I've been so busy with finals that I forgot the share last week's craft project for iLoveToCreate! My dad helped me make these crazy and kooky mariachi-inspired pants! Yes, I really wore them out last weekend too! Mexican spirit, style and music should be celebrated all year long, not just on Cinco de Mayo, right????

When I was in Miami at Hispancize 2013, Target was one of the sponsors. Do you know how much I LOVEEEE Target? They had a cool dance area with a DJ spinning tunes from the Billboard Latin Music Awards and were giving away these cool glasses that look like RayBans with the Target logo on them. Also, they were nice enough to send us some for the Crafty Chica Cruise that my mom runs every year. So I got a second pair!!!!

I decided to add some crystals to my shades. It's super easy, you can do it too...

You'll need a little bit of sandpaper, Aleene's Tacky Glue, Tulip Glam It up Crystals and sunglasses! Lightly sand the top of the glasses. Add a thin bead of glue and use a crayon to add a row of crystals.

Let them set until they're dry.

Now, let's talk Latin music. My mom has been playing the CD around the house and now I'm getting hooked. Not only on the artists included, but other Latina music artists too. Some of my favorite bands are La Santa Cecelia from Los Angeles and a new artist named Matt Hunter. He's like the Spanish-language version of the Biebs! Here's a video so you can see for yourself!

Sobbing On A Glittered Floor

Hey guuuuys...It's been awhile.
These past two months have been insanely AMAZING for me!

Me speaking on a social networking panel in Miami!

I traveled Miami, Florida to speak on a panel about promoting your music on social media for *Hispanicize*, had a week home, then back on the road to California for the 7th Annual Crafty Chica Cruise. After that I had a couple of hours at home (exhausted) and the very next morning I was on the road for my great grandma Carmen's 80th birthday party in a beach house in San Diego with my family!

Exciting, right?

Well, I'm home and reality greeted me with a huge slap in the face.
Finals are next week.
I'm behind on my blog and YouTube.
Negative people whom I kept pushing out of my life return.

Ugh. I know this seems completely stupid, but all of this stress came at me full force. So what do I do?

Cry.

Haha. I literally sat on my mom's glittered floor in the art room, and sobbed. I think the main reason I did this was because I was couldn't find the fabric glue for my latest craft project. "Maya. are you reaaaally crying about fabric glue right now?" It really wasn't the fabric glue. I was unmotivated with my life. I mean, I'm freaking twenty years old. I JUST got back from speaking on a panel in BEAUTIFUL Miami. I sailed the ocean with my favorite people and sang to them. Lastly, I spent a week with my family in San Diego. I have absolutely no reason to be unhappy. But I was. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for everything God gave me. I was just unhappy with myself. I just don't know where I'm going, or what I should do. Or, if what I'm doing is the right path. How do you know if something is meant to be?

You don't.

I was so focused on what I should be doing, instead of just doing. How was I going to figure out if I'm meant for something if I don't even give my 100%? That, my friends is called self sabotage. Why do we do this? Limit ourselves on purpose? It's a mystery to me, but I'm working on it. After I sobbed on that glittered floor, I picked myself up, and got my work done. I still have a buttload of work to do, but I'm taking it one step at time. As far as figuring out what I want to do? I'm just gonna continue doing. Whatever is meant to be, will be. Das it.

Here are MY tips for motivating yourself to get up and life your life to the fullest, especially during those times when you feel like crying on a glittered floor...

1. Get it out and let yourself cry like a baby for 15 minutes, then STOP. Crying feels good at first but doesn't solve any problems, you're wasting precious time that you could be making your life better!

2. Make an action list. Start with the easiest items first, so feel good about finishing them.

3. Give yourself the opportunity to try! Instead of thinking for the easy way out, break a sweat and challenge yourself to go above and beyond than you ever have before!

So I'll end this emotional whiny rant with some pictures. Okay? <3

This TBT video is from last year's spring break. I went to the Grand Canyon for the first time!! Being an Arizonan, I figured I should probably go... So, I went with some long time friends and we had so much fun. This year's spring break I didn't get to film anything, but my friends and I went to the lake! It was so.freaking.hot. Causing us to leave early and eat In-N-Out. omg yuuuuum...double double animal style burger....

HOW TO STUD YOUR FLATS!

These are my "Tell me about it, STUD." Flats. (Clever, right?) I LOVE me some black flats, but what do you do when they get scruffed up? STUD THEM! This is a QUICK and EASY project using Liquid Fusion! Here we go!

Supplies:

Studs (7mm)
Liquid Fusion
Flats
Sand Paper
Bamboo Stick

Step One: I lightly sanded my shoes in the area I wanted to glue. Next, pour some glue into a paint tray, and with a bamboo stick, apply glue on to the back of stud.

Step Two: Place stud on to your shoe. If you're unsure of a pattern, google "Studded Flats" and you'll find some ideas! For this project I did sort of a triangle, top row=6, middle=5, and bottom=4. Play around with it!

Step Three: Wait for about an hour for them to dry. After that, wear those babies out!

I also made a headband! does it match my pink streaks? So punk, right? :)

I'm officially a working musician! There. I said it.

I've been sharing my music here on my blog and on YouTube since I was 16. Throughout the years, I've performed randomly on cruise ships, festivals, parties and even on TV - not to mention all that love song stuff.

You can say I've been gigging!

This weekend I played at the Scottsdale Street Fair. I was so excited, I practiced every night, put my song list together, even planned my outfit days in advance. And then the day came and - it was such freezing and windy conditions. Did I mention I was wearing a short FLOWY dress (thank god for black leggings!).

As I watched the sound guy set up my microphones, a part of me wanted to run to the store and buy pants..but it was too late. I had to make do. I started my set and it was so blustery that not only was my voice coming through the speakers, but the wind too! Between worrying about my dress flying up, remembering my lyrics and singing through chattering teeth, I loved every second of it. I love singing and performing and am ready and willing to take the good with the not-so-comfy.

The whole point of this is that I did it! And I feel really proud about that!

Throughout the past few years I've played from super-excited crowds to bored-to-death-stare crowds. I even played a gig last summer to hundreds of people...and what happened? My speaker blew out. I had to practically scream every song. But I stayed professional and got through it. Haha.

I feel like I've finally gone through the initiation of "gigging." I finally decided to stop calling my music my "hobby" and start calling it my "job." I'm declaring this because I telling the universe that I'M READY for whatever is meant to be with my music. Granted, I've never had voice lessons, or gone to any fancy music schools, but I'm going to push ahead anyway, I have no choice because music is my passion! Me + my ukulele = True love always...

My mission? Record deal!

Recently I was interviewed on CBS Legends Radio(i'm at the 23:00 mark) and they asked me what advice I have for young musicians. I still have SO MUCH to learn and experience...but here's my advice to anyone with a dream (in general, not just music).

1. Get out there. Practice. Post videos.

2. Don't wait. I always get emails asking me how I know when I'm ready. When are you ever ready for anything? By the time you're ready the moment has passed. I live in the moment(lol..tehehehhheeehehee :p )

3. Stop calling your passion a hobby or a dream, make it your mission!

In all seriousness, I know it's scary but it'll be worth it. The more you practice, the better you'll be. You have to fail to succeed. If you're passionate about something, don't be shy about it. Go for it!!

Here's my question for you. What is YOUR hobby you'd like to turn into a job?

DIY Crystal Phone Charger

I've been in a sparkly mood lately and have been gluing Tulip Glam It Up Crystals on just about everything! Not only my iPhone case and headphones, but now even my charger. Think I'm crazy? Check out "crystal phone charger" on Etsy, Pinterest and eBay and you'll see from the listings that I'm not the only one. People are charging big bucks for these and now I'm going to show you how to do it on the cheap!

Side note - yes, I blinged my headphones too. Don't judge!

Aside from your charger, you'll need Aleene's Tacky Glue but you can also use Liquid Fusion. You'll also need Tulip Glam It Up Crystals in your choice of color, a toothpick and a paper plate to squeeze the glue onto.

Use your toothpick to add a layer of glue to one side of the charger. Next, spread out your crystals. Use a crayon or Tulip® Glam-It-Up!™ Fashion Art Tweezers™ to pick up and apply each one. NOTE: The mini size of crystals works best!

Apply your crystals one-by-one.

You can decide what pattern you like - flowers, ribbons, circles or just all random and mixed up like the one I made.

Halfway finished!

I also did the other end of the charger too.

Done! I love it, it makes me feel so Hollywood. Like, if I happened to be walking the red carpet and needed to charge my phone, I could whip this out and still feel glamorous!
