the finals. ANSHU (IND) was the first Indian to reach a world final in Women's Wrestling when she did that in 2021.

"When Kajal made the final, everyone was saying that she’s winning a gold. Easy gold," she said. "But I think maybe god wanted to make me the first champion. Maybe this is the reward of my tapasya. For me wrestling is like worship. The way I feel about my father. That’s how I feel about wrestling."

Meanwhile, Everest LEYDECKER (USA) provided the victory that eventually gave the United States the team title, scoring a 2-point defensive exposure in the second period of the 55kg final that clinched a 4-1 win over Nataliia KLIVCHUTSKA (UKR).

The U.S. finished with 137 points, two points ahead of Japan which had 135 points. China was third with 121 points. This is the U.S. first-ever team title in Women's Wrestling since 1999.

Wrestling in the 59kg final, Manisha got dumped for four points by Nette but India challenged that call only to lose and give another point to Nette who now led 5-0. A caution against Manisha extended Nette's lead to 6-0. But Manisha got a stepout before the break to get one point on board.

But Manisha then mounted a comeback first with a takedown against Nette which the United States challenged saying that the referee whistled to stop the bout. The challenge was lost, giving one more point to Manisha and position in par terre.

From 6-4, Manisha managed to make to turn Nette using a gut-wrench for two points and tried holding Nette for the fall but failed to do so.

"Bharandaaj [gut-wrench] is my favorite move," she said. "It’s been my favourite for some time now. When I got that move, I felt I was going to get to 10 points just like that or even pin her. But she got out of that position. At that time I thought, how did that happen? Then when the bout restarted I got her down."

Nette then went on trying to defend her 6-6 criteria lead but Manisha scored a pressure takedown and took a 8-6 lead that she defended to win a historic gold medal.

"I think that’s my strong point," she said. |If anyone comes to the red zone, I can finish that shot. No matter who it is. When I get them to that red zone then I always finish that shot."

Manisha is second world champion for India in wrestling after Sushil KUMAR (IND) who won the 66kg gold medal at the 2010 World Championships.

"I made my first senior team in 2022. I follow Sushil pehlwan. I follow Sadulaev and Yazdani. I wanted to experience what this belt was. I just wanted to win a belt," she said.

Another reason for former Asian champion Manisha to be emotional after the being the world champion was completing her late father's wish of winning the gold medal. She even carried a photo of her father to the final and celebrated later.

"I’ve always been my father's favourite," she said. "We are two sisters and a brother but I think my father loved me the most. The first time I went to a hostel, I would always think I heard his voice. Like he was calling me. I don’t think I’ve have that connection. I always hear his voice. I can’t explain it. It’s like he is inside me and talks to me."

Manisha now wants to repeat as the world champion next year in Las Vegas but in the Olympic weight category 57kg and wants more Indian wrestlers to win gold now that the barrier has been broken.

"Next year is very important," she said. "I will try my best to win the world belt in 57kg. I think next time Indian girls won’t be scared when they get to the final or come under pressure whether they win a medal or not. I think their mind will relax now. Hope has come in."

Leydecker Wins Gold on Debut

At 55kg, Leydecker, last year’s world U20 champion, gained an activity point the first period, then Klivchutska and her each received one to leave the U.S. wrestler up 2-1. As Klivchutska put the pressure on, Leydecker responded by gaining the match-clinching tilt.

In the bronze medal matches, both Ekaterina VERBINA (RUS) and Nagisa HARADA (JPN) won one-sided affairs that did not go the distance.

Verbina added to her silver medal from last year when she went on a second-period splurge to defeat Tuba DEMIR (TUR) 11-0 with 37 seconds to spare.

Nagisa built up an 8-0 lead in the first period against Anastasia BLAYVAS (GER) before whizzering her over to record a fall at 4:11.

At 59kg, European champion Mariia VYNNYK (UKR) picked up her second straight world medal with a dramatic 7-6 victory over Svetlana LIPATOVA (RUS) at 59kg.

Vynnyk, the silver medalist a year ago, was holding a 4-2 lead in the second period when European bronze medalist Lipatova reached back and flung Vynnyk to the mat for 4. Vynnyk reversed after hitting, cutting the gap to 6-5.

Vynnyk then secured a defensive exposure for 2, then held on for the victory.

Bolortuya KHURELKHUU (MGL) used an arm bar to turn over Altyn SHAGAYEVA (KAZ), building up an 8-0 lead before securing a fall just inside the 3-minute mark for her first senior world medal.

Forty-eight players earn full cards for 2026-27 season

Twenty-two-year-old Indian amateur Arin Ahuja won the DP World PGTI Qualifying School 2026-27 by a one-shot margin after returning a gritty even-par 72 in the fourth and final round of the Final Qualifying Stage played at the Kensville Golf & Country Club in Ahmedabad.

Noida-based Arin (70-73-70-72), appearing at the DP World PGTI Qualifying School for the first time, totaled three-under 285 for the week.

India’s Vedant Sirohi (71-71-73-71) and Bangladesh’s Md Siddikur Rahman (69-73-71-73) finished joint runners-up at a total of two-under 286.

The cut in the final round went at 15-over 203 with the top 48 players earning their full cards for the 2026-27 DP World PGTI season.

The top 48 players included four amateurs. There were also five foreigners (four Bangladeshis and one Sri Lankan) among the 48 players who earned their full cards.

Arin Ahuja, a winner of one title at the junior level and ranked India No. 2 on the amateur circuit in 2024, fought back brilliantly after early troubles in round four.

Arin, who was overnight tied second, one shot off the lead, struggled with his irons early on day four, missing a few greens and dropping three bogeys on the first five holes. Ahuja, son of an Army Officer, kept himself in the hunt, with some crucial par saves from 10 to 15 feet on the seventh and eighth as his putting began to click.

Arin then came up with an outstanding approach shot and a 12-feet conversion to pick up an eagle on the 14^th that got him back in the contest. With momentum on his side, Ahuja rolled in two more long birdie conversions on the 15^th and 17^th to take the lead. Despite Arin’s bogey on the 18^th, he had done enough to emerge champion by one shot.

Arin, excited at the prospect of playing his first season as a professional on the DP World PGTI, said, “It’s been a solid week for me. I thank my coach Rahul Bajaj for his guidance. I made a poor start today but I’m proud of the way I kept my cool and fought back towards the end. After the eagle on the 14^th, I knew I had a good chance to win. I then took it one shot at a time. My putting was the key to my success this week.

“My strength has always been hitting it straight and keeping it in play. I did that well this week too. I’ve had some consistent performances as an amateur over the past three years, which led to my decision to take a shot at the DP World PGTI Qualifying School. This win is a big morale-booster for me and I now plan to turn professional very soon.”

The 2026-27 DP World PGTI season will now begin with the IndianOil SERVO Masters scheduled to be staged from November 17 – 20, 2026, in Digboi, Assam.

Hindus seek pre-screening of “Ramayana” for Hindu scholars worldwide to ensure scriptural integrity

Hindus are calling for special pre-release screenings of upcoming film “Ramayana: Rise of a Legend” before a global panel of respected Hindu scholars, religious leaders and experts of Hindu scriptures; to ensure scriptural accuracy before its release on November five.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that this initiative sought to ensure that the film respectfully represented the sacred “Ramayana”, one of Hinduism’s most revered scriptures and a timeless source of spiritual wisdom, moral guidance, and cultural heritage for about 1.3 billion Hindus; and its portrayal on screen carried deep spiritual significance for devotees across the globe.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, points out that proposed screening would provide this Hindu panel with an opportunity to examine the film’s narrative, characterization, spiritual themes, and portrayal of revered figures, including Bhagwan Shri Ram. The objective is to assess whether the cinematic interpretation remains faithful to the scripture’s essential teachings, traditional values, and religious significance while acknowledging the creative considerations involved in adapting an ancient epic for modern audiences.

Rajan Zed emphasizes that the initiative is intended to promote constructive dialogue between filmmakers and the global Hindu community, rather than restrict artistic expression. We want to ensure that “Ramayana: Rise of a Legend” honors the spiritual depth, cultural richness, and enduring legacy of the “Ramayana” while fostering greater understanding of Hindu traditions among audiences worldwide.

Zed indicates that The Ramayana is not merely a fable; it is a deeply revered and sacred living scripture that guides the lives, values, and worship of about 1.3 billion Hindus. The goal of the initiative is to help ensure that characters, teachings, and sacred symbols are portrayed with accuracy and reverence. Any cinematic adaptation of such a sacred and honored text carries a significant responsibility to preserve its spiritual integrity, dignity, spirit, and theological authenticity.

Rajan Zed expressed hope that the producers will welcome this collaborative approach, noting that scholarly endorsement could strengthen the film’s credibility and deepen trust within the global Hindu community. We want to ensure that the production respects historical and theological sensitivities while accurately reflecting the timeless values of duty, righteousness (dharma), and devotion embedded within the holy text; he added.

Zed urged director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra, and global distribution partner Sony Pictures Entertainment to establish a transparent review process and engage in dialogue; fostering trust and mutual respect between the entertainment industry and the global Hindu community. Constructive engagement with experts would be beneficial both for filmmakers and audiences, Zed notes.

Filmmakers describe “Ramayana: Rise of a Legend” as: "Mankind's greatest story comes to life". Official synopsis states that— “Based on the celebrated ancient epic known to billions, Namit Malhotra's Ramayana: Rise of a Legend tells the story of Rama, a prince bound by sacrifice; Ravana, an immortal king driven by vengeance; and the prophecy that binds their fates together”. Saptak Talwar emerges DP World PGTI Order of Merit Champion for 2026

NEW DELHI, OCT 18

Spaniard Eugenio Chacarra did not let go of the grip he had on the Lotus Trophy at the DP World India Championship and secured his third victory of a remarkable 2026 season on the DP World Tour. It also carried him to the very top of the Race to Dubai Rankings delivered by DP World.

Chacarra finished a marathon day at the Delhi Golf Club at the US$ 4 million tournament (co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and DP World PGTI) playing 25 holes with a broken toe he had carried into the week. He played his seven holes remaining from the third round in five under with three birdies and a closing eagle. That put him five-shot ahead in the final round, which began soon after the third round had ended.

Chacarra’s rounds of 67-67-63-70 gave him a 21-under total, one short of Tommy Fleetwood’s aggregate in 2025. Overall, he had 24 birdies and one eagle against five bogeys.

Two shots behind Chacarra was New Zealand's Daniel Hillier (67), finishing second on 19-under. A brilliant charge on the back nine by Hillier gave Chacarra a scare, cutting what had once been a six-shot lead down to two late on to pile on the pressure - but Chacarra held on and won the crown.

Anirban Lahiri (70-73-69-68) overcame a disappointing 2025 result at this event to emerge as the best-placed Indian at tied 23rd on eight-under 280 with a bogey-free run on Sunday.

Anirban said, “I played reasonably well overall, although I hit more loose shots than I would have liked. Playing 20 holes bogey-free today, in six-under, makes me feel better.

“But it still wasn’t the performance I’d hoped for, and I know I can do much better.”

Saptak Talwar (71-73-72-71) totalled one-under 287 for shared 55th place and took his season’s earnings to Rs 1.02 crore. Talwar thus sealed the DP World PGTI Order of Merit title and will now head to the DP World Tour from the start of the new season in late November this year.

Talwar looked back on his year, saying, “It’s been a consistent year, and I’ve grown a lot as a golfer. Much of that has come from moving between the DP World PGTI and the HotelPlanner Tour.

“This is my fourth year on the DP World PGTI, and travelling across the country has taught me a lot—about myself and from other players. I’ve already started putting those lessons into practice and will continue doing so.

“There are plenty of positives to build on, along with areas I still need to tidy up.

“This is the culmination of a lot of good work throughout the year. I’m very happy my family could be here to share it, especially at a course that means a lot to me.”

Yuvraj Sandhu (75-68-72-68) was next at shared 34th on five-under 283, followed by Om Prakash Chouhan (68-72-71-73) at tied 42nd on four-under 284.

Like in Tallahassee, Ngetich was a class apart. As she strode over the finish line, she took one second off the world record for a women-only race of 1:05:16 set by her compatriot Peres Jepchirchir when winning the world half marathon title in Gdynia in 2020.

Ngetich was aggressive from the start. She went straight to the front and was 10 seconds ahead by the 5km mark, which she reached in 15:12. She extended that advantage to 26 seconds ahead of an eight-strong chase pack by 10km, with 30:39 on the clock.

The gap grew again, to 53 seconds by 15km, reached by Ngetich in 46:17. Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru remained a strong member of the chase group, running alongside Kenya’s Daisilah Jerono and USA’s Emma Grace Hurley as they completed 15km in 47:10.

Ngetich forged ahead, hitting the 20km mark in 1:01:56, 51 seconds ahead of her rivals, and she held on to make history at the finish line, raising her arms in celebration as she crossed it with 1:05:15 on the clock.

Loleo secured silver in 1:06:05 and Niyonkuru claimed bronze in a national record of 1:06:08, five seconds ahead of Jerono.

The Antigua & Barbuda Falcons were crowned Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) champions for the first time after defeating the Jamaica Kingsmen by eight wickets at the Kensington Oval.

An unbeaten 89-run partnership between Amir Jangoo and Hasan Nawaz completed the Falcons’ historic triumph after another sensational spell from Sufyan Moqim, who claimed 4 for 14 to set up the chase. Maaz Sadaqat’s second century of the season ultimately counted for little as the Kingsmen fell short despite posting 170 for 9.

Sent in to bat, the Kingsmen immediately signalled their intent in the Power Play, with Sadaqat launching Jayden Seales into the stands from the first ball. Seales, however, struck back at the end of the over when Kirk McKenzie was sharply caught by Rahkeem Cornwall in the slips.

Keacy Carty joined Sadaqat at the crease, with the pair having already played starring roles in the play-offs. They looked to make the most of the Power Play and appeared to be building another formidable partnership, but Carty soon punched one straight to Shadab Khan at cover, with the Falcons all-rounder taking a sharp catch.

Cornwall came close to adding another wicket when Saim Ayub was initially given out lbw, but a faint glove edge overturned the decision on review to give the Kingsmen opener a reprieve.

The Kingsmen ended the Power Play on 59 for 2, just one run short of the landmark ten runs an over.

Sadaqat continued his sensational play-off form, racing to his half-century from just 27 balls. But the Falcons had displayed impressive bowling depth throughout the tournament, and they unleashed their in-form spinner Moqim to turn the game on its head.

The left-arm spinner struck immediately, removing Ayub and Rovman Powell in his first over. Shadab then joined the party by dismissing Romaine Morris, before Moqim claimed his third wicket by removing Hassan Khan.

The Kingsmen suddenly found themselves in deep trouble, losing four wickets for just three runs in the space of 12 deliveries.

Moqim and Shadab were ripping through the middle order, just as they had done against the Guyana Amazon Warriors earlier in the play-offs.

But the Kingsmen refused to surrender, and with Sadaqat still at the crease, their innings remained alive.

The right-hander once again took centre stage, powering towards a second century of the season with a sensational display of 360-degree hitting. He reached the first century in a CPL final from just 49 balls, adding another 14 runs before falling on the penultimate delivery of the innings.

His magnificent knock propelled the Kingsmen to 170 for 9 from their 20 overs.

The Falcons’ reply got off to a flying start, with Rahkeem Cornwall smashing 20 runs from the first over before being bowled by the final delivery.

Cornwall’s explosive start allowed Evin Lewis and Amir Jangoo to balance aggression with caution during the Power Play. Lewis survived a second chance when Andre Russell overstepped, and he responded by shifting through the gears.

The final over of the Power Play produced 17 runs as the Falcons raced to 76 for 1 after six overs.

The Kingsmen soon found a breakthrough when Lewis chopped on to his stumps off Vitel Lawes, but the wicket only seemed to inspire Jangoo.

Joined by Hasan Nawaz, Jangoo built a composed and increasingly dominant partnership that kept the Falcons comfortably ahead of the required rate, which sat just above a run a ball.

Jangoo brought up his half-century with the partnership already past 50, leaving the Falcons firmly in control heading into the final five overs.

With the target within touching distance, Nawaz put the finishing touch on a commanding team performance, launching the winning runs over the boundary for six and sending his teammates sprinting onto the field in celebration.

The Falcons reached 173 for 2 with 20 balls to spare, completing a memorable eight-wicket victory and securing the first CPL title in the history of the Antigua & Barbuda franchise.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board has appointed Tavengwa Mukuhlani as its Deputy Chairperson until November 2027.

Mr. Mukuhlani, who is the Chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket and represents it on the ICC Board, succeeds Imran Khwaja following his departure from the Board.

Mr. Mukuhlani currently serves on the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee (F&CA) and the Nominations Committee, and chairs the HR and Remuneration Committee.

The appointment comes at a significant time for African cricket, with Zimbabwe preparing to co-host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 alongside South Africa and Namibia.

Jamaica Kingsmen overcame the Guyana Amazon Warriors to reach the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final in a thrilling match at the Kensington Oval. This victory for the Jamaican franchise gives them a chance to claim the CPL in the year they returned to the competition when they face the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons on Sunday.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors set a very challenging target of 207 thanks to Shimron Hetmyer’s second hundred of the season with Shai Hope and Quentin Sampson giving him excellent support throughout the innings.

At the halfway stage it seemed that runs on the board in a knockout game would be enough to see the Amazon Warriors through to their fourth consecutive CPL final, but a blistering start from Maaz Sadaqat and a classy half century from Keacy Carty set up the Kingsmen victory which was sealed by Hassan Khan hitting four runs to reach the victory target.

In the opening overs the Warriors batters struggled to get going once again as they reached 37/2 at the end of the Power Play. This was a similar position to where the Guyanese franchise had found themselves against the Falcons before they collapsed to 76 all out a day earlier.

Here things were very different with Hetmyer batting brilliant in an innings that had more sixes than fours and insane level of power hitting. He reached his hundred from the last ball of the innings when he slashed Andre Russell over third for four having faced just 45 balls.

In reply the Kingsmen were once again thankful for the Power Play efforts of Sadaqat who made 41 from just 17 balls. The fact that the score was 42/1 when Khary Pierre took a steepling catch to remove him shows just how dominate he was in the opening exchanges.

The quick rate at which Sadaqat scored allowed Carty and Kirk McKenzie time to get themselves set and get the rate needed under control. It looked as if Jamaica were cruising to the victory but there was a twist to come as lost the wickets of Carty, Saim Ayub, Russell to give them a few jitters in the closing moments.

With Rovman Powell there at the end they managed to stay calm and he has once again led a Jamaican team to the CPL just as he did in 2022.

Sunday’s final is a mouthwatering clash that sees two in form teams replay the very first game of this year’s CPL to decide who takes the 2026 honours.

Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final with a stunning nine wicket victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Kensington Oval.

The Falcons recorded the second fastest win in CPL history as Shadab Khan and Sufyan Moqim took four wickets each, including a hat-trick from Khan to bowl the Warriors out for 76. Rahkeem Cornwall’s 49 in 16 balls ensured there would be no Guyana miracle with the Falcons producing the performance of the tournament so far.

The Falcons backed their bowlers and put the Warriors into bat who made a steady start inside the PowerPlay. It looked a sensible strategy as the wicket has seemingly got easier to bat on as the game has gone on in recent weeks, particularly in Barbados. It has often been about how many wickets you can keep in hand rather than how many runs you score, and the Warriors appeared to have got that memo, finishing the PowerPlay 34 for 1.

However, the Falcons’ quality bowling attack has been largely what has got them to this point and that came to the fore quickly after the PowerPlay. First it was Sufyan Moqim, drawing mistakes from Glenn Phillips and Mohammad Haris. Phillips didn’t get enough on it and was caught at deep mid-wicket. Haris walked straight away after feathering behind to Amir Jangoo.

Moqim handed the reins to his partner in crime, Shadab Khan who produced a stunning hat-trick of googlies in his second over to completely destroy the Warriors middle order. First it was Shimron Hetmyer who clothed one to long on. Next, Mehidy Hasan Miraz who was trapped LBW in front by another dazzling googly. Upon review, the umpire’s decision was upheld. He rounded it off with the best ball of the bunch, a perfectly flighted googly that crashed through the gate of Quentin Sampson and sparked joyous celebrations amongst the Falcons fielders. The Warriors were left reeling at 45 for 6.

The next over, it was back to Moqim who picked up two more, as Khary Pierre and Shai Hope were bowled and LBW respectively. Two balls later Shadab picked up his fourth and the two were trading wickets as Imran Tahir went for 1. There was a mini revival by Romario Shepherd, who found two boundaries before Shamar Springer finished the Warriors off and left them all out for 76.

Imran Tahir’s method of fighting fire with fire was crushed early on as Rahkeem Cornwall came out in no mood to wait around. The Warriors’ captain took the ball himself and was carted around the ground by Cornwall’s power hitting. Cornwall took Tahir, Miraz and Khary Pierre to task with some exquisite shots in the restricted period and ensured there would be no doubt as to who would reach the final on the night. He raced towards his half century, nearly levelling Andre Russell’s record for the fastest 50 after just 14 balls. He was frustratingly left stranded on 49 as he was caught by Hetmyer off the bowling of Tahir, but he had left Evin Lewis and Amir Jangoo just 27 more to get.

Lewis, having surrendered the strike to Cornwall earlier on, picked up the mantle and began to punish the bowling change to Shamar Joseph. He took Joseph for 21 in six deliveries, whilst suffering with cramp. Jangoo only had time to face four deliveries, ensuring he left with a boundary to his name, before Lewis fittingly hit the winning runs with just 32 balls bowled.

The Falcons advance to their first CPL final on Sunday in frightening form. The Warriors will need to pick themselves up off the canvas and go again, against the Kingsmen in the final eliminator tomorrow night. The winner will face the Falcons for the CPL crown.

From September 4 to 13 fans voted to pick the moments that really captured the magic of hockey in this award presented by FIH Global Supplier Polytan. The shortlist for the Poligras Magic Skill Award featured six wonderful flashes of brilliance—3 women’s and 3 men’s—that graced the turf through Hockey’s premier global showdown.

Eventually, the Poligras Magic Skill Award for the women's competition went to Bichu Devi Karibam for her stunning reflex save in the final minute of the game against England that ensured their qualification from the pool stage on the way towards a 5th-place finish – Indian women team's best finish in 52 years. The Indian goalkeeper received 52% of all the votes, well clear of the other two nominees.

The award for the men's competition went to Abdul Rehman for his mindblowing 3D skills that saw him skip past 4 defenders, before adding a smart finish to score for Pakistan against Wales. Rehman's goal recieved 44% of the votes narrowly edging ahead of Kenton Melville's audacious goal, which received 39% of all votes.

Khalin Joshi wins SECL presents Nava Raipur Open 2026

NAYA RAIPUR, SEPT 18

Khalin Joshi produced a bogey-free three-under 31 to win the inaugural INR 1 crore SECL presents Nava Raipur Open 2026 by one stroke at the Fairway Golf & Lake Resort in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

The 34-year-old Bengaluru golfer (29-30-33-31), who began the final round with a one-shot advantage, made three consecutive birdies from the third through the fifth holes of his nine-hole round to finish at 13-under 123.

The victory was Joshi’s third of the season following his triumphs at the Andhra Open in April and the J&K Open in August, and his ninth overall on the DP World PGTI.

Joshi, who claimed his maiden Asian Tour title at the Panasonic Open India in 2018, collected INR 15 lakh. He climbed from 12th to seventh in the Race to DP World India Championship, taking his season earnings to INR 52,34,225.

Persistent rain left the course unsuitable for full 18-hole rounds, prompting the Tournament Committee to reduce each of the four rounds to nine holes over the back nine.

The final round was also suspended for several hours, leaving Joshi uncertain whether play would resume.

“After the delay, the course did not appear playable and we heard that the final round might be abandoned,” Joshi said. “I still had to regain my focus and prepare mentally in case play resumed. I stayed calm and composed, and I’m delighted with how I handled the situation.”

Mhow’s Om Prakash Chouhan (34-29-32-29), the 2023 DP World PGTI Order of Merit champion, produced the joint-lowest score of the day. His five-under 29 featured an eagle on the par-five fourth and three birdies as he finished joint runner-up at 12-under 124.

Chouhan was joined in second place by Panchkula’s Raunil Kukar (31-30-33-30), who briefly held the lead before play was halted, and Ahmedabad’s Anshul Patel (32-31-31-30).

The three joint runners-up earned INR 6,99,867 each. Chouhan strengthened his position at eighth in the Race to DP World India Championship with season earnings of INR 51,88,201.

Kukar climbed from 102nd to 54th with earnings of INR 8,93,660, while Patel rose from 84th to 47th with INR 10,24,442. By moving inside the top 60, both secured their playing status and avoided a return to Qualifying School next month.

Kolkata’s Divyanshu Bajaj (33-32-30-30), Delhi’s Pritish Singh Karayat (34-31-29-31) and Chandigarh’s Angad Cheema (34-29-30-32) shared fifth place at 11-under 125.

Reflecting on his three victories this season, Joshi credited greater confidence and a present-focused approach.

“My mindset has not changed dramatically over my 14 seasons as a professional, but I have become more confident,” he said. “My mind used to race, particularly in the final group. I now understand the importance of staying in the present, remaining calm and enjoying the moment.”

Joshi will next compete at the Karnataka Golf Association, his home course since childhood.

“I haven’t been home for seven weeks, so I’m looking forward to returning to Bengaluru,” he said. “I’ve been associated with KGA since I was four and know the course extremely well. My girlfriend will also be caddying for me, so it should be a special week.”

The victory also strengthened Joshi’s prospects ahead of the DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club.

“I love that course because I recorded my first international victory there in 2018,” Joshi said. “It is a major tournament for all the Indian players. Hopefully, I can put myself in contention.”

First Inspection of KCSS by SSK Team

Alpes 2030 completes sports venue masterplan as IOC Coordination Commission meeting ends

The final pieces of the sports venue masterplan for the Alpes 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games fell into place this week in Lyon, as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission wrapped up its second annual meeting. The Commission today confirmed the allocation of the ice sports and disciplines to venues in Lyon, and of Alpine skiing events to Courchevel and Val d’Isère, according to IOC communication.

These were the last elements left open, pending further engagement with International Federations and local authorities, after the IOC EB approved, in June, the relocation of the ice cluster to Lyon, along with Courchevel and Val d'Isère as the two Alpine skiing venues.

Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant, Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission, said: "Through this week's site visits, discussions, presentations and decisions, we have seen the Organising Committee make real progress across every part of the project, supported by its delivery partners, the IOC, the International Paralympic Committee and the wider Olympic and Paralympic Movements. These Games now have a clear vision, a striking visual identity, a compelling sports programme, an optimised venue plan and solid economic foundations. The teams are growing and gaining strength, and they are well placed to move from strategy to detailed operational planning and engagement."

Vincent Roberti, Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of Alpes 2030, added: “This second annual visit by the IOC teams provided an opportunity to observe the tangible progress of the Alpes 2030 project and to reinforce the confidence placed in the Organising Committee to deliver spectacular Games that live up to strong sustainability ambitions. The delegation was able to assess the quality of the work carried out by the Committee in recent months and fully appreciate the potential of its five outstanding clusters: Lyon, Haute-Savoie, Savoie, the Briançonnais region and Thialf in the Netherlands, with particular attention given to the ice venues and infrastructure.”

Sports venues

Lyon will host the Games' ice sports across three confirmed sites, all of them visited by the Coordination Commission members this week before the allocation was finalised. Ice hockey will be played at the arena in Décines-Charpieu that will also stage the 2028 Ice Hockey World Championships, and at the historic Hall Tony Garnier. The Eurexpo convention centre and its exhibition halls will host curling, figure skating and short track speed skating, together with the Main Media Centre.

A housing development project already underway in Oullins-Pierre-Bénite was confirmed as the Olympic Village for the Lyon cluster, chosen among other reasons for its potential to leave a lasting legacy of urban renewal in the metropolitan area.

In the mountains of the Savoie cluster, Courchevel will host the Alpine skiing speed events – the downhill and super-G – while Val d'Isère stages the technical events, the giant slalom and slalom. The women’s and men’s team combined events will take place in Courchevel.

Progress

Beyond the venue masterplan, the Organising Committee pointed this week to a series of milestones reached since the Commission last met in December last year. These include the definition of the Games vision, the launch of the Games emblem and confirmation of the sports and event programme , which will make Alpes 2030 the first fully gender-equal Olympic Winter Games. The organisers also outlined a procurement strategy designed to open opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses, and the arrival of the first domestic sponsor.

Next steps

With the venue masterplan settled, Alpes 2030 will roll out a number of initiatives between now and early 2027. The first is Rencontres Alpes 2030, a series of meetings across the host territories to gather the views of local communities and stakeholders and ensure that the Games reflect regional priorities. The sustainability and engagement plans, including the launch of Terre de Jeux 2030, based on Paris 2024’s initiative of the same name, along with the concept for celebration sites, are also due in the months ahead.

With the sports and events programme confirmed, the Organising Committee can now build the competition schedule and set the principles for ticketing. New sponsors are also expected to join the project in the coming period. Drawing on the acclaimed handover ceremonies at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the team will also begin planning its own Opening and Closing Ceremonies, including the choice of venues to host them.

The Alpes 2030 Olympic Winter Games will take place from February 1 to 17 , followed by the Paralympic Winter Games from March 1 to 10.

Khalin Joshi posted a bogey-free four-under 30 to extend his lead to two shots after the second round of the inaugural INR 1 crore Nava Raipur Open being played at the Fairway Golf & Lake Resort in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

The 34-year-old Bengaluru golfer (29-30), who began the day with a one-shot advantage, made four birdies to move to nine-under 59 at the halfway stage.

Joshi, a two-time winner on the DP World PGTI this season and currently 12th in the Race to the DP World India Championship, has not dropped a shot over the opening 18 holes.

Heavy rain left the course unsuitable for full 18-hole rounds, prompting the Tournament Committee to stage each of the four rounds over the back nine.

Kolkata’s 20-year-old Aryav Shah (30-31) made four birdies and one bogey in a three-under 31 to share second place at seven-under 61 with Nepal’s Subash Tamang (32-29), Bengaluru’s Akshay Neranjen (30-31) and Panchkula’s Raunil Kukar (31-30).

Tamang, 24, produced the joint lowest score of the second round, making five birdies in a bogey-free 29 to climb into contention.

Joshi began his round with a birdie after striking a hybrid from the tee and following it with a precise approach.

“It was another solid day,” Joshi said. “I felt a little more tentative and less comfortable than yesterday, but continued to hit quality shots throughout the round. I’m pleased with the way I played.”

The two consecutive bogey-free rounds have reflected the quality of Joshi’s ball-striking.

“My game has been solid from tee to green,” he said. “I’ve also been hitting my approaches close to the flags, so I haven’t faced too many long birdie putts.”

Joshi has made the most of the scoring opportunities on the 10th, 12th and 13th during both rounds.

“The 12th is drivable, while the 13th is a short par five where a good tee shot gives you an excellent birdie opportunity,” he said. “I’ve hit good tee shots on both holes and taken advantage. Hopefully, I can continue doing that over the final two rounds.”

Seven players shared sixth place at six-under 62: Chandigarh’s Umed Kumar (33-29), Kolkata’s Sunit Chowrasia (33-29), Gurugram’s Veer Ahlawat (32-30), Sri Lanka’s Chalitha Pushpika (30-32), Chandigarh’s Vasu Sehgal (31-31), Noida’s Bipin Mukhiya (30-32), Faridabad’s Karan Pratap Singh (32-30).

Chowrasia earned promotion to the DP World PGTI after winning three consecutive NexGen events and finishing atop the rankings, while Ahlawat was the 2024 DP World PGTI Rankings champion.

The cut fell at three-under 65, with 56 players from the field of 132 advancing to the final two rounds.

New champions will be crowned in the Limacol WCPL after the Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated the Barbados Tridents by seven wickets in Wednesday’s Playoff match at the Kensington Oval.

Overnight rain and early-morning showers forced a delayed start, with the match reduced to eight overs per side under cloudy conditions.

Chasing 70 for a place in Thursday’s final against the Trinbago Knight Riders, Tazmin Brits and Shemaine Campbelle combined for a match-winning 51-run partnership from 27 balls for the second wicket, powering the Warriors past the defending champions.

Opener Eboni Brathwaite top-edged Shawnisha Hector in the opening over of the chase, bringing the in-form Campbelle to the crease. She immediately took on the Tridents bowling attack, smashing 22 from just 12 deliveries.

When left-arm spinner Qiana Joseph had Campbelle caught behind for 22, with the Warriors 54/2 at the end of the fifth over, the writing was on the wall.

With just one run required from the final over, Suzie Bates yorked Nadine de Klerk with the first delivery. Captain Chloe Tryon ensured there would be no late drama, smashing the next ball over midwicket to seal victory and send the Warriors into Thursday’s final against the Knight Riders.

Player of the Match Brits remained unbeaten on 35 from 23 balls as the Warriors reached their target with four deliveries to spare.

Earlier, Tryon won the toss and opted to bowl, and the defending champions struggled to find momentum from the outset.

Qiana Joseph found it difficult to get going against the pace of Shabnim Ismail and Shamilia Connell before being tactically retired after scoring three runs from 12 balls.

Hayley Matthews immediately injected some life into the innings, cutting Connell for four off the first ball she faced. However, her attempt to push the scoring rate further ended when she was run out in the sixth over after looking for a second run that was not there.

Maddy Green provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 30 from 16 balls, carrying the Tridents to 69/4 from their eight overs.

Erin Burns was economical for the Warriors, claiming 1/11 from her two overs as Guyana secured a place in the final and moved one step closer to claiming their first WCPL title.

The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) confirmed its inaugural Hall of Fame class on September 15, inducting Dwayne Bravo and Ian Bishop at a gala dinner held at the Hilton Barbados. Bravo received the newly created Sir Garry Sobers Award as the tournament's first playing inductee, presented by Daniel Sobers on behalf of the Sobers family.

The Sir Garry Sobers Award, the centrepiece honour of the CPL Hall of Fame, is named for the West Indies icon widely regarded as the finest all-rounder the game has produced, with the Sobers family granting CPL permission to attach his name to the trophy. Bravo, one of the most decorated performers in CPL history, retires from playing with 129 wickets to his name and five titles as a player with Trinbago Knight Riders, adding a sixth as head coach in 2025.

Bishop was inducted in the non-playing category, recognising a broadcasting career that has been part of the CPL story since the tournament’s launch in 2013. His commentary has helped bring the "Biggest Party in Sport" to fans across the Caribbean and around the world, and Tuesday’s honour reflected his standing as one of the game’s most respected voices.

The Barbados Tridents pulled off a remarkable comeback win to keep themselves in the hunt for a fourth consecutive Limacol WCPL title as they squeezed out the Jamaica Empress with brilliant death bowling.

The Tridents set a competitive score thanks to a partnership of 78 between Suzie Bates and Maddy Green to give the Tridents a fighting chance with the ball after a sluggish start to their innings.

In reply the class of Meg Lanning looked to have made the difference as she made a brilliant 57 as her and Amy Hunter looked to be taking the game away from the reigning champions.

However, once Lanning and Hunter failed the Empress middle order struggled in the face of a Tridents attack who kept things very tight to win by three runs in a thrilling finish.

Having won the toss the Tridents elected to bat and struggled in the face of very good new ball bowling from Rosemary Mair and Chinelle Henry, but it was Nonkululeko Mlaba who made the first breakthrough when she had Qiana Joseph caught and bowled.

Hayley Matthews looked to play the anchor role but she found it hard to get the ball away as she made 21 from 23. When she departed the Tridents were 56/4 inside the 10th over and with a lot of work left to do.

It was from there that the New Zealand pair of Bates and Green brought the Tridents back into the game with a partnership that was full of class and innovation as both players looked to sweep and reverse sweep the Empress bowlers.

Stafanie Taylor claimed three wickets in the final over to finish with figures of 4/29 as the Tridents didn’t quite make the most of the platform in the death overs that Bates and Green had given them.

When the Empress went out to bat it became the Lanning and Hunter show as the pair put on the highest opening stand in WCPL history. Such was the ease with which the pair wait about the chase it was almost a surprise when the first wicket tell, Hunter well caught by Bates off the bowling of Fletcher.

It was when the opening stand was broken that things changed. It appeared that the Empress were cruising to victory but Bates and Afy Fletcher combined to make scoring very hard in the final overs.

And it is no surprise that FIH’s flagship event had a major influence on the final shortlist. Fifteen of the 18 nominees helped their teams reach the top-four finish at the FIH Hockey World Cup, underlining the extraordinary level of performance represented among this year’s nominees.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and DP World PGTI President Padma Bhushan Kapil Dev jointly inaugurated the Nava Raipur Open 2026 at the Fairway Golf & Lake Resort on Tuesday. Hon’ble Chief Minister said hosting more professional golf tournaments would attract visitors, encourage youth participation and generate opportunities for tourism, hospitality and local businesses in Nava Raipur.

The Chief Minister and the DP World PGTI President formally opened the tournament with a ceremonial tee-off and unveiled the trophy in the presence of DP World PGTI Chief Executive Officer Shri Amandeep Johl. The dignitaries also interacted with the participating golfers before addressing the media.

The Nava Raipur Open is being supported by Title Partner Nava Raipur, Presenting Partner SECL and Associate Partners Chhattisgarh Tourism and Jindal Steel. The tournament is also supported by DP World PGTI’s Umbrella Partner DP World as well as Tour Partners Axis Bank, Amul, HCL, Amrutanjan Enerlyte, Air India Maharaja Club, Kalyani, Golf Plus Monthly and Golf Design India.

The INR 1 Crore Championship brings together 132 professionals, including 18 overseas golfers, and will be played from 15 to 18 September. It marks the DP World PGTI's return to Nava Raipur for a second event in 2026, following the positive response to the inaugural SECL Chhattisgarh Open, when players appreciated the course lay out and course conditions.

The venue now has an opportunity to convert a successful debut into continuity on India's professional golf calendar.

The field will feature several of India's leading professionals, including Veer Ahlawat, Manu Gandas, Akshay Sharma, Honey Baisoya, Khalin Joshi, Rashid Khan, Manu Gandas and Mhow's Om Prakash Chouhan. Among them, Ahlawat is set to represent India at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, alongside Yuvraj Sandhu and Saptak Talwar.

The leading foreign players participating in the tournament include Sri Lankans N Thangaraja and Mithun Perera, Czech Republic’s Stepan Danek, Thailand’s Tanapat Pichaikool, Bangladeshis Jamal Hossain and Badal Hossain, Nepal’s Subash Tamang, Uganda’s Joshua Seale, Americans Koichiro Sato and Dominic Piccirillo, Japan’s Taiga Tanaka, Ireland’s Declan Kenny and Canada’s Sukhraj Singh Gill.

The Barbados Tridents, led by the batting of Gudakesh Motie, smashed 17 from the final over in their match against the Jamaica Kingsmen in the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League to secure a dramatic win and a place in the knockout stages.

Motie – coming in at number 9 – slashed Odeon Smith for four over point and smashed a straight six in the first two legal balls, accompanied by two wides, then managed to take a quick single on the final delivery of the over to get the Tridents over the line from the most unlikely of positions.

The bowler come batting hero earlier took 2/7 from three overs to halt momentum on the Kingsmen innings to restrict the already qualified side to 150. Shadrack Descarte’s 56 from 42 balls set up the chase towards the back end of the Tridents’ innings before Motie’s final over heroics.

The Kingsmen were allowed to get off to a flying start, scoring 50/1 in the PowerPlay, and captain Chris Green bowled a full allocation inside the first 10 overs, a chance for a big total was on for the Jamaican side.

Maaz Sadaqat set the platform with 47 at the top of the order before Motie removed him to leave the Kingsmen at 86/3. The experienced middle-order which have proved valuable for the Kingsmen in the competition to date couldn’t find anything more than brief cameos with Andre Russell, Hassan Khan and Keacy Carty all providing a six and a four but then soon departing in a Tridents fightback.

It was the reverse story for Tridents on home turf however. Three wickets in the PowerPlay set them on the backfoot and momentum could never be offered.

With up to two-a-ball needed for the majority of the latter half of the innings, Descarte timed his only two sixes for a crucial 15th over, striking 16 to keep the fight alive in a memorable maiden T20 half-century.

In the final over it was Motie who took his team to victory and in doing so secured a place for them in the latter stages of the tournament. Although they were defeated in this match, the Kingsmen also make the Playoffs as the fourth place team thanks to having a superior Net Run Rate to the Saint Lucia Kings.
