Samsung Electronics optimis dengan bisnis tabletnya. Perusahaan elektronik asal Korea Selatan yang juga produsen handset terbesar di dunia itu berencana melipatgandakan penjualan tabletnya tahun ini.

Samsung menargetkan mampu menjual hingga 40 juta unit tablet di sepanjang tahun 2013 ini. Demikian dikatakan Chief Executive Mobile Samsung, Shin Jong-kyun, seperti dimuat Liputan6.com, Asianewsnet, Rabu (27/2/2013).

Shin menambahkan, meski lesunya perekonomian global akan berdampak pada penjualan tablet pada semester pertama tahun ini, namun Samsung optimis dengan targetnya itu. Samsung akan mengeluarkan jajaran tablet baru pada tahun 2013.

"Kami tahu semester pertama tahun ini tidak mudah. Namun kami memprediksi pasar tablet akan tumbuh sebesar 50 persen tahun ini," katanya lagi dalam jumpa pers yang diadakan sehari sebelum peluncuran Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013.

Seperti diketahui, Samsung telah memamerkan tablet Galaxy Note 8 di ajang MWC di Barcelona. Tablet ini diposisikan untuk menyaingi iPad Mini. Samsung optimis tablet tersebut akan diterima dengan baik di pasaran.

Galaxy Note 8 dibekali prosesor quad-core A9 1.6GHz, RAM 2GB dan penyimpanan internal hingga 32GB yang dapat diperbesar dengan kartu microSD hingga 64GB, kamera belakang 5 megapiksel (MP), kamera depan 1,3 megapiksel dan juga stylus S Pen.

Target yang dipatok Samsung untuk penjualan tabletnya bisa dibilang cukup berani. Mengingat di ajang MWC tahun lalu, salah seorang eksekutif Samsung pernah mengakui kepada wartawan bahwa bisnis tablet Samsung tidak terlalu memuaskan. Menurut data dari peneliti pasar Strategy Analytics, Samsung menjual hingga 16,6 juta tablet PC pada tahun 2012.

Shin juga mengungkapkan rencana Samsung untuk menghadirkan solusi mobile inovatif yang lain - seperti layanan cloud pribadi yang disebut Home Sync dan layanan konten multi-screen bernama TV Discovery - untuk memperkuat sektor business-to-business (B2B) mobile miliknya.

Ia juga memastikan bahwa smartphone Samsung Galaxy S4 akan diperkenalkan di sebuah acara di New York pada 14 Maret mendatang.
