Announcing Sermon Snippets

In support of discovery, or for a recap, or simply to catch-up on one of our weekly sermons (and/or bible studies) the blog: Engaging With God is hosting a weekly snippet series. These "snippets" of text are from the recent sermon manuscript or bible study guide update.

What is a snippet? A choice snippet of text is taken from each logical section of the manuscript or study guide, which averages around 5-8 snippets for each sermon. All together, they summarize a sermon in about a paragraph of text. Each snippet has a link that jumps to the referenced section of the manuscript/study guide for deeper review. Often, (as in the case of the sermon manuscripts sections) there is a link which jumps to the YouTube video timestamp of the referenced content. Thereby, you have the choice of reading or viewing the referenced content.

So is a snippet a Tweet? If it was on Twitter it would be. By exploring the deeper-dive links within a PBPC sermon snippet, you are taken from the context of a statement, to an explanation of scripture (within the sermon manuscript or study guide), to time experiencing a contemplative sermon (through the YouTube timestamp link within the manuscript). Further engagement options also exist on PBPC.org to review further sermons within a sermon-series (pbpc.org/sermon-series), a review of all other PBPC content that is based on the same scripture chapter (pbpc.prg/bible), and even to engage with real congregants and our Pastor via our continued conversation email lists that exist for each sermon-series and bible study. So a PBPC snippet is even better than a Tweet!

Here is how to experience PBPC snippets:

Visit god.PBPC.org at any time. The snippets are listed in a chronological blog style, with topic labels added. You have the option of clicking the Subscribe button at the top of the blog to get daily emails whenever new snippets are added. (Remember to respond to the verification email sent after subscribing)

The other way to experience PBPC snippets is on PBPC.org/sermon-series, PBPC.org/bible-studies and PBPC.org/bible. As content is indexed onto these webpages, the Engaging with God blog topic labels will be utilized to link-back to the series of snippets via a simple link.

In addition to rediscovering PBPC sermons and bible study content by verse at pbpc.org/bible, explore our deep-dive web pages (PBPC.org/Acts) on each book of the bible. These present content from: BibleProject.com, Fuller.edu, as well as a list of our PBPC content series.

Each deep-dive page contains 20-25 minutes of video content and one or more PBPC sermon series or bible studies, consisting of an additional 90m+ of content.

We hope this will renew your discovery of the Word and bring additional insights to PBPC content. As PBPC.org/Bible is anchored around PBPC content, additional books of the Bible will be added as PBPC content is released therewithin. Enjoy

WHY DIGITAL CHURCH

As in-person sermons are on-hold, church carries on.

Email, Zoom, YouTube and now PBPC.org

The PBPC Digital Church effort is a series of web and online resources for the content created at PBPC for congregants and as outreach - For an online world in need of God's Word.

Pastor Chris has kept our Church community actively engaged online. Thank you Pastor. The Digital Church effort is here to enhance the reach and access to Pastors content by facilitating access after our real-time gatherings, presenting the content within a larger theme and cross-referencing it to scripture. Then also, presenting opportunities to engage with us at PBPC on this content at any time in the future; in effect, it's taking our congregations teachings and turning them into an online school for all.

Introducing: A continued conversation

As Pastor Chris carries on with interactive Zoom Sermons, with the online YouTube sermon archives, and with interactive Zoom Bible Studies and their online Study Guide documents.

The time has come to facilitate structured two-way conversations around the Pastors ever growing library of online content.

A continued conversation. As the name suggests, will not be time-bound to real-time communications like Zoom.

A continued conversation email address will be generated for each Sermon Series and Bible Study group, which will allow for (and encourage we hope) congregant (and public) participation at any time thereafter: hours, days, months later.

Furthermore, PBPC congregants become topic experts by participating during the content release (as a Bible Study participant or Sermon attendee) and if you choose to opt-in (subscribe or be subscribed) to a continued conversation on the topic, any future participant messages (even months later) would lead to an email in your inbox as a continued conversation, which you are encouraged to engage with and represent PBPC.

A continued conversation is not unstructured email communications, like person-to-person emails can often be.

As an opt-in email group, with it's own email address, all emails sent to a continued conversation email address are sent on to all group members with a [subject prefix] of the conversation and will include a message footer with a link to the PBPC online resource for the conversation.

For most continued conversations, both congregants and the public can join. This provides us at PBPC an opportunity to engage just a bit more broadly, without the burden of actively seeking to outreach.

Even join past continued conversations of older Sermon Series and reengage other interested people about the series content. As a continued conversation, the conversation need not ever end,

New email hosting at PBPC

The final step in transitioning to GSuite for Nonprofits at PBPC.org will be the transition of email hosting.

Email will be accessible via http://email.pbpc.org and will be presented within the familiar and customizable Gmail interface.

Authenticated access will be provided via a GSuite PBPC.org account create for you. This is a different authentication model than the shared password model used in the past, as this PBPC.org account is used for your individual access across GSuite software.

For group mailboxes, this means your individual account will be used to authenticate you to http://email.pbpc.org which will then provide access to shared mailboxes like office@pbpc.org, with additional settings. Alternatively, if you have a personal@gmail.com account and so desire to limit the number of Google profiles you will need to manage, your personal@gmail.com account can be provided access to shared mailboxes via http://discussions.pbpc.org and/or you can also add the shared mailbox as an additional account to check in your personal@gmail.com or preferred email client.

Alternatively, shared (group) mailboxes can be directly managed via http://discussions.pbpc.org which is the Google/GSuite Groups web interface.

So why bother -- and it is a bother.
Advantages of GSuite email hosting include superior spam blocking, access to Directory lookup against pbpc.org accounts (more updates to come on this topic), robust webmail capabilities and collaborative group mailbox access. Plus it's included at no cost in our GSuite Nonprofits account. With multiple web access methods (email.pbpc.org and discussions.pbpc.org) and yes, direct downloading to local email apps; PBPC will be free of device licensing and maintenance requirements. Authenticated access is possible from personal mobile and home-based platforms.

So going forward - rather than share email addresses and passwords for PBPC access -
invitation based onboarding is now the standard and should provide robust continuity and ease the transitioning of roles and staffing.

Discover the new website for PBPC

Which now loads from pbpc.org or www.pbpc.org

This represents a shift in the underlying technology used by PBPC as well as a new look and feel. The webhost is Google and the platform is Google Sites. Our access to GSuite for Nonprofits allows us no-cost access to the full GSuite bundle and webhosting. In using GSuite Sites, we now have a website which requires no programing or design skills to implement and maintain.

Furthermore, the new website is also rolling out with 7 supporting blogs (i.e. web journals) which will allow rapid sharing of PBPC content within context. The primary blog is PBPC Announcments

Share memories with PBPC of those we have lost

We've created a running website for remembering those of our PBPC family who have died.

You can post a memory or a photo of Gene by emailing it to InMemory@pbpc.org

The email in full will be posted, including the email subject line, and any images along with your shared memory. Refrain from replying to a email or forwarding an email for this reason.

Limited to 10MB total size - generally enough for up to 3 images. Content is public accessible though not open to search engines.

Follow-up with Pastor Chris (at this time) should you have concerns on the posted content or have a request to remove a post.

A community journal of memories can be of unexpected benefit for many and an important inclusion for all.

GSuite for Nonprofits

At PBPC we are transitioning from a classical web host and sperate email host model, to an 'enterprise class' online suite of software via Google for Nonprofits.

This will provide our church robust and easy to use online solutions, to manage our digital presence and to create a dynamic, digital community around PBPC.org.

Church leadership will be able to create endless digital communities, which reach congregants on their smart phones and web browser alike. Communications can be in the form of text -to- video, living documents -to- real-time video gatherings.

Participation at PBPC.org can be passive -to- creative. Unlike the major social networks individuals are typically driven to, PBPC.org will be an enterprise style organization, with respect for privacy from public access, but with an inclusive church community approach: to facilitate trusted communications within our church community, on our digital devices.

I look forward to posting more about the exciting use cases for PBPC.org on G Suite, as we as a Church, embrace the advantages of maintaining a digital community.
