Sementara mereka menemukan sedikit kandungan logam di dalam tabung pengisian ulang, jumlah logam beracun yang jauh lebih besar diamati pada e-liquid yang terdapat pada koil pemanas di dalam RDA/RDTA.

Kontaminasi logam bahkan terbawa ke aerosol yang dihasilkan dengan memanaskan e-liquid. Para ilmuwan menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan konsentrasi logam beracun antara pengisian ulang dispenser dan aerosol hampir pasti berasal dari koil, yang biasanya terdiri dari nikel, kromium dan beberapa logam lainnya.
