Thanks to Groupon , I had the opportunity to buy and try out a day's course for Sailing. Despite the heavy rains for the past few days, on the day we had to sail, the weather was perfect. Hot and shiny... but no wind to begin with.

Weekend away in Kuantan

1 Malaysia holidays should be celebrated like this. Different race, culture and nationality going somewhere and having some fun. That's exactly what we did. Well with a little purpose in it.

The weekend was planned to head to Teluk Cempedak, Kuantan to participate for Ache Brasil Capoeira's 3rd Batizado (graduation). It was at the beach the whole time. Very hot, very windy and very fun trip all in all. With Malaysians off all races, malay, chinese, indian to other nationalities like Brasil, Africa, France and Canada. Having a traditional outfit bbq party, to driving to Cherating to waking up the french boys for a day of fun :) Here are some pictures to share.

My review on this trip is simple

Teluk Chempedak, Kuantan is fun filled with local cultures and families around. It is more packed with people and there are night shoppings and cheap food. But if you are planning for a sun tan in your bikini and some quiet time, i would not recommend this to you.

Cherating, Kuantan is a more relaxing place with lesser crowd on the beach and more foreigners. The water is clean and is plan tranquility. Food is more expensive though and not as much culture to experience :)

Travel bug

I know I've always been into travelling.. even when i was broke. I recalled a few years ago someone told me it is because my generation of people were born during some alignment of the moon or some planets that people born during the 1980s were during the time of Mercury or something (the bullshit i can't remember) and were all into travelling. So blame it on the galaxy alignment...

I wonder if i should change this boring blog of my life to the different travel journey's I've taken. I already share my travels but i was thinking of writing all the beautiful things i see, experience and all that. Perhaps i'll give it a try.

Note: I'm not the richest girl around and i travel cheap/moderately and most of the time it's to somewhere nearby. We have 4 more months to go till 2012 happens and i have quite a number of places i already have in store...

Let's see.. Last 2 weeks ago was Jakarta & Bandung .. Which i will not blog about since i was 99.9% shopping only and didn't take much pictures.

Coming up next would be Kuantan even though the trip is meant for mainly the Capoeira Batizado for a group there, I'll try to start from there and go around (if time permits me)

After Kuantan in September, the next in schedule would be Janda Baik in Pahang. Some quite resort area filled with nature. This trip would be just 3 girls and it's for catching up and relaxing.. Also because we bought it cheap from Groupon Malaysia.

The weekend right after that, Nadja saw this deal and bought also from GroupOn Malaysia a weekend for me and her to relax and at last visit Cameron Highlands. I foresee loads of pictures for this trip.. my mom even laughed at me for not being to Cameron highlands before and she drives there sometimes just for lunch.. Zzzzzz

In November, we have Phuket early of the month. Did you know my father's family originated from Phuket? We apparently owned some plantation of some sort which my grandpa gave it away to his brother and moved to Malaysia. So this time around i want to head there for the first time and if there is a chance, to also meet my family there which i don't know who they are or seen them but i do have a phone number.. but i don't speak thai. Hmmm... Gonna be tricky. But either ways, will be loving the beach with Nadja, Urko,my aunt and her partner.

I hope Phuket will be as awesome as i expect it to be.

Oh did i mention, there might be a possibility of Jakarta again in October and Ho Chin Minh in Novemeber. Depending how lucky i am with AIrAsia.com or Fireflyz :)

Wish me good luck with my blog post on travelling soon.. Perhaps i will go korek some old pictures to blog about past travels again.. :) hehehhe...

Best work / non work day ever...

As the office goes off to Nike SEA office in Singapore, the contract staffs in Nike Malaysia and the Nike golf people are left in for the next 3 days in our Malaysia office. (well i guess the same to the other offices around SEA).

The boss gave all of us contract staffs a day off on Monday to somewhat compensate for us not getting to go to Singapore. Are you kidding me? Already it's a celebration to be at the office with absolute (almost) tranquility... a day off? Awesome! Also asked to go have lunch and watch a movie / theme park fully claimable to the office.

So i lay down in bed enjoying my happy hours of absolute laziness this morning. At about 9am, my warehouse started calling me asking about this and that for work. I answered and said good night.... they called again.. asking for something else. After awhile, i just got so irritated that i decided to go in to office to "entertain" all the requests. Talk about getting the day off.

But it was still an awesome day so far... Me and Average Joe took an early lunch nearby at Damansara Perdana and decided to do some grocery shopping at Solaris, Mont Kiara. Thanks to an awesome friend, i had Cold Storage shopping vouchers. We ended up buying RM 203.70 and i had to pay RM 3.70. Already a happy women, we drove back to the office to get our work done.

Around 2:30pm, we got bored and decided to go watch a movie..so we did! Now i'm back in the office blogging and working.. Gosh! i wish every workday was like this. I would retire here!!! If i could! :)

Fasting...Year 3

For those who do not know, this is my 3rd year fasting in full. Well almost full... I still swear and think naughty...
This year has been easier for me than last... For the days i do not train capoeira that is.

As i am so used to the environment around me during these fasting month, it really woke me up when i read this post by this mat salleh dudedette which monir told me to read.

Indeed it's true, I get the same comments and remarks by mostly my non Muslim friends. For my muslim friends, they did not find it offending but instead supportive. Some friends even asked me if i was converting to becoming a Muslim (in a judgmental way) and some just laugh and say I will convert soon.

If that is the case, i would have to be a Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist & Dudeism since i in some way participated in certain things & events or ceremony. I celebrate X'mas and attended bible studies and donated to churches, I am vegetarian during the 9th month of the lunar calender and I practice free spirited thinking.. Muahahhaha....

I call myself... 1 MALAYSIAN :) So take it... and GO....

So last weekend i had my Capoeira Graduation week, My masters and Professors from around came to Kuala Lumpur to visit. Pictures of the graduation is on my other blog - www.mycapoeira.blogspot.com.

In every graduation, we would also have a Brazilian Night Celebration where we party how the Brazilians do :P

I totally forgot about our yearly travel plans with the 3M-ers. This year we were to head to Kuching, Sarawak for a shopping and eating session. The ticket was bought a year ago hence forgetting about it is absolutely normal. Hectic at it was.. I still had fun. It was 1st weekend Kuching, 2nd weekend Perhentian and then after Port Dickson for company off site meeting.

Upon arrival at beautiful Kuching, we checked in at the Hilton (thanks for 50% discount) and then went around strolling the city, buying layer cakes of different assortment and then the next morning, shopping at the borders of indonesia! Absolutely fun!

The Meow of the city!

Black & White days

My dearest grandma (dad's mom) left us last Wednesday to be in a better place. It has been a stressful and tiring few weeks every since grandma gotten in a stroke about 2 months ago. She then suffered a second stroke and was too weak to even eat. She held on staying strong for a long time and alas, after so many weeks, she let go. Everyday i keep saying to myself that it was for the better, she isn't suffering anymore. Which is true. After the cremation ceremony, the family headed home to her place to start the "family wars" where gold & money were taken out and distributed based on my grandmother's wishes. As usual, when it comes to money.. everyone changes. Sigh.

While looking through my grandma's closet we found a box filled with old school pictures that brought back a lot of smiles in everyone's faces. Here are some pictures i found funny, cool, exciting, freaky or at least moved me a bit.

Akasha Round 2011

Again i blog about my dear Canadian sisters, Akasha. My first full on French speaking girl friends i met 3 years ago when they had their first debut here in Malaysia.

This time when they came.. we had slightly a little more time to spend with each other than the past. A whole month! And it had to be the month when i was busy with work and activities.But we managed to spend time still.. more than the last time..

This year we had loads of fun at the Sky Trex at Shah Alam with Kevin and Anh Tuan together,, meaning i was surrounded by native French speakers...as usual..

After the trex session we went back to shower and change and had dinner and then off to Sky Bar for drinks. The topic of the whole night was basically the difference in accents and pronunciation and street words between the French people and the Canadian French speaking community. Hence.. I was totally lost! Yet had loads of fun!!

During thier last performance in Malaysia, I was totally lost as non of my friends wanted to go but it was their last night so i dragged Urko along..Which was major fun.. 2 people clubbing and i didn't even need to drive!

Birthday Awesomeness

28 years of my life has passed as I celebrated it with an awesome blast starting 1 week early. As my birthday falls on the 11th, I decided to buy my ticket to Manila to participate in EBC Philippines Batizado so i could experience it and also visit my capoeira family there.

The whole trip was awesome and i would say best self birthday gift I've ever gotten for myself so far.

The trip started with the awesome gang waiting for us outside the arrival hall.. at 6aM. We had awesome Afro Brazillian workshop, Capoeira workshops and Rodas... and also OMG the food!! It was soo delicous.. but i think i had a pork overload this trip which caused me to gain 2 KG.

Here is after a scrumptious meal (again) with my Nike Operations Teammates from Manila.

The Brasilian night party, Brasillipinas was a major blast! (As you can see Havaianas provided too many free drinks hence the red face)

We even have a photo booth to fool around with. Basically with 4 days of capoeira but 5 meals a day i gained 2 KGs.

Back in Malaysia, I celebrated my birthday mostly at the office and finishing work around 730PM and heading straight for my birthday dinner which i arranged in Mont Kiara. The team was sweet enough to get me my very own custom made cake written "Selamat Desolee" which meant Wishing you sorry! hahahaha.. Why you may ask.. It's cause i always say Desolee soo much it became my nickname. (Selamat = Bahasa Malaysia, Desolee = French)

My most chinese gift ever from the French group!!! The team got me a nice gold necklace written in chinese stating, "Good Health or Healthy Body" Something like that (got it translated from a friend). This is something i will keep for life :)

The team also made me a booklet of messages from all my close friends on each individual page. I cried happy tears everytime i read them.

Of course, a HUGE birthday card from the team. Ahh i love them soo much! :)

Tony was sweet enough to fold me my very own personalized rose from Hilton tissues :)

And my girls got me a session which i am also very very much looking forward to!! Much love!!

All in all, this is the first birthday after 10 years i think with NO DRAMA at LAST!! The curse is broken!

Green Party 3.0

I know it's been ages since i last updated my blog. And again i apologize...

It's not that i have nothing to share anymore but more like i have too many things and too little time. Anyway, I thought i would share about my latest weekend trip away from the city to Pangkor island.

The capoeira group was hired by the Green Team KL for their 3rd outing for a weekend away party.. This time at the beach on Pangkor Island.

We had to be at KL sentral at 930AM where the bus would pick the passengers up and the capoeira team had our own van.As usual with late arrivals and some issues the bus company was giving us we only started moving at 10:45AM. Moving less than 30 mins later the timing belt of the bus snapped and there we were.. stuck somewhere near batu caves all waiting and people began to get irritated and annoyed with the situation.

And fortunately enough (for the bus and the people there), our van driver was a bus mechanic! So we all had to stop at the roadside while the guy started to fix the engine...

We all waited with still a good mood :) trying to keep happy and no stress.

Chilling at the road side while watching all the cars starting to pile up causing a massive jam.

Some even started a small picture and some just chilled. Some were irritated and started questioning none stop while others took a walk to the nearest mamak for coffee.

The journey only started again at 12:30pm with no air-conditioning in the bus... ALL THE WAY to LUMUT!!! Thank god our van's air conditioning was working.

We managed to arrived the port to catch the last ferry to the island - 5PM!

The team was tired due to the Sauna bus ride...

When arriving the port, it reminded me so much of Port Klang, 10 years ago.

The party started the minute we arrived with food waiting for us (our lunch) and people started drinking already.

The night continued with major cultural shock for us.. well some of us. As being in Malaysia we would not really see the scene that happened as the night continues.

There were girls picking up guys, guys picking up girls... 80% of the place was drunk and dancing and partying non stop. It seemed like everyone was very focused with one mission.. getting laid. The only people few that went there with no motives seemed to be the french team, most of the capoeira people and 1 or 2 people. Everyone else was getting the grove on.

The capoeira performance was awesome with drunk people around clapping and singing and joining in the samba. Laughing non stop and shaking our ass and moving the night away with live brasillian music!

All in all, we all had fun, just condition of the rooms werent as attractive and the food wasn't as tasty. everything else was fun.. just different.

Melbourne - Remaining days

Melbourne 2010 - day 1

It's been 16 years since I last travelled with mom. I remembered the last time I travelled with mom I was 11 and we went to Medan, indonesia with the lions club from Penang. That was the day I hit puberty...on the plane! Scary experience!

This time around thanks to air Asia we managed to get super
cheap fares to Melbourne to visit grandma, aunts and cousins. So mom agreed on randomly purchasing the tickets beginning of this year and here we are now.. On the plane on our way to Melbourne

The 8 hour flight gave us a chance to bond and catch up! Mom even did a numerology reading for me!!

Arriving at midnight, uncle John was very sweet to pick us up and by the time we got home it was already very late. The next morning, I thought a run at the park next to the house would be good. I was wrong! It froze my ass off!!

After, mom got ready and we were off to the city by train with aunt peggy

Singapore 2010

I remembered so clearly last year when I went to Singapore it was for dawn's birthday and we ended up (me, dawn and melati) having a blast staying in a 5 star hotel (cost was around rm 650 a night) and having to attend this red carpet event - chefs with altitude! It was last year that the capoeira group Argola de Ouro had their batizado during that weekend and I was torn between 2 places but ended up sticking to my promise and spend time with the girls instead!

This year I decided to go for a short weekend trip with nadja and coincidentally the batizado again was during that weekend. Thank god nadja trains capoeira also which made it easier for us to move around in the same interest. Oh and since it was ALSO the f1 weekend, all hotels were fully booked and overpriced. We managed to get a SMALL room for rm 500! The room was like staying in tunes hotel!!

Well here is a short brief of our tiring but fun journey....

First thing that I caught my attention at the changi airport was the free telephone charging booth where you can charge your mobile and lock it while taking the keys like a locker! Wish Malaysian airports had these.. Or do they? Have been traveling so much of air Asia I don't recall klia much anymore

In the taxi we would pass the ferris wheel which was where the f1 was going to be held...

Here we are 4 of us squeezing in me and nadja's small room with lack of sleep ( I think each of us had 1-2 hours max of sleep the night before. Hence not being able to take a proper picture..

I hope this video link is properly uploaded.. Lol.. Some capoeira was in our to do list. Wasn't easy with lack of sleep I tell you!

I couldn't resist the temptation to shop!! So I ended up getting a new set of swimsuit, pouch for my iphone4 and awesome havainas flip flops!!

Feeling down...

It's happening again!!! .... I wonder when it will stop.

Again I'm back to feeling down and lost with loads of confusion. Dad think's it's a sign of depression and i need therapy. He thinks i do not know how to be on my own and i always need company around me. He starts asking me to change my friends (make new ones and start hanging out with new ppl), find new ones and start joining charity clubs and social clubs. It's been day 5 feeling like this now but this is not the first time. Mom on the other hand thinks i should just travel for a bit but knows i can't since i just started working in a new company. My next travel will be in October but it won't be the travel where i can relax. I'll be headed to Melbourne with Mom to visit the family for a week. Younes thinks i should find a partner soon else i will go crazy.

I have been thinking about this seriously lately about what everyone told me.. and seriously.. I love the friends that i got today.Why should i want to change? I've found my "click" ... People that i feel comfortable with and am happy with. At the same time, my schedule is already soooo full with my running / Walking, college, capoeira and social life.

What other friends do you need when you have...

The TB gang (Tanjung Bungah) - The penang gang i have working in KL. I can basically share everything with them and whine all i want. They will still take my shit.. :)

International friends that often come to visit.. exp: Kim and Ali :) Kim has visited 5 times now i think

This entry has nothing to do with the tattoo. Wanted to share with everyone after Medan what happened in June...

Basically, I accepted the new job offer in Nike. So now the 3M Juliana Tan is now Nike Juliana Tan. Feels weird since I've been in 3M for 9 years now... well on and off. And i am still taking a leap of faith.. leaving such a big company with a permanent position and going for a 1 year contract job in Nike..

So when i started in Nike, I had to change my flight itinerary for 4 days in Bali to 2 days 1 night.. Which was sad.. but i decided to make the best of it..

Reason for my short trip : Kim gotten me this Bali ticket for my birthday present.. I want to spend time with them as much as possible.

Arriving at Bali, i was greeted by Allison (Kim's gf) and settled down.. etc... Beautiful comfortable hotel.. (with no air conditioning.. ughhh)

The one thing i did not like in Bali was the sellers walking around all the time at the beach when you are sun-tanning but this guy came with something different.. A head rest.. so your hair wont be covered with sand. For RM 10 i bought it.

Here were part of the gang during my short trip there. I never realized that i was the only asian in the gang.. Zzzz those anti social buggers!

Free flow of drinks are really sinful when you haven't drank in 4 months.

Me and my 3M workmates decided to head to Medan, Indonesia this year for our yearly trip and also my farewell...

So the journey began....
Starting with self check in at the lcct airasia kiosk

Reaching Medan was fast and easy. The state was very dusty and everyone just wants to earn money from you in whatever way...

We found a driver that was really friendly and could speak fluent English. The trip took 5 hours.. When we arrived the hotel, the stupid hotel cancelled out reservation and all the hotels on the mainland was fully book.
Thank god the driver managed to get us a hotel on the island at the lake...Which was soooo much better...

The next day we headed around the island..loads of pics were taken..but it's all already on fb now :(

So back at the mainland the next day, we decided to take the longer ride back to Medan. Passing thru berastagi..here are some of the places we stopped by..

Half way, we had to stop for toilet break..but the only place we found was this small "saloon" and the open air toilet bowl...(is china like that also?)

Back to our jouney....

Crazy people..they managed to squeeze in that many people..

Last weekend and the earlier weekend before that has been good.

Been meeting up old friends from everywhere. Some from other countries that came down to visit.. It feels good when you meet them again after awhile. At least you know you are not alone.

I wish i could travel around the world to visit all my friends.. one day...

Turning 27 ....

Last weekend i celebrated my birthday. Again.. i couldn't resist but to do a little celebration (Despite every year i keep telling myself.. NO MORE next year! I should go travelling!!!)

Since i was still stuck with the same job and income... I couldn't afford to travel that far...

So i decided to spend quality time with all my friends in Malaysia.

March 11 - It started from Dinner at Daikanyama at Changkat Bukit Bintang. The owner was Aja's friend and the minute i sat down, he gave me the biggest birthday present i had ever gotten this year.. a freaking HUGE HUGE big bottle of Sake.

After the dinner and load and loads of sake, which we didn't end up finishing, The party at Pinchoa's already started and we had to settle the bill and walk there.

To my surprise, many turned up and the night was awesome. It felt like a weekend... since the whole bar was packed :) on a thursday..

12 March - Woke up with a bad hangover but still went to work. After work, rushed home to pack and meet up the gang at Tahar's place. And then road trip to Penang!!!

With the superbly bad jam, we ended up taking 7 hours to arrive Penang that night..

Sweet Tahar and Kevin offered to drive there.. so 10 of us went...

13 March - I booked KuKong's boat for the day to take us to a private island where it was only us..

And we are off.....

-No pictures during the boat since everyone was asleep-

At the island.. at last!

Steph was already swimming and walking around the beach.. and i was still on the boat (eating bread)

Ian had fun getting Laure, Laura and Audrey surrounding him ! lol

Tahar was still have asleep but tried to swim.. for 20 mins? Then back to ZzZzz land

KuKong decided to do the BBQ on the boat due to the heat! which was extremely delicious btw.. yummy!!!!

While the others swim and play around...

I stayed on the boat drinking beer!! :P

After eating and swimming they decided to find more fun.. so they jumped!!

They stopped when they saw a jelly fish.. but KuKong's helper settled that by catching it.. with his bare hands!!

Then they are off again.. this time from the roof of the boat...

They started drawing thier faces using a special rock i like to call it.

We left the island and went back by 5.30pm. Everybody got ready and headed to the next party in Penang. In the slumps of Penang...

It was a saloon converted to a Pub / KTV lounge.

Aude seems to be an expert in this already.. and it's only 2 weeks since she came to Malaysia.

At Last!! SOMEONE actually gotten me my first birthday cake of the year..

Cny in Penang

First of all, sorry I haven't been blogging for sometime now. Reason? Cuz I got into an accident, undergone surgery and is still in recovery... Hmm enough said ... This post is about my Chinese new year on the beautiful, extremely hot
Island of Penang...

Reunion dinner this year was a lot more peaceful than the other years...reason being the absence of my brother and first aunt. Well the lesser the ppl in my family means the lesser the drama.

We had yummy steamboat- clearsoup and tomyam.

Then I headed to precilla's to meet Hb, pre, mike and loh came and joined in after...

Yup...it was a Texas hold'em night. Fun, exciting and expensive.

Went home after to discover mom had bought herself a new set of home theatre for her Chinese soap dramas. Apparently she exploded the old tv by overusage.

Best thing that happened to me was when mom dragged me to the old folks home to distribute Ang pao's to them..all 296.. I slept with a smile that night

Visited my mom's friend to find out the guy breeds pomenarions.. All 60 over of them... Sooo cute

Ahhh and at last .. Headed to the beach for some sun!!!

Day 1 back to Penang

So I decided since I'd be alone for Xmas in kl, I bought the next flight back to Penang to visit my family and friends.

Ben came to pick me up from the airport with his friend ah hong and we headed for Japanese dinner at a new restaurant in Island Plaza which name I forgot. The food was good except the sashimi which was still frozen when it was served. Service was bad...but I would recommend the unagi with cheese roll.. Yummy!!!

Then met up with the chi muis- shueh ling, jovin, suets and su-sen accompanied with Jymmy and ah kam..oh and my god son... Well he was the king of the night. Jymmy had to fan him when he was sleeping...lol

Wonder what I'll be doing tmrw...till then au voir...

Oh oh...at last I met mom...After my accident till now I didn't get to see her. Happy though we didn't catch up much yet...hopes for more time tmrw..
