Lovely Seoul

Snow is falling in Seoul. But flowers will bloom at last.

It's the end of March. But it's been snowing heavily all day in Seoul, South Korea. I'm afraid that spring flowers might be frozen. T.T I hope all spring flowers will come over this cold weather and bloom at last.

For your reference, that movie below was taken around GangNam subway station in Seoul.

Yesterday, it was very bad. The sky was covered with the yellow sand. We had yellow sand rain all night long. But today, it's very fine. The sky was very blue.

My wife and I went to downtown of Seoul to have lunch with my brother, today. We arrived 15 minutes early in front of TapGol Park so we walked around it. Wow~ we found that spring is coming in spite of the crazy yellow sand. How beautiful those yellow buds!

We had lunch in a famous restaurant 'JiRiSan' at InSaDong. It's famous for their good foods and not using any artificial flavor enhancer. We had soft tofu stew, kimchi soft tofu stew and bean paste stew. They really taste good. ^^

There is a food restaurant 'On the 6' near HonkIk Univ. of Seoul. The name of On the 6 was made because it's on the 6th floor. The interior of On the 6 is really nice. They used Vietnamese furnitures for their interior decoration. I'm sure you think you're in a East Asia country as soon as you arrive at On the 6.

They serve some good Italian foods sucs as green salad, special seadfood pizza and steak. My husband and I enjoyed their steak. When I had a piece of steak in my mouth, it got to be melt down. It really tastes good.

It was very clody all day long. The yellow sand is really bad today. We had bad wind like yellow sand from China. It's said that sand-wind isn't good to our throat, nose and etc. Earth gets to be changed to desert more and more. I'm hearing of the sound of yellow sand-wind. It's terrible.

I hope that people protect their environment and prevent the Earth from being hotter and hotter. I just hope so.

DeokSuGung Palace in Seoul

DeokSuGung Palace is the symbolic seat of modern Korean and center of modern Seoul.

For sheer ease of access, you can't beat DeokSuGung, located right next to City Hall in the heart of modern downtown Seoul. At 6pm, amid the bell sound from its neighboring Anglican Church of Korea, the palace turns even more graceful.

It was the main palace during the DaeHanJeGuk period of late JoSeon Dynasty. After the Japanese Invasion of Korea burnt down all other palaces in Seoul, the king took over the then residence of a crown prince to stay.

The next king GwangHaeGun promoted it to a status of palace naming as GyungWunGung in 1611. GwangHaeGun then moved to the restored ChangDeokGung leaving GyungWunGung as a sceondary one.

Later, with the start of DaeHanJeGuk, Emperor GoJong chose it as his main palace. When he stepped down from the throne, the palace was renamed as the current DeokSuGung praying for his long life.

DeokSuGung are embellished with spring cherry blossoms and yellow gingko leaves in fall. Couples love to walk around the stone palace walls enjoying the unique feel of the palace.

It's very easy to get there by a subway, City Hall subway station No.2 Green Line or No.1 Red Line.

Good to walk along CheongGyeCheon stream in Seoul

There is a beautiful stream at the center of Seoul.
It's good to walk along that stream.
It's CheongGyeCheon.

It has been the popular spot to walk since 2005.
Along with 5.8km stream, there are 22 bridges and 9 fountains.

Access from many subway stations like City Hall, GwangHwaMun, EulJiRo 1-Ga, etc..

There is a good panoramic night view point of River Han

on the 9th floor of TechnoMart near GangByeon subway station.

There is a good movie theater, GangByeon CGV on 8th floor

so it's good to go to the viewing platform after seeing a movie.

I'm sure you can get a stunning night views over the River Han.

And it's better to drink some bottles of beer in Summer.

Why don't you go there?

It's the Great Bridge Olympic.

There is JamSil over River Han.

Chicken Ribs and MakGukSu

It's very enjoyable to have spicy chicken ribs and makguksu.

MakGukSu is a Korean buckweat noodle dish served in a chilled broth.

They are the local specialties of GangWon Province of South Korea.

Seoulites used to go to ChunCheon of GangWon Province to have chicken ribs and makguksu on weekends.

It takes one and half hours to go there by a car.

But there're lots of good restaurants to taste it in Seoul, Korea such as YouGaNe Chicken Ribs.

It tastes a little spicy but the more you chew the more flavor you get.

You can try buckwheat noodle which is called 'MakGukSu' in Korean.

MakGukSu is also popular in Korea.

TteokBokKi recipe - how to cook TteokBokKi

TteokBokKi is a Korean food.
Korean people, we usually have Tteok Bok Ki as a snack.
TteokBokKi is one of the most popular Korean snacks.

There're many kinds of TteokBokKi. We usually enjoy hot TteokBokKi but these medium-spicy TteokBokKi gets popular more and more such as Royal TteokBokKi, Cheese TteokBokKi, etc.

Below is the hot TteokBokKi recipe.

TteokBokKi is good to try Korean food.
It's hot but very delicious.

1) ingredient : fishcake, leek, crushed garlic, rice cake

2) boil water and add a few slickes of rice cake

3) add Gochujang, Korean hot sauce

4) add crushed garlic

5) mix smoothly

6) add fish cakes

7) add leeks

8) boil until fully cooked

9) add sesame seeds

10) taste whether it's fully cooked or not

11) done

It's very simple and easy to cook TteokBokKi.

It's the good place to see the beautiful sunset.

Bibimbap is good.

Bibimbap is a representative Korean dishes.
Jeonju is the most famous city for Bibimbap in Korea.
It usually takes 3 hours to go to Jeonju by a car.
And there're lots of restaurants in Seoul.

First, rice is cooked just right and scooped into a bowl.
Next, the prepared greens, meat, and egg are added to the rice and arranged in a colorful manner.
Red pepper paste and sesame oil are added and mixed together just before eating.

Why don't you come here and try it? :-)

Fascinated by the scenic panorama

It's new year. My wife's in-laws usually go to BoMun Temple in SeokaMo Island on the first day of the new year. BoMun Temple is a famous temple where lots of people wish their happiness and prosperity in the new year. There is a scenic view point behind Bomun Temple. We have to go up lots of steps to get there. When we go to the spot, we can see the beautiful sight and get to be fascinated by the scenic panorama. We can overlook the sea.

We love to ramble along the riverside, on the beach, in the countryside and in the park.
We always ramble hand in hand.
We can talk about lots of things.
Sometimes we don't say anything in rambling, it helps us feel each other's love.

I'm going to Malta next Jan 24th.
