Saturday 09 November, Date Night

Saturday night Philip took me to the cinema to see Gravity in 3D! That movie was amazing! I am not normally one for 3D movies, but this move must be seen in 3D! I love space, and this movie was more of an experience than it was a movie or 90 mins of entertainment. I highly recommend it!!

Nursery

Saturday we also completed the nursery!

I still want to make a crib skirt, and maybe hang a picture, but that will come later! :)

One of Philip's colleagues was getting rid of their baby toys,

and sold them super cheap to us since he knew we are having a baby!

Woo-hoo!! It's like Christmas!! :D

Friday 08 November, Fødselsforberedelse Round 3

Friday's class discussed breast feeding. It was a very informative class, discussing how to begin with breastfeeding. We watched a few different videos that showed that letting the baby breast feed as soon as it is ready after birth helps to increase the chances of success of breastfeeding as well as start the production of milk.

We also watched a video that showed that from the moments babies are born, they have small non-verbal cues in order to try to communicate what it is they need. For example, with feeding there are many gestures (i.e. lips, hands, facial expression) that point to them being hungry before they actually even start crying. As parents we will need to learn our baby's cues.

We also talked about how to engage our babies from the very beginning, showing them attention and nurturing their learning need when they show interest.

Wednesday 06 November, Midwife Visit

Wednesday we visited the midwife for a routine visit. This visit was pretty routine. She took my blood pressure, measured my stomach, and felt boo. Everything was as it should be. She estimates that he weighs approximately 3100g (which falls very closely with what Lisbeth also estimated).

We also discussed my birth plan. I have created a 'plan' of how i would like things to be during delivery/birth. This is by no means permanent, but a plan so that i will have an opinion on things before they happen. --Also so that i don't have to worry about making decisions when i may not be totally in my right mind. :P Apparently birth plans aren't so common (1 in 10 women make one), but i feel more prepared having mine. :)

Besides the birth plan, part of my preparation for Boo to come i have started making extra food and freezing it so that we have ready made dinners. My new crock pot (i.e. slow cooker) has really come in handy for that!! :)

We now have all the necessary things ready to go! We are looking so much forward to welcoming our little guy! Hopefully sooner rather than later! ;)

37 WEEKS!!

We made it to the point that Boo will no longer be considered premature if he is delivered now!

We are so excited that we've reached this point! :)

CRIB

This week we bought the crib! As we already have our car seat and the pram, the crib was the last large thing we were missing! We had planned on buying a crib we found at Ønskebørn, which was a mix between danish & american design. It was quite expensive, but as it is the main piece of furniture for the nursery we were ready to splurge a little.

When i was in Ikea looking for some other things for baby/baby's room, I saw this crib! We had been in Ikea once before to see what they had, but this crib was not in stock the time we visited. The other cribs looked so cheap or weren't painted very well. But this one was different! Sweet, with a little decoration, well painted, and didn't look cheap! It was so cute and a fraction of the cost of the crib from Ønskebørn. I couldn't justify spending so much money on the crib when i had just found one for such a good price right there at Ikea! :) We decided to save money on the crib, purchase the cute one from Ikea, and use the saved money towards some of the other small baby things we are missing. :)

Friday 01 November, Fødselsforberedelse Round 2

Friday we had our second birth prep class. This time was much better/different than the first!

When we started out, the midwife said that we were going to start with an exercise. I was a little skeptical at first, but it turned out to be very good. We were to tense every muscle we possibly could in our body for 1 min. Afterwards, we were to do it again but then focus on our breathing (in through the nose and out through the mouth, not he he hooo or anything like that! hehe). It was really neat to see how time went much faster and it was actually really hard to stay tense in my body when i focused on my breathing.

This week we learned about the different phases of birth, what to expect during each phase, and the options for pain management. I knew quite a lot of the things from research on the Internet and some baby books. But i was missing the overview, and it was nice to have it all put together.

Below is a chart of the different phases we discussed. The chart is not from the class, but is a good representation of what we talked about.

It was so cozy to have a night out with my Hubby and to see family and friends! :)

New this week

This week is my second week on maternity leave. I have been using the time to get things prepared for the little guy to come, but also rest. It doesn't take much for my energy to get zapped, and busy days effect my energy even for the next day. Besides that, I have also been a bit more emotional but i have had such a sweet and understanding husband. I think he deserves a gold medal when all is said and done here. ;) I think the extra emotions come due to a mixture of tiredness, hormones, and the fact that baby will be here in no time! :)

We are so very excited to welcome our little man to this world!

The morning of my last day of work before maternity leave.

Thursday, 24 October

Thursday was my last day of work until October next year (2014)! I can't believe it!

In Denmark, maternity leave starts 4 weeks before the due date. This came at such a great time as the further a long in the pregnancy i get the more and more tired i am. Not to mention the 'pregnancy brain'.

Unlike the 12 weeks of unpaid leave you are allowed to take in the USA, here we are allowed up to ca. 1 year paid leave. The time is divided between the mother and father however they choose, but there is 1 year to be with the child. The first half year is paid with full wage, the second half is with 1/2 salary. Because our little guy is only a baby once, and we don't know how it will be financially if we ever had another, we decided to take advantage of this opportunity and take as much time with him as possible. :)

To commemorate my last day my sweet colleagues brought flødeboller. The box was huge, and I think there were over 100 flødeboller! We had fun playing with the box as you can see below! :P

Apparently there is a flødeboller "outlet" in Give where you can buy discount flødeboller.
They are discounted because there is a crack in them or the bottom isnt put on quite right.
Who cares!! They still taste the same!! DELISH! :)

After a long day of closing up all last minute tasks, i cleared my desk to be used for the time i am away. To be honest, it was quite the job cleaning out all the random papers i apparently have hoarded over my time of working there! It needed to be done sometime! :) It was very bitter-sweet, as i am looking so much forward to the new chapter in my life welcoming my little guy to this world and i know that I will be back, but i will still miss my friends at work. :)

It's a bit the same feeling i used to get when school was out for the summer! :D

Friday was the first class of our birth prep class. For the past year, free birthing courses have been offered from the municipality (kommune). There are 4 sessions, starting with the phases of delivery, then a class on breastfeeding and what it will be like when the baby comes home.

For the first class, we were to discuss the first phase of labor. I had gone into the class expecting a lot of practical information about what to expect, where to call, where to go, what to bring, and so on. When we arrived, we were sent into a class room with other couples already sitting and waiting. Luckily i got a seat by the window, which was open because it was so hot in there! :P

When the class started, we were instructed to split into 2 groups, Boys and Girls, to discuss who were are, how long we are in the pregnancy, and what we expect to get out of the course. At first i was really nervous about doing this, I had come to be with Philip and get practical information--not to go into groups. But it turned out to be very nice to get to know the other girls a bit. So i thought that would be it for the introduction and that we would get to the practical information.

This, however, was an incorrect assumption.

For the next task we were to pic a picture from a pile of pictures that was to describe how we felt about becoming new parents/our expectation of becoming new parents. I thought these pictures would show pictures of children and parents, toys, and so on. But the pictures were of piles of stones, a man from India with a piled cart, a roller coaster, a bridge, and so on.

I ended up picking a picture of a hand holding a little frog.

I chose this one because i think it represented something that needs nurturing.

Its a little frog that needs protection and guidance in the big world out there.

(Kinda cheesy i know, but we had to do it! :P)

Philip chose a picture of a mom on a swing with her child. He told me he chose that one because he looks forward to play and teach our little guy. I thought that was sweet. :) Many of the others chose pictures about keeping a balanced life, or that it will be like a roller coaster, etc. What was pretty interesting was that couples tended to choose similar pictures. :)

After the picture exercise we had about 20 mins of discussion about the first phase of birth. We started by watching a video about the adventure our little baby has been through during pregnancy. This video was pretty interesting (see below).

After this we talked about the first phase of labor, how labor tends to start (i.e. with contractions or with water breaking), and what to do when we have started labor, and when we should expect to go to the hospital. We were told that labor starts different for everyone, but that we should try to stay at home as long as possible during the first phase of labor so that we are more relaxed and comfortable. The more relaxed and comfortable we are, the better the contractions will be later on in the delivery. I agree to this already, i would like to stay at home as long as possible before having to go to the hospital. :) We also got the phone number to where we should call if we have any questions.

Our next class is 1 November. I look forward to this class as we will hopefully talk more about labor and gain some practical insight into what it is like and the possibilities we have when we are at the hospital.

Saturday 26 October, Rune Klan

Saturday night we went to see RUNE KLAN!! Rune Klan was the first danish comedian i could understand because he speaks so clearly. He does comedy and magic! We were able to get the tickets through the employee events group, Møllebanden.

The evening started with dinner out at Dyrby's restaurant in Herning.

We sat together at dinner with my colleagues Tina & Rikke.

The show was absolutely fantastic, and it was very nice to get to spend some time outside of work with colleagues!

Midwife Visit, Wednesday 23 October

Wednesday we had an appointment with the midwife. This time there was also a student joining us. For the most part we talked about how i am feeling, how the pregnancy is going, and the other questions i come with. I asked about boo having hiccups so often, if that was normal. Apparently it is a sign that he is preparing his lungs for birth by swallowing amniotic fluid. In the past couple of weeks i have also been experiencing a numb patch of skin next to my navel. Apparently this is because of the way baby is laying, possibly pinching a nerve. [since the midwife visit i have experience that when i lay on my side the feeling comes back. So it is only temporary until baby comes] After this they took my blood pressure (which was great), and felt my stomach, and listed to baby's heartbeat.

They mentioned that he is in the head down position and will stay that way until he is born. They asked if i noticed a bit more space in my upper abdomen now...which is really interesting because the day before i was just saying to Philip "I feel like i have more place in my stomach now. I can bend over again." Apparently, this is because he has moved a bit further down to get ready!

According to their measurements, baby boy is growing just as he should.

Our midwife estimates that he weighs approximately 2.7kg (~6 lbs)

How far along? 35 Weeks

Total weight gained? 12kg

Maternity clothes? I can only fit in my maternity clothes, or some shirts with an extra long tank underneath...Some of the maternity tops i have make me look gigantic, where others make me look much smaller. I enjoy wearing dresses and my maternity tights most often, as they are so much more comfortable than the maternity pants i have. The pants can just get so warm and sometimes the elastic is itchy.

Stretch marks? Nope! But i am starting to get a faint line down from my navel to my pubic bone. Very faint.

Sleep: Falling asleep is no problem....really any time of the day actually! haha Staying asleep at night is the problem. This is thanks to the increased trips to the bathroom, problems in changing position due to my growing belly and sometimes wicket acid reflux/heart burn. I tend to build a fort of pillows around me which help somewhat. :) I've also apparently become a snorer. :P Sorry Philip!

Best moment lately: Feeling boo move, and seeing my belly jump. My sweet baby boy is getting so big there isn't much room any more!

Miss anything: I love being pregnant and wouldn't trade this for anything. But if i have to say something, then its my stamina... It takes nothing to wipe me out these days! I sleep a ton and need extra breaks in between physical activities. I think this could be due to not sleeping so well at night, but also the pregnancy itself.

Movement: Boo is constantly moving. He is busy in there! :) He often gets hiccups.

Cravings: Milk... I have been drinking around 1L of Milk (Lactose Free) a day. Part of this is because I am craving it, part of it is because it helps SO MUCH with my acid reflux.

Anything make you queasy or sick? Bananas!! YUCK! Also, i would love to eat more lettuce than i do, but it still just is not so appetizing to me. I still get a lot of veggies (carrots, corn, tomatoes, bell peppers, etc.), just not so much Lettuce. I used to love salad!! I hope my love for salads comes back after the pregnancy.

Labor Signs: This is hard to say because i don't know what labor will feel like. BUT i did have to go down in work hours a few weeks ago because of increased braxton hicks contractions. Since then, the braxton hicks contractions are few in between as they should be. I do feel, however, that baby has moved down and there is increased pressure in my pelvic area. I really can only feel it though when i am walking.

Belly Button in or out? Hard to say, it's mostly in but it is almost flush with my skin and sometimes i have a little outie "lip" on the top. :P

Wedding rings on or off? I can still wear my rings, but they are a bit tighter than they were before. So when i am home i dont have any jewelry on, but when i leave the house they are on.

Happy or Moody? I feel that i have been very happy these days. But for the most part i feel that i have been very happy my entire pregnancy. Of course i have had times where i am exhausted so I am a bit more emotional than i would probably be if i wasn't pregnant, but not really moody as such. This is probably something that will have to be confirmed by Philip! ;) hehe

What I am looking forward to: Holding my little baby boy. Seeing Philip hold him. Introducing him to his grandparents. :)

Milestones: Start maternity leave and birth preparation class next week.

Weekly Wisdom: Think of delivery as an experience not as something that has to be over with. It is the finale of pregnancy. Also, don't feel guilty for taking the time to rest because not only do i need it but so does baby!

11 October Visiting Siemens' Blade Factory

Friday I visited Siemens' Blade Factory in Aalborg with my colleagues Tina & Alexandra. We had a tour of the factory, along with some classroom training of the blade making process. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take pictures, but these pictures are pretty good representation of the factory. These pictures show the making of the worlds largest single mold blade, 75 Meters.

Saturday, 12 October, Dinner with Peter & Jacqui

On Saturday, the day after the Aalborg trip, my friends Peter and Jacqui visited for dinner. We had a great dinner made from my slow cooker--beef roast, with potatoes and veggies. It was yummy!

After catching up and eating dinner we played RoboRalley--a board game about robots. It was so fun! Even though she got off to a slow start, Jacqui won!! haha It was actually pretty funny that she won, since she only won by default--the rest of us died! haha

We did however learn that pregnant Erin doesn't do very well with timers! As soon as a timer would be set, I would get so stressed that I couldn't think or even finish laying out the sequence of my cards. haha!

We had a really great time!

Wednesday, 16 October, Dinner in Horsens

Wednesday, 16 October, Marius and Sofie were visiting Horsens because of the Autumn vacation. Philip and I went to visit. We had a great time just relaxing together and enjoying each other's company. Lisbeth made some steaks & potatoes, and Sofie made some veggies wrapped in bacon!! It all tasted amazing!!! :)

After dinner we had a cozy time sitting together and talking. Lisbeth was able to feel boo again. She says she thinks he weighs around 2600g (5.7lbs). She estimates that he will weigh around 3.5 - 3.6kg when he is born. Let's see!! :)

The crazy thing this time was that I was able to feel his head with the Lisbeth's guidance. He still is laying in a head down position, as he has most of the pregnancy. Let me tell you, i think he's got one big head! Yikes!! :-/ haha

Anyone else have any guesses on how much he will weigh?

Since I have been able to have the two days a week off work, it has really helped me to feel better and more healthy. I feel like things are going quite smoothly now. I am still very tired, and it doesn't take much before my energy is zapped. But i have not been experiencing any more contractions. Once in a while i get one or two braxton hicks--this is completely normal. But nothing like i had a few weeks ago.

As for weird pregnancy things; I still have the same food aversions. I dislike bananas very much at the moment, along with cucumber (raw), and the smell of fish is extremely off-putting. I do, however, still like bacon and ice cream (separately of course! hehe).

Sleep is becoming a bit more of a challenge these days. I wake up multiple times a night to use the rest room, or now because my stomach is getting so large to just change positions. I have also been blessed with the pregnancy gift of snoring! haha I do hear myself sometimes and wake up because of it. Otherwise, this is more of a gift for Philip than it is for me! haha! Sorry honey!! :)

Next week is my last week of work. I will work Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Then i will be off work for approximately 11 months. It is so crazy to think that in just a few weeks i will be holding my little baby boy! :)

This week we bought a Car Seat!!

In this picture the Philip and the sales woman at ønskebørn are testing the car seat.

This is an amazing accomplishment! I have been so worried about getting getting a car seat!

I figure that everything else can come after the baby is here, if necessary, EXCEPT the car seat!

In order to get the baby home, we HAVE to HAVE a Car seat!!

Call it a prego thing, but getting this just made my day and took a load off my mind!! :)

Afterwards we enjoyed lunch out. :)

Funny Story from Work

Now that I am working only 3 days a week, I spend a lot of time with Alexandra--the girl who will be taking over my work responsibilities while I am on maternity leave. Much of my day at work is spent sitting together with Alex and going over problems she may have trouble solving or additional tasks we haven't yet discussed.

During an afternoon meeting on Monday (6/10), boo was extraordinarily active. I told Alex that she could feel him moving if she wanted to. Right when i place her hand on my stomach, boo went nuts and did a kung fu kick on her hand. haha! It was so funny! She jerked back, and said "Oh my goodness! Oh my Goodness! You have a sumo wrestler in there!" :)

On Thursday, 26 Sept, we had a bit of a scare.

On my way home from work i started to get regular contractions. They were painless, so i assumed they were only braxton hicks (plukveer). The weird thing was that they came in regular intervals, every 3 mins. By time i got home (from the 1hr & 15 min drive) they were coming very regularly and very strong. Still painless, but very strong. I had never experienced anything like that before. --I had experience braxton hicks before, but they were always spontaneous and random.

After getting home and talking to Philip, I laid on the bed and hoped that things would calm down. After some time, when they still didn't stop, i decided to ask my lovely mother-in-law, Lisbeth, who is a midwife and knows about these things. She said it wasn't normal but she didn't think that it was any cause for concern as long as the contractions were more mild/left when i was resting. Also, we agreed that since there was no bleeding or water, and i could still feel boo moving around, it could most likely wait until my already scheduled doctor's appointment that was the next morning at 9am (regular check up).

After speaking with Lisbeth, i felt much better but i was still nervous because the contractions continued. They continued through the night (making it incredibly difficult to sleep) and much into the next morning. By the time i went to the doctor i was quite tired, stressed about the situation, and as you can guess--pretty emotional.

After talking with the doctor, she seemed concerned but not worried. She took my blood pressure, weighed me, measured my stomach, and felt the baby (by pushing on my stomach). Because i had been having so many contractions my stomach was very hard, making it difficult for her to really be able to feel precisely where boo was. Therefore she sent me up to the hospital for a thorough check-up including scanning.

The hospital was able to get me in right away. They took my blood pressure, listened to my heart, listened to my lungs, did a scan of boo, measured how much he weighs, the size of his head and thighs. They then took these measurements and mapped them according to how he had been growing up to this point and how much he should have grown by week 32.

At the end of everything we found out that Boo weighed 2kg and was happy and healthy --growing just as he should. It was an extreme relief to know that boo was healthy and growing as he should.

Since everything was just as it should be, they decided the reason i was having so many plukveer was because i was overly tired, and my body was having a hard time keep up with my busy work schedule. Because of this, the doctor said i needed to go down in my work hours--preferably only 3 days a week.

This was really hard for me, as i had been keeping up at work just as before i was pregnant. I didn't want to let my colleagues down. I was nervous as i didn't know what they would think or how they would react. Monday, 30 Sept, i told them what had happened. Everyone was extremely sweet and understanding (more than i could have hoped for) when i told them about the situation.

With three weeks left before i go on maternity leave, i will now only be working 3 days a week.

For my birthday Lisbeth & Flemming got me a rocking chair!!

I had been looking every where for one, but without much luck.

The chair they found is in great condition and matches our other furniture perfectly!

From Sofie & Marius I got a lamb skin to put in the chair.

It looks so nice and is so comfortable!!!

The weather was beautiful, and we were able to sit outside to open presents

and eat some delicious home-made buns and layer cake.

On my actual birthday I took rundstykker/morgen kage to work.

It was super cozy, having breakfast with my colleagues.

When I got home Philip and I celebrated my birthday.

Philip made me a delicious dinner, with fresh meat from the butcher, potatoes, and salad.

For my birthday Philip got me a 1hr massage from a wellness center down town Århus

and a slow cooker (i.e. crockpot)!!

This slow cooker has a very funny story behind it.

For the longest time, I couldn't figure out what a 'crockpot' is called in danish. I had searched every where to try to figure out the name. Then by chance, I saw a website with a picture of a crockpot and the term "køkken maskine" next to it. So i figured, "ok! it's called a køkken maskine". So a month or so before my birthday, Philip asked what I wanted and I told him "a køkken maskine".

Some time went by and just by chance I come to realize that køkken maskine was not at all what I was asking for. I was asking for a crock pot. A køkken maskine was actually a counter top mixer!...after this realization, I actually didn't think to tell Philip about it right away. I forgot about it for another week or so, until one evening Philip walked past the living room where I was sitting. I thought "hey! don't forget to tell Philip you don't actually want a Køkken maskine!" So I told him about the little mix up. I asked if he had already bought it, and he said "no, no, don't worry".

Afterwards, it turns out that it was actually that night that Philip was going to buy the "køkken maskine" online! He had come downstairs for his wallet, when I just happened to mention to him about the mix up! Apparently 'crockpot' is a name brand (like band aid or ipod). The actual pot is called a slow cooker--which is why I wasn't able to find the term in danish! Of course we could have always sent the mixer back, but I am so happy we were able to avoid that little mix up! haha!

The first meal we cooked in the slow cooker was a great success!!!

Dreams

They always say you have weird dreams when you are pregnant. So far my dreams have been pretty vivid, but not all that strange. Until the other night.....

I had a dream that i was pregnant with a Duck! When i looked down at my pregnant stomach, the skin was transparent and i could see that there was a duck growing inside, curled into a ball. It looked as it does when we learn about how ducks grow in eggs--only this one was in my stomach.

At a certain point the water drained out and the duck uncurled and raised his vivid green head.

We realized we were having a Mallard and were very happy about that! haha

Today I celebrate 7 years together with my wonderful, loving, and handsome husband!

He is the love of my life, my soul mate.

I was treated to a home-made dinner, Steak, Potatoes, Sauce, and Salad, when I cam home from work.

After dinner we spent the evening watching our wedding DVD we haven't seen since 2007.

It was so fun, and romantic to remember back about our time in Miami.

To prove how long we have been together, and how much we think alike.....

We gave eachother (without knowing) the same card. LOL

I got the girl version! ...He got the boy version! hehe

Baby Shower (14 Sept)

Saturday the 14th of September, my sweet colleagues (SWP) threw me a traditional American Baby Shower. Baby showers are not a tradition in Denmark, but the girls knew this was a tradition in USA and decided to throw a party for me. The thought of this, alone, was already so sweet. They did such an amazing job!

The party started at 4pm at Susanne's house, where we all gathered together for some cozy fun, cupcakes, Tea/Coffee, and some fun games.

Susanne had decorated in a blue "it's a boy" theme. Super cute! With Blue balloons, blue 'It's a boy!' napkins, and cupcakes with blue cupcake icing!

Although we are all adults, the Blue Cupcake Icing was quite entertaining!

Since I like bacon now that I am pregnant, my mom had sent some bacon earrings and necklace for me to wear at the party. I wore them both all night! :P

For Fun we scratched off a 'baby shower' lottery cards, and played a few quizzes!

Then it was time for me to open my presents.

I received a Baby Activity Mat from the Group.

This was fantastic as i had not thought of purchasing anything like this yet.

I also received some ring 'o' links, which can be used to secure toys to the baby crib.

From Tina (Jensen) I recieved a hand-made / crocheted baby blanket!

A beautiful blanket. So sweet, and so thoughtful! :)

Later on, the girls decorated baby bibs! They turned out very cute!!

While the girls were decorating the bibs, I was in the kitchen chatting when Mark (Susanne's husband) called me to see something on their IPad. At first, because i could see myself, I thought it was a video he had just taken of us ladies at the table. However, when i focused on the screen i could see that my mom was there. This was quite the shock, and i was trying to process what was going on.

How did they have my mom on their Ipad?....Skype..... How do they have my mom's skype?...."Mom?"..."Mom!!"

When it was finally explained that they were holding a parallel baby shower in the US for me, i started to cry. I was so overwhelmed by the love and thoughtfulness of everyone around me! Not only did my friends here in DK care enough about me to hold a baby shower for me as they knew it was a tradition for me, but they coordinated with the US so i could see my friends and family there as well. ....and all the people that came to the shower in the US!--The people who came to celebrate me even though i was only 'in the room' for a few minutes of the entire party.

I was able to see my Grandma Ross, Auntie Charlotte, Aunt Sherrie, Aunt Jenny, my cousin Melinda.

I was also able to see my sweet girlfriend, Sarah Colmer! Sarah and I have been friends since we were babies. I haven't talked to in over a year and she is also pregnant! It was so great to get to say congratulations to her and see her little baby bump as well! She is due a couple months after me! My other girlfriend Ashley was also there, and many more sweet sweet ladies of the church. They gave presents as well (which my mom will mail to me) and some gave money.

Melinda was so sweet and opened the presents on my behalf!

Over 30 ladies showed up for the shower rin the US.

I found out later, the ladies in the US came and celebrated just as they would have for a shower if i was there. They all met together around 10:00 am, had brunch, and then called me around 11:00am. We skyped for sometime. To be honest i have no concept of time--how long or short i talked with anyone.

I was so incredibly overwhelmed/shocked by everything, it felt as thought it really took some time for my brain to come back to earth. When i think back about it, i know i said/did some funny things, but i hope everyone knew it was because i was just so surprised. :P

After the surprise skype session, we sat down for dinner. Susanne had made a delicious pumpkin soup, and homemade bread, and Esma brought a traditional turkish salad. The food was absolutely amazing! Probably the best pumpkin soup and turkish salad i have ever had! :)

We played a couple more games, and spent the rest of the night just chatting and having a cozy time.

Second Midwife Appointment

(28 August)

At the second midwife appointment i had a substitute midwife as mine was out sick that day. It was unfortunate that she was out sick, but i'm glad she didn't come to work and get everyone (incl. me) sick as well. However, because of the illness in the office, there was quite a delay. Once we got in to see the midwife, things went smoothly.

As part of the appointment, they took my blood pressure, weighed me (total gained 9kg), and tested me for bladder infection. Everything came back good/normal. We sat and talked for sometime about what i have been experiencing, how i have been feeling, what kind of exercise i have been doing, and what have i been eating (standard conversation for every dr. appointment).

Then the fun part came when she felt my stomach. She measured my uterus and felt around boo to see how big he is and how he was laying. The picture (found online) below is a good representative of how he was laying, with his head down/bottom up, with his back to my left side.

Even though he had his head down at the appointment there is still plenty of space in there for him to move around and it is possible he is facing a different direction now.

Afterwards she charted the measurements she had take on the growth chart. Although she said she didn't think he was a 'huge' baby, he measures at the top of the growth chart!

I am happy to hear that because it means he is growing as he should and is very healthy. :) We also heard his heart beat. I don't think i could ever get tired of hearing that. It took her sometime to find it because he kept moving around.

Regarding my RH compatibility with Boo, i didn't get to find out at the appointment because there was a mix up with the tests that were taken on my blood samples. They tested my blood type (A-), not the baby's. So i will have to call for those results later this week.

In addition to the routine tests, we talked about some of the things i have been experiencing especially when i am tired. When i come home from work, I have experience that when i am very tired then my stomach gets SUPER HARD, uncomfortable, and sometimes is even painful when i am standing. However, the pain always subsides when i lay down, and therefore the midwife was not worried.

She said it sounded like braxton hicks contractions. Although, i don't think it's braxton hicks it doesn't go away but my stomach actually stays hard the rest of the night. In that case, she said that i when i feel like that, that i should just take it easy, and lay down. Neither of us think that it's a cause for concern. I only mentioned it so that they would be aware of what i have been experiencing.

Boo's Movements

Boo's movements have changed again. At times i feel like he is sliding around in there, and feel something glide across the inside of my stomach, like a knee or elbow. However, he also tends to make jerky movements that are quite sporadic and quick.

I have also experience him having hiccups now. I am sure i have felt this before, but i thought it was more of a muscle spasm. Monday September 2, i was at work in a meeting when he got the hiccups. He had them for around 10 mins, and it was so distracting. I finally mentioned it to the girl i was sitting with (luckily a friend as well as a colleague). She thought it was very sweet! :)

I love this little guy so much already, I am not sure how that is possible. :)

Feeling him move so much is so surreal, and really makes me realize that he will soon be here!

Family Party

The 31 August, Philip and I went to a family Kristoffersen party. It was Gunvor & Carsten's annual 'forkæelsesfest'. It's not only family but many of their friends, and it's always a good time with LOTS of GOOD food.

After the 'cake table' at 3pm, we all had a cozy time chatting.......

In the evening we joined together for dinner, good food, and more coziness! :)

.....did i mention there was lots of GOOD food! :)

In the evening there were board games. We played 3 language scrabble. I don't think i have ever had so much fun playing scrabble! I should also mention that Lisbeth & I were on a team, and the words we played were quite.....creative....hehe ;)

Swimming

The Sunday after the 'forkæelsesfest', Philip and I went swimming. We have now started swimming around 2 days a week. I enjoy this time with him so much, but also the ease of the exercise on my ever growing stomach! :)

As much as i enjoy swimming, i have had to get used to the locker room at the swimming hall. :P I am not one for prancing around naked in the locker room on a good day, let alone when i am 7 months pregnant! However, rules are rules, and there is no getting around showing before/after the pool. I was getting used to the whole idea, and had fooled myself into thinking that no one noticed me.

....this assumption was incorrect.

After a leisure time of swimming with my hubby, we decided to call it a day and went back to the locker room for showers and to get dressed. While i was in the shower rinsing off, 2 little girls (6yrs & 8yrs) kept peaking around the corner at me and running back and talking to each other in whispers. The oldest girl was the most curious, and kept coming back to show (as if she wasn't finished) just so she could get a better look. I actually think it was sweet, and it really didn't bother me that they were curious. I know I must look so strange compared to the other women they have seen. :)

Monday night I was laying and watching TV and i could feel boo move to one side of my stomach. When i lifted my shirt this was the view! I was laying flat on my back!

Boo had squished up to the one side of my stomach! haha

Saturday Philip and I went to the local pool for the first time! It was so nice to be able to exercise again! Even when I go on relaxing walks, if i go too far, my stomach muscles start to ache. When we were swimming, I was able to swim for an hour without the stress of the added baby weight!

I think we may make this a weekly occurrence! :)

Time for another survey!

How far along: 27 Weeks! The end of the second trimester!

Total weight gain: 7 kg

Maternity clothes: Most definitely! I have to be quite creative with what i can wear. My new favorite outfit consists of a t-shirt dress and tights/leggings.

Stretch marks: nope! yippee!!!!

Sleep: Falling asleep is not a problem at all. It seems as soon as my head touches the pillow (any time of day really) i am asleep. Staying asleep is a bit more of a challenge. I am typically up at least once a night to use the restroom and stretch my legs. I don't really have leg cramps as such, but more restless legs. Swimming helped quite a bit with my restless legs, so i think i will keep up with that!
During the first trimester i was extremely tired, all the time. I could not take a shower & vacuum in the same day. From week 16 till about 25/26 i have been feeling pretty normal, almost myself. However, now i can feel that the tiredness is coming back again. Not at all as it was in the first trimester, but i need more and more sleep to be able to get through the day.

Best moment of this week: Every time i feel baby boy kick or move around is amazing. But this is not only this week. ..to limit it to this week would probably by my trip to the swimming pool with my hubby!

Miss anything: Spinning.... but it is only a short time and i can get back to that. I am so blessed to be able to have this opportunity to experience pregnancy and carry my baby boy which far outweighs anything else.

Movement: Lots, but especially in the evening. His kicks are strong enough i can see them through my clothing now. When I lay flat I can feel more gliding movements when he is changing position. A funny story: This past Monday i was in an important meeting at work (a meeting you need to be on top and paying attention). Boo decided that was the time to do his exercises/karate. So he was kicking up a storm, harder than i have ever felt before. Needless to say, this was quite distracting (but in a good way). :)

Food cravings: Ice cream, mashed potatoes w/ bacon, spicy food (not so good for acid reflux).

Anything making you queasy or sick: bananas & cucumbers...smell of alcohol

Have you started to show yet: Yes very much. People at work are starting to comment now, "when is the due date?".

Gender: It's a Boy!!

Labor signs: Nope. I don't even think i have experienced Braxton Hicks yet (plukveer). Something new that has started; When I am very tired my stomach gets very hard. I know they say this is what happens with Braxton Hicks, but when my stomach does it it's not only 1 or 2 mins, its the entire evening.

Belly button in or out: Innie but very shallow. If i laugh when i am bloated it pokes out.

Wedding rings on or off: On for the most part. I take them off when i am home or if i am on a walk (which is when my fingers tend to swell the most). Luckily i do not have too much fluid in my hands/feet (yet).

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!

Looking forward to: My midwife appointment this coming Wednesday! Family party next weekend! My 7 Year anniversary in September! Baby shower in September! (...i can go on..)

Routine doctors appointment

At the appointment my doctor weighed me, took my blood pressure, took a few blood samples, and felt my stomach. Apparently baby is growing big and healthy. The doctor told me at least 5 different times, in at least 5 different ways that he is a big baby. He is apparently above average--not by much, but he is growing strong & healthy! :) We are very happy to hear he is so healthy!

As for my weight, I have gained a total of 7 kg, which she said is very normal. As part of my blood samples, they will tested me for iron deficiency because I feel dizzy quite easily these days.--sometimes when I am sitting down or even laying down the room starts to spin. The blood test came back normal (no anemia). The doctor said the dizziness could also be due to my low blood pressure, and to just take it easy when I stand up (not too quickly) and try not to lay directly on my back as the pressure from my uterus on an artery could potentially lower blood supply to my legs/head.

They also tested my blood type (A-) and to find out if the baby is RH- or +. I will find out more about this at my 28 weeks check up with the midwife.

Our trip to Fosdalen

(Wednesday August 7th)

Fosdalen is a beautiful forestry area outside of Tranum.

Fosdalen is one of the District's most famous excursion sites and one of the most visited sites in North Jutland. Fosdalen is a north-south valley. At the bottom of the lush rain water gap or erosion canyon runs a small stream, Our Lady's, which starts at the top of the valley, near the stone. The stone bearing the words "Our Lady's" raised 1936. The water comes from sources in the side of the valley and from wealth at the upper end of the valley. Fosdalbækken runs with varying degrees of intensity throughout the year. The source / pelvis is to make Fosdalen for a peaceful and quiet place.

Fosdalen flows into the country's largest inland coastal cliff, called Lien.Fosdalen were sold from Lerup rectory in 1901 and was included along with other areas in the state plantation, it is now difficult to imagine that the valley of preservation for more than 100 years ago was open with grass , heather, scattered scrub and clear view. Almost 100 meters from the end of Fosdalen leads a staircase with over 100 steps up to stunning views of the Under Lien / The marine foreland (the tanks place). First Midwife Visit

Wednesday, July 10th at 8:45, was my first midwife (jordemor) visit. It was at a midwife clinic outside the hospital, actually pretty close to Philip's work. Philip was sweet and came along with me.

Rebecca Debess is the midwife that is assigned to me for the rest of my pregnancy. She is incredibly sweet and patient. Each visit she will weigh me, take my blood pressure, listen to the baby's heart beat, and feel my stomach. It will also be a time where I can raise any questions or concerns i may have.

She gave me all kinds of useful information, like where to find relevant information about the pregnancy and birth at Skebybaby.dk and free pregnancy courses at www.familie.rm.dk I will be registered for the first time pregnancy course at my next appointment which is the end of August.

This visit was mainly to meet Rebecca and for her to ask some questions about me and how the pregnancy is going. We sat and talked for sometime about my eating and fitness routine (or lack there of, haha), what is normal/expected with regards to baby's movements and growth, and what i can expect for the next few weeks regarding medical appointments (i.e. visiting my own dr. week 25, and then her again week 28,etc.). She then felt my stomach and we heard boo's heart beat with a handheld dopler. I don't think i can ever get tired of hearing that! :)

We did find out that I am RH- (rhesus negative), and that means that i have to have another blood test to see if baby is RH+ which could cause some issues if we don't know about it. As long as we are aware of it, there is no problem.

Afterwards i weighed myself on the clinic's scale (our scale at home is broken). In 21 weeks of pregnancy, i have gained a total of 6kg. As i haven't been doing anything extraordinary to stay in shape (i.e. i don't go to spinning or the gym at the moment) and i eat what i can (I am still quite picky with food) i am quite pleased. They have said that overall a woman can gain 10-15kg during pregnancy, so i believe i am in the normal/average range.

Overall it was a very pleasant visit. We are very happy with the midwifed we've been assigned, and look forward to what the coming weeks will bring.

Saturday July 13th

Philip and I visited Baby Sam. This is the first time we have gone to a baby shop together.

We had such a nice time together, just looking at all the tiny clothes and all the equipment you can buy.

This week's purchase

Baby's first book! It's made of material.

The inside has small flaps that can open, and make a crinkle noise when touched.

We also picked up baby nail clippers while we were at the store.

One of the books i read said it was good to have them at the hospital.

Apparently baby's nails could be quite long when he comes.

Oh Boy! It's A BOY!!!

20 Week Scan

Friday 5 July, we went for the 20 week abnormality scan. For this scan my sweet mother-in-law, Lisbeth, was able to join us. :)

During the scan they looked at the baby from top to bottom to see if there were any abnormalities. The brain looked perfectly symmetrical, the heart is growing big and strong as it should with all four chambers and propper blood flow, the spine and spinal cord is growing just as it should be, he has two arms, two hands, two legs, and two feet. Everything about our little guy is going just as it should.

According to the ultrasound picture he is 15.4 cm, and ca. 400 grams or .9lbs.

After the midwife finished the abnormality examination, we asked if she could see the gender of the baby. She replied "Are you sure you want to know?" and we both said "Yes!!". We did not have a preference, but because nothing ever showed on the previous scans I thought it might be a girl. So when she pointed out on the scan and said "There's no doubt! You're having a boy!". We were so surprised but so happy to know we will be having a son!--a healthy little boy!!

This was Thursday the 27th June, boo was dancing.

June 29th, boo was interpretive dancing.

The movements felt more like he/she was gliding around in my stomach.

This time Philip was actually able to feel the baby move!!

18 Weeks + 6 Days (June 26, 2013)

I felt the baby move for the first time!!!

It was 19 June, I was at work and around 3-4pm I felt a little flutter on the right side of my lower abdomen. Later that evening, when I was laying in bed, I felt more of a small poke in the same area. By small poke, think of what it feels like if you tap your tongue to your cheek. I think i have been feeling this before but I wasn't sure if it was just air in my stomach. I could be mistaken, but I am 99% sure this time it is the baby!!

I am just so excited every time I feel it! It just confirms what I've been feeling. That baby is healthy and thriving in there! Which is such a great feeling! I tell Philip about it and he just smiles so big. He is just as happy to hear it as I am to feel it. Unfortunately the feeling is just so light that Philip can't yet feel it. But I know it won't be too long before he is able to feel our little miracle!

Soon we will be going for our next scan (5 July) to find out if it's a boy or a girl! Yay!!
