How computer games are stunting with teen brains

Technology has given so much to humans, but with good things as well as bad things. Same is in the case of Computer games. Gone are those days when kids wanted to go for outdoor games to basketball courts or soccer ground to feel some sweat and get some physical strength. Sunday rush on grounds is vanishing completely. Computer games are becoming more popular day by day. Every day we see number of games being launched and teens who are crazy for games line up for hours in front of stores to buy.

The effect of computer games is starting to show in teens as they are becoming more and more violent day by day. Playing first person shooter action games may be giving them enjoyment. But they are unaware of the effects on brain both physically and mentally. A study done on teenage gamers in Tohoku University in Japan showed that computer games only provided stimulation to those brain parts that are associated with movement and vision. On the other hand teenagers studying arithmetic showed activity in both left and right hemispheres of frontal lobe areas associated with learning, emotion and memory.

But the most disturbing factor is that the frontal lobe, which plays a very important role in human behavior, is affected the most. It keeps on developing till we are 20 years old, but due to playing online games, this may not be developed completely. Continuous game playing greatly effects growth of frontal lobe and harming its development.

It has been comparatively observed that teens playing games have a less developed brain than those who are involved in doing arithmetic for around half an hour. Solving arithmetic involved a high degree of mental activity in both the hemispheres of the frontal lobe. It has also been observed that listening to music or listening to readings did not involve much of brain activity. In fact, reading out aloud is another thing which teens can do to stimulate brain activity.

Teenagers involved in playing computer video games have been seen to react to almost any other thing quite violently. Through Kawashima’s study, it was also inferred that playing computer games halted the process of brain development and also reduced their capacity of toleration. In the terms of science, it has been said that thickening the fibers in the frontal lobe of the human brain can enable the child to have control over his/her behavior, and the more the stimulation, the more is the fiber content thickened in the brain. The frontal lobe comes into action when to try to use self-control for refraining from something and if that is underdeveloped, it may easily allow you to go towards the wrong direction in life.

Since the playing of online games only helps in the development of organs related to sight and movement, it can be safely concluded that they are such things which should be kept within a limit and activities like arithmetic should be given more time. Only by this way shall a teen grow up to be a good and independent human being.

Previously we provided an instructional guide on how to install MONOCHROMATIC 1.5 MOD PACK on galaxy y the procedure is almost same. Installation Instructions:
First of all backup your system and charge you phone battery almost full.

For those using CWM Kernels (Savie's, White's, Merruk's above 1.8)

Download Mod pack "Monodramatic ALPHA 1.8 DXLF.zip" from above and place it in the root directory of your SD Card and turn off your phone
Reboot your phone in recovery mode by pressing volume up + Home + power button together when you enter recovery mode touchscreen will not work so take help of key vol up and down to move up and down home for making selection and power as back.
Now go to MOUNTS AND STORAGE and select MOUNT SYSTEM and select "Monodramatic ALPHA 1.8 DXLF.zip" file wait until process complete and then reboot.
That is all.

For those using Non-CWM Kernels (STOCK, Ironbuang, KURO, koneu, REPENCIS, IFRAN, TEMRA KERNELS)

Download Mod pack "Monodramatic ALPHA 1.8 DXLF.zip" and CWM "CWM_bla_bla.zip" from above and place it in the root directory of your SD Card and turn off your phone.
Reboot your phone in recovery mode by pressing volume up + Home + power button together when you enter recovery mode touchscreen will not work so take help of key vol up and down to move up and down home for making selection and power as back.
Now in stock Recovery mode select "apply update from sdcard" navigate to root directory of sdcard and select "cwm_bla_bla.zip" file now your phone will run the CWM, go to "install zip from SD" and choose "choose zip from SDcard"

Installation Instructions:

First of all backup your system and charge you phone battery almost full.

For those using CWM Kernels (Savie's, White's, Merruk's above 1.8)

Download Mod pack "Monodramatic ALPHA 1.5 DXLF.zip" from aboveand place it in the root directory of your SD Card and turn off your phone
Reboot your phone in recovery mode by pressing volume up + Home + power button together when you enter recovery mode touchscreen will not work so take help of key vol up and down to move up and down home for making selection and power as back.
Now go to MOUNTS AND STORAGE and select MOUNT SYSTEM and select "Monodramatic ALPHA 1.5 DXLF.zip" file wait until process complete and then reboot.
That is all.

For those using Non-CWM Kernels (STOCK, Ironbuang, KURO, koneu, REPENCIS, IFRAN, TEMRA KERNELS)

Download Mod pack "Monodramatic ALPHA 1.5 DXLF.zip" and CWM "CWM_bla_bla.zip" from above and place it in the root directory of your SD Card and turn off your phone.
Reboot your phone in recovery mode by pressing volume up + Home + power button together when you enter recovery mode touchscreen will not work so take help of key vol up and down to move up and down home for making selection and power as back.
Now in stock Recovery mode select "apply update from sdcard" navigate to root directory of sdcard and select "cwm_bla_bla.zip" file now your phone will run the CWM, go to "install zip from SD" and choose "choose zip from SDcard"
Then navigate through the folder where you have saved the "Monodramatic ALPHA 1.5.zip" and select it and yes.
Wait for the process to be completed, then reboot system br selecting reboot system now.
That's all you are done.

Congratulation! you have successfully installed MONOCHROMATIC mod pack on your Samsung galaxy y. If you notice any bug post on the thread page so dev may fix when he releases next update.

Loving your smartphone too much?

Is there such thing as loving your smartphone too much? I never used to think so. I mean, just because I like to keep mine close, doesn't make it an addiction. Right? I read an interview with neuroscientist Susan Greenfield, who suggests that digital technology has an impact on our brains. She says there's evidence of adolescents becoming obsessive towards their technology; whether it be their computer games, smartphone or TV.

I started to wonder about my smartphone habits.

Around 50 percent of the world currently own a smartphone. I'm willing to bet the vast majority wouldn't admit to spending more time than necessary on them though. And yet, the more I analyse my own habits, the more I'm starting to see Greenfield's point. There are three traits I've come to recognise in myself, that indicate I might have been addicted to my smartphone at some point.

Must look at it

The first was an untameable desire to look at my smartphone. Not because it's pretty. I just wanted to know how many messages I'd had in the last 30 seconds. It didn't matter that I was on the train, at work, or on the land-line phone, I couldn't help glancing at it. At one point I wouldn't put it away in my pocket, in case I missed something.

Hundreds of apps

It turns out having hundreds of apps on your smartphone, can indicate an obsession. Some people only have the Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and email apps. I applaud these people. The more I look through the app store, the more games and quirky apps gain my interest. There are so many to choose from. Get fed up of one, move on to another. So what if I'll only use it once or twice?

A flat battery

This was the issue that made me admit I had a problem. The more often I used my smartphone, the quicker the battery drained. Using it to excess was leaving me in constant need of a socket to plug the charger into. The average smartphone is supposed to stay powered for at least a day. The day I realised I was charging mine twice a day, was the day I pulled back from it.

So yes, I do believe Greenfield has a point. I switch it off at least once a day now, and won't let myself check my messages too often. The result? A lot of the anxiety has disappeared. It also turns out, there's interesting things happening outside. Who knew?
