Yoga is a life styles, the practice of which enhances the ability of physical health and makes one free from all diseases.

This was stated by Deputy Commissioner and President of District Olympic Association, Yamunanagar, Mr Ashok Sangwan while inaugurating the three-day State Inter Centre Yoga Competition -2012 at Yamunangar today. As many as 500 boys and girls from all over the state are participating in this competition.

He said that yoga not only enhanced physical health but it was also beneficial for mental and emotional health. It was necessary for every individual to adopt yoga in their lives right from childhood. The State Government was also making special efforts in this direction and he urged the Gram Panchayts to contribute in the promotion of Yoga. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Mr T. C. Gupta said that to promote the practice of Yoga among people as many as 1190 Yoga instructors had been appointed at the district and block level.

A scintillating knock of 71 off 41 balls by the skipper of KXIP Green Siddharth Chitnis enabled his team to defeat KXIP Red by six wickets and lift the KXIP Cup 2012 in the final played at PCA Stadium, Mohali here today.

KXIP Green won the toss and put KXIP Red into bat. Seasoned complainer Chetan Sharma & Gurkeerat Mann gave there team a sound start as both added 32 runs in just 4 overs before Gurkeerat Mann (20) was caught by Ishan Malhotra off the bowling of Ajay Dalal. Chetan Sharma then joined by Abhimanyu Rana. Both played sensibly and rotated the strike very well and stitched a partnership of 93 runs off 60 balls. Rana scored 41 runs off 32 balls. Chetan Sharma (52) completed his 3^rd fifty of the tournament with a classic off drive to fence. Soon after completing his fifty he was caught in deep by Malhotra off Wilkin Mota. R. Satish captain of Red team scored a brisk 31 runs off 21 balls enabling his team to pile up a handsome total of 163 runs in allotted 20 overs. Wilikn Mota was pick of the bowlers for Green team as he claimed 3 wickets for 26 runs.

Chasing to a good total KXIP Green lost there centurion of last league match Ishan Malhotra (11) cheaply as he was caught & bowled by Jatinder Mehta in 3^rd over. Red team put some more pressure on Green team by taking 2 more quick wickets. Siddharth Chitnis and Karan Goel then steadied the ship with a match winning partnership of 105 runs. Chitnis was more fluent with his strokes as he scored 71 runs off 41 balls. His innings was studded with three huge sixes and four boundaries. Karan Goel remained unbeaten at his individual score of 43 runs off 39 balls with the help of 4 hits to fence as they achieved the target at the loss of 4 wickets with 13 balls to spare.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has accepted Sukhwinder Singh’s resignation from the post of Technical Director of AIFF’s Developmental Team Pailan Arrows. Sukhwinder submitted his resignation citing personal reasons.

Chief coach Sujit Chakraborty and goalkeeping coach Tanumoy Basu will be in charge of Pailan Arrows in Sukhwinder’s absence.

Mumbai FC registered their first victory in seven matches, when they seriously hurt Churchill Brothers’ title hopes with an inspiring 2-1 win in the 19^th round I League match, at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Monday.

This was Mumbai’s first win in 2012, that will also help them stay away from drop zone for some more time as the Essel Group-promoted outfit went six points clear of Chirag United Kerala.

Mumbai now have 17 points from 19 matches, while Chirag is on 11 from 18 with their one game against Pailan Arrows to be played on a later date.

Churchill remain on 33 points, but their bargaining power of having played one game less than other top teams fizzled out with Monday’s loss.

Both Churchill and Mumbai began at brisk pace. Churchill deservedly took the lead when Henry Antchouet, who played from midfield to upfront moved from the left before sending a cross into the box. Beto was lurking around there, but realizing that he was heavily marked the Brazilian cleared the ball for ND Opara, who put Churchill 1-0 ahead in the 20^th minute.

Unlike in past few matches, Mumbai FC kept their morale high with relentless runs into Churchill forte—once PC Lalwmpuia missed a close chance with just the Chruchill ‘keeper Arindam Bhattacharya to beat.

The equalizer came as a blinder that Churchill never expected from Mumbai FC. That was something made the difference as a tad complacent Goan outfit let go golden chance of bridging the point gap with leaders Dempo SC.

Salgaocar Sports Club overcame stiff second half resistance from Prayag United SC, to score a solitary goal victory in the 19^th round I League match, at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on Monday.

Edeh Chidi headed the only goal of the match in the 21st minute.

The win helped Salgaocar maintain their 10-match unbeaten streak as the defending champions have now climbed to the fifth point behind Churchill Brothers.

Prayag United, with 32 points, had a chance to occupy the second slot but the visitors were themselves to blame for some poor finishing, notably in the second session.

Salgaocar were not at their fluent best, but with Chidi scoring the only goal of the match, they didn’t have to do much. Ryuji Sueoka was in fine form but the Japanese striker could not come up with the killer touch that would have translated some good moves into goals.

Salgaocar surged ahead in the 19th minute when Chidi did well to head Randeep singh’s freekick into the top corner of the nets. The Nigerian midfielder came up with another snap header towards the closing stages of the first session but Prayag goalkeeper Abhijit Mondal proved equal to the challenge.

Prayag were a transformed side in the second session but the visitors were pegged back since Yusif Yakubu was a pale shadow of his former self and Brazilian striker Josimar Martins was unable to keep his attempts on target.

The best chance fell at the feet of James Singh. The midfielder was nicely fed on the platter by Yakubu but James could not beat the onrushing goalkeeper Karanjit Singh.

At the other end, Mondal was kept busy by Chidi. The goalkeeper had to make acrobatic saves to deny Ryuji Sueoka and Chidi.

Man of the Match was awarded to Salgaocar’s Karanjit Singh.

A whirlwind knock of 173 (68 balls, 14x4, 14x6) by Ishan Malhotra steered his KXIP Green into the finals as they thrashed KXIP Blue by 108 runs in the last league match of the KXIP Cup 2012 played at Sector 16, Cricket Stadium here today.

In the first match played here today belligerent knocks by Ravi Inder Singh (46), Yashpal Singh (32) and Dhruv Mahajan (31) and then hostile bowling spell by Akashy Chauhan (4 for 27) enabled KXIP Silver to beat KXIP Red by 20 runs. Put into bat by KXIP Red team Silver team piled a handsome total of 154 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Off spinner Gurvinder Singh was pick of the bowlers for Red team as he captured 4 wickets at the cost of 32 runs. He was ably supported by left arm spinner Ajay Bhardwaj who took 2 wickets for 28 runs.

KXIP Red team lost 2 quick wickets in first over with scoreboard reading 0 for 2 after 1^st over. Akshay Chauhan was instrument in sending back both top order batsman back to pavilion.

Skipper Chetan Sharma (50) & Preet Kamal (39) repaired the innings with a partnership of 64 runs for the 3^rd wicket partnership. But it was not enough to achieve the target as after the departure of Preet Kamal and Chetan Sharma wickets no one showed resistance and wickets were falling in regular interval and at last they fell short by 20 runs.

He achieved the milestone of scoring highest runs in T20.

He break the record of 158 runs scored by Brendon McCullum in the inaugural match of IPL-1 on April 18, 2008 while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Bangalore. He punished every bowler to all parts of park.

Prashant Chopra right arm leg spinner succeeded to see his back as he took a very good back running catch off his own bowling in 20^th overs. Chasing to a daunting task KXIP Blue team started off well through Rangarajan (19) & Prashant Chopra (90) but it was huge task to achieve the target. Chopra showed good class and played beautiful strokes all over the ground but trying to accelerate the innings missed his century. His innings of 90 runs came off 60 balls which was studded with 12 sweetly timed hits to boundary and one over it. At last KXIP Blue team could manage to score only 149 runs for the loss of 5 wickets and lost the match by 108 runs.

Shillong Lajong defeat Arrow’s

Shillong Lajong scored a comprehensive 2-0 win over Pailan Arrows in the 19^th round I League encounter played at the Yuba Bharati Krinangan, Kolkata, on Sunday.

With this win Lajong move to 24 points from 19 matches and move closer to safety while Pailan Arrows remained 8 points from 17 matches.

In the 6th minute of play John Menyongar moved with the ball towards the left and did well to draw a couple of defenders and then passed to a free Matthew Mayora, who just had to tap in for his first goal for Lajong.

In the 12th mintue Pritam Kotal of Arrows clearly caught the leg of Matthew Mayora in the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. The creater of the first goal John Menyongar stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to put Shillong Lajong 2-0 up.

From then on Shillong Lajong kept pilling on the pressure but could not increase their lead. Bijendra Rai for Pailan Arrows was the only one who looked dangerous but the Lajong defenders were very quick to close him down.

Sushil Kumar Singh on the other hand looked dangerous for Shillong Lajong making creative runs from his central midfield position.

CS Sabeeth the Pailan Arrows striker came on for the 2nd half as Pailan tried to make a comeback into the match. However the 2nd half was never really dominated by anyone as both teams played some scruffy football and resorted to long clearances later in the half as Shillong Lajong held out for a 2-0 win.

John Menyongar played a creative and delightful match which rightly earned him the Man of the Match.

Sporting Clube thrash Chirag Kerala

Sporting Clube de Goa was the latest team to inflict pain on Chirag United Kerala as they ran out deserved 3-0 winners in the 19^th round clash between the two, at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kochi, on Sunday.

Dawson Fernandez struck twice in either halves while Sudanese striker James Moga found the other goal for the visitors.

The Goans were clearly the better team on the field, with Chirag's weaknesses clearly evident in their play. They were sloppy in the defense and lacked the edge to break the defensive wall set up by Sporting.

So, there wasn't any surprise when the home side went 1-0 down in the 27th minute of the game. Dawson Fernandez was there to take advantage of a defensive mix-up in the Chirag area and he tucked it in to give his side the opener of the evening.

Sporting doubled their lead in the additional minutes of the first half through James Moga and took the game away from the home side's reach.

In the second half, the home side came up with some opportunities, but Sporting's keeper Ashok Singh was a real wall infront of the goal. He denied Chirag twice in the 52nd minute as he first blocked Sukhwinder Singh's long effort and then again denied David Sunday on the rebound.

The rout was completed when substitute Jae Park played Dawson Fernandez through on goal and the striker cleverly lifted the ball over the advancing keeper Rehenesh TP into the goal to find his second of the match. That was the last action of the match as referee blew the final whistle and ended the misery of Chirag United.

The win takes Sporting to 30 points from 19 while eleven points.

Air India beat HAL 2-1

Air India defeated Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bangalore, 2-1 to consolidate its position in the standings after both the teams put up a great show in the 19^thround I-League encounter at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Sunday.

In a fast-paced match, Air India went up 2-0 before the halftime and defended their lead for most part, before Jagaba Hamza goal four minutes from close spoiled their clean slate.

Nonetheless, three points from this round raised their point tally to 27, while HAL is at the bottom on the table with six points.

Soon after the start, both Air India and HAL started gamely with frontline immediately taking chances. In the 26th minute, Manjit set up a move from the left and sent a cross to Bijoy Basfore, who missed a sitter from the box. A free-kick earned in the 37th minute worked for Air India as HAL goalkeeper P Pramod only managed to punch it back into play.

The ball went wide on the right wing where Basfore collected it and sent it back high into the box. Henry leapt to head and connected the ball, which sailed into the net.

Air India’s second goal came out of the blue, when Sandeep Sangha finally managed to find the net on a curling shot, about 40 yards from the post.

Sangha actually had sent the ball for Henry to head and Pramod was eyeing the Air India striker. Instead, the ball angled and dropped into the netting from the top of the post leaving HAL goalkeeper flummoxed.

On resumption, there was no let up from each side as the pace of the match continued with Meiti sending neat defence splitting passes. Once he almost scored, but Air India defender Lamine Tamba made a goal-line save with the ball in the air leaving a room for HAL to express its displeasure.

With just four minutes left for regulation time to end, Meiti moved from the left and sent the ball on the right, where Hamza made a frantic turn as the ball landed behind him and pushed it into the net.

Jagaba Hamza of HAL was adjudged man of the match.

Pune FC stop Dempo title surge

Dempo Sports Club lost a potentially title deciding 19^th round I-League clash after Pune FC stole their thunder 1-0 at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on Sunday.

Dempo started the match with a five point advantage over second placed East Bengal.

A win against Pune FC would have given them a crucial eight point advantage over their nearest rivals and the title would have been theirs to lose.

But, in a match where they seldom rose above the levels of mediocrity, Dempo found the visitors too stubborn to break down.

Izumi Arata scored the only goal of the match for Pune FC in the 19th minute and then the visitors defended resolutely to pick three crucial points.

It not just helped Pune FC improve their standing but also infused life into the I-League title race as the likes of East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Churchill Brothers saw their chances being given the kiss of life.

Dempo surprisingly took time to settle down and it was this hesitancy that Pune FC looked to exploit at the start.

Izumi Arata and Keita Mandjou left the rival defence guessing in the initial stages, and although Keita seemed particularly dangerous, it was Arata who headed the first goal after Baldeep Singh’s cross seemed inch perfect.

Almost immediately, Keita had a golden opportunity to put Pune two goals ahead, but the striker after doing exceptionally well to beat strong challenges from Clifford Miranda and Mahesh Gawli, surprisingly shot wide with only the goalkeeper at his mercy.

Clifford Miranda’s flick that was saved on the goalline by Pune defender Caitano costa was the closest, Dempo came to scoring in the first session.

Saini was first to depart as he was caught & bowled by RajwinderGollu. Introduction of skipper AmitYadav in the attack changed the scenario of the match as wickets were falling like nail pins. AmitYadav took 6 wickets at the cost of just 14 runs from 4 overs. RajwinderGolu was also instrumental in taking 2 wickets. Indian wrestlers added one gold and one silver medals to their kitty at the end of senior men Greco-Roman style competitions in the Dave Schultz Memorial International finals last night at the U.S. Olympic Training Centre in Colorodo Springs. With this the Indian tally stood at three gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

2011 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship gold medalist Anil Kumar of India lived up to his reputation by winning the first position in the 60 kg Greco-Roman style final. He defeated Jeremiah Davis, Colorado Springs, Colo. (U.S Army), 0-1, 3-2, 2-0 decision.

However, 2011 Commonwealth Wrestling champion Rajender Kumar of India had to satisfy himself with silver medal in 55 kg Greco-Roman style in Colorodo Springs. Spenser Mango, Colorado Springs, Colo. (U.S Army) pinned down Rajender in one minute and 57 seconds after leading by 5-1.

Kingfisher East Bengal and McDowells Mohun Bagan played out a 1-1 draw in the 19th round I League clash played at the Yuba Bharati Krinangan, in Kolkata on Saturday.
The draw ensured that both teams are still very much in the fray for the title.
The match started after a minutes silence was observed for the Egypt football stadium tragedy that took place earlier this week.
For East Bengal, Robin Singh started upfront with Tolgay Ozbey while for Mohun Bagan it was Sunil Chhetri and Odafa Okolie.
Right from the kick off, one could make out both teams felt the nerves, even as Haramjoot Khabra flew in with a challenge on Hudson Lima but escaped with a yellow card.
The first chance fell to Sunil Chhetri who took a shot from the edge of the box but it sailed over the crossbar.
The first 25 minutes were all about possession for red and gold. In the 29th minute Robin Singh headed down a free kick for Tolgay Ozbey who misdirected his shot and could not capitalise.
However, in the 33rd minute Haromjeet Khabra played a delightful pass to Robin Singh to which he latched onto it, to finish it with his right foot and gave East Bengal a 1-0 lead.
Just two minutes into the second half, Odafa Okolie dribbled past Mehtab Hussain and struck a shot which deflected into the East Bengal goalmouth and led the mariners to restore parity.
After the equaliser both the teams kept trying without any success. The scoreline remained same till the full time.
East Bengal now have 35 points from 19 matches while Mohun Bagan are just a point behind from 19 outings.

In a low scoring encounter KXIP Red defeated KXIP Blue by eight wickets with 16 balls to spare in the inaugural match of KXIP Cup 2012 being played at PCA Stadium in Mohali today.

KXIP Red won the toss and elected to field first. Openers Sarul Kanwar (23) and Parshant Chopra (23) gave a good start as the duo added 37 runs for the 1^st wicket before Sarul Kanwar was sent back to pavilion by Jitender Mehta.

Amitoze Singh (32) shows some resistance in the middle order, whereas other batsman gave away there wickets very cheaply.

KXIP Red bowlers bowled a tight line and length and didn’t give their opponents the free run scoring options. Kuldeep Diwan was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped 4 wickets at the cost of 21 runs from his 4 overs. He was ably supported by Jitender Mehta who took 2 wickets for 19 runs. KXIP Blue managed to score a modest total of 128 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in allotted 20 overs.

The Police team piled up an impressive total of 225 for 6. Sub Inspector Satnam Singh and Ramandeep Singh gave the Press XI bowlers a tough time. Satnam top-scored with 78 runs while Ramandeep contributed a valuable score of 55 runs. Vishal Sharma made 28.

The Indian wrestling team claimed two gold, one silver and two bronze in free style and female categories of the Dave Schultz Memorial International finals last night at the U.S. Olympic Training Centre.

Indian gold medallist wrestlers were Amit Kumar (55 kg) and Sushil Kumar ( 66 kg). Rahul Aware ( 55 kg) bagged silver while Parveen Rana (66 kg) and Babita (55 kg) earned bron ze for India.

An amount of Rs. 4.73 crore has been spent so far under ‘Operation Excellence for London Olympics 2012’ (OPEX 2012) scheme on the training/ foreign exposure to weightlifters. Out of this, a sum of Rs. 2.78 crore was spent on conducting National Coaching Camps for training of 50 core probables (24 men and 26 women), the number that was later reduced to 26 (17 men and 9 women), who were aided by 6 coaches and 4 supporting personnel.
Apart from that, Indian team participated in 3 International Competitions during 2011. The total expenditure incurred towards the international exposure came to Rs. 1.95 crore till 31.12.2012. Three camps of a total duration of 247 days were conducted till December, 2011. The training began in March, 2011 to give these weightlifters enough time to prepare for London games.
This was stated by Mr Sahdev Yadav, Secretary General, Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) in review meeting of the preparation for Olympics, 2012, called by Mr Ajay Maken, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports.

In the meeting, it was mentioned by the Minister that his ministry has decided to enhance the food supplement for core probables of all power games, including weightlifting, from Rs. 250 per day to Rs. 500 per day till the London Olympics.

Mr Yadav said that though no weightlifter had as yet qualified for London Olympics, the Federation was confident that at least 3 weightlifters would make it to London Olympics in the coming qualifying event which is:

Senior (Men & Women) Asian Weightlifting Championships to be held at Pyeongtaek, Korea from 22-30 April 2012.

In Beijing Olympics, 2008, one weightlifter from India, namely Ms. Monika Devi, participated. In Sydney Olympics, 2000, Ms. Karnam Malleswari won the bronze medal in 63 kg category while in Athens Olympics, 2004, Ms. N. Kunjurani Devi was 4^th in 48 kg category.

Churchill Brothers secured full points from their 18^th round encounter played against Air India and placed themselves in a perfect position to threaten fellow Goan rivals, Dempo SC, in the race to the top as they have a game in hand in the I-League Football Championship.

Captain Roberto ‘Beto’ Silva scored on second rebound following a free-kick in the 30^th minute and that was enough for Churchill to hang on and win 1-0 at the Balewadi Sports Complex ground on Thursday.

Churchill are now have 33 points, one point behind East Bengal and seven off leaders Dempo, but they have a game in hand that could prove decider towards the end of the league. While Air India stays at 24 points from 18 matches.

Both teams missed the services of their first choice strikers—Henry Antchouet and ND Opara for Churchill and Henry Ezeh and Takayuki Omi for Air India—but still the Goans showed they had good reserves.

Air India, nonetheless, found some cracks in Churchill defence and sneaked in, but the home team’s finishing was not up to the mark. Sandeep Sangha’s sent at least four wayward shots from the top of the box after he was handed a golden chance as early as in the ninth minute.

Churchill’s goal was set up when Balan took freekick that landed behind the wall and on second rebound, Beto pounced on the chance and let the ball stroll into the post.

Air India replied through Lamine Tamba making a move with Manandeep Singh and Sandesh Gadkari taking the ball forward. But then, Sangha fired the ball way over the crossbar in the 36^th minute.

On resumption, Air India showed some urgency to find and equalizer. But then without Takayuki and Henry, they really struggled. But Manandeep was a revelation as he created at least three chances in the second half but failed to get support upfront.

Man-of-the-match was awarded to Churchill’s Roberto Silva.
