Buried: TERROR-IFIC

Buried was recommended to me by one of my closest friend, who is another movie buff like me :p, with one comment that its a TRAGIC THRILLER...i didn't get it at that time but man! after watching the movie I wanted to make my friends life TRAGIC :D

First things first I classify this movie as one of the GREATEST and GRIPPING thriller movies Iv ever watched! The story line was different from any of the usual thrillers. From start till end the movie is intense on claustrophobic tension and you will suffocate million times before the movie comes to an end. :) but hey thats the good part :D you will know once you watch the movie.

Buried is about an American Truck driver, Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) in Iraq, his convoy is ambushed by a group of Iraqis and he is taken hostage and placed into coffin 6 feet deep in the ground with a mobile phone thats draining out of energy, a lighter, limited oxygen and he has about 90 minutes in order to arrange a ransom for the kidnappers before his worst nightmare comes true.

The whole movie is full of suspense, Ryan Reynolds superbly conveying the terror of being trapped in a coffin that hardly allows him to roll to his side, the panic, the suffocation and extreme fear of dying in there that makes this movie so appealing and gripping. This movie is everyone's worst nightmare. Just the thought of being confined into a tiny box with limited air to breath can give you the chills.

As if the situation which Ryan Reynolds depicting wasn't enough, the real shocker is the ending of the movie. Its not what you would expect from a typical thriller movie where the good wins and the bad loses. This movie doesn't let you enjoy even one ounce of comfort. After the movie ended I finally understood what a truly tragic, heart wrenching and almost perfect (I think) ending was given to the movie.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Funny Quotes

After watching a series of serious movies, I decided to go for something light this time, and randomly picked this movie (the trailer was funny enough :p). Although it was too childish for my taste but I still enjoyed a number of scenes during the movie. :)

Apparently, the movie has been adapted from "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Greg Heffley's Journal or Diary of a Wimpy Kid: A Novel in Cartoons" written by Jeff Kinney. The story is about a middle school kid, Greg Heffley who receives a diary from his mother, which he insists on calling it a "journal" so that he doesn't get bullied for it in the middle school. Greg uses this diary for recording his journey along with his best friend Rowley, through middle school and scribbling cartoons of himself and his friends. After that, the movie is packed with a series of funny incidents, the hilarious transition of entering one's teens (kind of reminded me of my own :s lol), having a best friend that embarrasses you because you think your'e cooler than him/her and in the end its your best friend that gets everyones attention and affection. :)

I am going to share some of the funny qoutes that really got me laughing:

Greg: First of all, let me get something straight. This is a journal not a diary. Yeah, yeah, I know what it says on the cover, but it's wrong. When my mom went out to buy this thing, I specifically told her not to get anything that says "DIARY" on it. And yet, here we are.

Fregley: Wanna see my secret freckle? It's got a hair in it!!!

Rowley: A butt can't be cute. It's a butt.

Rowley: Hey Bryce! Cute butt!

Rodrick: Let go, Baby Hippo!

Rowley: My mom told me to just be myself, and people would like me.

Greg: That would be good advice, if you were somebody else.

Greg: You're kidding me, right?

Rowley: Mom wanted me to be visible at night.

Conviction-My Thoughts

Last night I came across this amazing and highly inspirational movie based on true story of Anne Waters (Hillary Swank) whose elder brother (Sam Rockwell) was wrongfully convicted of an atrocious murder and sentenced for life in 1983. Its Anne Waters surprisingly persistent crusade to prove her brothers innocence over the period of 18 years. Anne Waters was a working class Massachusetts high school drop out who made it her life's cause to free her brother from prison. It was her persistent and amazing journey of how she opted to enroll herself in a law school and became a lawyer just to be able to defend her brother and reopen the case. During the course of time, she sacrificed her marriage, missed out on her two sons childhood...for the love of a brother who had been her best friend and protector since they were kids.

Personally, I loved this movie because it showed events that were too close to real life. Things didn't work out well for Anne Waters for a long time. She faced so many major set backs over the years but not for a second she doubted her cause or lost hope in her chances to succeed. All along the movie, I kept on imagining myself, placing myself in Anne Waters place....a person like me would have been discouraged long ago...lost hope on the sight of just one major set back. I look back onto my life and I feel guilty of not pushing myself hard enough for things I believed in.

Anne Waters blind faith in her brother's innocence and her own untiring efforts of going to any lengths to save him, was extremely inspirational. How many of us would have actually sacrificed ourselves in such a way for family in today's world? Such pure devotion is rare even among blood relations.

I asked myself the same question, would I do this for my sister? the answer came to me almost automatically, OFCOURSE I would. But who knows how one might react under severe conditions? who knows when I might decide to give up? would I break up and lose hope or would I fight back even when the world is calling it a lost cause? Its when you are facing a hard situation and when you feel you have no other option but to fight...thats when you become aware of your true self, your own worth and what others mean to you whom you label as close and loved ones. I look around myself and see families breaking up on meaningless issues, siblings going bitter towards each other on issues that aren't worth their relation. Fights, hate and anger towards each other on material things. Why have people stopped valuing the concept of FAMILY....family is suppose to be the rock of your life from which you derive love and support and one should be as devoted to them as Anne Waters was. Clarity of heart, thats what matters.

I have marked this movie as one of my favourites, it really did make me think and review my own life and relations. I would say its a must watch. You might start from watching its trailer :)

The Intent

I don't even remember when was the first time I got fascinated by movies and started watching them. I remember my childhood spent with disney movies...Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid etc or I would climb besides my mom on our usual couch and silently watch whatever movie that she used to watch, even though I would hardly understand them but mom would later pull me close and lovingly tell me the whole story and I would think about them for days all happy and wanting to hear more ..... thats my first vivid memory of getting the taste of fantasy world and how wonderful it felt to be transported to some other time period, some other world that you thought didn't even existed. :)

Three years back, when I shifted to another city for my masters degree, thats when I REALLY got addicted to watching movies. After classes I used to be too tired to watch TV in a shared students lounge hence I would just watch a movie almost every night in my own hostel room before sleeping just to keep myself sane under various types of pressures and loneliness. And this addiction has continued till to date, now that I am done with my degree and back home :) Id rather curl up with my laptop in front of me and watch a good movie than flip endlessly through TV channels.

This blog space that I'v created is with an intention to become my personal lounge for discussion and sharing my thoughts about movies that I loved or disappointed me, about upcoming movies that I look forward to watching and about movies to which I deeply relate, with all of you out there sharing my love for movies :))

Hoping it will turn into a lovely journal of my life intertwined with movies, my experiences mixed up with movies that reflect them, my life lessons that movies have so beautifully depicted.
