COUGHING/SNEEZING [cough, sneeze] A cough releases an explosive charge of air that moves at speeds up to 60mph. Sneezing: A sneeze can exceed the speed of 100mph. When you sneeze, all your bodily functions stop--even your heart. It's not impossible to sneeze with your eyes open, but it could make your eyes feel uncomfortable due to extra pressure on them.
CRYING [tears] The reason your nose gets runny when you are crying is because the tears from the eyes drain into the nose.
EATING [esophagus] It takes food seven seconds to go from the mouth to stomach via the esophagus. Drinking water after eating reduces the acid in your mouth by 61 percent.
READING [read] Men can read smaller print than women but women can hear better.
SMELLING [nostrils] Each nostril registers smell in a different way. Smells that are detected by the right nostril are more pleasant than the left. However, smells are more accurately detected by the left nostril.
SPEAKING [voice] It takes 72 muscles to speak a single word.
TYPING [typing] You consume 110 calories when you type for an hour.

I thought I'd try something different this time. Instead of reporting on interesting websites, I'm going to answer various questions derived from the internet. I'll be adding to the list when I want to respond to thought-provoking questions.

Do you know your ancestry? What nationalities are you? My blood line is fused with French and Irish. Evidently, my grandmother’s lineage includes royalty and political officials!

If you could give the world one piece of advice, what would it be? If you are against something, do not tolerate it. I endured physical abuse because I tolerated it. Not anymore.

What is the scariest experience you've ever had? My ex husband was cleaning his rifle when it went off. It missed my three year old daughter a few inches, who happened to walk by. The bullet penetrated the glass, the balcony, a bird and lodged in a nearby tree.

What is the most beautiful image, place, thing you have ever seen? Why? If I wait to answer this question, I’ll never post it. See my flickr page to get a fast answer [http://www.flickr.com/photos/1websurfer/].

If you could confront anyone from your past, who would it be and why? I would confront myself. The guilt from wrong decisions still plague me. In order to get closure, I’d encourage myself that whether wise or unwise, if I’ve learned from them, nothing was in vain. No one has a perfect track record when it comes to decision making.

What’s something you know you do differently than most people? When I open my snail mail, I put it in a 3-hole binder with monthly tabs. I save on envelope clutter, and I can find bills and such things much faster.

Letter carrier attacked by hawk

I know that some letter carriers have an occupational hazard involving dogs (see video). But hawks?

CALGARY ~ Rain, snow, sleet and hail may not stop the mail from getting through, but dive-bombing birds sure will.
   Canada Post has suspended mail service in part of the southwest Calgary community of Bayview because a hawk has been attacking the letter carrier.
   The hawk is so aggressive it even broke a bike helmet the carrier was wearing to protect herself.
   A family of the birds is living in a tree in the community, but hasn't harassed any of the residents.
   Some people say they were told it's because the hawks think the carrier is a predator.
   Canada Post spokesperson Theresa Williams says they'll try delivering the mail to the affected 150 homes again next week.

I believe almost all children dream of possessing superhuman powers such as becoming invisible. Well thanks to a wikipedia website, I had lots of fun dreaming up superpowers I'd like to have. Here's my list:

Accelerated healing - heal rapidly from any injury, can sometimes result in the slowing of aging
Animation - bring inanimate objects to life (this would fit in nicely with my magazine)
Body part substitution - replace one's limbs or other body parts with those of another.
Duplication, physical - create physical duplicates of oneself
Flight - lift off the ground, ride air currents or fly self-propelled through the air
Invisibility- render the user unseen to the naked eye
Merging - temporarily merge two beings into a single being (hmm, I believe it's called birth)
Superhuman breath - inhale/exhale...create gale force winds or freezing temperatures
Superhuman senses - see, smell, taste, feel and/or hear more than a normal human
Telescopic or microscopic vision - magnify vision to various levels
Time travel - travel back or forth through time

You will find examples of characters who have these powers, links, and reference notes.

A South African doctor has invented a female condom that would insert teeth-like hooks on a man's penis in the event of unwanted penetration. Once lodged, only a physician could remove it. How did the idea originate?
     South African Dr. Sonnet Ehlers was on call one night four decades ago when a devastated rape victim walked in. Her eyes were lifeless; she was like a breathing corpse.
     "She looked at me and said, 'If only I had teeth down there,'" recalled Ehlers, who was a 20-year-old medical researcher at the time. "I promised her I'd do something to help people like her one day."
      Forty years later, Rape-aXe was born.
South Africa has one of the highest rape rates in the world. For protection, some women have taken drastic measures including "inserting razor blades wrapped in sponges in their private parts."

Skin tags and remedies to remove them

Are you plagued with unsightly skin tags? Here's excerpts from two excellent sites that include remedies other than the basic remedies such as using scissors/clippers and floss.

Skin Tags Home Remedy

Vitamin E: Open a capsule of vitamin E and mix the contents with crushed garlic and apply it to the skin tag. Then cover the area with an adhesive tape. This will make the skin tag fall off.

Apple cider vinegar: Another equally effective skin tag home remedy is to soak the area with the skin tag in warm water for 15 - 20 minutes, dry it, and using a cotton ball apply apple cider vinegar to it. After 20 - 25 minutes wash the skin to free yourself of the skin tag.

Another website suggests using a "far less intrusive, involves creating a mixture of castor oil and baking soda. Mix these two ingredients together to form a thick paste and apply it frequently, several times a day, to remove skin tags. Eventually, within two weeks, the skin tags will dry up and disappear."

   A little boy goes to his father and asks, "Daddy, how was I born?"
   The father answers, "Well, son, I guess one day you will need to find out anyway...Your mom and I first got together in a chat room on Yahoo. Then I set up a date via email with your mom and we met at a cyber-cafe. We sneaked into a secluded room and Googled each other. There your mother agreed to a download from my hard drive. As soon as I was ready to upload, we discovered that neither one of us had used a firewall. And since it was too late to hit the delete button, nine months later a little pop-up appeared that said, "You have male!"

* Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little 'stringy things' off of it. That's how the primates do it. (see video). Also, take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

* Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

* Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

* Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

* To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich, add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.

* For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

* Broken Glass - Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily. Or use bread.

* Squirrel Away - To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

* Reducing Static Cling - Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and .... ta da! .. static is gone.

* Measuring Cups - Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

* Foggy Windshield- Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

* Goodbye Fruit Flies- To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2' with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever! (I can vouch for this tip)

* Get Rid of Ants - Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!
