India’s First Female Comic Superhero Priya,

All Set To Spread Awareness On COVID19

The fourth sequel of the Priya’s Shakti comic book series has come a long way from telling Hindu mythological stories to addressing issues of universal concern. Priya’s Mask is based on the ongoing pandemic and how it affects the physical and mental well-being of children around the world. When the world spoke about losing jobs, GDP, rising positive cases and number of deaths; most of us didn't know how the children were reacting to this ‘mask culture’. The sudden change to homeschooling, online classes, deserted playgrounds and social distancing have sent a wave of depression and voidness in them.

Priya the protagonist with her tigress pal, Sahas, meets an eight-year-old little girl Meena in the blue city of Jodhpur. Meena misses her mother, who is a frontline worker and craves for her presence. Priya helps her in understanding the importance of frontline healthcare workers, like her mother, in instilling the power and courage during this difficult time.

Unlike other American female superheroes who are overtly sexualized and have inexplicable magical powers, Priya wins over tackling her challenges with Kindness, compassion and courage. UN Women regarded Priya as ‘Gender Equality Champion’. The augmented reality (AR) based comic story begun in 2014 in the wake of the Nirbhaya case in New Delhi (2012). Next in line to the series, Priya’s Mirror addressed the issues of acid attack survivors and life after that uneventful attack. In 2019, Priya embarked on the journey of resolving cases on sex trafficking and now Priya has shifted her character to a softer tone focusing kids who are missing out the fun in this best age of their life.

The series along with a 2-minute short film was released on December 2nd 2020. The film, which was premiered at Global Health Film Festival in London, features the voice of Bollywood actresses Vidya Balan and Rosanna Arquette of Hollywood as Sahas, Mrunal Thakur as Priya and Sairah Kabir as Meena.

It also marked a debut alliance between Priya and Pakistan’s Burka Avenger (another female comic superhero) collaborating to fight the deadly virus. “The virus does not understand or respect borders, so this was a natural synergy between both cultural heroes,” said Shubhra Prakash, the writer of Priya’s Mask. Women joining forces to save the world, could it get any more interesting!

"Through this campaign, we wanted to challenge misinformation, dispel fear, and support the health workers and others at the forefront of the fight against the virus," said Ram Devineni, the Indian-American creator of the series “All this misinformation, especially propagated through social media: things like ‘only people from disadvantaged sections get the virus’, was something we wanted to get at. The fear of the virus is as dangerous as the virus itself,” added Devineni who is also a documentary filmmaker and technologist.

Woman, her needs, her wants and her life is not just a topic
for entertainment that gets "boring" with a period of time!
Its a basic human right to raise voice against anything that's oppressing,
demeaning and not treated with dignity!

Body shaming, character assassination, catcalls and what not!
Being a woman isn't easy, or does the world make it sound like that?
From strangers to the boy you sit with in the class
don't know who's gonna caress your butt at any cost.
But if you scream or complain, "Its all your fault"!

Enough is enough!!

but why do all women have a terrible story to tell?
Her Husband beating her up black and blue,
her guy-friend invading the space of hers,
Rapes and acid-attacks, death threats to forced suicides!
Like the pain of bleeding every month isn't enough!!

An Ode to the beauty of Womanhood!

Thamburati grew up from being her father’s little princess to her father’s huge Prarabdha(burden). She is high maintenance, they said. Getting her educated was like giving the sword to the warrior, and the world is scared of a weaponed warrior. Few killed her before she saw the world, few killed her after, but her existence is the source of life. She will be born through her own kind, she will make more of her like a garden of flowers spreading the fragrance of all kind, She will ensure the perenniality of life- after-life.

she is innocent yet fierce, patient yet adamant, strong yet feeble, she is Agni-the fire! The creator, the maintainer, the destroyer! Thamburati isn’t the one who make apple pies for Thamburan who worked nine to five, she had her own magic spells to keep her life going without a sigh. She is incredibly beautiful with stretch marks - each stroke telling a story of her growth, her uneven skin- which wasn’t soft as clouds of the heaven, or her feminine voice- which isn’t as lovely as the first rain over a million years. Cause her beauty isn’t to meet anyone’s definition or demeaning eyes.

Her lovely limbs were that of any woman- which had hair, tan and scars. Her navel- a thesis I could write on that! Her bosom could be saggy or not, but always remains as the god’s best work of art. Her eyes-within which resides the solutions of what you are looking for. Her smile- that tickles the insides of your heart. Every cell of her body is a poetry of its own, but not all are a fan of sophisticated poems. You can only assume or apprehend a line or two, which may or may not be true!

Few try to read, but poems are to be felt! Moreover, Poems are not meant for everyone to deal with. It’s just for the ones who could dive the depth of her soul, solve the mysteries and find the gravity of what’s pulling you towards her, a paramount force unknown. A perfect blend of peace, hope and happiness like a midnight bonfire set in the cold crept night up in the mountains to clear out fog of despair. She cloud be light enough to flow with the wind, as strong enough to burn everything in the flow of wind!

Mouna Ragam: A movie that you shouldn't miss watching!

Movies twirl the ocean of emotions in us, don't they? A great movie definitely makes our day and one such movie is Mouna Ragam - a timeless piece of magic by Mani Ratnam. This 1986 Tamil classic tale is one of kind and I will tell you why!

Days when movies mostly spoke only the male's perspective, days when women protagonists' major role was the disciplined homely girl or shy girlfriend who appears only when a sudden song burst out of nowhere in the mountains of the north, where he is in his full suit-coat and she is in her undergarments dancing like diva only to vanish after that! I used to wonder what was her role in the whole movie? Why is she playing such a dumb character? Did the original script had a part for her or was her role an unnecessary creation to lure the audience in!

Mouna Ragam stood different from those! It tells the story of Divya (excellently played by the beautiful Revathi) a young college girl who is naughty, daring, adamant, unapologetically demanding just opposite to how a "woman should behave" agenda of the usual cinema culture. We immediately fall in love with her innocence and quirky cute actions so did Chandrakumar, a decent young man who is an acquaintance of her father from Delhi.

Divya purposefully comes home late all drenched in rain silently making clear her rejection of the idea of marriage and expecting the groom and his family, who came to see her, to have left her home by then. But to her surprise, they waited and even after she confessed her unwillingness to get married, Chandrakumar tells he likes her (Well, free-spirited pretty girl is a good catch!). Her family situation and poor dad's health forced her to get married to him. Convincing her is not an easy task, a heart attack, angry siblings and crying mother pleading her to death made her to giveaway her reins and marry an unknown man.

She is married off to Delhi, though her heart was still craving for her long lost love Manohar, a college romance that didn't end the way she expected it to be. Her anger and frustration are made clear to Chandrakumar and she is not sorry about anything (Why should she be?). She doesn't let him touch her and snaps back harshly to every kind words from him. Living in an unknown place with an unknown man, she isn't tamed of the situation rather stands her ground and asks for a divorce when her husband lovingly asks, "What shall I get you as our marriage gift?" (Dope!)

Chandrakumar is too good to be true kinda man, probably the kind that exists only in the fictional world. Or can we just say a man who loves his woman wholeheartedly?

How a love story weaves between these two souls is what Mounaragam tells us. A pure bliss!
It makes us cringe, cry, crave and fall in love that's blended with a clash of ego, impish grin and funny pranks! Illayaraaja's music is the icing on the cake in this moving bringing shiver down the spine and elating a whole new experience of life!

6.Saint John’s Church

Built around 1852, the church becomes one of the remnants from the British era nestled among the deodar trees in the wilderness. Dedicated to John, the baptist, it is also the resting place of Lord Elgin General- Governor and Viceroy of British India. The authentic neo-gothic architectural style and the Belgian stained glass window, which was gifted by Lady Eglin, make this holy place a major tourist attraction. Yet another trekking point, covering the Dhaulardhar range 12 km from Mcleodganj, Miniakiani pass is the favourite for most backpackers. The travellers can enjoy the panoramic view of the northern region and get in the first-hand contact with region-specific birds and other wildlife attractions. The journey through this pass is like that song you put on repeat mode. It’s a feeling that should be felt in person! It’s better to say no to the Minkiani pass trekking during monsoon as it becomes not-so-trekker-friendly!

8. Masroor Rock-cut Temple

Mind-Blowing intricate craftsmanship by ancient artists in sculpting a monument from monolithic rock piece is just speechless. As the name suggests, it is a 15 temple complex built around the 6th or 7th century but got damaged during the 1905 earthquake. The temple displays a perfect blend of man’s creation and nature’s beautification. Shrine Pool of the temple is kept pristine and its believed a dip in this pool washes away your sins, making it a pilgrimage spot. The Masroor rock-cut temple is a vision to behold and the journey to this destination is pure joy in itself!

Photography is prohibited inside the temple, so keep your cameras safe inside your vehicle parked in the parking lot.

A museum of Tibetan culture and tradition, Norbulingka Institute quenches the thirst and curiosity in people about Tibetan culture. Built-in their traditional style, the colourful institute with beautiful gardens and well-maintained fountains, preserves ancient Tibetan paintings, statues and techniques in creating them. They also house and create a source of income for qualified Tibetan refugees and conducts workshops in enlightening about their art and craft to the interested visitors keen for knowledge.

The Hummingbird Cafe inside serves the best deliciously healthy food and the momos there is

much recommended from my side! The cafe is decorated in Tibetan style with paintings depicting Tibetan folklore!

You can also shop from their flagship store wherein you find everything authentic Tibetan.

A one day tour to visit the lesser-known facts of Kangra valley is held by the Institute with one among them as a guide. Interested tourists can take this chance to explore the place better.

Shopaholics will fall in love with Mcleodganj market where you find a variety of Tibetan handmade products. Keep in mind you carry cash and not the card. Also, dive into the world of mouthwatering Tibetan street food which makes you feel, coming back for more! The market lives as an embodiment of Dharamsala’s rich culture and skilled craftsmanship.

The one where the F.R.I.E.N.D.S finally reunited

Waking up to Jennifer Aniston's post on Instagram stating " It's happening" I jumped in inexplicable joy! ' Could I BE anymore happier!!' A reunion is all that I wanted for years. A reunion is all that we wanted for years. Right?

A 1994 magic of 10 seasons that still hasn't lost its spell on making us genuinely laugh our lungs out making us fall in love with each of the characters to the fullest is coming back! I have been binge-watching the series, again and again, now that I have lost count on how many times I have gasped, each time like the very first when Ross said: "I, Ross, take thee, Rachel", breaking Emiley's heart!

Be it Chandler's touches of sarcasm, Joey's love for food, Monica's perfection and tidiness, Phoebe's iconic songs, Rachel's eye for fashion, Ross being the divorce force or the lover of elderly or even better the Mother kisser 🤣! There were many things to learn from them and we did learn a hell lot of things from them! Didn't we??

To live life happily the way it is without compromising who you are and to be there for the ones who are there for you!

To be a hat even if the rest of the world wants you to be a shoe!

To be a man and stop calling the girl you played around with! (Well, not recommended)

To believe in love and find each other's lobsters.

Smelly cat has been everyone's favourite pop song, Phoebe did deserve a Grammy for it! Her weirdness and casual cool attitude towards her past, which anyone else would have died crying, make her a sassy queen, her sexy voice during cold, her void relationship with her twin sister Ursula, her playfulness make her quite a naughty little lovable kid! Yet those words of her's while parting with her triplets showed us a different side of Phoebe! Phoebe who cries, who feels pain, Careless Phoebe who actually cares!
If Princess Banana hammock could find her Crap bag, then let me tell you to hold on to your weirdness. Only then you will find YOUR weirdo!

Though it is 'Smelly Cat ' that deserves a Grammy, it is 'Little Black Hair' that stole my heart!

There could be a million reasons why you love Joey and chandler's special bond! The bromance is so strong that joey had his own 'Joey room' in Monica-Chandler's new home in Westchester County, New York. Such pure friendship is a blessing! Joey could get his girl(s) with his sexy voice and impish grin at 'Hey, how you doin' ? ' but Chandler had to go through some Janice before Joey had his 'in London' shock and Phoebe screamed 'My eyes, my eyes'. Their innocence and playfulness got us all into their world, where we found catharsis from our boring life of depression and loneliness in Joey's silly acts and Chandler's retort with sarcastic comments.

There are n- number of events where F.R.I.E.N.D.S made us all boisterously cachinnate, and when it was the final goodbye where they all left the keys behind at Monica's apartment we did cry (at least didn't your eyes go moist? You stone-hearted un-cryable -person!!) A lot of us found happiness through clicking the replay button. We made jokes with our friends with reference from F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
And we kept the 1994 David Crane and Marta Kauffman's creation alive till date!

May 6, 2008, was the end of an era!

Is Joey still backpacking across western Europe? , Are Ross and Rachel on a break again? , What's up with Chandler & Monica 's kids? Is their parenting skills good enough?, Did Phoebe come up with Smelly cat version 2.0 or is she pregnant with mini- crap bag?

I hope we are gonna get answered for all our queries as the unexpected yet much-anticipated reunion of this epic 9O's sitcom has been officially announced to be streamed on HBO Max when it launches in May.

PASSION OR A HOBBY?

Have you ever been so much passionate about something?
So damn passionate that you delay & deny sleep and food for it!

Well, I am pretty sure we all have one. Few of us have discovered ours and few of us yet to kindle our self!

For a long time, I had a confusion understanding the difference between what a passion and a hobby is! 'Passion is different from your hobbies. It's not just what you do when you have nothing else to do. Passion is you defining your life doing something.', they say! But my little brain often used these two words as a synonym. I came to understand what exactly a passion is through one of my close friend and yes, she has an interesting passion!

This blog is about my friend Annlet (Nope, she didn't pay me for this 🤣). I know her since my first year of college and finding her without a sketchbook and pen is like finding tiger milk in the town we live in! ( If you get my reference from Tiger King by Kalki, I think you can picture it well).
She loves sketching. I used to wonder, can anyone be obsessed with anything so much!!!
Be it a train journey, you will find her sketching the grandma in the window seat; be it waiting for food in a random cafe, you will find her sketching the couples who found themselves a private corner far from anyone's attention. ( Nah, She doesn't care about their approval!)Be it a free period in class, be it a rough boring day, be it a happy lucky day, yes you guessed it right! Annlet will be with her Sketchbook!

Initially, being the 'I can't draw a shit ' type of person, I was not able to understand the addiction my friend has. But as her number of sketchbooks kept increasing and I finally flipped through a few of them to discover myself in a magic land of doodles!

Each stroke had a meaning and each curve had a wavery movement, together it painted a beautifully detailed image. Her passion for doodling was so-so real, that anyone could enjoy looking at them, trying to find out secret codes hidden in them.

What inspires her to create such intricate doodles could be a question but when you watch her doodle with her headphones on, her eyes focussed narrowly down to it, right then you find a person who is lost in creating an artistic world of her own!

Her doodles are images and scenes that held strong feelings in her heart. Her interest in Hindu mythology, the fierceness of Theyyam, the beauty in decayed flowers and colourful things that surrounds her becomes her subject to doodle upon. Soon she came to be known as 'The Doodle-muniamma' among our friends. Being a textile design student her passion found ways to showcase itself in her college assignments as textile prints and designs. And her style of doodling created a trademark for itself.

Annlet is a good singer, she sings for us when we need some entertainment or motivation. She is also a retrophile and a loving innocent soul. Her hobby is to listen to music and sing along while her passion was doodling. I that she was passionate about doodling from the way she explains what doodling means to her. It was as important as oxygen for a soul drowning in water!

A hobby is like a crush you have and passion is that one and only love of your life!

Ever wished to know how you looked when you were just born! Ever wished to know how happy your parents' faces were when they had their first glance of you!? That blissful moment is something everyone wishes that they knew and that's exactly what Jo Roberston brings to the world!

Jo Roberston goes by the name Lillian Craze in her work world which she sees as a dedicated divine job than just a normal business! She is an experienced birth photographer and doula from South Wales, UK.

Being a passionate Street photographer, I had always given a soft corner for black and white photographs. They speak the truth, they are the true colours that bring out genuine human emotions in a photograph. I had no knowledge of birth photography until I found out the southwales_birthphotographer on Instagram! Her insta feed is lit, I must say! The pictures were goosebumps givers! Each of them was unique and had a story to tell! It had emotions of pain, pleasure, love, care, empathy and a huge lot of happiness. The aesthetic and natural beauty in them is so healing and make every woman wanna rejoice the womanhood in them.

I couldn't stop admiring Jo's work! Her clicks weren't just photographed but I could so much feel the level of involvement she has given in, to get the perfect shot! The composition, the moments, the candidness, the lighting, each and everything was just beautiful!

These photographs will take you on a journey of two loving souls building a family. Their anxiety, their pain, their cheers, their calmness, their anticipation, their excitement looking forward to the day their loving little child will be born! The godliness in a woman is brought out through pictures by Jo. The joy and immense pleasure of having your child in your arms could be inexplicable but these pictures will make you feel those emotions sound and loud!

Birth of a child is the birth of a mother. And Jo has captured every element of it. The magic of motherhood in the beauty of birth is always praised, but Jo here hasn't forgotten the precious moments of a father with his little baby, 'cause it's the day a father is born too! The lovely moments of a husband and wife during this journey of life is highlighted in such a way that these pictures will be treasured in your memory forever and it tells you why the birth of a child is the birth of a beautiful family.

I can only wonder how much sacrifice Jo would have made to be there, not missing a second, not caring if it's a day or night, being with these amazing families giving them their space yet capturing the best of their emotions! How dexterously dedicated she has to be, to support, care and give them the memories of eternal bliss! And when you see through it, it's the magic of motherhood! Jo is a wonderful mother, and it's that charm and that greatness she tries to bring in every woman she connects with! And it's with that wondrous passion she brings life to every photograph! And that's the magic of motherhood in the beauty of birth!!

So, planning on having a beautiful family? Wondering how it would feel to have your baby close their fist tightly around your finger. THE REVOLUTION BY MICRO-VIDEO CONTENT

Just like anyone who saw the 10-sec ad launched by Facebook, the Thumbstoppers did grab my attention and conveyed their stories in the best possible way. No wonder they are a huge hit in the internet world now!

Well, as we know these stories are something we already have heard one or the other way, but what makes the Thumbstoppers stop our thumb from scrolling down our mobile screen is the timespan they have used to convey and create an impact with such intensity.

The Z generation doesn’t have time nor patience to sit through an entire one or two-minute video advertisement. We want it fast, we want it easy. Keep that element of surprise but not till we lose the spark of it! Every brand has a story but youth here aren’t interested in your brand story if it goes never-ending!

I remember those times when my grandma’s stories were the only entertainment when the power cut turns my home into a boring zone. And I believe most of the people of my time would have loved the stories with exaggerated emotions and dramatic endings that their grandmas would have told them. We had listened to these tales with at most concentration, not missing a second, because you know, golden words aren’t repeated! But kids of these days won’t understand this, they binge on their phones when the power goes down and definitely won’t have enough patience to listen to their granny tell a made-up story! Neither do we, these days!

Remember using a basic cell phone where you have to click a button thrice to get the letter c, remember that phone where the internet speed is buffering? But that world has changed now! We may have patiently waited, but this generation has got us everything in click of a second. The evolution of phones from 2G to 4G has taken away the buffering time, where our eyes fixed on the circle rolled till ‘loaded’ showed up, understanding the value of time. Thus 4G Youth won’t have a 2G Oldman’s patience and attention span. Current studies do state that the human attention span has dropped low, shorter than a goldfish’s. Understanding this current trend micro-video content is creating a revolution by attracting a bigger market of today’s youth. A great content conveyed in a short span of time can and is creating masterpieces! In just 10 seconds, these videos make people, laugh, think, react! In just 10 seconds it enlightens and empowers. And it’s all done taking just 10 seconds of a person’s valuable time!

With the change in consumer behaviour, advertising agencies have seen beyond the conventional advertising perspective recognizing the shorter attention span of smartphone users and giving them the visual treat in the speed they want, in the ease they want and in every other convenience they want! And this is why micro-video content has such a large reach and reaction from the public.

The essence of a story is always in the climax

and if you can’t hold your audience till the end, it's a failure

and that’s where micro-video content

come as a rescuer, creating a revolution!

Gender Stereotypes around the colour 'PINK'

Is your Gender Pink in colour?

Pink has been the comic sans of colours for a long time. A colour associated with everything not so serious and yet so fun. Pink being a strong and vibrant colour has been associated with boys for a long time. The carefreeness, the dominance, the freedom to play around yet not to be blamed is the personality of any boy, or can we say the hue pink?

So when did pink became a colour for girls? When did the colour blue, the colour which stands for caring, honesty, delicate and dainty, and everything we associate with femininity became the colour for boys? Or is there all just in our minds or a stereotypical vaccine that we inject in the fresh minds of kids who didn’t know that we hypocrites have gender-differentiated colours too.

Let’s now look at what the youngsters of NIFT Kannur think about this! Breathing the air of fashion around, are their opinions on the colour pink stereotypical or not?

Students of NIFT, Kannur did have mixed opinions. But the beauty is in the fact that most boys do like pink than girls here!
For some reason, their opinions did contradict my personal thoughts on pink which I brought to you in my blog before. It's funny how this world is run by stereotypical thoughts and gender differentiating everything that's seen and felt.

This reminds me of the difficult time I had while learning the language Hindi where curd, milk, water, oil, coal are pulling (masculine) and names of languages, scripts and books are sthriling (feminine). These had exceptions too. I still can't differentiate most of it and thus can hardly speak the language.No, I have nothing against the language but just telling how we humans tag everything into two worlds of male and female.

Pink, a colour for girls they say... 

Often we hear the society associate the words weak, fragile, soft, humble,   kind,  caring with women. They gave the colour pink these characters and tagged it to girls. 

Right from birth, we see the differentiation where boys get things, from toys to socks for their tiny feet in blue while girls get them in pink. 

Well, my problem is not tagging humans in different colours. Yes, colours do have different personalities and our human mind does connect with certain colours which we emotionally get bonded too. But my problem here is the hatred towards pink that most people have, thinking it’s a soft and weak colour just because it's associated with girls'. Boys who like pink, mostly do not admit it fearing being mocked at for liking something that’s supposed to be girls. On the other, blue though tagged with boys, is a universal colour which everyone likes to wear.   That’s stereotypical! Don’t you think so?

Pink is strong, pink is bold. Pink is not just for the kind and sweetheart, but for the boss lady and badass too...

DIRECTIONS OF CHANGE

Fashion is ever changing. The drastic changes in fashion is what makes it interesting and thus has a need to be studied. Now , the question arises ,where does this change come from? who all are affected by this change? Does this change have any direction?

The answer to it is ,yes! Fashion has direction of change which is also called the theories of fashion. Fashion shows a movement from different social classes of the society. It could either hit a runway fashion inspired from the street style or celebrities’ style which could encourage average middle class youth. The directions of change could thus be penetration of fashion across different status!

Trickle - down theory: Who doesn’t want to look like a star , like a fashionable aristocrat . This is the basic idea of trickle-down theory! The need to look high-class by the people falling under the bottom of social hierarchy make them copy the style of those above. The fashion gradually trickles down and eventually gets adopted by the commoners . We try to copy the style of our favourite heroes in the movies, this could be the best example of trickle down as how the fashion travels from the big screen stars to people who admire these stars. This is the oldest theory of distribution and Vebelen coined the term in 1899.

Trickle - across theory : This theory shows horizontal movement across all social status . Here fashion doesn’t discriminate people on their social status, what the high income people wear, the same or little different are worn by the people in the lower income group where the product is available in cheaper prices. This is also called the mass market theory as the fashion is accepted by the mass and the market is open for all social economic group of people. This was introduced by Robinson in 1958 ignoring the market segments.

Trickle - up theory : The adoption of fashion from the streets and people belonging to lower level of social hierarchy by the ones above them in the hierarchy is trickling up of fashion. The movement is from bottoms-up, from the streets to the runway! The subculture Punk, Grunge and Gothic looks also inspired the people of higher income level and hit the runway fashion different times. Its the newest of the theories and one example could how the t-shirts initially used by laborers as a practical undergarment is now universally accepted as a casual wear.

Inspirations has been coming from everywhere to hit fashion in different directions. Its amazing how the world of fashion has been evolved into a diverse field of trial and error counting up on the classes in the society to come up with something new, weird ,crazy as being absurd has become totally normal !

An Introduction to Fashion and its Key Elements

The Z-generation is so specific about being in trend, that if one is lagging behind the fast-fashion world they are actually scared about their acceptance in the society! I have been there once. But time has thought me that we can never go out of style!

Fashion can be anything ,confining fashion only to what you wear can be totally stupid! There is Fashion in the way walk with your heels, find matching cushion covers to that of the curtains in your home or even stylizing your little brother’s hair!

Fashion could be identified as an interesting manifestation that has mass acceptance and it’s the mother of trend , style, fad and classic. Now, how are these little kids of fashion? Lets’ see..

Trend is basically what’s the heat of the hour. In fashion a style that is in trend ,is a style that is currently popular among all. What’s trending today need not be the same tomorrow, what is trending today can re-appear as a new trend with little modification later too. The hoop hearing is something that you see in every girl’s ears these days, so we can say the hoop earrings are in trend. The vinyl bags are out and structured shaped bags are in trend now.

The way you carry out your outfit/ uniqueness is your style. Style could be very personal or inspired. It’s how one individual presents him/herself in the society. A shawl could be styled in different ways. It could be worn around the neck, on one shoulder, or tied upon the head like a scarf ! love how Priyanka Chopra Jonas never fails to impress the word by her style!

By definition ,short term lived fashion is fad.

Fad is simply when people are mad about a trend which vanishes quickly. The harem pants appealed a group of people and was young guys’ fad for a time.

Few things never go out of style .They are always in fashion ,in trend and we call them classic . Classic clothes also known as the timeless clothing and it includes formals, saris, denims, cardigans made of materials that with-stand the toll of time like cotton, linen, wool and silk. Elegance, Grace and standard comes together in a classic outfit. You pull out a pair of denim jeans and a white shirt accessorize it with goggles and never worry to fall behind trend cause its classic !

Design plays a major role in all of these. Each and every element of Fashion that interests our eyes is a part of design. Fringes, patterns, sequences used as a design elements add on to the value of fashion in the market . And sometimes the change in designs in the same silhouette can set a new trend all together!

So ,you are always in fashion. The way you stylize yourself is your unique identity and you can never go wrong about that. Few may like it and few may not, Just like how the low-cut pants were adored a bunch and criticized by the another group of people.

What matters the most is how you feel yourself wearing it. Are you confident? Are you comfortable? Are in your happy place? If yes, then just don’t care what the world has got to say! May be you could set a new trend that may trickle-up to the Run-way .

From Window to the Aisle Seat

Travelling could be fun,

Travelling could be hectic,

Travelling could be boring,

Travelling could be enlightening,

Travelling could be a jukebox of everything regardless of where you are travelling to or how far you are travelling to! I had one such trip where I was flying back from Ahmedabad to Kannur. There aren’t any direct flights so I had a transition from Ahmedabad to Mumbai and from Mumbai to Kannur. It isn't a long journey if you ask to any wanderlust- travel freak person who finds no trips long enough! But this journey is long enough for a student who didn't sleep doing her assignments the previous nights and had to wake up before the sun this day so that she could travel from Baroda to Ahmedabad airport and from there on...Well, in simple words it was a long journey for me. Though I couldn't eat anything in the morning other than a glass of chai, I had enough energy to try not to faint! I was starving. And the price of everything in the airport stopped me from feeding myself! My first flight was delayed by an hour and I was already cursing everyone I passed by.

It took an hour or so to reach Mumbai, but it felt even shorter as I slowly fell asleep watching the clouds take different forms as if it had stories to tell like I got to tell you! I was thankful I got the window seat. I always admired the window seat and a trip by any means without a seat near the window has been a great failure in my past few experiences. Flying in economy class has always been boring (I can’t tell you how boring the other classes are, as I have got to travel only in this!) If boring was a person, even he would have been bored of boring others in an economy class flight journey! And staring through the window, watching the clouds running nearing you or the sight of big buildings and tall trees as colourful dots is the only way of escape as it makes me feel like I am in the top of the world. Sometimes it’s the sunset that steals my heart. I find much pleasure in watching the sky change into different moods of colours and the sun slowly going down while you are still there up above! Like all the theories of Science hits the rock-bottom of nothingness! The sky never fails to impress me. It either turns me into a romantic poet or a hedonistic writer and that’s why I love the window seat so much. It is the door that opens me to my inner soul.

Though I couldn’t decode the cloud stories I had a sound sleep which was very much needed! I promised myself to play the cloud game on my flight to Kannur. I would also get to see a beautiful view of the full city when the fight takes me to the sky! ‘ How beautiful will Kannur look from up there!’ I was really excited and my imagination took me to different places! I even had my notepad ready to scribble some poems or thoughts that the sky would tell me.

On boarding, I walked inside looking for 15F, my seat. I realized someone was already sitting there! This doesn’t happen usually with me . I had pre-booked my window seat like always. How could they sit there, in ‘my seat’ !! An old granny was sitting in my seat with ‘he -who looked like her husband’ right next to her. I kept my baggage in the overhead cabin provided, took the vacant aisle seat so that the queue behind me could pace forth. I asked the grandpa sitting next to “which is your seat number?” He had a smiling face. He spoke with a ‘I am so cool’ swag, “15D and 15E”. I then told them that D is the aisle seat and E is the middle seat and F is the window seat(which is freakingggg Minneeee!!!!- My mind shouting inside). The grandpa looked at me like he didn’t understand what I said , so I clarified to his confused expression “ The window seat is mine” ! I asserted the fact in a polite way. He looked at me and said, “Oh” and he looked at the window and never turned to my side again. The granny all this while was looking through the window! She glanced once at me while I was talking with the grandpa. The flight took off, the air hostess doing the usual gestures -giving the warnings, showing where the life jacket is, pointing to the fire exit -in case of fire and all the passengers didn’t bother even to give a glance. Everyone’s eyes wandered everywhere clearly ignoring the existence of these beautiful ladies teaching to save ourselves. The grandpa next to me kept on making some ‘cling-clich’ sound, I saw him having a hard time trying to fasten his seat belt. The grandma helped him and silently scolded him ordering him to zip up his pants. My inner mind giggled, Did he just walk all the way from the checking point till boarding with his trouser ’s zip wide open? Maybe or maybe not, but he still had his smiling face on and listening to them I got a smile on my face too. I got settled on the aisle seat, I didn’t want to bother this old couple anymore! I found them cute, innocent and funny!

The grandma continued staring back through the window. At times she would point her fingers to some place and tell grandpa something, both of them would have a nostalgic smile and they would stare at whatever they were seeing without a blink.They would giggle, have silly fights , hold hands romantically. It was very nice to just look at them together. They were better travel partners than the clouds were to me. The grandma didn’t sleep the entire flight, it was like she had a better connection with the clouds than me. I felt happy giving them the window seat. Maybe they deserved it more than me . I didn’t know when I fell asleep but when I woke up we have already reached Kannur. It was captain Ravinder on the board and we were landing in 15 minutes or so and Kannur was 32 degree Celsius hot!! The grandma didn’t stop looking through the window yet.

After reaching Kannur I saw them again standing near the baggage belt. I slowly went near them, started a small talk which I didn’t dare do all these hours in flight. They got their bags and were about to leave. I asked my final doubt which was bugging my mind for quite a long time. “ Was it your first time in flight? You guys seemed to enjoy the flight really well!?” I said with an innocent smile on my face for which he replied with the same smile that he always had, “ The last flight”.

I never saw them again and I will never get to ask them what that really meant ‘ The last flight’. I didn’t know why I felt teary, but my eyes did dilate a little more than usual. What did the grandma look through the window? Was she enjoying her Last flight? Was that nostalgic smile a sign? How will I be on my last flight? Will I ever know when I will be on my last flight? Will I get a window seat then? Or will some college girl give me hers? That one flight opened up a new door of thoughts. Thoughts of life and how short it is!Thoughts of love and how divine it is! Thoughts of humans and how mysterious they are! Also, I realized its not always the window seat, even the other side has stories to tell. The aisle seat stories!

Our Black is Beautiful!

Shopping never gets tiring for souls like mine. The range of choices in each category of garments makes me wanna try on all of them, but most of the time I am too lazy to try on also I hate the trial rooms for some reason (which I will tell you in my blog which is yet to come) and end up buying over-sized or clothes that hardly fits me. On this particular Sunday, I was looking for some formals for my Jury wear and ended up in Louis Philippe. The entire store was lit and they had this mannequin-torso wearing a cool shirt with amazing prints and motifs on it as their centrepiece on their million dollar table. Later on I got to know from the salesman that their current theme for visual merchandising is 'African Safari'. He also told me that those motif designs are inspired by Dashiki. I nodded like I knew Dashiki from school (With "Ohhh Dashiki !!! My 8th Grade classmate" walla expression on my face) . On my way back home I surfed on the internet on who or what dashiki is and it opened my eyes on how a world event could influence fashion, set trends and add emotions cum values to one's clothing!

The 1960s witnessed the result of years of suppressed anger, tears and discrimination of African Americans in America - ‘The Civil Rights Movement’. This was a non-violent protest for their equal rights and to express their pride as African Americans and to put a full stop to the years of discrimination against them.

The Africans who were bought to America as slaves during colonization were ill-treated, racially discriminated, their hairstyle and traditional clothing style were mocked at and were not given equal rights that the Americans had. The Africans expressed their protest not just in by making political statements and forming parties but by their dressing style too.The Black Panther Party formed for self-defense and possible abuse against blacks wore all black cloths. Black leather jacket,black shoes,pants , beret intimated the police and they stood out as a black army for themselves. Their attire gave them the confidence and respect that they wanted.Many other commoners took in pride by wearing their traditional kente and dashiki clothing (Yes ,yes..My friend from 8th grade turns out to be a v- necked bright motif flooded kurta like dress.) connecting them with their heritage.The kente born in Ghana has different vibrant colours each one depicting a meaning and Dakshiki from Nigeria has different tribal prints and designs telling the artistic talents as well as the cultural extravagance of Africa. These styles soon trickled-up to reach the big screen cinemas where heroes are seen wearing this unique clothes!The hairstyle of their's which was being mocked became the trend of that time all of a sudden. Advertisements and magazines showed African men and women in beehive bushy hair or braided long hair . The promotion of Afro hairstyle along with the ‘Black is Beautiful’movement made more African Americans find pride in their natural features and embrace their uniqueness.

The heat of the hour was accelerating, many empowering and many braking themselves free, giving themselves the right that they should have had. Flori Roberts, an African American woman started a cosmetic company exclusively for black skin tone . Fashion journal for professional black women, ‘Essence' magazine began covering 'fierce, fun and fabulous’ topics creating a spark in every reader and thus giving in the strength for every black girl’s dream come alive!

Dear cat,

Save yourself from this human world!

.....................Lost Hopes...................

I was walking on the streets of Mumbai ,lost from the group that I came with, bearing my camera looking around for some inspiration. The Azad maiden was crowded like always, people pulling and pushing ,eating and wasting,screaming and shouting, singing and lovers loving.This place famous for its street food varieties displayed flavored colors of life to me , but what caught my attention was a cat ,looking lost and low. A fat hairy man eating something of reddish -orange fluffy porous cake-like thing which when asked he pointed to a stall and said something that sounded 'khakirhsa' gibberish with all those reddish-orange nameless thing on his mouth. My subject of interest at this moment was standing right next to this hairy-man's hairy legs hoping for at least a piece of this 'khakirhsa' to fall so that it could have first meal of the day , I guessed! The cat was looking so hungry . I moved a little away and sat on a bench waiting for the group that I got lost from. This man ordered something more from a different stall and continued his barbaric way of eating , he couldn't complete his food . No ,he didn't give the rest to the cat but threw it near a ' throw here'-kinda place near the stall and by this time he cancelled his other order (may be because it took long or his tummy is filled or he is running late for something) and kicked this cat on his way back running. I saw the cat running to the 'throw-here' side from where he was shoo-ed off by a person in the stall. Like a hopeless hungry man the cat walked a little away still waiting to find something to eat on his way , something to fall from a man's hand ,something to sustain it's life.I would have bought something for it ,if I had any cash. Its' trust on humans was not lost, the cat knows someone would give it a pat or piece of whatever they had. My mind wandering into different thoughts thinking of the difficulties that the animals are facing due to the domination of our existence. Its an understatement if I say that its heart-breaking to see the cruelty that we humans do to other animals on this planet. The rich and cute ones are adopted and loved ,but ever thought about the many that lay on the streets starving .Love,care ,affection are something they are unaware of! They end-up becoming mere lives on the food-chain ,living until they die!

Now the cats in the fat aunties' home are not all happy too. They are thrown to different hands when fat aunty have travel plans. They are locked up in four walled rooms when fat aunty is still rocking her hips on the party floor. And a very few lives a life that every cats deserves to have.The trust they had is on treacherous people ,let God save them all!

Now tell me , Who are we to call these cats disloyal!
