I Feel Productive Today

I already handed the first batch of headbands that I made. The residents loved them. I'm glad. I planned to make more. Just a simple keepsake. It is fun to share a little bit of ourselves to others, without expecting anything in return.

The other day, I was wearing one of the headbands I made for myself when one of the residents asked where did I get my headband. I said, I made it. She was amazed to learn that I can make them. So, I ended up telling her I am going to make one for her.

Tonight, I made another batch of headbands. Hope the residents would like it as the others. I felt so accomplished by doing this.

Brother CS-6000i

I have an old sewing machine and I can say that I learned so many things from it. It was not a good quality machine but tolerable since it is for a beginner like me. But, I want a better machine that can help me work flawlessly. I think I am getting better, haha...

Unfortunately, I did not have money for a better machine so I put up with my old one, for a couple of months. I started saving money just to buy me a new one. For the meantime, I kept using my old toy because I am still learning from it. It was alright. What matters was I am having fun. I get irritated at times, especially if the thread jams. Oh, the fun... but I survived. Haha...

Singer 1507

Singer 1507, my husband bought this for me as a birthday gift. I was 40 then but I did not use this until I was 42. Anyways, I am not going to throw my Singer away. I am keeping it as a back-up. I can still use it for small projects.

In September, I bought a new machine, yay! I was looking for another singer and I already had something in mind. I saved money for it. I always go to JoAnn Fabric Store, and that's where I saw "My" dream machine. It was on sale that time so I was like, "I am buying you!" but... my husband told me to check it online for it might be cheaper. So, online I went. The prices are almost the same. As I was browsing, a machine caught my attention. It was so pretty and it has all five stars. All reviews were positive. There were negative ones but I never count on those. I go for the positive one and the stars. The price was also reasonable. As soon as it arrived, I tested it and I was in love with how smooth it is and all the features was all I was looking for.

Brother CS-6000i

So here, the Singer sewing machine I was eyeing for was worth $300 + and Brother CS-6000i I got it for $147.00 on Amazon. I saved a ton with my Brother, haha... I am sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing. I only stop if I have to go to work. I am still learning the machine, though, but I love it already. It's worth the wait,doesn't it?

I will tell about the features of my new toy next time. This woman needs to go to bed because I am gonna be working on the floor tomorrow. Have a good night everyone. =)

DIY Seat Belt Cover

I do not like my seat belt touching and rubbing my skin, especially my neck. It irritates me a lot. I planned to buy a seat belt online but it is too expensive just for a pair. So, I thought "Maybe I can make one for myself." It was my first attempt and I can say that I am pleased.

Here's what really excites me. My co-worker saw my seat belt cover and she wanted one for herself. I was skeptical at first. To be honest, the one I made was just for myself and though I liked it, it is not perfect, yet. Anyways, I still tried my best. So, tonight... I've decided to sew.

I do not have any tutorials, yet, for I am not an expert sewer. I will try sharing ideas in the future. So, help me God. =)

I Am Having Fun

Hello there! How is everyone doing today? Well, I have been very busy lately, with work and with other stuff. I have been sewing a lot since the first day I learned how to. It is so much fun. Anyways, since it is Fall season, I have thought of making a sling bag with a Fall spirit. Oh, yeah! I love bags, haha...

A New Year, A New Life, A New Interest

This is my first post for the year 2015. I have been through a lot last year. I lost my job, couldn’t pay my bills in full, could not send any monetary help to my ailing mother. It was hard. Luckily, I got hired at Jackson Medical Care Facility, my second home. I cannot thank them enough for trusting and believing in me. I had to stop my schooling because I cannot think straight. So many bad occurrences I have had face last year. I thought I could not survive or brave all my predicaments.

Everything was going smoothly. Not until I was scheduled for breast surgery on September. So, here is another chapter in my life that I had to deal with. Radiation therapy after the surgery was not a fun experience but worth it. December 23, 2014 was my last therapy. It was an early Christmas gift to me. At last! One chapter is done. Next, please.

I Feel Good!

I have not yet started the Tamoxifen. To be honest, I am having confusions with this medication. Is it worth taking? You can read it here and leave me a comment. Tell me what is your take, please? Thank you.

On the lighter side, I have started a new hobby. In 2012, my husband bought me this Singer sewing machine for my 40^th birthday . On January 3^rd, I celebrated my 43^rd birthday. Thank you for the greetings, hihihi…

On my 40th birthday.

After my surgery, the doctor wanted me to have a time off from work. It was a two long boring weeks. Then, I thought of my Singer. FYI, I know nothing in sewing. I just wanted to have one, for future hobby. That time is now. I have started buying stuff necessary for sewing. I am a Facebook addict so I joined this page that talks about sewing. Since I am not sewing literate, YouTube is my online tutor. There are so many channels for a beginner like me. It was fun watching these talented people and taking their time to teach a newbie, for Free.

While not working, I have tried to make something that will make my mini-vacation a fruitful one. It has been a long dream to make my own sling bag. Due to a hectic working schedule and a little laziness on the side, it took me forever to get my first project done.

I know. Not the best creation but spare me, please. I am still learning and I will take all the criticism positively. I am very proud of myself when I got this one done. NO pattern just purely imagination, hah! =)

The Plaid

This one was not so perfect but I spent days and nights to make this apron. I have aprons that I bought from stores so I gave this to a friend. I hope she still uses this. You know who you are! Ahaha...

As you may know, I have 14 cats, all indoors. Actually, my kitties were the inspirations why I have decided to continue with the sewing. One time, I ordered a bow tie for two of my cats online. I was glad when the order arrived. Then I though, "Why not just make bow ties for my cats. It looks so easy to make." I am not going to lie, it is not easy at first. My cats were pretty pleased with their outfits, if I say so myself.

Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Anniversary

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. This is my 6th year in the United States. Technically, my 6th year anniversary was on November 25, but I was working so I did not have time to blog about it. Anyways, I arrived in Michigan on November 25, 2008, my first time to experience a cold weather and see the snow. I cannot forget my feeling of excitement. Everything was new to me that very day. First time I wore a coat, a thick coat, that is. First time to ride a car where I did not have to sit in the back. First time I met Duchess in person. I could only see her on camera when my husband and I were still dating online. I fell in love with her before I did with my husband. She was such a lovely girl. Duchess was my husband's cat and the moment I saw her and touched her fur, I said to myself, "OMG, this is real!" We miss her every single day. Though, we have 14 cats now, my husband and I cannot help but think how nice it would be if Duchess is still around and watching these other cats and how crazy these cats could get.

A few days before the flight to the U.S.

I had tiny skin tags on my face. It was embarrassing. I started having those in college. My grandmother and my mother has it, too. It runs in the family, I guess? Fortunately, it's gone now and that facial treatment did not leave any scars on my face, also, I gained my confidence back.

We got married in January. It was snowing, I think there was a blizzard. I said, "No wedding gown for me nor a dress. I cannot go out in a crazy weather like that." I remember, I was always under the electric blanket because it was too cold. I was crying in the bathroom and wanting to go back to the Philippines. It was freezing to death. I could feel the chill down to my bone marrow. It was that bad. Now, who needs the electric blanket? Ha! It still freezing for me but I can handle it now.

I know I have my first Thanksgiving picture but I cannot find it. I must have saved it somewhere. I am going to post it here once found. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Give thanks not just today but everyday.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Recently, I was having a problem with my phone. Every time I am watching a YouTube videos or a regular video, I could not hear any sounds. It was getting to my nerves when I had to restart the phone for me to able to watch and listen to videos. Whenever I encounter problems like this, my provider is one call away.

T-Mobile is my network provider since 2013. I like TMO. The customer representatives can assist me whenever I needed help with my phone. Two days ago, I called TMO to help with my phone. After trying some troubleshooting, TMO decided to send a replacement to my phone. It was pretty quick. The next day, the phone replacement arrived in the afternoon.

To my dismay, the replacement, too, had a problem. So, TMO and myself tried fixing the problem once again. After a couple attempts to fix it, they sent me another replacement to the replacement, LOL. You can see on the picture that I have two boxes. The second replacement came perfect this time. If my phone is not insurance covered, I don't think I will ever have it replaced.

The phones must be returned within seven days to avoid paying for the entire amount. Also, there is a $5 shipping fee but attached in the box is the return label. I think it is fair enough. This coming Monday, I will have my husband drop the boxes to UPS office. He goes out in the morning while I still sleep. I am also hoping that I don't encounter another issue with my phone, but we'll see. =^. .^=

Next time, I will write a review about the phone. I am still navigating all the features, though I've had it for almost a year. My note 3 surprises me every single time.

An update:

OK. So, I had my phone replaced twice in a month. It was going smooth, I thought, until the replacement phone started acting up again. The screen was turning green and if I make a call, it won't connect but I can receive calls. Very annoying. I ended up calling T-Mobile customer service again. That was in in February 2015. TMO would send another replacement but I said, "Stop sending me a refurbished phone! I want a good working phone! Every time You send a replacement, the phone has different features. I do not want that! I want my "original" phone back! A NEW phone and not a refurbished. And I am not going to pay for the shipping fee. Stop ripping me off, please!"

I never had problems since I got my "New" phone. I went to the Philippines last May and did not encounter any problems. I can say that I am a happy bunny now. =)

Bloody Nipple Discharge - Do Not Take For Granted

I dread going to the doctor. I am not comfortable talking to them and telling them how I am feeling. I always think that they were just enjoying sticking noses because they assume that they know everything. I know, they went to school to specialize in their fields but it is me… I do not want to go to the doctor. I used to self-medicate by taking over-the-counter pills and/or herbal. It was not until I got here in the United States that I started taking prescriptions. It was through my husband’s persuasion. Being in the medical field himself, he wanted to make sure that I stop ignoring the pains I am getting like recurring headaches or migraines. I thought that was only it. I will take all my prescriptions once my headaches start to act up.

One morning of 2010, I noticed something peculiar. There was a stain of blood on my shirt. “What the… where did I get this?” I had to show my husband the blood stain and he himself had no idea of where it came from. “OK. Let it go. Let it go!” I convinced myself that day, that it was nothing. Until, I felt something moist on my shirt again. When I looked down, there was blood; a tiny spot of blood and when I checked where it was coming from… it was scary. The blood was coming out of my breast. “How did it happen? Did I hurt myself last night?” Too many questions were popping through my head. I was embarrassed and scared at the same time that I never wanted to tell my husband, but he must know, right? My husband made an appointment to the doctor that same day. I was so mad! However, I knew I had no choice but to seek a professional advice. I am having a bloody nipple discharge, so I don't have a choice but to see a doctor.

OK. So, I am at the doctor’s. I had to have my mammogram earlier than it was scheduled. I was scheduled to have an ultrasound. The doctor wanted to know if it was something hormonal imbalances or I may be producing too much estrogen but the results came out negative. After all the tests and with no further explanations, the bloody discharge irritates me because it always stains my bra and shirt, so I started using a nursing pad to avoid stains and the feeling of irritation, so to speak. I was seen by several doctors and to only get the same proscription. “THE RESULTS WERE NEGATIVE. WE DID NOT FIND ANYTHING ABNORMAL.” Then the doctor would refer to another doctor.

My husband works for a Doctor of Radiology. The doctor suggested that what I might need is a Ductogram. However, the way the doctor explained in to us – me and my husband – I did not like how the procedure goes. I am a giant chicken when it comes to pain. I crossed-out the idea of having a ductogram. He – the Radiologist – suggested a different doctor and so I made an appointment. After the new doctor pressing my breast here and there, she said “ We need an MRI. I want to know where the discharge is coming from.” I was not pleased at all. I said “NO!” I am the patient and I have the right to refuse. What she did was prescribed me some Vitamin E to take every day. According to her, some of the patients who had the same health issues like mine were taking Vitamin E and the bleeding stopped. So, my choice was to try taking Vitamin E. I would say that Vitamin E. helped. I noticed that after I started taking it for a month my bleeding has stopped. I was so happy because I can stop using the nursing pad. Imagine how inconvenient it was for me. Like any other patients, I got tired of taking Vitamin E every single day along with my other medications. Yes, I stopped taking it. After a couple of days, my bloody nipple discharge came back. I was so confused! If only I continued taking that stupid Vitamin E, maybe I am not bleeding again…

So, years passed. My husband cannot tolerate it anymore. Imagine, I slept with my soft bra on every night. The nursing pad has been a part of my life and our marriage life since 2010, so I was seen by another doctor. She said the same thing. I need an MRI. Phew! I got tired of hearing those words. Until I got a call from MSU Hospital telling that I need to confirm my MRI schedule. Wait a minute. I don’t remember setting up an appointment for an MRI. Can you connect the dot here? Yes, it was my husband who made the appointment. I was boiling. So mad. Furious. Why does he have to do that?! He knew how much I hated that idea of having an MRI. Why he did not ask for my permission? Why did he have to decide for myself? Too many question in my mind, though in the back of my head, I know he was doing it for me. But, I was still mad. OK. I confirmed the appointment.

We went to the hospital. Man, that tube was scary!!! I am claustrophobic. That was the reason why I never liked that MRI. The experience was unpleasant. I was so scared while lying in that tube with my face down and covered with blankets. The noise the machine makes was unbearable. I was tempted to push the call button I was holding that moment but I want this test to be over. Again, the results came out negative. The radiologists cannot find any malignancy on my breast. After a couple months, the last doctor who wanted me to have an MRI wanted me to have another MRI? Are you kidding me! No way! I decided to stop seeing that doctor. I know, I know…. I am non-compliant. But I am not having another MRI, period!

After that not-so-fun-adventure, I got a call from MSU Hospital again. It was a surprised because I intended not to see any doctors anymore. I have decided to be in this “condition” for the rest of my life. If I am sick, let it be done. To make a story short, I was seen by another doctor. I was not expecting that it is a male doctor. It’s my preference to be seen by a female doctors only. Anyways, it’s already there so there’s nothing I can do anymore, I guess. I am a non-compliant but I know how to handle things professionally. So, I stayed and waited for the male doctor. To be honest, after meeting him and hearing him explaining what my condition was like, I started liking him as my doctor. He was so pleasant, gentleman and direct, which I admire for any person.

Dr. Bumpers, - my new doctor – did not ask for another test. He only asked for my old records and test results. After he examined my affected area, he explained to my husband that he is going to perform an operation. No ductogram was recommended but a major duct excision. He asked if I plan to breastfeed in the future. I don’t have any plans. Then after explaining the procedures to us, from pre-op to admission to the operation and the-what-to-expect, I filed for a leave-of-absence from work. It was stressful to me thinking that I am going to have a surgery in a couple of weeks. I cannot take any blood thinning medication. After work, I would take an Ibuprofen if I feel any muscle pain. By the way, I am a CNA by profession so I do a lot of running and lifting and pushing.

Day of my surgery – I was relaxed. My husband was the one that was anxious. He kept asking me “Are you OK?” I gave him an assurance that I was fine and he had nothing to worry about.

Here’s what I had been through the whole surgical process:

1. On the night prior to my surgery, I was NPO or did not eat nor drink after midnight.

It was hard for someone who loves to eat and having snacks in the middle of the night.

2. My surgery was at 8 AM but we had to leave at 6 AM. I got up at 5, had a shower, I used mild soap. I did not even shampoo my hair. I just decided not to. Removed my earrings, I kept my wedding band – the nurse said it was OK. Did not put any perfume, no deodorant, no make-up. Just the plain Me.

3. Upon arrival at Sparrow Hospital, we went to the admission and checked in, so many other patients were scheduled for surgery that day. I was an out-patient. I do not want to stay in the hospital for even a day.

4. After waiting for less than an hour, my name was called. My husband cannot go with me. He had to stay in the waiting area.

5. 1^st nurse interviewed me for ID and what was my preparation prior to the surgery, checked my vital signs, explained what I need to expect and did a drug test. Then she escorted me to my bed and gave me a hospital gown and red gripper socks and a couple bags for my personal belongings.

6. 2^nd nurse came in. Placed a warm blanket onto my left arm where she was going to put the IV on (God, I hate being poked!). She also put a leg warmer which was attached to a machine. It was to prevent my legs from edema or blood clots. Another orientation, she asked me my ID and why I was there then asked me to write the letter “S” on my affected part. She put an IV on my left hand. Unknowingly, I swore when I felt the needle was inserted to my vein. Man, that hurts

7. 3^rd person who came in was a female doctor. Another orientation and questionings. Making sure that I know what is going on and why I was there for. She explains her role to my surgery, checked if everything was done properly.

8. 4^th person was the anesthesiologist. He explained what he was going to do and how I would not feel anything. I would fall in a deep sleep and I would not remember anything.

9. Then, the last person I talked with before the operation was my surgeon/doctor. He made sure that I do not have worry. That I was in good hands.

10. After all the preparations, the nurses and anesthesiologist pushed my bed to the operating room. I was still relaxed. Not having any anxieties. Talking to one of the nurses was the last thing I can recall. The rest I do not remember anything.

I was woken up by a nurse. I immediately felt something heavy on my breast. I remember the nurse asked if I am feeling any pain or discomfort. They called my husband right after I got back to my senses. The nurse asked me if I want a cup of juice. Oh, yes, please! My husband brought me something to eat… Oh, FOOD!!!! How I missed you!!! I can eat anything when I am hungry.

I couldn’t be happier when the same nurse unhooked my IV, whew! I was groggy but I have decided that it’s time to go home. I cannot stay for another minute at the hospital. The operation lasted for an hour and a half and the anesthesia was still in my system, but when I got home I did not sleep. I was actually up the whole night and the next day. The only problem I had after the surgery was I kept peeing. I was on the toilet every 15 minutes. It was really annoying. While it was happening to me, I have thought of my patients. I now understand why the patients have to go to use the toilet every 5 0r 10 minutes after they came from a hospital. It was a question I have answered myself. The IV was the culprit.

I went back to work after two-weeks. I thought I was fit to work but I felt sore on my breast. It was painful so I was seen by my surgeon yesterday and he wanted me to be off from work for another two weeks then be on light duty. I do not want to but it is for my own good. Right now, I am on-leave and hoping to get better very soon. I feel sore on my breast. As much as I can tolerate the pain, taking pain pills is the last resort for me.

I am blessed that I have a supportive husband and the surgery was over. Though, there are still more procedures to get done. I know that everything is going to be alright. I will update you on how well I am doing and tell more about the operation and pathology results.

Detox Water

I know, I know... This is not new to you. Detox water here, detox water there. From one blog to another, detox...detox... but, I can share my own, can't I? We love to eat, right? I do. I eat whatever is available. No strict diet for me. Gluton? No. I just love food. My mother raised me and my siblings to love food - good and healthy food, that is. Imagine, mother would serve fish and vegetables everyday except Sundays. That's our treat day. We can enjoy meat, for a change. My bothers and I did not regret that mother raised us having fish and vegetables on the table.

Things are different now. I prepare my own food. If I am lazy for a day, I will order pizza or ask hubby to bring me some burger and fries. I gained excess weight. What do I expect? I stopped running and walking...and I eat a lot...a lot of junkies. I'm out of shape, very!

I know I needed to do something. First, I need to start drinking water. Less soda, more water. Please, don't make me stop my soda intake right away. So, here's what I did. I made my own detox water, teehee... I heard it has a lot of health benefits so I'm in.

I only used orange, lime, cucumber and green apple. No mint. I did not like it the first tume I tried detox water. One thing I can share is I visit my "private room" a lot. I will update you next time.

My CFO stories- Follow up on K1 Visa Application Procedures

Okay, Pals! CFO is a Commission on Filipinos Overseas. I know there are some of you out there who are not aware of this, just like me. I was not aware that there was this CFO or Commission on Filipinos Overseas thing. To tell you the truth, when I first heard of this word, I was like, "What is that?". I thought I was ALL ready to go to the US of A. My fiance (now husband) booked his ticket to go the Philippines and also booked mine to go to America. Imagine, I got my packet from the US embassy in Manila in October. But, before I received that packet, my documents were all in my hands already. The last papers that I was waiting that time was my singleness or CENOMAR. On the 29th of October, I went to National Statistics Office to get my CENOMAR ( I had to wait for one week before NSO released my CENOMAR ). Then on that same day, I got the packet from the US embassy. I have to call the embassy call center for my interview date. It was my fiance (now husband) who called and scheduled my interview date. He chose November 10, it was Monday.

It was not as easy as anyone would have thought. Let me share it to you. Here is what I did when I was still doing what you are doing right now.

So, you had your medical exam at St. Luke's Medical Extension Clinic. After you completed all your medical examinations and SLMEC don't see any problems in regards with your health condition, that very same day, you will know. SLMEC will forward your medical reports to US embassy in Manila. They will show you the CD of your medical reports or medical records before they submit it to the US embassy in Manila. Keep in mind, save all the papers from SLMEC, especially your medical record supplement or the vaccination supplement, I don't remember the name of that document. You are going to use that when you get here in the US

You also completed all the necessary documents that you need for the interview. You are waiting for your packet to arrive. When you have the packet in your hand, talk to your fiance, inform him that you have the packet. I advice that he call the embassy call center, they accepts credit card and it's expensive. As I may recall, I think they charge per minute, I am not sure.

OK, so you have your interview schedule. Relax. Everything is gonna be alright. But, the day before you leave the house for your visa interview, be sure that you have everything. Be sure that you filled up all the papers. There are some US embassy employees that's kinda rude. Be patient. Just keep this in mind. YOU ARE GOING TO LEAVE THEM BEHIND!

Congratulations! You passed the interview. The consul will tell you that you will receive your US visa by DELBROS. Delbros is the authorized courier of the US embassy. They have te instructions on how you are going to pay at Delbros.

Do not book your ticket yet unless you have your US visa with you. Your Philippine passport is in that packet that Delbros is going to deliver. In my case, after I told my fiance (now husband) that I passed the interview. He booked our tickets immediately. He was the one who was so excited when he heard the news, LOL....

When my neighbor overheard that I am going to leave for the US on November 25. My fiance (now husband) chose that date. Mind you, I do not have the visa yet. I was like, OMG! She asked me if I have this CFO sticker. I said, "What is that?!" Then she explained it to me.

November 19, he arrived in the Philippines. He proposed to me at the NAIA... it was like a movie, hahaha... everyone was watching us. He was on his knees, asking me to marry him. Do I have a choice?! LOL...Of course, I said YES!

I was panicky, because my fiance (now husband) was there, we have to leave on the 25th, but I do not have my visa yet and my passport. To be honest, that was a wrong sweet move. but there is nothing we can do, it's already there. So we just waited for the packet. The packet arrived on the 20th, thank God! At last, I could attend the CFO seminar. CFO - Commission on Filipinos Overseas.
All the Filipinos who are going outside the country needs to attend the CFO seminar. It's a one-day seminar only. But, it takes time before you can have your certificate. After the seminar, you will receive your certificate and your badge or sticker. You cannot leave the country without this CFO sticker. They will check your passport if it has the CFO sticker on it. Or else, you will not board the plane.

Here is how you should do to take the CFO seminar:

Call the CFO office - click on the "CFO"link and you will learn everything that you need to know about CFO.

*NOTE: Don't worry clicking the link, it is not something like ads or whatsoever. That is the exact link to the CFO site.

Schedule your seminar and they will tell you what else you will have to bring. Just make sure that you are telling them everything, it is for your own good. Do not forget to mention about your passport if you don't have your passport with you (I am sure your passport is still at St. Luke's after your medical or still at the embassy, whichever way, you must tell the CFO people about your case and it won't be a hassle.)

The seminar is good for one day only and you are good to go.
Bring some money and food. MONEY because you will pay for something, picture I think. (Pardon me for it was almost four years when I had my schedule so I am not sure if they changed or not.) FOOD so you won't get hungry if you happen to wait.
At the end of the seminar they will give you a sticker for your passport and some papers, too. Keep them.

Certified Nurse Aide

Hi, there! Two weeks after I passed my certification test, I started submitting an application forms and in less than a week, I GOT A JOB already!! Yes, I got a job as a nurse aide at Burcham Hills, my dream retirement community.

I felt so blessed for they trusted me eventhough I don't have any background as a CNA yet but my school training. My personality and charm would be my best bet, ahaha... They liked me right away and I am flattered to the max! =)

Yes! Finally!!! I passed my Nurse's Aide Certification test. I was so anxious last night because I failed my first two tests. I was so devastated that time and could not figure out how I would do if I am going to fail for the third and last time. Pero, I passed it!

I went to Lansing Community College for CNA program. I also took my 2 tests at LCC which I failed. My original plan was to take it at Mt. Pleasant Area Technical Center but my husband was like "Why go somewhere else when you can take it at LCC?" I did not want to argue so I did go. But, it doesn't matter to me now. I am now a CERTIFIED NURSE'S AIDE.

Important Documents For K1 Visa Holder

You have accomplished all the necessary documents that you need as a K1 visa applicant, alright. You and your fiance are both very excited when you passed the visa interview at the US embassy in Manila. You will wait for a week or two before you can get your K1 visa together with you Philippine passport. You may be asking, "What? Philippine passport? I thought I have my passport already?". Don't be misled. When you took your medical examinations at St. Luke's Medical Extension Clinic, they forwarded your medical results and your passport to the US embassy in Manila. So, after your visa interview, you will know if you pass the interview or not. If you passed the interview, the consul will tell you and congratulate you. They will give you your passport that very same day if you did not passed the interview. But, don't despair. Be positive. Always tell yourself that you will pass the interview.

HERE ARE THE 2 IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS THE IMMIGRATION WILL ASK YOU.

1. Your K1 Visa. It is attached right in your Philippine passport. Your passport must be valid. If it still has one year validity, that is fine.

2. This one is very important. You have your K1 visa, you have your plane ticket and you have everything else that you thought you might need when you come to the US. But, you missed one thing. CFO sticker. CFO stands for COMMISSION ON FILIPINOS OVERSEAS. You cannot board the plane if you do not have CFO sticker in your passport.

You can get this CFO sticker after you take the CFO seminar. I think the seminar costs Php150. It only takes a day and you can get your certifications and your sticker from CFO. It is a must for all the Filipinos to take CFO seminars.

DOCUMENTS YOU NEED TO BRING TO TAKE THE CFO SEMINAR:

1. Passport - When you receive your visa. You can get your passport inside the plastic, but do not, do not ever open the BROWN ENVELOPE. Only the immigration officials here in the US are the allowed to open that BROWN ENVELOPE. Remember that!

2. 2 x 2 passport size picture (2 copies) - If you still have a spare passport picture when you were applying at the St. Luke's Medical Extension Clinic when you took your medical exams, that is fine. I saved all my passport pictures when I was processing my papers.

3. Singleness or CENOMAR - CFO officials might ask you this, so better to prepare this and take it with you. I told you on my K1 Visa Application Procedures post, prepare 2 copies of your CENOMAR, for future references.

4. Authenticated Birth Certificate - Read number 3

5. Money - for payment.

6. Patience - You might wait and sit there for long hours. My colleagues and I have waited for 7 long hours before we got the certifications and the sticker. But, it's all worth it.

At the airport, they will attached this CFO certificate right at the last page of your passport.

You can take CFO seminar with the absence of your passport, but you will have to go back for the sticker. Don't you think it is a waste of time? To go there without your passport? Who knows if you, too, have to wait long hours like the others? It is time-saving to take the CFO seminar with your passport with you, you will meet new friends and you will hear some other interesting and cute love stories.

After you accomplished these 2 very important documents, you can sit back and relax and wait for your scheduled flight to the USA. Good luck on your journey.

I feel so fortunate that I married the sweetest guy in the world. I am not aware that there's such a thing as Sweetest Day. We do not have that in the Philippines. When I woke up yesterday morning, I went to the bathroom and surprised to see what's in the sink. My favorite Sesame Street character was sitting there, cookie monster! A Madonna CELEBRATION CD, and a greeting card. I knew there was no special day that day. It was not my birthday nor his. It was not our anniversary. Then I opened the card and so happy to read what's written...

Isn't it too sweet of my husband? I don't have anything to give to him yesterday but my devotion and ever faithful love for him.

Hello, friends! I am back!

Yes, dear friends. I am now back. I have been out for a couple of months due to some circumstances. But, now that I am here again, I will update you on what happened into my life while I was gone.

Green Card Application Procedures

My husband and I went to USCIS Application Support Center this morning. He sent all the necessary documents in applying for a green card. If you came here to America under K1 Fiance(e) Visa, this may help you.

Here are the few things that might help you:

1. Authenticated Birth Certificate.

You can get this at National Statistics Office. Click here to know more

2. Medical statement or medical summary from S.L.M.C.E. For reference.

3. G-325A Biographic form. Your new information after you get married will be
listed here. You can download the form with the same site where you downloaded
it when you were applying for your K1 visa, the one you sent to your petitioner
that is in the US.

4. Income Tax Statement of Statement of Support. This is from your petitioner
that you married with.

5. 2 copies of passport size picture. It should be taken in less than a month.

6. A copy of your marriage certificate.

7. Payments for the green card processing.

After completion of all the requirements, you and your husband or wife which was your petitioner can mail all the documents together with the check as payment in the state where your husband or the person you married to is residing.

In less than a week, we received a notice telling me what to bring and to check if they got all my information correct. In less than a week, I got the confirmation date for my biometrics appointment.

When you receive the first letter of notification from USCIS, they will tell you what are the other things that you have to do. If you completed all these steps, you are on your way for your green card. You will be notified if your application is granted.

Max And Padre Stole The Day

February 15 was mom's birthday but we celebrated it on the 14th, Valentine's day. Mom was very happy on that day. We played cards, though I never really play cards I can say that I am always having fun playing cards with my new family. I love them so much.
Max and Padre' are mom's angels. These two fellahs are always happy to see us whenever we come to visit mom and Nannie. But they have their own characters. Max is a very happy dog who will always try his best to attract your attention and never gets tired. Padre' is the reserved one. He will just sit or lie on his blanket and it is Max who will come and disturb his silence. They are so cute and lively. So lovable.

It was Ginger in the picture. My husband's youngest sister. It was our first time to meet in person and just like Nannie, she is a very sweet and happy person. She laughs a lot and full of spirit. It's so fun to be around her.

Valentine's Day With The In-Laws

Mom while opening the gifts that she received from her daughters. She didn't know I was taking her pictures and she was all smiling in this one. It was so nice to see her smiling all the time. she is the most wonderful mother-in-law in the whole universe.

I don't know if it's unusual but for me, it is. My husband and I spent our Valentine's day with his family, my in-laws. It was actually our first valentine's Day together, in person but it was the happiest Valentine's Day ever for the two of us. I have a very loving and wonderful in-laws. Mom (my husband's mother) loves me and treats me as her very own daughter and I am very grateful for her. Nannie, she is such a wonderful sister-in-law. I love them all. Whenever we are together, mom, Nannie, husband and I, the house will be filled with fun and laughter. Must not forget Max and Padre. Two handsome angels in mom's house.

K1 Visa Applicant Procedures

Hello. Like you, I also underwent much confusion while my K1 visa application was still in process. It is not so easy to do such processing if you really do not know where and how to start.

Here is what I did when I was still there in the Philippines and my K1 or fiance(e) visa was still in process. When my fiance (now husband) applied for a petition for me under K1 visa category, I started compiling all the necessary documents that I might need. The petition paper was still not granted but we were confident that the petition would be granted, 100%. I was advised by my fiance to complete all my documents so that when the petition letter arrives, all my documents will be all ready and right in my hand. Of course, those were all with the help of my fiance. To make it more clear, I prefer to type it in full details to make it more easier to understand.

Note: If you are skeptical to compile your documents without your petition being granted, you and your fiance can wait for the notification letter from the USCIS.

This is how I started while the petition was still in USCIS:

I went to National Statistics Office. I asked for a copy of my authenticated birth certificate and my CENOMAR (CErtificate of NO MArriage; singleness). If you go to NSO and ask for your authenticated birth certificate, you do not need to bring anything. Just go to NSO and the security guard will tell you where to go and where to get your form for birth certificate.

You also asked for a form for CENOMAR. You can ask for both forms and get a copy at the same time. I am not sure how much it cost now, but my authenticated birth certificate was Php125.00 and CENOMAR was about Php195.00. You will get your birth certificate on the same day and the CENOMAR will take about 2 weeks to process. NSO will check your status. One more thing: I advise getting 2 copies of each. You will need those spare copies when you get here in the US or anywhere in the world, wherever you may get married.

Go to NBI. If you have your old NBI, local or abroad, just go to NBI and renew it. Mention your destination. If someone tells you that you have to go to Court Of Appeal or anything like that and that you need to get a copy of your criminal records, do not listen! You do not need criminal records if you have not attempt any crime. You know that your name is clean.

I was asked to get my "criminal records" when I went to the new NBI. I was told by that idiot NBI staffer that I could not get my NBI for abroad unless I get my criminal records, with or without hit! Ass**le!

Prepare 2 passport size pictures. If you have 2 spare copies of your pictures from your medical examination, that is alright. You can use that.

Go to google. Type in the word DS-156 form, fill it up with your necessary information. Then save it to your flash drive; if you can print it out that instant, much better.

Google again and type in DS-156K. Same procedure as DS-156.

Then, the last form is DS-157. You can download it if you want, so you would know how the DS-157 goes.

Prepare 2 copies of each DS, you will be asked for that copies when you appear for your visa interview at the US embassy on Roxas Blvd., Malate, Manila.

For DS-157, you will go to either BPI or Banco de Oro to pay for that DS-157 form. The bank will give you a stamped Ds-157 form and a receipt. Keep that receipt for future references. I went to BPI and paid my DS-157 there. If someone tells you to go to MetroBank, do not listen! Go only to BPI or Banco de Oro. The payment for that DS-157 form is Php10,000 ++.

I suggested you Google as an option. You can visit USCIS website but you cannot download all the forms that you will be needing in the processing of your K1 visa application. Just for you to get ready before your Appointment Letter from the embassy of the US to Manila arrives. NVC (National Visa Center) is the one that will send the visa to the embassy here in Manila once the petition was approved by the USCIS.

Now, you can sit down and rest while waiting for that Letter of Appointment from the embassy.

My Visa Interview Story

November 9, 2008. Sunday, 7:00 pm. I could not get to sleep. I was very excited for my visa interview the next day. All my documents were ready. My appointment for my visa interview was Monday of November 10, 2008. I have to be at the US embassy in Manila before 7:00 am. But, I could not sleep that Sunday night. I have to get some sleep so my mind would be fresh and relax, I said that to myself.

November 10, 2008. Monday. I got up at 3 am, didn't get enough sleep. I only had an hour or less than an hour, I think? But, I have to get up early so I can prepare for everything before going to the embassy for interview. I took a shower, I get dressed, then leave at exactly 4 am.

I was renting a small room in Malibay, Pasay. US embassy is in Roxas Blvd. But, I preferred to leave the house that early, so I do not have to rush myself. Aside from the fact that I am not familiar with the location, I was planning to go to Chowking and eat my favorite chao fan.

5:30 am. I reached US embassy. I still have plenty of time. So, I went to Chowking which is opposite US embassy. I got my chao fan to go. I want to be the first person in line. And I was right! I was the first person in line. The only person in line for K1 visa interview. There were so many visa applicants but they are applying for a different visa category. The embassy guard told me that I can come back at 6:30, that I was so early for the interview. I said, it is alright. I can wait. I do not want to stand there in line waiting for my time. It is better to be early than sorry.

6:00 am. The security decided to let us in, K1 visa applicants. I was the first in line, haha! I made it! There was another line before we can get inside the embassy. But, it did not take long.
The security were checking our bags.

Cellphones are not allowed inside the embassy. So, if you are going to the embassy for an interview, DO NOT EVER try to bring your cellphone with you, unless you prefer to go back home and wait for another interview date. They will not let you in once you have your cellphone.

9:00 am. I was interviewed. I was a little nervous because I do not know what would be the out come. The consul asked me a couple of questions and I answered it politely. Then, he welcomed me to the United States of America. Yes! My visa was approved! I was floating with happiness. And when my fiance learned that I passed the interview, he booked a ticket for the Philippines.

After that interview, I went home and go back to bed then sleep. Hehe... At last, I can sleep soundly. Mission accomplished!
