VIDEO: Dance Like Nobody's Watching

My friend Alexa (visit her blog, SwellDesigner.blogspot.com!) LOVES to dance. Seriously. She will stop what she is doing anytime, anyplace, anywhere and bust a move if you ask her too. I thought she would be perfect for a "Dance Like Nobody's Watching" video.

Of course, she was game. Here she is dancing at Downtown Disney. I filmed her and made this video so you can enjoy her skills too!

(Funny insider tip: One time when we were in San Francisco, working at Maker Faire, Alexa danced so much that afternoon that she threw up in the car ride on the way home. I know because I was sitting next to her. hahahahha! Fun times. We all love Alexa!)

DIY Crystal Nails: Rainbow Version!

I've been on this nail kick lately. After looking through my mom's art supplies I found the Holy Grail of nail art supplies - mini crystals and fruits that she bought on eBay all the way from China!

I decided to add some bling to my nails using them!

Here is the tutorial...

These are the nail crystals, they are very tiny!

And here are the little fruit pieces!

First, add a clear coat of polish on your nails, then add color.
Start again from the first nail and add a thick coat of polish. Before it dries, use a crayon to pick up a crystal and set in the wet polish.

TIP: Use different shades of polish underneath to bring out the color of the crystals, I did this because I really wanted a RAINBOW look. But you could use all black polish or all white, etc... to each their own!

Continue until the nail is covered with crystals. You can also embed a little slice of fruit!

Here is the finished look!

However, the next next I played my ukulele and the crystals came off, guess they couldn't hold up to the strings!

How to Make Shrinky Dink Portrait Charms!

This is cool way to turn your pictures into comic book looking plastic charms! Why? Why not? You can use them as ornaments or simply impress your friends..."Look I made you into a plastic charm!" Um, anyway, here is how you make them.

SUPPLIES:
1 sheet of frosted Shrinky Dinks
1 fine line permanent marker
Assorted permanent markers in assorted colors
Picture, printed at 5x7 size
White craft paint
White glitter
Clear nail polish
Embossing gun with a silicone mat OR toaster oven and cookie sheet
Scissors
Hole punch

Step one: Slip the picture under the sheet of Shrinky Dinks, frosted side up. Trace the outline of the hair, face, nose, all the details. If you want, you can use a pencil first and then go over it with the marker.

It should look like this! (This is my big bro)

Fill in with color on the frosted side! Punch a hole at the top, and shrink according to the package directions. It will shrink to about 2.5" or so.

Paint the backs with white paint,t his will make them really pop, then add white glitter, let dry and coat with clear polish. Add the ribbon through the top!

CRAFT: Naughty & Nice Dog Collars

Lady and the Tramp came out last week on DVD and it's one of my all-time favorite films! I love how the ultra pampered Lady hangs out with the streetwise Tramp and learns how to toughen up. A little bit naughty and a little bit nice.

It got me thinking about my two girl dogs - ChaCha and Bianca.

I found two dog collars that would make you think they go with rowdy dogs and I glammed them up for ChaCha and Bianca. One of the has spikes and the other says "Bad to the Bone." That way it reflects the spirit of both Lady... and Tramp too!

Here's what I did next...

ChaCha models her new spikey, glittery collar!

Here is what you need:

1 dog collar

Tulip® Fashion Glitter Bond™

Crafty Chica® Chunky Glitters™(or other fabric glitters),

Tulip® Glam-It-Up!™ Iron-On Crystals™

Tulip® Fabric Paintbrushes™

Tulip® Glam-It-Up!™ Fashion Art Tweezers™

Tulip® 3D Fashion Paint

Squeeze out some of the glitter adhesive and use the brush to apply it on the collar. If the surface is not porous, then rub it gently with sandpaper so the glue and glitter will grip. While the glue is still wet, pour the glitter all over.

Let it dry and then add dots of glue and place crystals on top of the glitter. let dry.

OK, for the second collar, I used Tulip 3D Glitter Dimensional Paint and added dots all over and then set crystals on top of the them. Let it dry. The paint acts as a glue and gives a glittery background!

24 Love Tingles in 24 Hours: Wax Your Roses!

Don't be sad when the roses your boyfriend gave you begin to wilt. Keep the buds in your vase - and your relationship - intact by waxing your roses. Not only do they look as gorgeous as that Victoria's Secret nightie you bought, they'll last a long time!

Supplies:
Double boiler (pot of boiling water with a pot on top)
Paraffin Wax
Paper towels
Oven mitts
Large wood or metal spoon
String and clip (like a clothesline)

Directions: Place the paper towels under the clothesline so the wax won't get on the floor. Heat the wax in the double boiler according to package directions. Put on the oven mitts and pick up one of the roses and insert it in the wax. Use the spoon to drip it on hard-to-get areas (like the center). Clip it upside down on the clothesline. Note: Strip the leaves ahead of time, or wax them too. Who wants a perky flower with saggy leaves? Not us!
