2) O people of faith! O people of faith! By the order of Lord Gauranga, O brothers, I beg these three requests of you: Chant "Krsna!", worship Krsna, and teach others about Krsna.

3) Being careful to remain free of offenses; just take the holy name of Lord Krsna. Krsna is your mother, Krsna is your father, and Krsna is the treasure of your life.

4) Giving up all sinful activities, carry on your worldly duties only in relation to Lord Krsna. The showing of compassion to other souls by loudly chanting the holy name of Krsna is the essence of all forms of religion.

--
Yours
Dinesh
Blog:http://dinesh-krsna.blogspot.com

via kksblog.com by hina on 2/10/12

Kadamba Kanana Swami, Cape Town, SA, 23rd Dec 2011) Lecture – SB 7.14.4

We have to collect spiritual wealth in our spiritual life. We can't just sit there. Like in the Hitopadeśa:

'The lion cannot just sleep, and wait for the deer to walk into his mouth. It's the lion who has to go out there and get it. Get that deer!'

It's easy for a while, but still you have to run for it. So like that, we have to go after things, and these are the things that support our vows. Therefore, taking vows in it self is nice but not so powerful! It's really about, what do we do next? What do we do after that? Can we get meaningful? That's really what will make a very big difference. It's not like:

'Okay, I've got the initiation, yeah!'

Okay, so you got it, so see what you can do now. How can you make it meaningful? That is very powerful. So this theme with living with vows – I like, and also I once said that, if you the follow the vows and make something of the vows, then they become a great asset! And through them you'll get great spiritual wealth! But if you don't follow them, then they will be with you and will be beating your heart, and thinking of it all of time:

'Bang, bang ….I know I should be….bang, bang……..Oh, no I can't….I'm a loser….bang, bang….bang!'

But if we make something out of it, then it will be very nice. So spiritual life is like that, since each time there is something to do, to collect spiritual wealth…to be nectar hunters, and go for advance hunting that' s little interesting, so okay explore it!

Rating: 0.0/7 (0 votes cast)

Things you can do from here:

Subscribe to kksblog.com using Google Reader

Get started using Google Reader to easily keep up with all your favorite sites

Subscribe to mayapur live classes text by email

Hare Krishna,

It looks like the transcription of the Mayapur live classes are sent over email. If we just let the immediate circumstances damage our destiny, then we are in maya….we are in illusion – it is foolish, but it is a big thing, to act so intelligent (I am saying intelligence) because in this consideration, we are looking at the ideal, and the balance between, what is realistic…..but within the safe boundaries of what is a favourable destiny – that's when our four regulative principles begin, and without it:

'dharmeṇa hīnaḥ paśubhiḥ samānāḥ,' (Hitopadeśa)

Without the four regulative principles, one is an animal! That is basically the situation. There is a difference between human beings and animals. The animals can do anything and there is no responsibility – there's no karma…………….We are not happy to see cats doing various activities but they have no karma. They get away with it, but we cannot get away with anything, and that is the situation. So we are not animals, but when we act like animals, then we are not in the same boat as the animals.

Yes, it is interesting how karma differs between different living entities. Different laws for different entities and human beings….and different law for the demigods, and like that different licences are given to living beings in different positions. So within the human form of life (whether we like it or not) there is that responsibility for our activities, and that cannot be avoided!

Rating: 0.0/7 (0 votes cast)

Things you can do from here:

Subscribe to kksblog.com using Google Reader

Get started using Google Reader to easily keep up with all your favorite sites

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/krsna/~3/qunWEEIbI98/why-do-damage-to-our-destiny-part-1.html" title="Why do damage to our destiny? In the 11th Canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam, it is said that there was a sannyasi who used to be a miser in his material life, and as a result his whole family hated him! But he was always lording it over everyone, because he had the money. They had to stay there to get some money, but they never got what they wanted and they suffered. When he became old and weak, then they didn't care for him anymore.

In the end he took sannyas, and got so many reactions from his karma, and people were just harassed him. It is said, that people would steal his danda. They would joke and laugh at him, while he was chanting. At one point, someone had passed urine upon him, while he was sitting there chanting! It was getting pretty rough, undoubtedly. And then it says in the Bhagavatam:

'That one should keep himself safe, on spiritual platform, even if beaten, insulted, spat upon or urinated upon. One should make arrangements to keep himself safe on spiritual platform!'

That is the bottom line……………………First of all just hang in there, since what is the point of conquering the world when you cannot even gain control over your life – when your own life is totally out of your hands. You preach, and preach and preach, but what will you preach? Life is a mess? At least we should be safe on the spiritual platform, and like that one must be careful. It's just like when you get out of the water, and there is a rock going into the sea…any you try to climb out on that rock, but the first few metres of the rock in the sea is all slippery, because of the changing tides, various algae, all kind of things are growing on it, and it's all wet and so on – well that is the slippery part. So one must be sure – you cannot think:

'Okay I am now in the water but still on the slippery rock.'

We need to get higher and above that level! Another example, is that if we are pulled out of the water and put onto the ship, but then we are still on a slippery deck! If we stay there, then the waves will come. When you are out there on the ship, then the waves are coming, and you can see how they crash at the beach and how hard they hit the rocks! If you are on the boat and they slam on the deck, and there is a little bit of a wind, and when they come and it is like:

'Bang!'

And they wash all the deck, as if it's a beach. So to stand on the slippery deck is risky, even if there is railings everywhere to hold onto! If it's bad weather, then you cannot go onto the deck and, if you go there then you have a lifeline – you're on the line………Therefore we should get off the slippery deck. We should be nicely situated inside. Inside – meaning a spiritual life that contains good elements of support!

Rating: 0.0/7 (0 votes cast)

Things you can do from here:

Subscribe to kksblog.com using Google Reader

Get started using Google Reader to easily keep up with all your favorite sites

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/krsna/~3/6IIil6yr_No/why-do-damage-to-our-destiny-part-2.html" title="Why do damage to our destiny? Answers by His Holiness Romapada Swami
Maharaja
You are invited to send your questions to His Holiness Romapada Swami at
iita@pamho.net with the word "Question" included in the subject line or
submit your question at http://www.romapadaswami.com/? q=feedback/Question.

Conduct and Qualities of a Devotee
``````````````````````````````````
741) What type of conduct is expected of a Vaishnava? How should the
conduct of a Vaishnava be any different from others?
Answer: Lord Caitanya, when asked this same question, replied "asat-sanga
tyaga ei vaishnava acara". This means that a Vaishnava is not attached to
impermanent things (asat); he is also likewise disinterested in grossly
materialistic persons who are absorbed in impermanent pursuits. This does
not mean a Vaishnava shuns people and things of this world. He deals with
them from a position of knowledge of their proper relationship with the
Lord, and therefore without personal attachment and without intimate
dealings with worldly-minded individuals.
Externally a Vaishnava may conduct their life as any other honest and
virtuous person. The only way their conduct is expected to be different
from others is one of qualitative difference, i.e. in their steadfast
cultivation of compassion, honesty, humility, equanimity, non-violence,
simplicity, cleanliness etc -- consistently with an internal cultivation of
doing all of this for the satisfaction of Krishna or Vishnu, as an offering
of oneself and one's life to Him.
A Vaishnava also chooses a lifestyle that reflects his/her faith and
respect towards the Supreme Lord and His devotees - they are naturally
attracted to chanting the Holy Names, respecting the Deities, observing the
holy days, eating only sanctified food (Krishna prasadam), dressing simply
etc - but how these principles manifests in their outward appearance and
conduct depends on each individual devotee.
742) What exactly are/should be the attributes of a Krishna conscious
devotee? How can a devotee be identified, by his behavior, actions, or
intents, or all of them?
Answer: Lord Krishna discusses this particular question at length in many
places in the Bhagavad-gita -- Ch 2 Verses 54-70 and Ch 12 Verses 13-20 in
particular. The intent of another person is very difficult to discern,
especially within short period of time, but a devotee can be identified by
how they speak, how they act, and particularly by how they respond to
trying situations such as success/failure, honor/insult etc, and how they
choose to act in their leisure. Note that these are the 4 questions asked
by Arjuna (BG 2.54)
Ultimately, Krishna alone knows the heart of every individual, and it is
not easy to judge who is a genuine devotee simply by external traits or
circumstances alone. However, Krishna describes these symptoms to give us a
guideline how to identify and appropriately serve persons at different
levels of Krishna conscious development.
*************************
In the Adi Lila, it is said that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeared under the astrological sign of Leo – the rising sign of Leo. So that is the Vedic astrology of the rising sign – the ascendant Leo. He was like a lion and had shoulders like a lion. He was roaring like a lion. He would enter the heart of all the conditioned souls, like a lion and drive out the material desires that were big as elephants!
So that's quite good, since it points out how big the material desires are, and how strong they are, just like the elephants who are big and strong! Those material desires that are very big and very strong, they will be driven out by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu!
Rating: 0.0/7 Once upon a time there was an Iskcon where you judged everyone! One step over the line, then you were off…….two steps over the line and if you stayed there, then you become a demon, and so many other things! We were very judgemental in the past. We had no fear at all to call a spade a spade. I started my service quite soon in management in this movement. In management you always have to judge:
'Is this right? Or is this wrong?'
So in the old days, we had no fear of telling them straight to their face. Later on we developed a totally different attitude towards management. In these matters of judging people, we used to say:
'Of course Prabhu, I understand, and it is your inspiration, expression of bhakti that you are cleaning the alter with your toothbrush!'
But maybe it's not entirely in line with the scriptures. In this way we developed a very psychological approach. A manager had to start learning many techniques. For example, emphatic listening, which is something we never used to do. We never listened to anybody, since we just used to give them big lectures! But then we changed our attitude with them, and we got into emphatic listening, which came straight from psychology…………… We learned all the gestures and went to seminars and got training, and we are doing a lot better these days:
'No….no Prabhu, it's not a problem if you can only follow one and half principle, then we understand, and you could still do devotional service. No…no, we won't condemn you! Just keep on working on it Prabhu. Alright don't feel bad, but at the end of your life, your time's up!! And you will be ripped out of your body!! And at that time, my dear friend, you will be judged….and judged like anything! And even that Prabhuji I cannot change. Unfortunately I'm so sorry, but I'll help you to deal with the shock and the trauma, of this heavy philosophy, and hard reality, so that your learning is improved.'
So in whatever way you want it – I can give it to you straight in your face. Or I can wrap it up for you really nicely, and cushy and so on, but the truth is still the truth! We may not be judgemental, but somebody else is! That's the issue. Therefore, since we are going to be judged at the end of our life, then there is absolutely no harm in sometimes being judged, but it must be done in a certain way, with love.
Rating: 0.0/7 He is always intoxicated with Krsna-prema and just a merciful glance from Him will turn anyone mad with love of Krsna. He comes to this material world in this Kali yuga to deliver the sinful persons. He is so merciful, unlimitedly merciful one cannot trace out the end of this mercy, it is unlimited mercy. He chants and does Hari-kirtan and preaches. He delivers the fallen souls here in the material world. In Bhagavad-gita it has been said, daivi hy esa guna-mayi, mama maya duratyaya. The manifestation of maya-sakti is very, very difficult to surmount. This maya-sakti is insurmountable. But Sri Nityananda Prabhu, by doing harinama-sankirtana just crushes the pride of this maya-sakti and He has shown a very easy way how to cross this material ocean of nescience. This bhakti, devotional service is like a creeper, bhakti-lata. And the root of that creeper is Nityananda Prabhu. Do you understand? So I prostrate myself at His lotus feet."
"The mula-guru-tattva, original guru-tattva is Nityananda-tattva. So by gradual descending Sri Guru has come to us which is the mercy manifestation of Nityananda Prabhu, that is Nityananda-tattva; He has come to us. So Nitaicand is both diksa and siksa-guru. The only remedy is to surrender to Visnu and always pray to be excused. One should depend only on the causeless mercy of the Lord for deliverance and not even slightly on one's own strength. That is the perfect position of a Krsna conscious person. The Lord is everyone's friend, but He is especially friendly to the surrendered soul. The simple process, therefore, is that a conditioned soul should remain surrendered to the Lord, and the Lord will give him all protection to keep him out of the clutches of material contamination.
- SB 4.7.30 Purport
Blog: www.gloriouskrishna.blogspot.com
It's difficult to be a devotee, it's difficult to follow four regulative principles, it's not easy to cut with one's previous life, it's hard to give up old habits, it's not so easy to do it- the mind will protest, the senses will protest and even though we may be walking in the dress of a vaisnava, how many times do the thoughts come in the mind, 'what am I doing here? Can I really go on with this?' Such thoughts will come in the mind of all; there is not one who is exempt, there is not one who never thinks of, 'what if I would go away?' This is the nature of the Age of Kali. So how to stay? By praying for the mercy of Lord Nityananda: 'Please forgive me, I am fallen, I have made so many mistakes and I did not do very well…if I look at my track record in spiritual life, I have blown it! I have blown it many times, so please forgive me and somehow or other help me to go forward.' If one doesn't pray like this and thinks, 'no this is not for me,' then we've made a mistake, we've made the biggest mistake. It's for us; we are that person who has not managed to do it so far. We are the one, who in spite of everything- initiations, tilak and all the ornaments that we are attired with- are not enough to free us from doubt, from the doubt to give in to the pressure of lust. Lust is so strong; it is said that lust is situated in the senses, in the mind and in the intelligence. Always again and again we will encounter lust, there is no doubt about it. And no matter how holy we appear, in dress, in behaviour, in speech, at times lust comes so close to us that we think, 'maybe I should give in.' So how to deal with these moments of weakness? How to deal with these moments of doubt- 'can I maintain such high standards? Is this for me? Can I do it?' Only by taking shelter of the mercy of Lord Nityananda. Taking shelter of the mercy of Nityananda means to take shelter of devotional service…
(Kadamba Kanana Maharaja, App of Lord Nityananda 2003)
In the Caitanya-candrodaya-nataka, Kavi-karnapura speaks about bhakti and he makes a distinction:
'There are two types of bhakti: Bhakti with nectar and bhakti without nectar'.
I think it is a good division. One can possibly make a link, such as vaidhi-bhakti and rāgānuga-bhakti. But there is already nectar in vaidhi-bhakti – it's not completely parallel. Anyway this is interesting, about bhakti with nectar and bhakti without nectar.
Obviously, bhakti without nectar is a very difficult thing, and this is maybe the big challenge that we are facing. The big challenge that we are facing is that we may not straightaway reach Krishna prem…that maybe a little high, but at least to get more taste – to have some bhakti with nectar, instead of bhakti without nectar:
'We know that it is the best; we know that we should be doing it and that it is very important; we know that if you don't follow it, then you may have to take another birth, and we don't want that. Do we? Not we don't, and we know that if you are serious in spiritual life, and we want to be serious in spiritual life. Don't we? And with that you go back to Godhead, and we want to go back to Godhead. Don't we?'
One devotee said:
"But I don't know anybody there!"
All right, okay. So we are weak in our desires. Our desire is not very strong….our desire to rise to the spiritual platform is not even there. So it's like:
'What chance do you have when you know when you don't really want it? Do you want to be a devotee?'
'Well, yes.'
'Okay.'
We need a little bit more, to somehow develop enthusiasm and really develop the desire………………. The desire to be in Krishna Consciousness just seems to be like the burning question. How to develop the spiritual desire? So how are we going to do it?
It seems to be extremely difficult. There are people who have tried for many years – year in, year out, and then, one day they throw in the towel. Apparently in boxing, if you are in the ring and throw in the towel, then that means that you are giving up! So they give up after a long time….they give up the fight. And even slogans will not help anymore:
'You know, come on….it's just one life time. It's just a few more years!'
No more life left….no more energy, and not more strength to fight! So what about that? And where do we get the desire and the strength to go on? This is all part of the burning question. The answer to the burning question is a little bit simple and probably some of you might feel that it's too simple! But let me give it anyway.
The answer is that Krishna is the all attractive! Yes I knew that some of you may think that this answer is too simple, but the point is that Krishna is all attractive, and therefore we must have the conviction, that if somehow or other if we associate with Krishna, then even we are going to get attracted one day! Although, so far we are not so much….just a little, but it's going to happen, inevitably so….one can't get around it.
If we just spent adequate time with Krishna, then attraction will automatically develop! I think that is a crucial point, because we see that truly it happens on its own! It's not that we have to do it and force this feeling ….give birth to this feeling of attraction to Krishna. No, it just automatically appears. If we simply render service, and become part of the sankirtan, and of glorifying Krishna,
either by: Singing or speaking; making an arrangement for Krishna's worship, which is all part of glorifying Krisnhna….by helping to maintain Radhadesh, or planting flowers in the garden…..whatever it is, since it's all part of glorifying Krishna…It's Krishna's garden and so on.
So if we just simply become more preoccupied in that, then we can go over that border – or what I would call through the taste barrier. Planes go through the sound barriers. So devotees need to go through the taste barriers. It's not easy, but that is the secret!
Rating: 0.0/7
