This feeling is due to many reasons - pressure on blood vessels caused by the enlarging uterus, and the need to eat more food.

The Womenshealth.gov website suggested tips on how to reduce dizziness during pregnancy:

Stand up slowly.

Try not to stand for long periods.

Don't skip regular meals.

Lie down on your left side when resting.

Wear loose-fitted clothing.

Tip 1: Drink plenty of water. It is considered as one of the greatest health myths. However, I still believe in the benefits of water, not only in its role for losing weight but also for being healthy.

Water is flushes out toxin in our body, and you won’t have to worry about calories for drinking more of it.

Start your day with a glass of water. As soon as you wake up, gulp down a glass of cool water. A glass of water lets out all your digestive juices and sort of lubricates the insides of your body. You may have your morning cup of tea but have it after a glass of water. It is good for you.

Drink a glass of water before you start the meal. Water naturally needs some space so that you feel fuller without actually having to stuff yourself.

Have another glass of water while you are having the meal. Again this is another way of making yourself full so that you can actually rise from the table eating less but feeling full just the same. Instead of drinking it one gulp, take sips after each morsel. It will help the food to settle faster so that you get that feeling that you are full faster

Tip 2: Avoid sweetened drinks such as sodas, soft drinks and the like. These drinks are sweetened with sugar, which obviously gives you lots of calories.

You should also avoid commercial juices because, like any other sweetened drinks, these will give you lots of calories for its sugar content. Additionally, these drinks are unhealthy for containing food coloring and artificial sweeteners. Drink home made fresh fruit juices.

Tip 3: Increase your fiber intake. Fiber acts as body cleanser. Go crazy over vegetables and fruits because these are good and natural sources of diet fibers.

Tip 4: Try to stick to black tea/coffee. Black tea or coffee can actually be good for you. But personally I would like to recommend tea rather than coffee. The caffeine in the coffee is not really good for you because it is an alkaloid and can affect other functions of your body like the metabolism.

Tip 5: Stay away from fried things. Fried things are an absolute no-no. The more fried things that you avoid, the lesser weight you will gain. Fried things are called so because they are fried in oil or fat. And even if the external oil is drained away, there is still a lot of hidden oil in it so stay away from it.

Tip 6: Fresh vegetables are better than cooked or canned vegetables. Try to eat your vegetables raw. When you cook them, you are in fact taking away nearly half the vitamins in them. And canned vegetables too are processed and are not nearly half as good as fresh vegetables. When you buy your vegetables it would be a good thing to see if the label says that it is pesticide free.

Tip 7: Do not eat egg more than 1 per day. The yolk of an egg contains many calories. If you can avoid eating egg, then better. For die-hard egg fanatics, you still can indulge to it however; it is advisable not to eat more than one piece a day.

Tip 8: Make chocolates a luxury and not a routine. Chocolates are not or at least they should not be a part of your diet. So do not indulge too much in them. Even the bitter chocolates are not good for you because though the sugar is less there is still the cream in them.

Tip 9: Choose white meat rather than red. White meat, which includes fish and fowl, is miles better than red meat, which includes beef and pork for those trying to lose weight.

Tip 10: Try and adopt a vegetarian diet. A vegetarian diet is undoubtedly better for those of us watching our diet. There are a lot of advantages of keeping to a vegetarian diet but I don’t want to sing an ode to vegetarianism now. What I would suggest is keep to a vegetarian diet as much as you can. Make a non- vegetarian diet a week end event or something if you find it impossible to give up eating all those animals.

One example of the many sports injuries is an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. This is an injury to the knee. It is one of the common sports injuries in people who play sports that challenge their knees, such as hockey, skating, skiing, basketball, and of course, football. It can limit the range of a player's motion in that leg, and make the leg weak.

Surgery is sometimes done for these sports injuries, but physiotherapy is always a part of the treatment. The three major exercises done to start the healing process of ACL are heel slides, quad sets, and straight leg raises.

Heel slides are exercises for ACL sports injuries that are easy to understand, but may be painful to do at first. One simply lies on the bed or floor with the foot down. Then, one slides the foot slowly towards the buttocks until it hurts a little, and slides it back. This and the other exercises help prepare the knee for surgery or to heal without it.

Another of the sports injuries that physiotherapy is used for is tennis elbow. One might get tennis elbow from playing tennis, certainly, but it can also come about from any activity that involves twisting the wrist.

Sports injuries like tennis elbow are treated with a comprehensive plan of physiotherapy. Exercises are explained and assigned. Another common procedure for sports injuries is the use of ultrasound. Ultrasound is a way of applying heat deep into the muscle for pain relief.

Electrical stimulation can be used to keep pain from being felt through the nervous system. It is used for tennis elbow and many other sports injuries. Massage and manual therapy can also be used for physiotherapy.

Massage is one of the forms of soft tissue manipulation. However, soft tissue manipulation is to muscles what chiropractic is to bones. It deals not only with muscle, but with tendons and connective tissue as well. It is a specialized field of physiotherapy that has been used for people with sports injuries on many occasions.

As many children's sports teams are becoming ever more competitive, sports injuries among youngsters is increasing. Often, a well-meaning parent will tell the child to shake it off and keep playing. It is even more important for children to get adequate physiotherapy than it is for adults. Children are just developing, and a problem in childhood can lead to lifelong pain.

Some sports injuries happen because something physically traumatic happens to your body. Someone runs into you as you run with the football towards the end zone, for example. Other times, it is simply a matter of the physical demands you put on your body.

Physiotherapy is instrumental in the healing of many sports injuries. Many professional sports teams have physiotherapists on their staffs. In fact, either ACL or tennis elbow can become permanent conditions without the use of physiotherapy procedures.

Wash the bite area vigorously with soap under running water for at least 15 minutes.

Apply any anti-septic like povidone iodine or 70% alcohol.

Do not cover the wound with bandage of plaster.

Do not put anything over the wound like pounded garlic, plant juices, coffee or chilli powder that are believe as cures. These things are nonsterile and may just result to infected wounds.

Go to a nearest health center, physician or any hospital to get shots of vaccine immediately.

Instead of confining patients in a hospital facility, parents and caregivers can practice the D.E.N.G.U.E. strategy. D.E.N.G.U.E. stands for:
D - daily monitoring of patient’s status,
E - encourage intake of oral fluids like oresol, water, juices, etc,
N – note any dengue warning signs like persistent vomiting and bleeding,
G – give paracetamol for fever and NOT aspirin, because aspirin induces bleeding,
U – use mosquito nets and
E – early consultation is advised for any warning signs,

This new strategy aims to educate the public on home treatment of mild dengue cases which comprise a greater part of the number of patients with dengue. This is to also help decongest hospitals by giving an assurance that not all dengue cases require hospital confinement but can be managed at home using the said strategy.

Dr. Eric Tayag, head of the Department of Health’s (DOH) National Epidemiology Center, said mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus now have more areas to breed.

He said rapid urbanization and overpopulation also contribute to the outbreak in several areas around the country.

Tayag explained that mosquitoes breed either in stagnant water or inside containers where people store water.
The insects also thrive in flood waters.

The DOH has recorded 69,594 dengue cases across the country from January to August 28 this year.

It is the largest number of dengue cases in a single year, the DOH said.

Tayag told radio dzMM that 501 people, mostly children, have died from the illness. In 2009, there were 369 deaths.

Most of the dengue cases were recorded in Western Visayas, Southern Luzon, Central and Eastern Mindanao, and Metro Manila.

Tayag said dengue cases are rising in Metro Manila while the provinces are seeing a decrease.

He said DOH tests detected 3 different dengue strains that are now causing havoc in affected areas. ABS-CBN News

Probiotics, in particular, have weaved its way in the area of natural health. Many studies have been done to know the effects of probiotics in your body.

Not all bacteria are bad for your health. In fact, a number of good bacteria are present in your body. Probiotics are the good microorganisms similar to those that are present in your digestive system. When taken in adequate amounts, these will greatly improve your health. You can get probiotics by taking dietary supplements or by consuming foods that have probiotics in them.

There are many benefits and purposes of probiotics. Some of them are as follows:
• To treat some diseases
• To boost your immune system
• To improve general wellness
• To prevent certain illnesses.

Here are some common health conditions that probiotics are known to help prevent and treat:

• Diarrhea – The presence of probiotics in your body will greatly improve your digestion. It is said that probiotics are very effective in treating diarrhea that is caused by Rotavirus. Probiotics regulate absorption and improve the time that the food travels through your intestinal tract.
• Vaginal Yeast Infections – A study have shown that there have been great improvements on the cases of patients with Candida (Yeast) infections and who took probiotics than those who didn't. The good bacteria decrease the pH levels of these participants.
• Inflammatory bowel disease – Probiotics alter your intestinal environment to prevent the condition from worsening. These good bacteria help prevent a relapse of Crohn's disease and help patients on remission from Ulcerative colitis
• Constipation – In older individuals, probiotics can help prevent the occurrence of constipation by improving their digestion.
• Cancer – By boosting your immune system, probiotics can help prevent certain types of cancer.
• Other diseases such as atopic dermatitis on children, and infections caused by H. pylori and Clostridium Difficile.

With the many benefits of probiotics, it is not surprising that people are easily convinced to take them. Keep in mind though, that probiotics also have some mild side effects, like bloating. You have to only take them in the right amount. People who have low immune system should consult their doctors first before taking in probiotics. Some good microorganisms, while beneficial to healthy individuals, may not be beneficial to those who already have a low immune system.

Taking probiotics to improve your general health is greatly beneficial. They help you absorb and use the nutrients that are already present in your body like calcium, vitamin B, iron, copper and zinc. Your immune system will also improve when you have an adequate amount of probiotics as they regulate antibodies and lymphocytes, which are known to fight harmful bacteria and protect you from serious illnesses.

Good bacteria are vital to your body. Probiotics will give you all the help you need to improve your natural health, but remember, anything that concerns your health must always be consulted to your doctor. There are no taking chances to a healthy you.
It is packed with nutrition and can easily substitute for meats. It is made of soybeans and is low in cholesterol, fat and calories. Tofu is very popular among vegetarians because it is a great source of protein. Whether you're a vegetarian or not, it is a very healthy idea to include tofu in your diet because it provides your body with the nutrients you need.

Here are some benefits you can get from eating tofu:

Good for the heart
Tofu is low in calories, cholesterol and fats. We all know that too much cholesterol and fats will increase your risk of getting cardiovascular diseases. Tofu lowers the amount of Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and maintains a good amount of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) in your body. LDLs are known as the bad cholesterol. Excess amount of LDL will eventually result to serious heart illnesses. It also contains Omega 3. A nutrient that is important to keep your heart healthy.

Makes your Bones strong and healthy
Tofu is rich in calcium that is very much needed in keeping your bones strong. As you get older, you'll need more calcium in your body to prevent your bones from getting brittle and weak. Eating tofu also prevents you from developing rheumatoid arthritis.

Rich in protein and Vitamin B
This is most popular reason vegetarians eat tofu. Since they don't eat meat, they lack protein in their diet. Tofu is packed with protein and vitamin B. Tofu has a high amount of protein. Eating Tofu gives vegetarians the amount of protein they need without having to resort to eating meat.

Contains Isoflavones
Isoflavones help lower the amount of LDL in your body. They are known as cholesterol fighters. Isoflavones also work like estrogen. Combined with protein, tofu is very effective in fighting off certain diseases and types of cancer. Women on the pre- menopausal and menopausal stage can greatly benefit from tofu. The estrogen in tofu helps regulate hormone levels. During menopause, women experience hormonal imbalances due to the reduction of estrogen in their system. Without this hormone, women become prone to health conditions like osteoporosis and breast cancer. In men, isoflavones help reduce their risk of developing prostate cancer.

Powerful Antioxidant
Some people like to eat tofu because it is very rich in antioxidants that fight off radicals and other harmful microorganisms in the body. Having an adequate amount of antioxidant in your body is also known to prevent certain cancers.

Maintains Weight
Tofu can help you lose weight without losing important nutrients in your body. You get enough amount of protein that you get from meat without the fat. A study had shown that people who eat tofu have lower hunger cravings and stay full longer than those who don't eat tofu.

Tofu has many benefits. It is not an exclusive food for vegetarians. Eating tofu is one way of improving your natural health. To make eating tofu more delightful, try learning different tofu recipes.

The Tooth White lightening consequences of different bleaching methods can persist for one or two years, but this varies from individual to individual. Research on dentist prescribed “home” bleaching treatment has revealed that for folk who achieved a brighter shade, only half of them still had better teeth six months later. Your eating, drinking, smoking and brushing habits may have a repercussion on how long these Tooth White treatments last.

It’s important to keep in mind that bleaching doesn’t always imply the whiteness that you predict. The results change from individual to individual and rely on the shade of your teeth before bleaching. For this reason, it’s important to discuss all of the possible options for making improvements to the appearance of your teeth with your dentist before you decide on the Tooth White treatment for you.

Special issues

There are some examples when a dentist may recommend that you do not have bleaching. As an example, if you have tooth decay, this should be treated before starting any Tooth White lightening treatments. Similarly, your gums should be healthy, so if you’ve got any gum illness this could be treated .

If your teeth are intensely sensitive to cold and hot food or drinks, bleaching won’t be advocated because to obtain that Tooth White smile, a degree of sensitivity might need to be endured.

Some types of staining ( for example tetracycline antibiotic staining ) doesn’t reply to bleaching as well as others. Bleaching, if successful, may take longer on tetracycline discolored teeth.

Bleaching will not work on false teeth, crowns, veneers or fillings ( including tooth colored fillings ). Instead, your dentist may be in a position to replace these with lighter ones.

Bleaching isn’t usually recommended for children whose teeth are still developing or for pregnant or breastfeeding girls.
Deciding on treatment

There is no evidence to show that Tooth White bleaching is damaging to the gums, but it is not clear what the long-term effect on the nerves and arteries inside the teeth are.

All dental treatment carries a risk of complications, which are the unwelcome, but mostly non permanent effects of a successful treatment. Complications include temporary sensitivity of the teeth to hot and cold, a sore throat, tender gums and white patches on the gums. These complications should vanish after a few days. Contact your dentist if the symptoms persist.

It is possible to maintain a healthy lifestyle even if you do indulge your cravings occasionally. The problems begin when a person overindulges their cravings and cannot say no to them. Here are a few simple tips on how to deal with food cravings. Weight loss programs such as the one at six pack ab exercise program can produce tremendous results, but any program can be quickly derailed if a person does not exhibit any type of self control when faced with the desire to eat something.

Don’t give in to the feeling that you need to snack. Believe it or not, you can simply wait out a craving. By saying no to yourself, you can avoid mistaking a urge to eat something for a need to eat something and simply waiting it out might solve the issue. It is possible that after a few minutes pass, you may still feel the need for food and this could mean that you are truly hungry. Or, you may find the craving disappears altogether. Get your mind on something else, take a walk, write in your journal, play a game or go online to the $LINK2% and see how other people are avoiding giving in to their cravings. The only thing you have to lose is the feeling that you had to have food that was not going to help your weight loss program.

Get a drink. A glass of water, that is. Something as simple as a tall cup of ice water is one of the easiest ways to resist other temptations. A lack of water is often mistaken as a need for some other type of nourishment or urge. If you can soothe the urges for food that you might have with water, you will be adding something to you body that does not add to your fat. It may be just what you need.
Give in, but limit it to a small amount. By succumbing to our wants, we have acted without thought. When you act impulsively you have lost some control. It is difficult to gain the control back that is required in a weight loss program once you have fell for the urge. Don’t give in to the craving without thinking about it. Try putting some mindful eating techniques to use. If you decide to satisfy your craving, do it on a smaller scale. Never allow yourself to sit down with an entire carton of ice cream or a whole bag of chips. Take some out of the bag and put it into a small bowl to control the portion size. Better still, purchase small portions to begin with. You will see that the urge disappears just as well with a small piece as it does with a full plate. By putting smaller amounts on the plate you can stop yourself from overindulging. Don’t forget that you cheated a little when you exercise later and extend the length of your http://www.fatlossfactor.com to make up for the extra calories that you took in. It might give you the incentive to skip the food the next time you have the urge to snack.

Keep it real. Try to make the right choice for yourself. Don’t try to fool yourself into believing that your diet snack is as good as a piece of cake. You won’t believe yourself and should think about having a little of what you really want. Allow yourself to indulge in what you really want and you will not feel deprived. The problem people run into when they are dieting is that they are constantly telling themselves no so that when they do give in to their urges they lose all control and overdo it and ruin all of the work they have done. If a person gives into the urges for food they might not be able to lose the weight they want, however if they control them they can get the results they want.

Men and women who have a low testosterone level are usually predisposed to overweight. Testosterone also prevents weight gain in support of the HGH action too, which is an extra role it plays at the cellular level.

The best way to use testosterone for fat loss is to first determine whether your overweight is in any way related to an imbalance of hormones. And only a specialist can pass a diagnosis on the basis of the tests. If indeed the testosterone level is below the normal rate, your health care provider will advise for some course of action. Diet and natural supplements often stimulate the natural hormonal secretion so that you don’t need to follow any extra treatment.

Both men and women should keep an eye on testosterone for fat loss, particularly since lifestyle often triggers imbalances in the hormones. Did you know, for example, that improper night rest impairs the secretion of testosterone? The adrenal glands, the ovaries and the testes will only secret enough hormones if you sleep well. Another issue that could be related to testosterone for fat loss is a zinc deficiency in the body system.

The body shape bears the actual impact of testosterone for fat loss. The shoulders broaden, the waist narrows, the face features become better defined, and all these happen because the androgen receptors in the fat bear the influence of the hormone. Not everybody who suffers from overweight has a testosterone imbalance. There are other hormones in the body and their fluctuations could also lead to weight gain. It is important not to treat by the ear, and take things seriously.

Muscle increase goes hand in hand with the role of testosterone for fat loss. This explains the reaction of the system to heavy gym training and body building work-outs. The more you train, the more testosterone is secreted and the fat deposits are replaced with pure muscle mass. Keep the process under control by medical checks and a balanced, holistic approach to weight loss. If you avoid weight gain naturally as part of your daily routine, the impact on health and the personal physical condition will be all the more significant.

New findings came about when federal centers and the state’s health department were able to determine the strain of HIV that infected the dentist through DNA sequencing.A lot of opposing elements emerged from the strain of HIV carried by the dentist and the strain that infected his patients.Help on braces sydney is easy to get.

The poor maintenance of dental implements did not do anything to cause the virus to spread and patients were also informed that they probably contracted HIV from external sources separate from the dental clinic. This follow up helps put the investigation in better perspective.Mandatory health assessment exams for physicians should be the least of a patient’s worries as this study proves how low the risk of getting a virus from a dentist is.

Mandatory testing for physicians was the brainchild of a female patient who was infected by the first dentist who ended up infecting a total of six people before succumbing to the disease.Populations of indigents had the second dentist to thank for the many years that he spent providing them with treatment regardless of their AIDS situation.Sadly he contracted HIV and after three years spent his dying days in a hospice.

During the last five years that he treated patients he served quite a number of people and 19% of them got tested for HIV with 24 contracting the virus.HIV was also able to reach four more of his earlier patients. To see if behavioral issues are present in those who were HIV positive studies were done and 24 of the patients came out to be potential risks. The dentist had a different strain of HIV from his patients and the information resulted from the DNA sequencing that was applied.Detailed teeth braces sydney resources can be found there.

The absence of any similarities among the tested HIV strains strengthens the impossibility of having the dentist as the transmitter. But instead, we found that each of the infected patients and the dentist had distinct strains, suggesting that each was infected independently. It was still crucial to verify that dental implements possibly exposed to the virus did not have the capacity to transmit HIV.

A patient dying will always come as a shock but according to AIDS experts having new explanations may help people overcome their fear with regard to the dental field. One HIV sequence database and analysis project director is anticipating the possible effects on the center for disease control of the recent turn of events.Isolating HIV strains is the purpose of having the quasi governmental organization that never disregards the chances of experiencing another case like this taking into consideration the HIV epidemic that still exists today.A campaign for safe practices was developed by the American dental profession and research like this one will definitely support their efforts.

A lot of changes have been happening in the dental field with the case finally being closed and with more efforts to implement infection control procedures. In line with safety procedures being implemented the same should apply for mandatory testing as said by the lawyer for the AIDS victim as false security is never ethical. It is possible that negligent behavior was the cause behind these patients contracting HIV but nevertheless public health services did not succeed in providing these people with the security they are due.

The response of patients will differ, as well as their personal, mental and emotional ability to handle the new situations. Find out the best approaches that lead to independence and wellness.

Expert Advice

It is important that you consult the professionals first, before determining the proper approaches that lead to a better and healthier lifestyle. You may belong to an online forum or local support group. Start to talk about the situation with others who share the same concerns and sentiments with you. It is important to know that patients’ reactions can differ depending on their own personal experiences and capabilities.

Find out the most reliable ways and coping measures that worked for most patients. Talk therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and other rehabilitative methods are some of the proven ways. There are also medications that may be prescribed, if other symptoms or conditions are present. These should only be used if truly recommended by the experts.

Help Starts Within

You need to start by finding the right coping measures for yourself to provide full support to your child. You may experience feelings of guilt, fear, shock and disbelief. Take note that your baby is the one who needs the most attention and support at this time. Take charge of your emotions and understand the ways to improve and adjust accordingly. You can start by rearranging the home to offer safety and security for the baby, changing your schedule to provide more time for him or her and knowing the right diet, toys and other tools for independence.

Family Support

Other members of the family should also help during the most critical stages of the child’s life. Although milestones may be reached at a later age, every person in the house should contribute to boost overall wellness. If you intend to breastfeed your baby, you should ask your physician first, since babies with Down syndrome tend to have low muscle tone or hypotonia. They may have difficulty breastfeeding properly. Breastfeeding can actually help in immunity and other functions for the baby.

Siblings can take turns taking care of the baby. Other relatives can also come over to help the child improve social skills and communicating. Take your child to different venues with different people to boost its confidence. The family should coordinate well to meet the needs of the baby until it is ready to do things alone.

Taking It Slowly

The coping techniques need to be incorporated slowly for patients to deal with the challenges and learn to become independent. Do not pressure the patient so much to reach new heights and give compliments and praise for small efforts. Parents should also be kind to themselves and stop blaming the wrong reasons. Down syndrome is a genetic condition that people truly do not have any control over.

The effects and symptoms of Down syndrome usually last a lifetime so individuals and families need to be ready for these. Parents should not also stop themselves from giving birth to more kids because they have a history of the condition. Although it is not entirely impossible, a lot of parents can actually continue giving birth to normal children despite the previous one being afflicted with Down syndrome.

Anger, sadness, jealousy or anxiety sometimes incapacitates you. You feel you’re disorganized and forgetful more often than not. You find it hard to concentrate when you need to focus the most. Life just seems to pass you by and you occasionally wonder, “What is the point of life, really?” It’s okay if you feel that way, as it is human nature, yet a meditation teacher would say you don’t have to feel this way. Through meditation techniques, you can free yourself from negative emotions that arise and find a deep sense of calmness and self awareness.

Most of the modern techniques for mediation fall into one of two categories: Zen-based forms (which involve insight meditation) and Hinduism-based forms (which involve concentrative meditation). With Zen-based meditation, like vipassana or mindfulness meditation, you will become aware of the passing of thoughts and feelings, without becoming emotionally involved. The person meditating sits quietly and allows any thought to pass through the mind, while gently redirecting the focus to the here and now. Breathing and observing body sensations helps to block out distractions to achieve perfect concentration, although there is always a consciousness about the process of achieving meditation.

The concentrative method of meditation focuses the attention on a particular subject, such as one’s breath, an image or a sound. The idea is that clarity will be at the end of the tunnel. This type of meditation absorbs the mind on the continuous rhythm of inhaling and exhaling. While absorbed in that thought, breathing becomes even slower and deeper, as the mind becomes more and more aware. Transcendental meditation and yoga nidra (sleep of the yogis) are Hindu-based concentrative, meditation techniques and methods that encourage a retreat into the inner self.

When practicing meditation techniques at home, it’s difficult to know whether you’re on the right path or just faking it. Initially, relaxation meditation does feel artificial and a bit forced. Before you reach awareness, you must first battle your mind’s natural tendency to run the show and control everything. As you focus on inner feelings, breathing and visualization, you will find your cares and frustrations melt away. Understand that as long as you are breathing slowly and rhythmically, you are likely on the right path.

Beth Kaminski is a leading expert in the treating panic disorder and has been publishing lots of information on the best panic disorder medications for years now.

W. Brooks, MD wrote 25 easy & healthy tips for eating at restaurants. We are all aware that fast food and restaurant meals are rich in calories, in fact it was said that an average restaurant meal has over 1,000 calories. It’s enough to blow your diet.

Good news! You can actually continue to eat at your favorite fast food chains and restaurants without gaining any weight. Just follow these simple ways to prevent weight gain:us

1. If you know the menu from the restaurant you’re going to, plan what you’re going to have ahead of time. This will help save you from making a last minute decision that could result in high-calorie choices.

2. Drink at least one full-glass of water or iced tea before eating your meal. This helps your digestive process, and, because you’ll feel full sooner, you will eat less.

3. Don’t be afraid to ask for the “senior citizen” special or kid’s-sized portions. Most restaurants will accommodate you — and often you’ll pay less as well!

4. Order first. That way you’re much less likely to be influenced by the choices of your companions.

5. If you’re not sure how something is prepared, don’t be afraid to ask. And if the dish is cooked in oil or butter, you can always ask if they have a “fat free” option.

6. If everything on the menu is high in fat or calories, ask if the chef could prepare a plate of fresh fruit and vegetables. Many restaurants offer a vegetarian selection, so if you don’t see it on the menu, ask.

7. When ordering meat or fish, ask that it be grilled or broiled, and prepared without oil or butter. (When you eat it, use lemon or herbs and spices to give it flavor rather than heavy sauces).

8. Order an appetizer and a salad as your meal. Or a soup and salad. For dessert, choose fresh fruit.

9. And I think the article is intended for me.

I’ve already talked about my memory lapses in my Xanga. Sometimes, I can even sleep with my glasses on (especially, when I fell asleep on my study table, heh!). You might think that this problem is associated only with aging, although it is said that forgetfulness is commonly encountered with senility.

The article emphasized some of the preventive and enhancing activities for the mind.

1. Be educated. Many epidemiologic studies associated higher levels of education and intelligence with lower rates of dementia. The theory states that the neurons of the intelligent and educated brain have more connections than a less intelligent, less educated brain.

2. Exercise your mind. Our mind can be compared to our physical body. Regular exercise ensues good physical health. They give these examples: When you meet a new person, for example, you are more likely to remember his or her name if you not only focus on how the person looks, but also repeat the name aloud, and note how the handshake feels and what his or her voice sounds like. Second, the activity of the brain intensifies when it is asked to process new information or attacks a routine task in a novel way. Making a new friend, cooking from a new recipe, or taking a new route to the supermarket are examples of how you might consciously give your brain fresh material to work on.

3. Avoid stress. Some researches associate lower mental performance to higher cortisol level. Cortisol, usually referred as “stress hormone”, is released when the body is put under stress.

4. Get enough sleep. Apparently, our mothers were right when they asked us to sleep early to get a brighter mind when we were kids. Remembrances can have a dreamlike quality and dreams can certainly dredge up long-buried thoughts, but sleep in general also seems to play a big part in maintaining the brain’s workaday memory functions.

5. Stay physically active. Epidemiologic studies have suggested a link between exercise and healthy human thinking.

In the article, it was also pointed out that hypertension can cause significant memory because this condition may result to damage of the small blood vessels in the brain which could affect cognitive functions.

Reference:
1. www.health.harvard.edu (Newsletter)

Accordingly, allowing food to cool at a slower rate reduces the likelihood that it will spoil. Another theory suggests that hot food can somehow interfere with the circulation of cold air in the refrigerator.

But according to the Food and Drug Administration (as reported by NYTimes), leftover food (particularly meat) should be refrigerated immediately after serving, and certainly within two hours of cooking.

Food bacteria can double every 30 or 40 minutes, and several outbreaks of food poisoning have been linked to meat cooked and left to cool at room temperature for too long.

Generally, the bacteria that contaminate food thrive at temperatures between 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit, so leftovers should always be stored in a refrigerator set at 40 degrees or below.

When the quantity of food is large, it should be separated into small containers for quicker cooling, and reheated no more than once.

Source: NYTimes.com

Soap manufacturers always come up with innovative products that “enhance” this preventive techniques. We see ads on TV about how effectively hand sanitizers and antibacterial soaps prevent germs which almost always convince the consumers. Recent studies however say that washing hands with ordinary soap and water for 15 seconds reduces bacterial counts by about 90%. But even people who are conscientious about washing their hands often make the mistake of not drying them properly. Wet hands are more likely to spread germs than dry ones. Harvard Health Letter

Soap manufacturers found a good way to convince consumer more in buying their products through antibacterials additives. But experts fear that antibiotic resistance, which is now one of the major health concerns, might result from use of these antibacterial soaps. Further, research shows that these additives don’t add much on hand hygiene. Thus, this serves as a useful reminder that antibacterial soaps aren’t the all-purpose germ fighters that many people think they are.

A more recent innovation is the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Consumers find it the most convenient way to prevent infectious when water and soap are out of reach. But alcohol does not kill everything, and people should be reminded that it should not be the only cleaner available in health care settings.

The newsletter gave tips on how to effectively kill germs through hand washing with soap and water or hand sanitizer:

1. Spread cleaner over hands.
2. Clean backs.
3. Clean fingertips.
4. Clean fingernails.
5. Clean thumbs.
6. Clean between fingers.
7. When using hand sanitizer, be sure that you use a large amounts of it.

Bottom line is, your ordinary soap and clean water are already sufficient to prevent infections without spending more on these new products.

Few studies and researches made not too long ago suggested it has. In fact, a lot of chemicals containing chocolate were found to be beneficial to the people's health. So, it does contradict the old myth and half-truths surrounding the saying that anything that looks and tastes good is bad.

The health benefits are particularly true to cocoa, dark chocolate, and minimally-processed chocolate foods. Aside from the copper and magnesium, which aids in regulating blood pressure and heartbeat, they contain flavonoids, the ones that you also found in high-antioxidant green tea. As you probably know it already, antioxidants are good for the health as they accomplish a number of health benefits, such as the following:

- Improve circulation
- Lower blood pressure
- Stimulate kidneys, improve digestion
- Can help patients with poor appetite, kidney stones, and anemia
- Improve endothelial functions
- Guard against free radicals and other destructive molecules, which are known to trigger stroke and heart disease.
- Lower heart disease-related deaths

Flavonoids have two different kinds, the epicatechins and catechin. The catechin has been found to be rich in minimally processed chocolate foods and cocoa. This is known to aid in preventing heart disease illnesses and possibly cancer problems. It is also aid to boosting an individual's immune system, this one also was recently discovered by the experts. Catechins can be found triple in amount in chocolates as compared to those found in teas.

But despite the discovered health benefits of chocolate, you have to be cautious at what type and amount of chocolate food you consume. As anything excessive can be bad to health, and that applies to chocolate too. Eating high quantities of chocolate can still cause weight and eventually trigger illness especially if you consume the less healthy type of chocolate.

In order to avoid the unpleasant consequences, you have to choose the right type of chocolate when consuming as not all kinds are good. For example, highly-processed chocolate food kind such as those in candy and bar forms have high calories, sugar, and fat contents, therefore, must be avoided at all cost. Healthy kinds are dark chocolate, cocoa, and any other minimally-processed chocolate food.

This is in relation to studies demonstrating possible effects by eating chocolates done by the experts to groups of participants. In a particular study, half of the group ate dark chocolate while the other white chocolate. One ones who ate white chocolate, showed no change in blood pressure, while the other who ate dark chocolate, significantly lowered their systolic blood pressure.

At another conducted Pennsylvania State University study,a different group of participants received low fat diet, except that the half got high-carb snack and the other consumed low fat chocolate bar for a certain length of time. The two split groups didn't show difference in levels of bad or LDL cholesterol afterwards. However, those that ate chocolate bars did show increase in triglycerides, a type of heart-risk blood fat, and good or HDL cholesterols.

From these studies, it showed how chocolate can actually be a good diet food. However, note that the participants were only fed in minimal quantities of chocolates, therefore it is still not advised to consume this sweet treat more than what is required for you to take. Also, remember to avoid chocolate foods that are high in artificial flavorings, with dairy products, and sugars. Remember this: the less that it is processed, the more that health benefits you will get from chocolate.

The chi, which is the energy found in the body, needs to flow freely along the meridians of the body in order to achieve proper balance.

There are fourteen meridians found in the body, twelve of which are used as channels or passageways for the healing. The liver, kidney, stomach, bladder, spleen, gall bladder, small and large intestines, the pericardium, body temperature regulator, and the heart are some consisting the twelve meridians associated to body organs that serve as passage for the chi to flow to balance out the body.

Shiatsu massage is not only beneficial in improving health condition of the above body organs but likewise to other illnesses such as tension, stress, and even aches resulting from long term repetitive motions such as the arm using for writing, typing on the keyboard, and computer mouse.

Specifically, the therapy is known to treat various disorders including:
- headaches, migraines
- back pain, back problems and stiff/frozen shoulders
- sciatica nerve pains
- whiplash injuries
- carpal tunnel
- abdominal pain, , gastrointestinal disorders, and joint pain
- tennis elbow, herniated or bulging discs
- dizziness, weakness, and vertigo
- muscle pain disorders
- anxiety disorders, fatigue and stress

Additionally, it is also known to prevent progression, if not to treat, long list of health disorders. It includes:
- providing complete relaxation
- reducing overall anxiety and stress
- improving blood circulation and preventing diseases
- getting rid of body toxins and waste
- increasing mental, spiritual, and mental well-being
- increasing flexibility and mobility of the body
- balancing the menstrual cycles of the women
- increasing sexual exuberance
- clearing the mind
- relaxing the musculoskeletal in the body structure

The explanation for the improvement and treatment provided by shiatsu massage therapy is when the body becomes imbalanced the immune system tends to become weak and consequently vulnerable enough to easily contract diseases.

If the body shows loss of energy, it experiences weakening, meaning the organs in the body are not functioning well while the body tissues are slowly failing. In shiatsu principle, it shows that the energy, chi, is already losing its capabilities as well to freely flow.

The aim of the shiatsu massage now is to restore that chi so that everything will follow suit until all the body organs are able to function better again. The technique that the massage therapist uses boosts the immune system so that the body is freed of the negative conditions.

It is amazing that the shiatsu massage technique only uses pressure method applied by the fingers, palm, thumbs, and sometimes by the elbow, knees and feet, but it is all about the amount of pressure administered into the pressure points of the body. The amount of pressure releases the hindered energy so that your overall well being improves significantly.

It is a form of oriental medical treatment known to be started by Chinese people thousands of years ago, and became a powerful yet gentle healing art of the Japanese, with shi, meaning finger, and atsu, as pressure. It has the philosophy that the flow of energy must be re-established to benefit overall well being of the person by focusing on the network of meridians found in the human body.

The shiatsu has a literal meaning of "finger-pressure." It uses fingers, palms, thumbs, knees, elbows and even feet to apply the pressure to the body energy points. Through the use of these pressure-applying parts, shiatsu can serve as preventative therapy, addressing the underlying roots as well as the symptoms of various diseases. The meridians, which as shiatsu principle elaborates, are associated to most major body organs, like the lungs, kidneys, liver, heart, and others.

As shiatsu principle teaches the people, it is the sole responsibility of the person to take care of their own well being and health. It is in contrast with the Western medical belief which earlier told us that it is the medical practitioners who are primarily responsible for the health of the people. In the Western awareness, the unique characteristic of tough therapy has been lost that it is believed that only the medical experts can give cure and treatment to people suffering from diseases.

While to most extent, it is necessary to trust one's well being into medical practitioners, it is not right to forget that there exists essential benefits between touches of two human beings delivering the needed communication that can also serve as therapy to improve one's health and condition. It is a good thing the western culture has now seen the significance of this touch therapy that it finally has recognized the beneficial effects of massage therapy, acupressure, and acupuncture methods, such as the shiatsu massage.

As the world recognized the essence of shiatsu massage method, out born the shiatsu massage chair for the people who want to improve their health condition and seek a more convenient way to do it. Shiatsu massage chairs are designed to provide the people a medium to improve their overall being without going outdoors. What they get from the massage therapy sessions administered by the shiatsu specialists and practitioners can be obtained by using a shiatsu massage chair.

Obviously, shiatsu massage chairs have principles the same as that traditional shiatsu massage finger-pressure techniques provide. All the same, the massage chairs work to strengthen and improve the immune system so that when practiced or used more consistently, can become your instrument of preventive health care.

Many people can benefit from shiatsu massage chairs. As have been used by many celebrities like Henry Kissinger and professional dancers around the world like Martha Graham, Ivan Nagy, and others, this device is truly a magic working its way to provide better life not only to them but to people who are suffering from certain disorders and those wanting to relax their body.

The shiatsu massage chairs are a great way to relieve the patient from their muscle pains, especially at the back, legs, arms, and others parts of the body that are in constant rigid mobility, as well as other unhealthy conditions. The chairs will restore the vitality and energy so that the patient will always be ready to face the challenges even the harshness of their daily activities.

A person who is riddled with problems often finds it hard to focus; which often leads to more problems cropping up due to their mistakes. Meditation techniques helps a person achieve a calm state of mind without having to resort to drugs or relaxation tools and implements. Every step to meditation is done in the mind.

Remember that meditation is not a one shot deal. It is almost impossible to attain a calm state of mind in just a matter of minutes, especially if it's your first time at it. It is essential that you keep on practicing meditation until you have conditioned your mind to instantaneously achieve the state just by thinking it.

Here are some steps for a beginner to start with meditation as their Stress Management strategy.

Step 1: Find A Quiet Corner To Start Your Meditation

Distraction is a hindrance to those who are still starting out with meditation. When you close your eyes, your sense of hearing will be twice as good so it is quite possible to hear almost anything in your surroundings that will make it hard for you to concentrate.

For beginners, it is important to start out in a quiet place in your home where noise is non-existent. Close your windows and lock your door. If possible, you can tell everyone in your home to minimize their noise so that you won't get distracted.

Step 2: Ready Your Position

It is advisable for beginners to avoid lying down when practicing meditation. The aim here is not to sleep, and it is a guarantee that you will immediately fall off to sleep if your mind reaches a relaxed state. To stop this from happening, you can start your meditation in a lotus position or you can find a chair you can sit on. Make sure that your back is straight and your hands are relaxed on the armrest or on your lap.

Step 3: Begin Your Meditation With Proper Breathing

A good way to start meditation is to do the proper breathing exercise. You inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. This way, you can come up with a rhythm that you can easily focus on. Also, the amount of oxygen in your body will be enough to keep you relaxed. Keep practicing your breathing until you can do it easily without having to think about it.

Step 4: Focus On Your Mind

While you are busy with your breathing, you will achieve a state wherein your mind will start throwing images at you. These are mostly in random -- events of the day, future plans, problems and worries, fears and so on. It will be hard to ignore these thoughts and you are not supposed to ignore them. The gist here is to focus on these thoughts without really paying any attention to it.

This might sound hard but a here is a simple example to understand the concept. You know that you have furniture at home -- you can see them clearly with your eyes but you are not really concentrating on it. Focusing on the furniture will usually make you think of its color, its material, how it looks in that part of your home, and more. You need to be able to look at these random thoughts in a detached state -- seeing them clearly in your head but not focusing your attention on it.

There will come a time that these random thought will stop and you will notice that you are already in a blank space in your mind. This is the state you want to achieve during meditation. This is the place where you can think about your problems and focus on it till you can find a solution for it. With this, you have successfully mastered the basics of meditation for your stress management program.

The seemingly impossible task assigned to you, noisy workmates, the pollution in and out of the office, as well as your state of mind can easily lead you to the throes of stress if you aren’t careful.

If you don’t take some time off from your busy schedule to address the problem, then stress will just keep piling up on you until such time that it will affect your work -- which could prove to be a problem for your career or business.

It is very important for a workaholic or a busy-body to integrate proper stress management program into their daily routine to ensure that both their mind and body is up to the task of addressing the demand of work. If it's your first time to try this out on yourself, then here are some tips that will help you get started.

One Small Step At A Time

It is impossible to remove all your stress with just one flick of a wrist, and we can safely say that your mind is not equipped or prepared to handle the effort of getting rid of your problems in one go.

If you are planning to apply stress management in your career then you need to keep in mind to take it slow. Don't rush the process of self-improvement if you want to benefit from it. Start first by determining the source of your stress and note them down so you can take care of it one-by-one.

Instead of ranting and raving on your fellow workmates due to your problems, you might want to take a short break from your task and take some time off to relax a little bit. Get some fresh air or make yourself some coffee to help you calm down.

Know Your Limits

If you think that you can do anything in one sitting, then you might want to reconsider this if you want to properly implement your stress management program. Keep in mind that our body has it own limits, even if our mind can cope with the demands.

You need to realize that your mind is linked with your body and both can break down if you're not careful. Even if we are mentally capable of doing all our tasks, there is a possibility that our body is not fit enough to cope with the burden you are subjecting it to. If you push it to the limit, then you will surely feel a breakdown that might disable you permanently.

We can never deny the fact that all of us have our limits. Like our minds, our body can only take so much until it falls apart. It is a common fact that we can do anything if we set our minds into it, but we need to realize that our body should be able to cope with what we want it to do.

Your Body And Stress

Stress affects us different depending on the state of our body. The most common ailment attributed to mental stress is headache or migraine, or even dizziness from time to time. We would also feel some minor cramps, aches and pains on our back, shoulder, or in different parts of our body when under the grip of stress.

There is also a possibility that stress can affect our body chemistry as well. Too much brain activity can lead to nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, or even constipation. There were even reports that stress is attributed to a bout of ulcer when a hyperactive body produced too much acid that can abrade the linings of your organs.

There is a chance that a person might need to go to the hospital or undergo a series of medication to remedy the problem. But if you don’t take the initiative to nip stress at the bud, then you will sure to experience the same thing all over again.

Stress And Your Behavior

A person under the grip of stress tends to act rash and outside their normal behavior. Depending on the level of stress a person is subjected to, they might have trouble sleeping or might affect their sleeping time altogether. You might no longer want to sleep in the evening since you tend to think more of your problems when you lie down in bed during the quiet of the night. Unconsciously, our bodies would slowly get sleepy during the day and remain active at night.

Stress can also affect the emotional state of the person. They will either go into depression and self-pity; or give in to their rage by venting it out on everyone they see. There were even cases that stress can drive a person berserk or permanently affect their state of mind if not properly addressed.

Stress Management 101 - Coping With Your Problems

The mind is where stress starts so it is up to you to take the necessary steps to teach your mind how to cope with your problems when they crop up. Determining the source of your stress is the first step to getting rid of it.

It is essential that a person undergoes stress management to help them relax even when they are swamped with problems. You can delve into your favorite hobby to divert your mind to help it relax. Watching movies and listening to your favorite songs is also a good idea on getting your stress level under control.
