It's taken a long time but we are finally home. Since my last post in August we have moved from our little house by the lake to a little house in the country. We have cleaned, painted, stripped floors, repaired some plumbing and down sized from a 5 bedroom to a 3 bedroom home. In other words, we have moved back to the family farm. This includes, 13 fishing ponds, pecan trees, numerous barns, and

As you have read from the previous post, our spring weather was severe.  There were several days in a row when we went to the tornado shelter because of the tornado threats.  
We were all anticipating the arrival of summer and a break from the severe weather.

To be a true southerner from the United States﻿ it is imperative to know at least a little something about pokeweed.  
As a child, in the early spring, my mother and I took long walks through my father's fields. We carried a basket and a sharp knife.
My mother was looking for pokeweed. This is a perennial herb that grows well in the the southern U.S. 
I was never allowed to go alone to pick the

It happens every spring...I open the freezer door and sitting there quietly are several containers of last years garden produce still waiting to be used.

Today was the day to take those final few items and cook a great meal.

The time has come to simplify our homeschooling experience while expanding our knowledge and enjoyment!

 We were like so many homeschooling families  trying to emulate a traditional school at home. 
In early elementary years this type of learning was acceptable.  
The children were young and they needed this  style of learning. 
However, with upper elementary and High School students, it was

I have met so many wonderful women from all over the world through this blog..... Sometimes I am overwhelmed by the love of Christ that comes flowing through my screen.

Because I live on the side of a rocky mountain (hill), it is sometimes difficult to grow just anything.  A few years ago I began growing vegetables in various containers as an experiment! 
Little did I know what would become of my experiment.

Today I grow spinach, turnips, beets, green beans, pumpkin, squash and this year cucumbers, leeks, tomatoes, and a host of other herbs in my

I was so blessed by her words that I wanted to pass them along to the American Home readers. 
Sometimes it is hard to see the idols we have built for ourselves until someone else points them out. 
Today was the day I saw clearly it was time to let the idols go and trust Jesus more deeply.

Drying Squash
     Honestly if I have a vegetable or fruit that I can dry instead of canning I will eagerly go with the drying. It is so easy and you don't have to worry about the different problems with canning and there are no supplies to purchase. When drying foods most of the nutrients are preserved because only low heat is required.      I have to admit I fell into the dehydrating machine

My father was an American World War 2 soldier with General Patton's 3rd Army. 
He saw the beaches of Normandy, The Battle of the Bulge, he was there when Buchenwald Concentration Camp was liberated, and he marched through the Triumph De Arc in France only after helping to liberate the French people from Nazi rule.

GATHERING THE ROSES
The rose jar is perhaps one of the simple pleasures that all women can take joy in.
 This beautiful creation requires only a jar, fresh rose petals, and salt. 
A rose jar is quite easy to make and can carry memories of a special day for many years. 
I have seen some beautiful jars which held several gallons of petals after drying and  small sizes down to a jar which once held
